Modern Stalker Powersets - Maybe Build Up isn't required?
Shred Monkey replied to Sif's topic in Stalker
You have to have build-up as a stalker. The ATO proc resets buildup so you can use it more frequently. It doesn't work if you don't take it. -
SANCTUARY server (not Homecoming) Energy Blast ... no more Knockback...
Shred Monkey replied to Herotu's topic in Blaster
Maybe just make it a null the gull on/off thing and leave it at that. I don't like the enhancements method we have now. Attacks will always have something else I would rather slot in it. -
I will take it sometimes while leveling up. I don't use it to drop out of combat. I use it as a control power. Especially, when solo, if you placate something and then change targets to hit something else, that placated target just sits out of combat until the placate wears off, or it gets hit. It basically works like a single target sleep. For endgame and teaming, this is pretty useless (also like sleep).

General pet customization would really be a great update. I struggle playing MM's (ok, for several reasons, but one of them is...) because I hate the Oni's costume and would rather have another ninja, even if he breathes fire, ...and I don't want lions running in my wolf pack, ...and I would rather my demons and robots be colored to match my costume rather then try to match my costume to them... etc.
-
The issue with fire, is really just Blaze. It's way above the normal DPA of other attacks.... and since fire has a snipe, this set gets turned into a total damage GOD when you pull those 2 powers and combine them with attacks from other sets. However, if you're looking at building an attack chain with powers only from fire, it's you get left filling gaps with tier 1 or 2 powers, whereas sets like Ice and Beam Rifle have better options for filling the gaps between their Top ST hitter and their Snipe.

I've long thought that the RNG in this game was less random then other RNGs and seems very streaky. Obviously this can be explained by how the human brain is biased toward seeing patterns, but ... well ...my brain is seeing a pattern.

So how tall do you guys make your characters?
Shred Monkey replied to Beef Ninja's topic in General Discussion
I agree with the start of the OP. If you think you're going to be tall at 6' or 6'2" you'll find yourself dwarfed by 8ft tall council members and 10ft tall Freakshow. So I just go with small toons (and yes, they're all monkeys). Plus small toons do much much faster travel animations. Anything else feels so slow to me. -
Any reason at all to make a Praetorian?
Shred Monkey replied to Mithradates's topic in General Discussion
Gold side has better content if you read the missions. If you don't read and just look to complete missions and fight stuff, it's about the same. A few unique missions, but you are likely to miss them if you don't try to find them. And then there's Bobcat. I hate her character so much. Every mission she gives should give an alternate option to beat her senseless. If they're going to force us to team up with someone like that, they need to include a "what's in it for me" scenario because her personal motives make me want to vomit. -

I have some files that just keep getting transferred from work computer to work computer over the years. I'm doing an upgrade again today to a new work pc, and I was going through some of them.... and I actually found all my old videos of the original Shred Monkey soloing AVs from August and September of 2008. Here's a screenshot of the old Tyrant fight at the end of MJ's arc back when you saved Statesman instead of Posi. (You know... I'm kind of glad I didn't find this 3 or 4 years ago. I might not have taken it very well.)

Incarnate squishies, do you autofire Clarion or Hasten?
Shred Monkey replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
I auto-fire hasten. I bind clarion to may "follow" and my "target next" keys. I also have clarion in a convenient spot on the tray to click it directly. My logic is, hasten I want up always... clarion can drop with no negative effects. Since I can click it while under control effects, its ok if it lags for a bit. -
space and time manipulation +stealth
Shred Monkey replied to Shred Monkey's topic in General Discussion
Combat Teleport can hold a Guassian's proc... but with the low recharge, there's probably a better spot in youur bulid for this proc. However, the +perception unique is a nice-to-have as it helps versus enemies who use blind, such as arachnos. That's not a very common debuff, but it is very annoying. -
Travel times are embarrassingly short
Shred Monkey replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I even took the time to really learn how to build a good base teleport room of my own now so that I can port to it from anywhere and have easy access to everything cosmic transport had. It's something I always could have done, but never bothered to before. Now that I know how, I'm glad I did it. It's a fun new element to this game. -
Stalkers suck precisely at level 24
Shred Monkey replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
I totally agree. There was always a big sticking point for me when I'm level 18 or 19 and I haven't invested in any enhancements yet because I just ran DFB a bunch of times. and basically didn't need enhancements. I don't want to invest in level 20 IOs or DOs because they'll get replaced in like an hour of playtime when I hit level 22.... but that hour feels like days. I have to fight +0s in small groups, and I have to run away and/or rest frequently. Now I have +3 SOs through to level 22 and it goes much much smoother. At 22 I pretty much always do a respec and load myself out with level 25 IOs from my stockpile. But if I didn't have those available for free, I'd just keep going with SOs. -
So to overcome his heal you have to do an additional 235 DPS above the damage you deal to overcome his regen. And that's through some significant resists.... and he's +3 level. Just rough estimating that's probably around 1000 DPS on a pylon test if you're smashing or energy damage.

