What would you change or add in a City of Heroes sequel?
DougGraves replied to Disruptor's topic in General Discussion
Change powers in sets so the important choice is using them not, not picking them. CoH was designed with the idea that you did not get all of your powers. You would choose some from your powerset but not get all of them. So they were balanced against each other. An auto RES power is weaker than a toggle RES power to balance out the END cost of the toggle. The problem is that you pick both and need to use both. I would change that so the choice is on use. The auto RES would be much more powerful. A tanker could solo with just the auto RES on. The toggle would be the extra RES for tougher situations like teaming. You would not have a set like Dark that needs to turn on every toggle to be good and have the massive END drain. Instead you would have auto powers that gave you the "default" for your powerset and then you would turn on toggles (or click powers) situationally. -
The mission is easy solo. It is hard with a team of 8. Because you are infiltrating you are aligned with the Skulls in the mission - they are neutral to you. The ones that attack you are hostile to the Skulls outside of the fight room. So if you trigger the fight and then run into the hallway, the Skulls in the hallway help you with the fight.

In KR the Skulls arc has the mission where you infiltrate and can't use your own powers. Everyone knows that MM's keep their pets, so they are an easy mode for the mission. But I just learned the trick that anyone can do that makes it easy to beat the mission. Are there other secret solutions being passed around as tribal knowledge?

Officially Unofficial Weekly Discussion #3: Praetoria
DougGraves replied to SeraphimKensai's topic in General Discussion
I enjoy the tougher and just different enemies groups goldside. I enjoy doing the loyalist missions because getting around is easy. Whereas getting around in the rebel tunnels is a huge pain.- 50 replies

I generally don't care about arcs. Arcs are reading. Missions are the fun. There are some arcs that have enough story to be interesting. Mostly arcs in AE. Most arcs I don't feel like I did anything in the mission to make the story matter. It's basically just a long text broken up by fighting. Even something like Freakalympics which I feel is a fun idea, I don't know or care why I do each mission.

I do radio missions when I am waiting for a team and want something quick to do. Not having to do street sweeps and move zones makes them much faster and more fun than a lot of contact missions.

What I like about TFs is that they are repeatable and people do them even at low levels. So since I play almost exclusively low level content I play the Posi TFs and the Yin TF a lot. 30-60 minutes is a good length of time. Only one or two zones is good. Multiple enemy groups instead of endless council or endless clockwork missions is great. Special fights make the TFs special. The shadow enemies in Posi 1 a great example. Special maps make the TFs special. The dam map in the finale of Posi 2 is a great example.

The moment a character goes to the "It" list.
DougGraves replied to Luminara's topic in General Discussion
I just don't commit to characters. I have a pool of about 12 characters at levels 13, 19, and 23 and about 4 characters at level 29 and 34. When I get on, I pick a lvl 19 character I haven't played in awhile and look for a low level team. If I find I don't choose a character for months I delete them. -
I have found a new character I like. It did not exist when CoH came out. It is a stalker, an AT added during CoV. I did not like stalker back then. I like the stealth but they were too slow. Eventually they got the quick assassin strike and I found I liked them. And they just recently proliferated stone melee to stalkers. An idea that seems dumb thematically. But it turns out I really like it. The animations are fun and the sound and the knockdown are very satisfying. So now I am playing a stone melee stalker. A character that took years and many changes to appear at all. What characters do you like that did not exist until recently or were not enjoyable until recently?

Are Freakshow good annoying or just annoying annoying?
DougGraves replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
Mortificators can revive abominations, so Vahz have a rez but not a self rez. -
END drain. Self healing. Self rez. Self rez with aoe stun. Freakshow are very different to fight than other villain groups. Does that make them an interesting challenge or just annoying? ==== I don't mind the END drain. I like it as a change to how I fight. I have to use blue inspirations. And it makes Elec Defenders really welcome on a team. The self healing I find makes me change how I play. I have to make sure they go down fast and not leave wounded ones to self heal. But the self rezzing I find annoying. I wish the minions self rezzed and not the bosses. Too often on teams most people have moved on and one hero is left getting beaten up by a boss that rezzed and stunned them. Since bosses get defeated last, it is usually just a lone boss self-rezzing and dragging a fight out.

Let's See Them Halloween Costume Pics!
DougGraves replied to Krazie Ivan's topic in General Discussion
My daughter is off at college so no Halloween for us this year. -
While I find AE farming to be dumb, I don't find it any more dumb than playing at levels above above 32 when the game is trivially easy anyway. Especially PI radio teams that only choose Council missions. I don't see removing AE farming making the game any better. The way to make the game better is to remove IOs and the alpha power things level 50's get. But ultimately driving away a huge chunk of the players is just going to make the game go away faster. I'd rather have half of a good game than none of a great game.

But we could proliferate the wheel to other AT's. And the Tier 9 could be totally swapped out.

Devs please explain why you are nerfing Regen?
DougGraves replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I think it's time we talk about how people are keeping the Devs from having their say. It used to be the Devs could just talk openly with us. But then posters began to oppress them and take away their free speech. Now the Devs are barely allowed to speak at all. Free speech for the Devs! -
Freedom of speech is protection from the government arresting you for your speech. It does not give you power over private companies and individuals and require that they let you post whatever you want. It also does not mean that others cannot post what they want in response to you. For some reason people cry "freedom of speech" as a way to complain about others speaking freely. As if freedom of speech is for them personally. They can say what they want and no one else can. You are entitled to state your opinion. And others are entitled to state theirs. Stating your opinion and then complaining when others state theirs does not make you look like a victim, it makes you look entitled and hypocritical.

Only level 9 so far. But I joined a team of 8 and my ninja did not immediately die. I consider this an absolute win.

I just saw the patch notes and I was blown away by all of the new features and improvements. Apparently I need to create a bunch more alts. I still haven't tried sentinels.

Picking AT and sets based on concept only
DougGraves replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
I create characters based on what fits the concept, then abandon them if they have problems. For instance ice and earth control I just can't play at low levels due to clockwork flying off of ice patch and earthquake. So I just avoid them now and go with electric control. I still have the old characters. If possible I just reskin something. I don't like dark armor at low levels, so I use rad armor and just color it black. It looks smoky enough for me to use on dark themed characters. -
The Banished Batgirl Mystery
DougGraves replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Superhero movies can be very expensive for post production. So it is possible it just isn't worth that money to release the movie. -
I liked the first one, so I'll probably check it out.

The Sandman on Netflix
DougGraves replied to ThaOGDreamWeaver's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
I'm skipping this as I don't like Neil Gaiman's stuff. My daughter and I tried Good Omens as Terry Pratchett can be funny , but we both just found it boring and unfunny. And I tried American Gods because it has Ian McShane in it, but just found it aggressively bad and stupid. It's just not the stuff for me. -
I have no particular interest in this movie as D&D is a system and not really a story or even setting. So the idea of a D&D movie means nothing to me. But I am excited for more attempts to make fantasy a viable genre. So I hope it does well.
