Ah, but defense is much easier to build with IOs. Which means that resist sets can stack def on top of their resists while it's much harder for def sets to add resistance, so actually it's the resist sets that need to be nerfed!

I can play City of Heroes blindfolded. With my forehead.
Grouchybeast replied to SmokinIndo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Removing attunement would be a waste of time. On live I slotted up all my builds with level 30-35 set IOs anyway. It makes relatively little difference to the actual enhancement values, because of ED, and you only lose set bonuses for a few extra levels relative to attuned IOs. The main advantages exemplared characters have come from the higher number of slots and the couple of extra powers that they keep. -
Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
All the way through this thread people have been smushing together two fundamentally different arguments: 1. I, personally, find the game too easy and boring and I, personally, want access to a variety of more challenging content. 2. Other people are choosing to play easier content instead of harder content, and I think that is undesirable because of [reason]. Those are very different issues with very different solutions. -
Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It seems a little odd to be asking for a wider implementation of a feature that you don't even use at the moment, that's all. -
I can see that! :-) Can you give some concrete examples of Legendary IOs that you think would meet the criteria of a) being expensive enough that they're exciting to bid for and exciting to have a a drop and b) not over powered? I think the 5% res and 5% def suggestions in the OP possibly set a lot of people against the idea because those are indeed very OP. That was certainly my reaction to them.

Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Do you currently run arcs in Ouro with those settings turned on? Do you find that you get dozens of people wanting to play them with you? I'm generally against spending dev time on something that's only going to be of interest to a tiny minority of players. -
Might be an alignment issue? I had the same problem with the badge for logging off in stores, but when I switched alignment in PD it suddenly awarded. IIRC, I was a Rogue when I had the bugged bar and the badge awarded when I switched to a blueside alignment.

Those HamiOs are going into Time builds, because according to Mids the 33% Speed enhancement will buff the slow effect of Distortion Field. I don't know if that's actually still true in game, or if Mids is wrong and the -speed effect was patched out at the same time as the other HamiO bugs, but people certainly aren't buying them because they like the colours. If what you really want isn't an stronger-than-current IO and all the tedious forum complaining that comes with it, but just something to chase, then create a badge that you can get by saving up X amount of inf and successfully blowing it on the AH on a rarely restocking item. As a happy side effect, it would even become another inf sink.
-
I'm not sure how you pitch an IO so that it's 'powerful enough that demand will make it will cost hundreds of millions on the AH' and at the same time not contribute to power creep. How about we split the difference and have a badge for successfully buying an otherwise-useless item on the AH which will never drop in normal play but will very, very rarely be seeded there by the system for 2 billion inf?

Level 50 recipes mysteriously missing from crafting station
Grouchybeast replied to Heraclea's topic in Bug Reports
You probably have 'hide unowned recipes' selected -- if you notice, there are no Accuracy recipes in the visible list, either. -
I don't think there's any way to have something very rare that makes a perceptible contribution to a build and not have it become an elitist thing. At one point on live people would regularly show up in the market forum very upset that they couldn't get hold of a Gladiator's +Def IO for less than the inf cap or, usually, at all. And that's for 3% defense. They weren't feeling the thrill of the hunt, they were just annoyed that something they felt that they needed to complete their build was locked out of their reach (by evil markeeters, naturally). That went on until the devs introduced the myriad merits, converters etc that levelled out the rarity and thus the prices. I would rather see a non-IO based approach to providing goal-oriented challenges. Like maybe additional accolades, which could be created from a thematic mix of content requirements. (Bonus -- more badges!) Introduce a system for selecting a maximum number of active accolades, if necessary, to avoid them becoming overwhelmingly powerful if the numbers were increased. But, really, anything that avoids going back to the endless complaints about how overpriced some AH item is.

