I recently took acrobatics on my MM while partway through the RWZ arcs. I went from being frequently held by Mesmerists etc to it rarely happening, so I was quite happy with it as a pick.

How do you get missing costume pieces?
Grouchybeast replied to Lord Liberty's topic in General Discussion
Welcome home, Lord Liberty! If you are loading an old costume save file from live then the 'missing' pieces are very probably there, but the game just can't match them up. Make a note of the pieces, use the costume fix, and then go hunting for the missing pieces in the costume creator. If they are vanilla live costume files, they should all be there, including costume pieces that were previously unlockable or paid content. I've found that even though the game says it can't find the costume pieces, they do actually show up on the saved costume selection page. So what I usually do is save the 'fixed' version under a new name and keep re-saving as I'm rebuilding it. Then I use the selection page to flick between the original and the rebuild so I can compare them easily. There is a very big difference between 'they refuse to give us reasons!' and 'they gave me reasons, but I don't like them'. -
I don't remember that at all. Did the event ever run? I couldn't find the badge on my main badger on CityInfoTracker, and it wasn't listed as a missing badge, either.

Knockback Attack! What cool stuff could KB do?
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
+1 The damage buff would need to be tied directly to KB mag suffered by the target in order to make that KB mag desirable, Also, I think that making it a +dam set bonus (and thus a global effect) would just lead to people muling the hypothetical set either in powers they don't often use, or powers with the lowest mag KB. Not what we want, which is epic comic-book knockback. -
Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
But why worry that much about how other people are playing the game? I assume that people pick Council because they've already experienced the content in question: they've tried Council and they've tried Carnies, and as you say, F Carnies. What would be improved about the overall game if Carnie rewards were raised so that people thought 'well, I really hate fighting Carnies, but I guess I'll grit my teeth and do it for the rewards'? -
They drop in regular content after that, sure, but they're only given in a lump as vet rewards for vet levels 1-11. I thought the OP's issue was that they didn't get the thread drops they were expecting for hitting vet levels 16 and 17, which is actually WAI.

Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
For fun? I mean, there are a sizable number of people who try to create builds that can take down a pylon in a fraction of a second less than another build, and that certainly isn't for the in-game rewards. I have to assume that there are not, in fact, a vast number of people in CoX logging on every night thinking, woe, how I yearn to fight Malta and Carnies, but my philosophical commitment to getting the greatest reward for the least amount of effort forces me once more to the salt mines of +4/x8 Council. I have to assume that they're picking Council missions because that's what they actually prefer to do. I don't think enjoying facerolling Council is some kind of moral failing that needs to be corrected, either. It's just how some people want to play. If the rewards were restructured so that other content gave better rewards, then those people who play solely Council papers in PI would instead be playing solely the new highest reward/least effort content. We'd be back exactly where we are now, except that everyone would be complaining that all everyone does is farm DA repeatable missions, or whatever else became the new favourite. I do know that I see all kinds of groups advertised in LFG. Lots of PI papers, sure, but also people running all kinds of lower level missions. There are always, always more people willing to join a group than are willing to start one, and none of those teams seem to have any trouble filling up. -
Incarnate threads only drop between vet levels 1-11.

Consolidated CoH difficulty thread (Includes Poll!)

I think that many people who would like to see increased difficulty options at high level are asking for exactly this -- enough difficulty that support ATs have the chance to make significant contributions towards dealing with it. -
Knockback Attack! What cool stuff could KB do?
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I like these numbers. and while the damage buff to Power Push might seem a little OTT, I kind of like that, too. The whole point of this hypothetical for me is to make KB so amazing that people would start agitating for procs to ADD KB rather than take it away. Put me down as +1 for the Big Yeets. -
The good news isn't really the tank, so much as the defenders and controllers who are likely hanging around nearby. With luck you can scrape some aggro off onto them as you zoom past.

