Your rational and I enjoy your posts even when I don't agree with them. I'm confused by what you mean by this. Can you eleborate? Yes. Power-leveling has different definitions to different people. By "power-leveling to 50", my intent is to say in less words; 1) door sitting in Farms until level 50 or 2) Joining teams that are far above your level for the express intent of leveling far more quickly than you would with a team that is on or around your same level (many times in this case, the character stay back and/or maybe support the others on the teams or they are likely to die frequently). I don't see x2 XP to be power leveling in comparison to what I said in the last paragraph. I generally only use 8 hours of it at the start of a character and then don't recharge it unless I'm running with someone that I'm trying to keep up with level-wise that does use it. I don't see task forces or trials as being power-levelling. I'm by power-leveling, I essentially mean avoiding as much - if not all - lower level content because the player's intent is only to play the game when they are at level 50. The player doesn't want the leveling experience and feels like the game can only be enjoyed at level 50. This does leave one in a state where it requires a large amount of influence to slot and quite probably with the related mindset that they should only have be best and most cookie-cutter enhancements immediately without the need of earning the influence necessary to purchase the desired enhancements. I understand that there is also power-leveling once one becomes 50 because, for some, it then becomes a race for incarnate powers. All these questions were directed at the OP, but thanks for answering. But here we do see why they aren't on the market if they are being hoarded. And that was part of my point in questioning the OP. But now I have to ask of you are hoarding them to keep them away from others or to try to become the omnipotent ruler of the universe? I had no idea that Hamios were that powerful! (I kind of keep thinking they were just a breakfast cereal with a random toy thrown inside the box...) Play the game and you can eventually gain what you are looking for. That is to say patience and game play. Understanding that there is an additional cost for instant gratification. Somethings are going to require grinding because inherently that is why they were put into the game system. City of Heroes was designed as a subscription based game so many design features are focused on time-sinks to keep players engaged in the content. Power-leveling and Farming are inherently counter-productive to that game design goal. The Hamios are there to be gained through Hami raids. There are pretty much multiple hami raids going on on at least 3 of the servers every day and sometime multiple times a day. Influence and/or drops to make enhancements are gained through any content. Crafting is one path, but we know that most take the path of using the Auction House. You can buy what you want there. You can sell what you have there. If it isn't for sale there, it's because other people don't want to sell it. Should the market be seeded with D-Syncs and whatever those new shiny things that you can use to buy hologram costumes with be seeded in the market as well? I think these things should be left as they are as a special reward. I don't mind elite things to keep the elite busy, but people need to understand that is what they are. Something meant to elite to keep the elite players busy (and, in the old days, keeping them paying to play the game).
-
I think the real question is why are there Hamios. Isn't the whole point of them being that they are the reward for being part of Hami raids? Here are some questions. Are you powerleveling characters to 50? How many characters do you power level to 50 per week? Do you expect to be able to get cheap Hamios to fill the slots you want without running Hami raids? Do you expect it to be easy/cheap to get the best enhancements to slot all your level 50 powers instantly simply because you power leveled your character to 50? Do you sell the Hamios that you get as drops from Hamis that you can't/don't want to slot at what you consider to be reasonable prices?

DO and SO's can be upgraded from the enhancement window. (this cost influence each time that you "upgrade" them). You can do this even if they have turned red. Non-IO set IOs don't expire, but their level can't be increased. Set IOs level up with you if they are attuned. If you have some that are slotted that aren't attuned, you can attune them with an enhancement catalyst. Attuned IOs can't be leveled up past 50. You can't unattune an attuned enhancement.

Okay. Your call on your opinion. I see no reason to believe that my statement that bases don't cost influence to build and any sale is all influence profit is incorrect in anyway. This is the first time that I have ever run anyone actively selling a base in the forums. I do think that other players may find this a good option for both selling and buying bases. I know that some base builders already charge other players influence to build or assist in building bases. I see no reason to believe that this isn't a way that other players can start making large sums of influence - especially on the more populated servers. And, yes, there is a reason to question when someone is being a middleman for a base sale and don't get anything out of it. In some way, they are getting something out of it. In this case, the poster is indicating that they didn't get any influence out of the deal. Easter Bunny has 10 accounts that are called Easter Bunny. (See them all by typing @ with Easter) Based on that, there can be no definitive answer if Easter Bunny has more accounts that aren't named Easter Bunny. Is the "time, skill and creativity" different between base building different from marketing? Yes. Obviously. Does it take any "time, skill and creativity" to AFK farm? Obviously, it takes none at all. In my opinion, trading of goods in City of Heroes is the best PVP in the game. I don't care if it's in the auction house, through individual player trading, or selling bases. 500M influence profit is a good deal in one transaction. And I do consider utilizing the method of sale, pricing to sell on the market, and gaining that influence reward are key parts of Ebil Marketing. This very much fits with what I consider to be Ebil Marketing.

