Scroll up to the very top. Its City of Heroes :: Homecoming.

City of Heroes was created as a superhero game. City of Villains was stuck on to it the same way that the incarnate system was. And, yeah, it did sell separately, and, yeah, IF (was there really a choice) a super hero wanted to have a base they HAD to by City of Villains. I played in the CoV Beta. Attached an image shot just before the CoV pre-release Beta server was shutdown. There is some fun to be had. Some people started to play simply because they could play villains instead of heroes. I played a limited amount of CoV (I think I had one 50 ... no farming), but was more because I payed for the game. I never enjoyed CoV as much as City of Heroes. ... and that is why I am against some mechanism to try to force me to play as a villain and THAT is the original posters goal ... to force people to play villains so that they can have someone to game with. Current server status Shard - H/V Torchbearer - 119/18 Excelsior- 299/50 Indominable- 71/25 Everlasting- 169/31 Reunion - 99/22 Totals - 757/146 If I'm calculating it correctly that's 19% of the players playing villains. Populations are higher at other times, but I don't think I have seen the villain population be more than 25% (roughly 1/3 the number of heroes playing). I'm not trying to argue about it being part of the game any more than the incarnate system or Praetoria. But I don't see the much activity in Praetoria, but hard to judge though since they are considered heroes or villains depending upon their early game choices. (based on villains alway saying how superior the villain game is, then praetoria created even later should be so much better, but, apparently, villains want to play the CoV content rather than Praetorian villain stuff... so... yeah... people like what they play; they don't play what the don't...)

So silly. It's like PvP. If if you all really want to get together to run content with the small villain population, then pick a server and everyone that wants to be a villain moves their characters there. You do that and you might have heading on a half of the hero population on that server. As it is villains are ranking less than a 1/3 of the number of heroes on any given server and much of them have an even lower ratio than that. Villain side missions aren't "better" - they are simply evil instead of good and, frankly, there are fewer people that want to be evil than good in this game. Not judging you for picking a side. It's just a game. But if the population is low, then go where the population is higher. People have been trying to lure players to the "red" side for a long time ("Come to the dark side, Luke") and that doesn't appear to be working.

Villains aren't a faction. CoH doesn't need game balance between heroes and villains. It is not PVP. The "sides" as you might call them (you're a villain. you should be arrested, you bad person you.) are not struggling against each other to win anything. (when it comes down to it, not even in the little PVP that this game does have). This is a superhero game. People play superheroes. Yeah, you are in the minority since you play a villian. Sometimes I'll play a villain, but it is very rare. I simply don't enjoy being evil as I enjoy playing a good guy. It isn't Blue vs Red. It's Good versus Evil. Hero versus Villain! (That whole red blue thing is a villain plot anyway. It's all so villains can type less characters. Blue and Hero are both 4 characters, so what typing is that saving? Obviously, created by villains and some heroes were conned into using it.) You chose the evil path (break some longbow guys legs because you think that makes you cool). You see the result of that - loneliness and despair. I'm sorry for you since you must play evil and want to force other people to play with you because they don't want to be evil. This is a game of choices. There are plenty to game with on the hero side. Change your ways or get used to playing the way that you have been playing - in which case, you will experience more of the same. I chose to play heroes 99.8% (or so) of the time.

They are run-of-the-mill because they are run-of-the-mill missions. As you say, there are arcs for what you are looking for. The reward for doing the Run-of-the-mill scanner missions is the safeguard mission. The AE is there with access to most of the maps. You can make new villain groups if you like. If you know what you are looking for, you can build it in the AE if you are not seeing it in the rest of the game. The DEVs are players. You are a player. Create.

have it sorted. Thanks Not sure why the window scaling didn't carry over with the rest of the info
-
through the new launcher my window scaling is off on live, I can tell because window are overlapping. I can notice the most on my wrap around trays. I'm trying to remember/find where the window scaling option might be. I may have changed the option for that.

Yes. I miss the active Pocket D's. They are so empty now.

The kind of players that get power-leveled to 50 don't want to experience the journey of becoming a fully powered superhero; they just want the thrill of running around as a fully powered hero that still has to deal with level 50+ content. I personally don't like the incarnate system and endgame content in any game in general. All level 50+ content is endgame. It's stuff stuck on the end of the actual game - hence, "endgame". There is grindy stuff to get 50+. Let the 50+ grind if they want. They seem to want to grind. Leave the rest of us playing the game alone. Most of us would rather not grind. I want to be able to make my character look like from the get go. I usually make multiple costumes by level 10 if not immediately out of character creation. If someone doesn't want to wear a cape until they are whatever level, they are free not to wear a cape until they reach whatever level. That's their choice and more power to them for making a goal for themselves to achieve to give themselves their own sense of accomplishment in the game.

