  1. That "Super Hero Game" mantra is a cop out. Seriously, I wonder how many Super Hero Comics people that use it have even read. Generally the Heroes do face some challenges. And in TV shows and Movies the Heroes tend to be LESS powerful than the comic books. To avoid the whole boring and invincible thing. We aren't complaining about people being able to lay the smack down on 10 or 12 or even 50 even level hellion minions at once, even solo We are complaining about people being able to smack around multiple spawns of level 54s at once with no support, or even teammates
  2. You want to be able to cap all resistances (70% unehnaced) but PSI for 3 minutes with no crash with one power .. When the most comparable power SOW isn't even close to that is up 2 minutes with a 50% crash and is only 25% SL / 12.5% others ?
  3. I think something like unstoppable would need toned down in power and duration if it had no crash. But considering how powerful it is, there's a lot of room to work with there.
  4. As an example, look at the way the system determines if you hit your target and are hit in return. Your typical softcapped, handful of purples IO build spends the entire mission with only a %5 chance to even be hit. We're not talking about the spiderdude super reflexes guy, we're talking about everybody. At the same time they have a 95% chance to hit everything. In the whole mission. We're not talking about the Eagle Eye sniper guy, we're talking about everybody. That's broken in three ways. First from a game perspective. The system is based on random chance. But there's not a whole lot of Random going on anymore. You are riding one of the systems mechanical rails, all the time. Second, its broken because it washes all the heroes out. Spiderdude isn't any better at dodging attacks than Hulking Brickwall guy. Sniper guy's improbable aiming skills aren't any better than Rubberband Girl's. Third it Trivializes the villains. Even the skilled baddies can't seem to avoid any attacks and can't seem to hit anything. The Council Goons are basically Keystone Fascists. How are they even a threat to Paragon City at all? That's not the only place it happens, but its one we see the most often probably. Especially since you don't even need IOs to get there. Leadership stacks, and stacks at full strength. So its pretty common as long as the team doesn't spread out much.
  5. cant we just nerf regen anyway?
  6. Maybe fix the issues why people wouldn't want their pets upgraded? Then you could make it auto.
  7. I don't think the first part of this statement is actually true. The game works. As in you can play, its not very buggy. The animations are nice. The effects are nice. It looks good for its age. The Teaming mechanics are good. The game can be fun if easy. And so on. But the system? Ehh. Not really. Its definitely broken. A lot of people like it as it is though. So I get the reluctance to change anything. The second part of your statement. That the HC developers are taking a cautious approach, I agree with. And its hard to fault them for it considering everything. Look what happened when they decided to perhaps reign in Rune of Protection. Or try to do something about Rage. Sometimes I wonder if the community is its own worst enemy.
  8. There is a difference between making content that can hammer any build or team and an internally consistent game system. You are discussing the former. COH barely had the latter when it was just SO's with GDN and ED. But even on SOs you can abuse that system with Support of a myriad of types (even just leadership spam, if there's enough of it.) Works both ways. There is a difference between making a Build that can totally smash any normal content, and that build really fitting into the game system. Back on live economics kept the really extreme IO builds in check to an extent. At least for a while. And the more extreme sets like TW were behind a paywall and weren't around all that long anyway.
  9. I'm fully onto the band-aids are useless stage of all this. I think that the Game Mechanics would need to be completely redesigned to actually accommodate all the added Power (Sets, IOs, Incarnates, Side Switching, ATs) that has been added since launch and still provide a balanced, internally consistent system. I don't think that's ever going to happen here. But I think that's a big reason why sequel games usually do not keep the same Game System as the previous incarnation.
  10. That is one of the identified issues. That Power Creep has been almost entirely one sided in players favor. Largely in the form of IOs ("Gear") and Incarnate abilities. While the result of buffing enemies or nerfing players is largely the same. Buffing enemies does tend to be more popular, since people become attached to their characters and builds. However most games do not simply place the correspondingly buffed enemies in Optional Missions hidden away from everyone else while allowing the Buffed Players to run rampant through all content.
  11. You strongly imply RUIN. Regardless of the words used. Which is basically the same thing. You even accused me of wanting to ruin people's characters. Even though I didn't actually support this proposal. Instead I sympathized with the OP's intent and motivations.
  12. So do you advocate buffing enemy groups at higher levels to increase Challenge?
  13. Keep in mind that ROP is crashless. If T9 armors were crashless, none would suck. Some wouldn't be needed depending on the set, but none would suck. Also ROP is closest to Strength of Will in the Willpower Set, Which is generally considered one of the best T9s. Mainly because it has only a "mild" crash (50% END). But ROP also has two advantages over SOW. It can have a higher uptime. And it increases all resistances equally. SOW is a big S/L buff and less for everything else. Less than ROP.