Now that I can't agree with. Facts are definitely the weakest powerset in the forum AT. Facts need to be buffed, and that's a fact.
-
If for whatever reason you want to recreate the live experience of purples and PVP IOs being so expensive that the desirable sets went for hundreds of millions per piece and were sometimes completely unavailable, there's no need to ask the devs to create an entire new IO system. All they'd need to do is some combination of lowering the drop rate, greatly increasing the merit cost/remove them from merit vendors. and excluding them from the Enhancement Converter system. There you are, sense of rarity restored.

Safe Mode Discontinuation Support - Mac OS X
Grouchybeast replied to Jimmy's topic in Help & Support
Power cutomizations are treated exactly like costumes - they will only be saved to your computer in that folder if you use the save-to-file option in the costume creator. So the only reason to worry about saving those folders is if you've saved a costume or power customization that you want to keep for future use but which isn't currently in use on a character. -
Charging for Powerlevelling to level 50
Grouchybeast replied to Queen Nefertiti's topic in General Discussion
That seems like a very weak link to me. By that logic, selling purple IOs on the Auction House is equally a slippery slope towards violating the code of conduct, because someone paid me inf to let them bypass the time it would take to earn a hundred merits. Exchanging in-game currency for in-game items or services is clearly inside the rules. -
Leading the hostage out of the mission
Grouchybeast replied to Display Name's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
There's already a mission in the Lady Grey TF that fails if both the rescued hostages die. Of course, since it just finishes the mission early and lets you move on to the next one with no penalty, that isn't so much a failure as a short-cut... -
Charging for Powerlevelling to level 50
Grouchybeast replied to Queen Nefertiti's topic in General Discussion
Arguing on the forums is the true endgame of all MMOs. -
There are some damage-sharing mechanics already in game, like Mastermind Bodyguard, and Share Pain from Pain Domination. It's basically just adding a self-damage component to the healing powers. It would need some pretty kick-ass secondary effects, though, to make people choose it over healing powers that don't try to kill you.
-
I guess if depends on whether the problem we're trying to solve is 'people want more challenging content because more challenge is fun' or 'people want more challenging content because they want better rewards and that's traditionally the only way to get rewards buffed'.

Paypal is the only way at the moment as far as I know. Homecoming is currently being run on a cost-only basis, so the donations are only usually open for a few hours until they meet the goal for the upcoming month. Basically, you need to be around at the right time to catch them opening donations to get a chance to chip in.

I'm not really seeing an advantage to this scheme over just making self-exemping possible in all zones. It seems to add a large amount of complexity and extra development work for not a great deal of additional functionality. Taking a step back, I'm not sure how much of a demand there would be to justify that amount of work, given how very little street-sweeping you see in game at the moment. People aren't even using the level-appropriate zones we do have. You don't see people in LFG advertising for incarnate teams street-sweeping in Dark Astoria, for example. You see people running +4/x8 papers in PI.

There are achievement badges that keep track of some of these, at least until you cap them out.

I would love to +1 this, just because of how much fun I would have on my fire blaster farming giant spawns of underpowered Perez mobs with their pathetic attack chains. The Hellions would be so confused about what the heck happened to their nice, quiet, underpopulated hazard zone. To be serious, though, I'm not sure how it would be possible to balance something like this to be fair to both low and high-level characters. Even if it were possible to somehow give enemies different powers based on the level of the character they're facing, in a zone which could have a mix of levels from 1-50+, it seems like an immense amount of work. An easier self-exemping system would seem more plausible, as the basic mechanic already exists in Ourobouros.

Devastation: Chance for Hold proc - glitch or intentional
Grouchybeast replied to RikOz's topic in Bug Reports
If you look in the combat log, you'll be able to see things like the Fireball DoT ticking, exactly which attacks hit when, etc, and so you should be able to figure out if the DoT is getting prematurely cancelled. DoT looks like this: 2020-01-10 22:59:16 Readying Fire Ball. 2020-01-10 22:59:16 HIT Bad Penny!