No reason for this kind of unnecessary grind in City of Heroes. The game is supported by the community. I doubt the community is going stop supporting the game. If you need to grind to enjoy the game, feel free to make a couple dozen more characters. Don't force "grinding" on the rest of us. "Grinding" is repetitive and boring. Grinding with drive more people away from a game than it will attract or keep them. Anything that stops a grind in a game is great as far as I'm concerned. if someone wants to speed to the end of the game and past the part of the game that I enjoy, that's great for them. If they burn out because they didn't play the content to level, that's on them.

Sure. We know people had mains. We know people had main servers. But I know that I'm not the only one that gamed on all the servers. Who else traveled all the Shards and played on all the servers before the Sunset? The characters I listed in the individual server post were from a spreadsheet I kept (updated it every month) ... I am not sure if it is the final one or not. I kind of think we ended up with 14 character slots, so I probably made 0-2 more on each server, so this was post dual blades being added and before Going Rogue was released. My character break down per level (I think I had at least 5 50's by the end maybe 6) level Hero-Villain 40+ 2-0 30+ 6-1 25-29 5-0 20-24 6-1 15-19 14-2 10-14 36-20 5-9 19-15 -4 3-2 Totals 132 Characters 91 Heros 41 Villains 1853 combined levels Because I went from using Excel to Open Office or vice versa I have a saved screenshot that I'm pulling the info from, so the following listing is truncated ... leaving off some villain archetypes and Keldians. I had some or at least one of every archetype. 28 Scrapper 14 Controller 16 Defender 15 Tanks 14 Blasters 10 Mastermind 7 Dominator 7 Corruptor 6 Stalker .... I don't really know what triggered me to post all of this today. I've been looking at the posts for a while and hesitating ... finally looked to see if I had the spreadsheet still. Yeah, I know. I'm addicted to the game and addicted to making characters in the game, but, honestly, I alt in any game I play. I like playing all the different options. That being said, THE CITY is special to me. I have loved the superheroes genre (and the comics in general - including manga) for a very long time. My RPG (what today would be called pen-and-pencil or tabletop games) friends and I would dream of being able to create superheroes in a video game. [Yeah, that places my age. No old enough to win Doctor Ditko's contest but up that way.] THE CITY was there with me during great times, and it was there with me in bad times. It really saddened me when it started taking turns that made me cancel my subscription. I didn't cancel it to go F2P. I changed all my character costumes into the same robot, gave them the same bio, deleted all of them, and deleted my account. That's how upset I was about the state of THE CITY at that point ... a year before the Sunset ... almost exactly. I am so glad it its back. A majority of what made me end my stay in THE CITY before the sunset is gone or easily ignored. I'm very glad it is free and that there is no monetization. I would donate, but the donations have been done the times I have checked to donate. I'm very thankful for the players that are able to donate. Sometimes a friend will try to drag me into the content that I don't want to take part in, but, when I get to the point it is really setting me off, I just stop playing that and go play the way that I enjoy playing. And that's the glory of THE CITY. If it turns boring or frustrating, there is always another alt, another team, or something else to do. I guess maybe it was the PUGs that I was running with last night. I love running with PUGs. Different characters flowing in and out. Figuring out how to make the team work with the characters that are on it. Thank you all for being part of THE CITY and making it a great game to play.

I saw a great bio today were someone had basically put in notes to use in creating their bio when they got around to it. I thought that as kind of cool.
-
I read other people's "current-max-length bios". I try to check out bios when I have time on teams and read them regardless of how long they are. Longer the better. To me, it is kind of weak not to write a bio for a City of Heroes character, but we all have or own opinions. I mean you have a bio at all? Do you randomly pick a power with no connection to it, then hit the random costume thing once, and then go into the game? I figure at least some thought went into it even if it was just picking the power that you thought was going to be OP, planned to use a cookie-cutter mids build, and at least hit the randomizer until you saw something that looked cool. "I have the most OP powerset currently used in CoH. I read it on the internet. I am going to be the most powerful character on the game because I am going to use mids to build it. The costume looks cool so I wear it. If you read this, please invite me to your AE fire farm. I want to powerlevel to 50, because playing the game is boring." But I do run into the RESDADDFcv like-named characters, so I know some don't have the time to try to figure out something original for a character name related to their concept ... even though they can edit their name after creation, but I figure some of these have been genericized due Code of Conduct issues. City of Heroes is a character creation game with lots of character creating options. One of those is creating a bio for your character that other players can read in-game. I think the bio is the explanation to others of why you think the character your build it cool, so not having a bio is basically saying to me that you don't really care about the character you created. But again, that's just me. Feel free to play how you want to play the game.