This is an odd combination of suggestions, because you're simultaneously proposing making the game a bit harder and much, much easier. I think implementing all three would come out at 'much easier', while just the last two would be 'hilariously much easier, oh my God, any easier than this and people will be posting about how their cat accidentally soloed the MsLibTF while sleeping on the keyboard'.

I can play City of Heroes blindfolded. With my forehead.
Grouchybeast replied to SmokinIndo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This is, in fact, the beauty of this pioneering new era of City of Heroes in which we live. If a vast, untapped demand for higher difficulty CoX indeed exists, then no doubt someone will set up a server to develop it. No doubt players will flock to it in greater and greater numbers to enjoy the new challenges provided. Maybe it won't be on Homecoming, but surely it will happen. The future is bright! -
I've had that, too. They really hate the lab map elevators. Sometimes going up and down the elevator a few times will shift them, other times more or different bots get stuck. Oddly, most times I've been able to fix it by moving on to the next mobs and give the bots a group order to attack a target, at which point the the missing bots will suddenly unstick and come steaming down the corridor behind me to join in.

I agree with you that we clearly have a wide-spread player consensus on the issue, and that prestige shouldn't be brought back.

Originally it was a mildly pejorative term for paper RPG players who squeezed every last drop of mechanical performance out of their characters technically allowed by the system without consideration for character and roleplaying. In the webcomic Darths and Droids, Pete is a highly skilled min-maxer. In video games, though, players lack the ability to show up to the game with an obscure handbook and talk the GM into letting them play a broken specialization, and take three flaws that don't actually impact play in exchange for the ability to kill things with their minds. So in this context it pretty much just means 'I enjoy making highly effective builds'.

Knockback Attack! What cool stuff could KB do?
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I guess the logical way to do it would be to scale the 'Whoa, did you see how far she punched that dude?' damage to the magnitude of KB that actually makes it through any KB protection the target has. So an AV with purple triangles up would be okay, but with them down might be in trouble depending on how enthusiastically people started slotting KB. Although simultaneously applied KB stacks, right? Because if so two blasters coordinating slotted up Power Push should be able to send an AV flying right through their purple triangles. Also we should add a KB boost effect to Energy Blast's Aim. -
Change body type with different costumes?
Grouchybeast replied to Idiotfool's topic in General Discussion
Whoops, so it does! Somehow I'm surprised by the existence of AP Icon every time I fly past it. -
Knockback Attack! What cool stuff could KB do?
Grouchybeast replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I just had a vision of buffing the damage caused by increasing knockback until it's the preferred power for AE farming, Force Feedback is worth millions, and there are constant demands for a purple KB set. Combats would look amazing. But seriously, I also think it's a great idea. -
Tailoring the character to be flexible sounds like a really good plan. As long as I have a costume and name I like, I'm good to go. The character I just finished levelling to 50 has the backstory of 'hey, a Bots/Time MM looks like it might be fun to play and tanky enough to duo with a blaster', a costume made mostly out of Praetorian clockwork parts (because we started in Praetoria) plus the brain-in-a-jar head, and is called Brains of the Outfit, because I am a simple soul and easily amused.

I like Graves, also for the ending. I like endings that change how I understand the preceding story. But then I like a lot of the new writing that has a bit more character to it than the legacy stuff. I think a lot of it depends on how you approach the game, though. If you're someone who has detailed personalities and backstories for their characters, then the more modern content feels like it's constantly taking away the character's agency and dictating how they feel in a really OOC and jarring way. If, like me, your characters are more of a bunch of stats that you use to play the game, then the modern arcs feel more engaging and interesting precisely because they're telling a more particular story with a more defined protagonist. Writing to please both approaches is hard.

I hadn't rediscovered CoX back when you were working on Project Spelunker before, but that looks brilliant!

Replace or change repair for Bots MM
Grouchybeast replied to TheSpiritFox's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I wonder if it would be possible to make it an AOE heal for the MM's own bots, but single target for other friendlies? That would be cool.
