Foe Intangible powers. Where are they useful?
UltraAlt replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
If you don't min-max all your characters and, instead, build the characters based on character conception, there are instances where intangible powers make sense. I don't know if I've used all of them, but concealment>phase shift was very useful on stealthing missions before the sunset. Homecoming has made some changes that have made it less useful. I'm unsure if it still works this way (or really if it ever did) but, like Gravity Control>Dimension Shift, any phased character can fight against other characters that are phased. You can also use intangle powers to take enemies out of action in order to defeat the ones that are not phase shifted. So immobilize a mob and then Dimension shift the area that they are in. The ones caught inside can't fight you and the numbers that come out to fight you will be reduced. If you really want to you could go inside of the dimensional shift to fight the enemies, and jump in and out of the area to attack or to avoid them from attacking you. Finding what is useful in a power set or powertype is often a matter of understanding that bull-in-the-china-shop/hulk-smash isn't the only way to play the game/defeat opponents. -

I think a Corruptor would actually be a good way to go. It would up the damage a bit. I feel like Green Lanterns are more Blastery than they behave as Controllers. Radiation/Force Field - Radiation cuts through defenses/Forcefield for the obvious reasons. and, yeah, how can you not go for Will Power on a Green Lantern?! Flight would be a must have; also for obvious reasons. I agree with Leadership as well. No way ... really ... in City of Heroes to get the ranged big fist attacks, giant scissors, giant hammers, etc.

When the packs came out, I'm sure it was not the intent for players to be able to buy mass numbers of packs and turn around and sell large number of items from those packs on the market. The character items system is built into the email system. It seems to work on some of the same mechanics that the email system does. If what your suggesting is possible and it isn't too complicated to do, sure - why not? From own standpoint, automating the rapid retrieval of card pack items for market sales should be low on the DEVs priority list. The system functions. Would you rather have this than another powers set, cool costume parts, base items, power balancing, or new missions/task forces/etc.?

Does Vanguard have better portal tech than Portal Corp?
UltraAlt replied to biostem's topic in General Discussion
I believe you will find that the portals that are used by Vanguard are built by Portal Corp and installed by Portal Corps employees. Just look at the logo on the underside of the portals. You can even check the serial numbers. The units in Vanguard bases are the highest-grade commercial models, but they are not the most advanced portals that Portal Corps has developed. You aren't going to see Portal Corps employees in Vanguard bases because Portal Corps portals are installed only when Vanguard bases are locked down at the highest security level. Portal Corps uses the portals in Portal Corps to deliver their portals directly into Portal Corps bases. You don't want some heroes or villains flying (running, jumping) through a portal exit point. It could be disastrous. The portals downstairs in the Portal Corps building are built with much higher levels of safeguards because they are experimental models of advanced products that have the potential for malfunctioning. If the heroes that uses those portal just asked questions of the personnel at the front desk or waited to sign the disclaimer forms before rushing t through the security checkpoints (what? everyone gets to take a break at some point in their shift. The sign that his posted clearly states that they will be back in 15 minutes!), it all could be easily explained to them that they are risking their own lives to use the technology. But I guess no one has time to read EULAs any more at any rate. -
I think it is time to vacuum it out or get a new heatsink for your CPU before opening the case up that much for more airflow because your CPU is overheating ... and maybe don't overclock so much!

Or told stories about them. History books aren't always the complete truth. History books are the story of the victor - his story. This goes so far as Napoleon giving out medals that he had won in Egypt. His troops had, in fact, lost. If we go by current copyright laws, the copyrights would have run out on many mythological characters. I think that there is a line that can be drawn between mythological characters and folk characters/heroes. One, for sure, is that folk heroes/characters tend to be more recent history compared to mythological characters that tend to be 1000 or more years running with their notoriety (many of which set at +8,x8(+? - I think there is a game tweak these days to make it even higher than 8 )

Google translated Good day, fellow citizen of Paragon City! This is a new style map designed for a full team of 8 at x8+>4. I only see you on the map, and I guess there was more than one crowd in that room. There are situations where these rooms are empty, but that's rare unless there's an ambush in the way. If you want to see more enemies in the room, please join teams with more members and adjust your notoriety to increase spawn size.