Travel times are embarrassingly short
Shred Monkey replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
When CoH came out, the big dog in the MMORPG genre was Everquest.... to go from one end of the world to the other in EQ could take 2 hours without help. Much of that time was waiting for a boat, then sitting on that boat. I was happy to play a game with train stations in almost every zone. -
The Mandalorian (Spoilers)
Shred Monkey replied to Techwright's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
(True Story) When my family went around the table at Christmas talking about what we were thankful for this year. I considered saying how Covid19 hadn't affected any of us directly with our health or financially. Or perhaps I could say something related to growing closer to my family during quarantine. But ultimately, what I was most thankful for in 2020 was the Season 2 Finale of The Mandalorian. -
And what if I wanted to skip the fighting pool...
Shred Monkey replied to Aeroprism's topic in Scrapper
Where I see it as really useful is if you're running soft cap defense but don't have any defense debuff resistance. You can click shadowmeld before a fight and then you have 15 seconds to kill the enemies who apply the defense debuffs... after they're gone you no longer need shadowmeld's buff and you just punch whoever's nearest. -
What makes him impossible isn't his resists it's the heal (w/resists). I can beat his regen/resists but upon hitting 25% health he heals back to about 50... and the cooldown is to short to finish him between heals. It creates a stalemate. As I recall, there's a giant war walker in one of the new arcs that appears to have the exact same stats and powers. That mission gives you help from Marauder, but it'd be easy to pull the target away to get him solo.

The Mandalorian (Spoilers)
Shred Monkey replied to Techwright's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
If you watch the making of series or nearly anything where Dave Filoni is talking, it's clear this guy is a genius. There's a section where he's talking to the other directors about how the most important moment in the prequal trilogy is when Darth Maul kills Qui-Gon, because Qui-Gon would have been Anikin's father figure... and how only in his absence was Palpatine was able to manipulate him into becoming Darth Vader. The other directors listening to him just sit there in silent awe. It makes the first 3 movies so much better if you think about it that way (yeah.. the acting is still horrible, nothing can fix that). The Clone Wars went a long way into fixing the original Trilogy, and it looks like he's going to either fix the final trilogy with the Mandalorian, or just make them irrelevant, altogether. I think our Star Wars is in good hands with these two. -
Yeah.. but... I know beggars can't be choosers... but.. Ice Blast, please?

Check out Lt. Sefu Tendaji from IIRC Guassian's arc. He's my latest frustration.

OK... quoting myself here because I want to expand on this in more detail. Everyone encounters the same experience more or less. The difference isn't in their builds, it's in their head. It's in their response to the situation. Some people see themselves not mattering to the team and it bothers them. They need validation, and without that they want this issue fixed. They look outward for someone or something to blame for how they feel. On the other hand, some people aren't bothered by this situation at all. So much so that don't even understand what the problem is, exactly. Why don't you want the free rewards you're getting? This is how life works. I'd say we need both types of people, but that's not true. Like the game, nobody is needed in life's experiences either. The solution... be happy... and share the happiness with others. If everyone on the team provides one snarky comment per mission, then that's a pretty damn great team. Even a regular "LoL" to other's snarky comments is worth a lot. There's no build or AT requirement for this. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the game.

This needs to be qualified. There's a world of difference between soloing Council radio missions at +4x8 versus soloing Longbow, or Vanguard Swords, or IDF when they're heavy with Awakened spawns, etc. I'm sure there's going to be people who say "oh.. I can do anything on 4x8" but with very few exceptions it's not 100% true. And yes, I'm aware of the tank gods thread. I have 2 tanks myself who do the things they do. I'm telling you from experience, they have enemy groups that dramatically slow them down, There are AVs they can't beat at +4. And they absolutely feel the benefits from adding a teammate or 3. I think this question answers itself. Of course there's imbalance between players who have huge builds and those who don't. The truth is that there's not really any 8 man content in this game that needs 8 players. Therefore, the reason people feel unneeded on an 8 man team is because they aren't needed. Even that "4x8 soloer" feels unneeded when they are not going full speed ahead because, just like everyone else, they aren't needed.