Task force missions are generally short enough so that if the leader was the one the "time-out" they would be "time-out" in a mission that was already completed. The team would be in an in between mission state. The next mission wouldn't activate or be pulled until the new character was in leadership. I guess it's a bit of a moot point as the game already has a system built in to handle the leader leaving a team. What happens if a team lead logs out during a task force at this point? Does the lead go to the highest level character or the next charter on the team? Also the new leader can decide to pass the star to whomever they want to on the team.

Yep. so sad.

I take taunt on tanks, but only once I think I'm able to deal with all the damage that will bring down on my character. No reason to start taunting and dying just because taunt can be the next pick. So usually I'll end up getting another defensive power or two once taunt becomes available before picking it. Taunt (with a Perfect Zinger chance for Psi damage, and probably 2 other from the set as able to slot - increasing range and recharge time), damage auras, SFX auras and as many multi-target attacks as possible. With tankers; Dark, Radiation, Electric, Stone, Invincibility, shield defense, super reflexes, willpower, fire. I don't think I have a bio armor or ice tankers at this point. I don't run tanks that often, but most recently dark, super reflexes, and fire. I don't solo tanks. I'll help a small team or a Summer Blockbuster with a tank. I usually try to be on a task force when running a tanker. I only run in leagues during seasonal events or when there is a large group for a Giant Monster fight. The power sets all work differently, so I have play differently with each set. The main thing that stands out to the most is in the Dark armor set not inherently having knockback protection. I didn't remember that from live, but, wow, I really see it on Homecoming. Luckly, there are was to get knockback protection in other ways.

I think what the original intent was to keep those in a taskforce from ruining other players experience because they can't proceed to the next mission because a player is AFK in a mission. (of course, if they aren't the team lead, they can be simply kicked from the team.) I'm not going to lie. I do a bit of marketing. I do "alt tab" to do other stuff while I do marketing. Sometimes while waiting for it to finish rotating out of the locked status during influence retrieval. Sometimes because want to see what is going on in a news story that I'm listening to. Maybe I'm wrong, but the "alt-tabbing" afk while RPGing is different on some levels from disrupting other people's gameplay by holding up a taskforce. Of course, I'm not farming XP when I'm AFK. I'm not even really playing the market while I'm AFK; that mostly goes on when a character isn't even online. (Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm assuming it cost just as much to run the servers if I'm on it all day or if I'm only on it 2 hours a week. At this point, the only issue with me being on and being AKF would be if a server was full and I was keeping other players from playing. I don't think I've ever even played on a Homecoming server when it was showing 3 red dots.) I brought up Farming because that was always a sore point for me and the whole time-out and exploit/"abusing the intent of a system" triggered that linked response. I completely agree with that. The DEVS here at Homecoming do a great service to the community and game that is THE CITY. I quit playing a year before the Sundown and cancelled my subscription because I didn't like the way that the game or the community were heading. I warned a friend that was trying to get me to play on Homecoming that if I didn't like what I saw/found, that I wasn't going to play. I've been here for several years at this point and I can't say that I have seen anything the DEVs have done that is game-breaking for me. No one is going to agree with everything. We are always allowed to have input here. Whether the DEVs read any or all of that input all or any of the time really isn't so much an issue for me. I agree that some people are harsh about it or feel that they have some kind of ownership over a gaming environment that has essentially been given to us for free. Donations are donations. They aren't payment. They are a sign of respect and our love for THE CITY. You and the other DEVs create plenty of things that I enjoy. The stuff I don't enjoy, I don't have to play. Sometimes I might complain about, but most of the time I simply don't deal with whatever it is and play the stuff that I want to play. I've enjoyed all the new power sets and power proliferation. The ability to have different powers that can be used by different archetypes allows me many hours of creativity through character conception and gaming enjoyment by exploring content in different ways with different powers. And I think this is the intent of the original post. Players that do go AFK for long periods of time on a task force to the extent that the team can't move to the next mission until the last player is out of the mission is an issue. However, this only really becomes an issue when the player that is AKF in a mission is the team lead. (because, if they aren't the leader, they can be kicked from the taskforce) I understand Homecoming stance on farming. I don't like "farming", but I'm not trying to argue with the DEVs stance on it. I'm trying not to even bring it up these days. Seriously, the farming of AE missions entirely corrupted and, to a very large extent, took over the AE from the get go. It really disgusts me that a system that was built for players to be created for players to use their creativity and share with others was corrupted into an exploit tool. It really hurts me somewhere deep of my game design and game creation logical functions to the point of an emotional response. The DEVs said that they were going to ban accounts over it, caved, and even hid their posts about staunchly enforcing the rules. That was a long time ago. Like I said, I'm trying not to even bring it up but I was triggered. I don't put farmers on ignore any more. I only put those players that I find to be disruptive on the ignore list in-game. As they say, the ignore list is too short, you just have to accept some things and move on. I've only experienced a player being AFK in an taskforce mission once or twice since I've been back. I'm thinking that one time, the taskforce members voted to give the player 10 minutes to come back before kicking them. I can't even remember what happened the other time. It doesn't happen all that often to me, but I think that this is far more likely to happen on Excelsior than the servers that I usually play on. That is to say, this kind of behavior has always historically occurred on the most populous server. By avoiding playing on the most populous server at the most active times a day, it greatly reduces my chances of running into those kinds of situations. I apologize about going off on the farming tangent once again. It just gets under my skin in the same way that throwing out the Champions RPG rule system to make the online game and keep the signature characters was like throwing the baby out and keeping the dirty bath water. To add insult to injury, they bought out the RPG line and released a new rule set based on the online rules to try to throw a blanket over it. These things happen, but it really makes a sore spot.