You can't copyright mythological characters. There is no copyright on Thor. Marvel's "Thor" is "The Mighty Thor". "However, unlike most Marvel characters, Thor is a mythological figure, and as such, he's public domain. In order to trademark their version, Marvel has named the character The Mighty Thor.Feb 10, 2020" - https://screenrant.com/the-mighty-thor-legal-name-marvel/#:~:text=However%2C unlike most Marvel characters, the character The Mighty Thor.

You definitely don't want to be a "healer" in PVP. At least, I'm assuming by "healer" you mean an empathy defender. "Healers" are always going to be targeted first in PVP. Your only hope would be to run with a tanker that can successfully taunt the enemy - but, unlike in PVE, there is a hit check for the taunt to work in PVP. And, as others have pointed out, the rules are different in PVP than they are in PVE. you have 1000 slots per server. You don't need to delete a charcter. Also, you can now make Temporal Warriors that start at level 50 and are for PVP only. Yeah, PvP is no fun for villains for sure. Your best bet as a villain is to be a stalker. Run in, assassin strike, and then go hide until you are ready to assassin strike again ...and that doesn't always work. You actually can't be "1 shotted". Any first attack can only take you down to 1 HP. It's the second shot that takes you out. This really is more to prevent dying when jumping off of tall buildings without a parachute (and, no, you can't buy a parachute at the P2W, but you can buy flight powers.) Some roles are better than others in PVP. Mainly, it seems to be tanks and brutes. You can try to snipe at long range as a blaster, but I think there is movement suppression after attacking in PVP. If you are fighting solo against a team, you will always lose. There are 3 levels of PVP zone. I think Bloody Bay is the one that will allow you to do missions to buff your side and debuff the enemies. I agree - see above about the Temporal Warriors. You are correct. City of Heroes rules were not meant for PVP. They have tried balancing PVP since it was first released. I haven't played PVP since before the Sunset, but it was pretty broken the last time I played. The only time that it can be decently fun (playing in a PVP zone versus PVP enemies) is if there are like sized forces on each side. Of course, if you are a Hero, there is plenty of stuff you can do in PVP zones that are PVE. (Null the Gull in the Pocket D can change your alignment at any time) I remember this one time they upped the ability of controllers in PvP for about a week or two. Tankers were so upset. I was playing an Ice Controller slowing them down so much they couldn't get to me and slowly, slowly freezing the life out of them. Can you imagine being a hulk-smash player and you can't get anywhere near your opponent, you are moving super slow, and you are very slowly being drained of your hp? Oh, you know they were hating it so much. And, then, that was that. You couldn't do that to the poor tankers any more... I mean why should a controller successfully be able to use their powers to stop them from using theirs to crumple up a squishy in a couple of hits? Your experience is the same that many of us feel for PVP. You are not wrong from your entry experience to PVP. Face it. In any PVP situation if you get jumped by 4 enemies you are going to be in trouble. Np archetype is going to beat 4 on 1 odds even if they are a tank and the enemies are working together as a co-ordinated team ...and, in most PVP situations, if you run into 4 enemy players, they are bound to be working together and there is a good chance they are in a discord channel with one another. I think that the only thing to do to balance PVP is to give players a list of balanced pre-made characters to choose from to name, costume, and power customize. I don't see this happening. They aren't to make different PVP servers. There are 5 servers and they all have the same build on them; that isn't likely to change. Then there is always the issue of there being more of one side than the other in the PVP zone. I don't think that is going to change either. There is nothing wrong to just play PVE. THE CITY was meant to be played PVE and not PVP. Don't worry about PVP. You explored it. See you don't like it. Decided that you don't want to experience it again. And have let everyone know your feelings about PVP. On Homecoming, I rarely take a character into PVP and, when I have done so, I've never seen an enemy, but I've alway taken in a hero. I have plenty of fun playing and teaming fighting PVE. And that's fine with me.