  14. Has anyone ever gone from 1 - 50 just on DFB?
  15. TBH this Whole Difficulty Myriad of threads seem to boil down to- The game is easy (and power creep made it even Easier) - A lot of people are fine with that. (Group 1) A lot are not. (Group 2) Some members of the First Group would like to shut the Second Group up. Maybe they think they are helping them, whatever. Thus they want to toss out some ideas to do so that will never affect them and the first group. Thus the more considerate ones suggest more difficult "options" get added. The less considerate ones tell the 2nd group to self nerf and find other 2nd group peeps to self nerf with them. This is functionally the same thing though, really. Some members of the Second Group think there is still something in COH worth saving from in a semi-challenging gameplay sense, they remember how it has been in the past. Thus they want to toss out ideas like buffing enemy groups, or changing mechanical problems like softcapping or permahasten or whatever. Generally it depends on if they want to change the opposition or player side of the equation to make the game feel more like it used to. I think they generally feel that once Group 1 tries out the new changes they will agree it makes for a healthier game or something. Me personally I would rather NOTHING IS DONE to fix the multiple difficulty and mechanical issues in this game, then to tack on some lame attempt at placation. I feel the mechanical issues are now so pronounced due to power creep, that they need to be addressed for the sake of the system itself. It literally offends my borderline OCD sense of Game Design mechanical symmetry for the players to ride one rail of the system the way they do all the time. I have after all been gaming for about 40 years or so, and thus its ingrained at this point. I also feel the AI of this game is bad. And apparently it has been dumbed down over the course of the game. That bothers me as well. With our current power level, we can handle literally HORDES of baddies, why the hell do the enemy spawns sit and wait there for their turn to get killed? They should aggro much easier. Runners should go get their friends. Why do they stop at elevators now? They didn't always do that before. Speaking of elevators, why are there never spawns camping them? Or entry doors? And so on. But I get it that's not what most people want, Group 1 is the larger group, and it will get even larger as time goes on. Group 2 will tend to vote with their feet, thus making them even smaller. They may return once and a while due to nostalgia. But it is the nature of the computer game industry to try and get us to play new games anyway .. so there is always something else out there. So I feel this fight is over. The Keep the Status Quo, The Moar Easies, The I want to Feel Supers, The Anti-Nerf Brigade, This Game Should feel Casuals, The Munchkins and so on hold the field. And that's okay. I don't want to ruin the game for all those people. I play COH for teams and those people are fun to play with too. So I think there are too many threads on this topic. And sorry Steampunkette, but I don't feel this one was needed either. Although I appreciate what you were trying to do.
  16. Shockwave is probably the best Melee cone IMO I'm with you on the Claws being better on Scrapper, better on Night Widow also TBH You could get a very Stalker-ish feel with a Claws Scrapper though. Just go Claws/Ninjitsu. Full Claws AOE. Stealth Criticals. Fast bounce around movement. Etc, Etc.
  17. Haijinx

    Most AoE

Titan Weapons has a pbaoe and 3x 120 degree cones. 2 that come really early. Not sure how its radius/angle is affected by Tanker changes though.
  18. I watch some Video game that are turned into a sort of Cutscene/important gameplay movie Saves me money for games / I don't own any consoles / my computer isn't the newest / etc. A really good one I watched recently ..
  19. Some advice for that first 1-50 climb, the Kinetic Barrier Temp power from P2W stacks nicely with EA's Type defenses as a nice, cheap boost to get to the softcap when you need it.
  20. Gravity Tanker primary perhaps?
  21. Yep Outside of some crazy fringe autohit stuff, noone is ever going to stack mezzes like that to overwhelm a /SR EA has toggle mezz protection, and its zero issue.
  22. On that thread people were complaining from going from something like 75% (or maybe 66%) uptime on high end builds down to about 50% 50% is pretty good for what is basically is SOW from the Willpower set. (Which can't get to 50%) Not exactly some crushing nerf.
  23. It wasn't actually made to be that anyway. They originally thought 3 minions should provide some challenge to a single hero.
  24. I'm kind of amazed that there are ardent defenders for keeping a pool power untouched that is basically better than T9 Strength Of Will from the Secondary Willpower Armor sets, with (still) potentially a bigger uptime. Woe, what has all this Power Creep Wrought?