I can't argue with that, but it is selling a base and 500mil profit generated from game-time only. No influence. No drops. No salvage. No recipes. No card packs. I think that is dependant upon who is using the term and the intent. Personally, I think that the exchange of influence between players (mainly done through the Auction House) is the best PVP in the game. It isn't like playing the market doesn't take "time, skill and creativity". It just makes the base builder the profiteer, and you a middleman for nothing. Why would they not sell it themselves? Why would you use your "time, skill and creativity" for the post to make nothing and provide them with the method to earn 500M? Perhaps it would look bad for a Community Rep to be the one starting the selling of bases in game? (I don't know, but assuming a negative if they are not doing it themselves). People can have multiple accounts. It seems like some of the big base builders have several. I do believe that this will the start of a trend. I do believe it falls under what I believe to be Ebil Marketing. If players are willing to pay in-game influence for bases, I say go for it. I hope that there is a huge boom in base sales. I hope that whoever bought the bases sells it for 2 or 3 times as much. Agreed. I know that some base builders take influence to build bases for other people's supergroups. This is the first time I have seen one for sale. I'm assuming this time it may be due to the player (Easter Bunny in this case) moving all of their characters from Indomitable due to the decreased server population. Its has never had a decent server population since I've been on Homecoming. (I only made 4 characters and one supergroup over there. Moved one character off of the server already. See nothing in /LFG most of the time. If there is something, it is only end-game stuff. It used to be the PVP server, but that's changed - don't remember if it is Everlasting or Excelsior at this point, but I don't actively PVP I don't keep up with it.) I do see this starting a trend. Building a base and selling it is taking the influence transfer between players to a whole new level. There is nothing on the Auction House that is going to sell for 500M. If it was on Excelsior or Everlasting it would sell for much more. If that is how players want to make their influence, I would much rather see it done that way than by AFK farming in the AE. AFK Farming in the AE takes no "time, skill or creativity".

