Anyone willing to weigh in on my possible gaming PC choices?
UltraAlt replied to JnEricsonx's topic in Off-Topic
Amazon has a couple of computers on-sale today as well. -

I think my "shine" and your "shine" are entirely differently. I don't have a character conception currently to match a spines/fire. It would be sacrilege to make the Burning Bush! And I don't think I would want to play the Fiery Porcupine. The first CoH character I made was a Spines/Regen scrapper. Wasn't my first 50 back in the day, but they did end up making it to 50 before the sunset.

Try to post your links again. I would try https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ and see what they have ... Black Friday deals are up on their website. My cyberpowerpc has done fine by me and has a lot of MSI parts. MSI sells their own computers as well - https://us.msi.com/ - also having Black Friday deals up. Whatever you chose, I would make sure that it is Windows 11 compatible to get the longest life-span out of it. -
An Issue of Defense (Force Field suggestion)
UltraAlt replied to Faeriemage's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This is somewhat wrong as far as I understand it. If you don't have Resistance against a certain damage type it doesn't help at all. If you have resistance against something, you always get the resistance. It mitigates the damage. Your resistance can be reduced by -res debuffs. Resistance is mitigation. Stops spike damage most of the time (snipes and nukes aside) Defense is avoiding being hit. Susceptible to spike damage when fails. You will note that most tank armors are resistance versus defense. Tanks are intended to take damage/attacks from multiple foes. Those with defense are generally meant to fight single targets and/or fight from a range. The more targets you fight, the more likely they will hit you. Not being able to be 1 shotted doesn't stop the next attack from going through nor does guarantee you time to heal yourself before the next attack hits you. They don't play the same. If you play a defense-based character like a resistance-based character, it is going to fall. You can play a defender the same way you play a stalker and expect the defender to do the kind of damage that a stalker does with an assassin strike, you are going to be disappointed. Apples and Oranges? Yes. Resistance and defense are "apples and oranges". You can't make an apple pie with oranges. Certain power sets, power picks, and enhancement slotting are prefered by a player-based on what works for their playstyle and what is enjoyable (usually based on their playstyle). What is "better" for one isn't necessarily "better" for others. I don't have any sonic bubblers. My bubblers are all forcefield. Are the thermal "bubbles" better than the sonic? What about the ice "bubbles"? Just because they don't look like bubbles doesn't mean that they aren't defense or resistance applied by one character to another. It seems to work fine for me. Bubblers are great for keeping a team from falling while leveling. Are you an "end-game"-only player? There are alot of sets with redundant powers. Note you are talking about using two powers that both have a chance to make it so that multiple enemies can't attack when they are affected by the power until they can get back on their feet. This can be very powerful in gaining time so that the rest of the team can take out enemies. It's a matter of playstyle and what you enjoy playing ... and even more critical to me - character conception. Sounds like a different power set to me. A "bubbler" powerset based on Absorb barrier would be interesting as an additional powerset, but not as a replacement. Force Field is "classic" City of Heroes powerset. I would not like to see it significantly changed to the extent that you are suggesting because of that. I guess you haven't played on teams with multiple type bubble/shield stacking with characters with group heals. Well performed teaming can greatly act as a force multiplier. A "team" of players playing solo don't take advantage of this and often think that powers are weak. I don't play with you or your teams, so I don't know what you are doing, what your teammates are doing, what power sets you are running with or what archetype mix are in the group. I know that when I'm playing, I am always looking for ways to use my powers to augment the other players even if they are not trying to work as a team. This is to say, even if they aren't bothering teaming with me, I'm trying to team with them. I spend spend probably half or less of my game time running duo's. The other player has focus issues. To try to keep them focused I let them pick who they want to play and then I pick a character that has powers that will augment their powers, grant me some level of survivability, and, hopefully, with a character conception that would make some sense for them to be teaming together. And that's more or less my point. Playstyle and working as a team can surpass what is seen as a flaw by those that aren't willing to change their playstyle and/or work as a team. I don't any of the bubble/shield sets need to be changed. Players just need to learn how to adapt to their differences. Players play styles, teaming experience, and personal preference influence their power picks, how they interact in the game, and how the team's powers interact during combat. There is no reason to tweak powers because players with a certain playstyle play a powerset less than others. We don't need to have an "invasion" of something to prove that something is good. Anything that is going to cause an "invasion" to a power set means that it is OP/flavour-of-the-month. I don't think that there is any reason to do that. How about make a new shield/bubble powerset based on Earth? You get rock encasing that is ablative/absorb versus the other bubble/shield powers? Could you work with that? -

1) Document. Take screenshot(s). 2) Report. Provide your screen shot(s) along with the perpetrator's character name and what server they are on. Not a bad idea to get their global and provide it as well 3) Ignore. So. Get screenshots of of the in-game text/chat window. Menu>Support>Harassment and Conduct Place the character/player on global ignore. Shake and repeat. Every time the player does it, go through the process. The more reports the DEVs get; the more likely they aren't going to be able to harass people any more.