It seems that you are assuming that the highest level player on the task force will always have the star. Anyone that is on the taskforce is high enough level for that taskforce. Why should it go to the next highest character on the team? Why not to the next character listed on the team? If it is an issue of the active mission level after a leadership change, the group logging out and back in again should reset the current mission to the current team leader (who at that point would be whomever logged back in first after everyone had logged out or the one that didn't log out when everyone else did). ... but, of course, the AFK player wouldn't be logging out ... but they could be kicked, and that would really be the point of changing the leadership in the first place.
-
Honestly, I haven't seen anyone lock up a task force by being AFK for a long time, but I have seen it happen ... and, I think most people will agree, that when it happens it is a real killjoy for the others on the task force whether it is intentional or not. The respectful thing to exit missions when you know you are going to be AFK for any prolonged period of time. Remaining in a mission for a quick bio is one thing, but to stay in a mission with the intention to leech is an entirely different thing. Saying I have to go eat and staying in a mission is unacceptable from my point of view. It is obviously intentionally taking advantage of the rest of the team. I fully understand that some players like and condone that type of behavior. This being said, if the afk player isn't the task force leader, the leader does have the option to kick the player.

I have seen the "wall running" and, unfortunately, I have done it myself a time or two. qwerty face is real.

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to cause an issue. Can you explain the difference between "Exploit" and "abusing the intent of a system"? The intent of the AE (as designed by the DEVs) was NEVER farming. The DEVs took steps to curb farming by putting timers on some of the most farmed maps so they couldn't be played repeatedly.

I can't read your image as it is too small. The Servers go down once a week on Tuesdays around 9AM EST. I think that is the standard "servers are shutting down" message that has been used since the game as first released, but, ,as I said, i can't read what it says on the image because it is too small. If you are excited about being back in THE CITY, then make sure to support it when you can: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/59-finances-donations/

lol. There were plenty of tanks before the Sunset that didn't have taunt in the end-years of Freedom (F2P). I play with people that I gamed with long before there was THE CITY, but I average PUG-ing far more time than I get to game with them. PUG-ing isn't a bad thing. I have no idea what server cluster Legacy may be on. It isn't here at Homecoming. The various servers clusters seem to have their own rules. If a tank doesn't have enough taunt to hold the agro (especially, if they are working with the same team all the time) when they are the same level as their teammates.... then maybe they don't think they need enough taunt to keep the agro. If you want to talk from a position of superiority, then that's on you. I PUG-ed before the Sunset. I don't play the end-game. I'm not here to be elite. I started playing the week before Issue 2 released. I've been PUG'ing with the community the whole time, and I'll be PUG'ing the last day that I adventure in THE CITY.

What does your "macro toolkit" for new characters look like?

I did one time, but it keep trying to bite my fingers, and I had to pay more attention to it than the game play. -

Sounds good. Not something I will probably use, but I'm sure a lot of other players would find it useful. -
No. I like alot of them. Not really. It makes defeating the enemy easier for the entire team. playing a character that doesn't have a debuff, but if they don't have a debuff, they probably have some kind of mez. Too tired to think of one now. Maybe edit later.... All good for me. ------ On another level with this, I often add debuff procs to AoE powers. Annihilation - chance for -resist Achilles' Heel - chance for -resist Pacing of the Turtle - chance for recharge slow Dark Watcher's Despair - chance for recharge slow

Yeah, none of us did. I wasn't expecting to find them. I scrubbed all their bios, changed all the characters to look like Praetorian robots, bought self destruct on all of them (over 150), walked out under the statue of Atlas, blew them up, deleted all my characters, and then cancelled my subscription in protest over the P2W and microtransactions lumped on top of my subscription almost exactly a year before the Sundown. Homecoming isn't a "company". It's a non-profit group that takes donations each month to keep the servers active. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/59-finances-donations/ Welcome home! Glad that you are back. I used to do quite a bit of game play on Virtue ... probably more so than many of the servers but Triumph and Champion but I played on all of them. Wow. You stopped playing early. Supergroup bases started when CoV was released with Issue 6 release in October 27, 2005! The crafting system started in Issue 9 released May 1, 2007! Yes. The Homecoming DEVs have even been releasing their own content. And if you left that early, you must have missed the release of the AE system in issue 14 released April 8, 2009. The AE system allows you (and other players) to create your own missions that any player can play once they published. You can test them until they are ready. Create your own characters and enemy groups! Pick maps from the game for your missions. Set the missions objectives that you want. Make mission objectives unlock other missions objectives to advance your storyline! Set-up multiple missions to form your own mission arcs. Get standard rewards or get special AE related rewards! (The system is abused for farming quite a bit, but there are some really good story-driven arcs created by players.) You have a whole lot to explore. Have fun! The /help channel is still pretty helpful on most of the servers!