It can't keep up with the "get all Inf" as it is. The market can't keep up with more than around 30 things at one time. I don't complain about it. I'm not complaining about it. I'm not trying to make a big deal out of my marketing. I'm just trying to say that "I" don't think it need to be automated. As someone said something like it before :: Don't make me "automated". You wouldn't like me when I'm "automated" -

Slash Command to Post/Claim Items on the AH
UltraAlt replied to Monsoon's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I do see it as the equivalent of being able to set our character on "attack only minions not more than +1" with a marco to that follows an power execution sequence. I also see DEVs taking time to create macros that would do this to be a waste of their time. That's my call and my opinion. I don't feel it to be weak at all. I didn't feel like I needed to go into any greater detail. The game always had /e or /em, as you say, as a macro for emotes, so I don't see that as any kind of valid counterpoint. So maybe I'll put it another way. I'm an EBIL marketeer. You really don't want to make it easier for me to utilize the market. -

It is automating part of the game. Are you saying that the auction house isn't part of the game? -

I don't think that we need more commands to automate the game. The game is there to be played. Games are there to be played. -

Sell me on "Leaves you drained of endurance" powers
UltraAlt replied to Techwright's topic in General Discussion
You're talking "character conception", Doc! Those are four-letter words to some people! Watch your manners, good sir! There are plenty of players out there that will use self-destruct to avoid getting debt regardless of whether it is in character conception or not. -

Lack of being able to gain end means that you can't do damage for a certain about of time. The gauge working so that you can do huge spike damage but your dps over time is the same. You can't "gain' end for a while, but you can pop blue chiclets all day long to get end back. Because it is a balancing factor in the game mechanics. it's kind of the same way that the game shouldn't have an "I WIN" button*. * Of course the work around for the "I WIN" button is that it just seems that way to you, but the other players are pushing the same button and it looks to them like they win. You know, kind of like the way Propel's SFX use to work. "DId you see me hit him with that Buick?!" "No man. You just threw a desk lamp at him, and it bounced off!" -
Interface (Incarnate Power) vagaries
UltraAlt replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in General Discussion
It's like someone saw Final Fantasy's skill tree.... ... and said, oh, yeah, that will keep the players busy ..... what we really need to do to take up more time (because that was the goal around that time to make players grind and P2W) ... let's throw in random salvage that they can't trade or sell and don't make it related to the path that they are taking in the skill tree ...make it random drops ... I argue that the Incarnate System is the System for gaining Incarnate/god-like buffs (the grind and complication) and not the Incarnate/god-like buffs themselves. Therefore, if you change the Incarnate system to make it less (intentionally complex and grindy) then you are taking away the L337ism of the system. Because that is what the Incarnate system is L337ism. "I have mastered the complexity of the Incarnate system and grinded my way to goal X! Watch me roartm! ... and bow down to my L337iness. Yes. You my kiss my feet now." A method to make die-hard fans of the game that don't want to alt remain active in the game by giving them something to do that appears to extend the length of the game (ake end-game content). It started out as City of Heroes and the Incarnate system makes it City of Gods. I'm playing to be a superhero or adventurer (and rarely a criminal) and not a god incarnate. I'm not going to lie though. I would love to see the City of Jack Kirby Giants expansion. -

Nothing can save the incarnate system. If you do what needs to be done to fix it, it would no longer be the incarnate system. It would be replacing the $%$@#@% that is the incarnate system. -
Sell me on superspeed - why is running around the city the best?
UltraAlt replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
It is okay. Even Speed of Sound is better in my book. I guess superspeed is better than Infiltration. Since I'm a character conception player, I really just use superspeed on my speedster characters. Ironically, since I'm an old-school Flash Family fan, I just haven't made many characters with superspeed since I've been back. I guess using other players like traffic cones and running circles, figure-8s, and what-not around them is fun. Could always mix in a little combat jumping (extra def) or super leap to get some more vertical out of it. We do have the mix-match-combine - turn all the travel powers you want on at one time and get the highest stat of each type of movement. -

Yes. Once you get some negative resistance and slot it up, it isn't so bad, but until you slot up negative resistance they can be a very real threat - as you say "early on". Yeah. Honestly, I loved the Cyst the way that they were. The Bull-in-the-China shop teams would just plow in and .... enemy spawn city! I guess the Kheldian stink on teams isn't as much of an issue as it used to be either. I remember times when a Kheldian had been on a team and left that the team leader would call for disbanding and reforming to get rid of the Kheldian stink on the team.