A New Use Case for Supergroup Prestige
UltraAlt replied to Andreah's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
What if... Supergroups are only listed on the supergroup search if the supergroup was flagged for recruiting (it wouldn't block recruiting as per normal) and had a member online that had the ability to recruit (as this can be turned off by a supergroup leader)? If a supergroup leader goes inactive the game, by default, gives the leadership position to the next character that logs in that is part of that supergroup. ... unless they changed it. I ended up getting more than one supergroup passed to me that way before the Sunset. I really don't think it makes much sense to recruit players to a supergroup if you don't plan on gaming with them. However, unlike /altinvite, I don't think the /sginvite will work if your target is not on-line, but I can't remember. If you can /sginvite someone that isn't online, then it would be helpful to list the sgleader's @globalname (only in the suggested Team-search-like Supergroup window) so that they can be contacted offline by someone that would like an invite to the supergroup. Of course, if this became too much of a hassle, they could toggle the "not recruiting" flag so that their supergroup wouldn't be listed. -
A New Use Case for Supergroup Prestige
UltraAlt replied to Andreah's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
So would it be okay to put a link to the "Group" page on the main Supergroup page? Yeah, this is confusing. It isn't listed by shard and there are: https://fbsa.homecoming.wiki/wiki/Category:Supergroup w/subcatagories and Pages in category "Supergroup" -and- https://fbsa.homecoming.wiki/wiki/Category:Group w/subcatagories and Pages in category "Group" <--- all of these have alphabetical listings of supergroups and they don't overlap. That is to say if supergroup is listed on one of these four it isn't listed on the three others as far as I can tell. The ones listed have different levels of information. Some as far down to information on individual characters. The passcodes for bases are being listed by people on the Base by Server lists. -
Is it a built in delay? or is it a queue issue? is the delay based on the queue? At any rate, if you wait for them all the cards to flip, you won't get that message. Yep. I understand. I was referencing in order to show the reasoning that I had tested opening faster and had the lock-up message -and- then returned to opening them and letting all the cards flipped first and no longer getting the lock-up. Or you can watch the cards flip and use that as the timer to avoid the lock-up.

I have to say that over the last couple of years the Red Caps, 5th Column, and Council have really scratched my itch for enemies to fight. None of them. You got me on that one. I think it's a Nemesis plot. I think that is a Nemesis plot as well. Revert higher level clockwork back to looking like clockwork and not praetorian clockwork/automations. I love how the Clockwork look! I have to say that I think the "Girlfriend from Hell" was a great addition to Hellions. I'm not sure when they were added, but I remember I was shocked when I first ran into one. I love seeing when the groups are fighting with each other in large gang riot situations. (Council versus 5th Column in Atlas. Oh, the memories!) I wish these were announce events so you could see that they are happening so you can go get involved if you want to do so. Mechanically, they seem to operate the same to me. The same kind of tactics will work against them, and they have the same weakness/strengths regardless of side. NOTE: I have only been on the Praetorian side for a short time other than to go to the two Praetorian Co-op Zones: First Ward and Night Ward. I have made no Praetorian characters since my return. Also, I primarily only run newspaper missions with my Rogues on the Villain side in order to get Bank/environment destruction missions.

yes, but I get where the OP is coming from. You do run on all fours with beast run, but you move to a two-legged stance as soon as you stop moving.

I know. having my werewolves change into a coyote form is a bit weird.

A New Use Case for Supergroup Prestige
UltraAlt replied to Andreah's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Okay. So having a list of all super groups and not just the top 100 wouldn't help in-game either. City of Heroes doesn't have a function to "apply for" membership like Planetside 2 does. Supergroups don't (by default) list the @globalname of the SG leader. I'm not even sure any supergroups list the days and time of days that SG members are online on that public message that you see if you talk to the Supergroup Registry Contact (that new players don't even know is there). You can't really argue "people don't look" too much as they don't even have the option "to look". People don't post in the shard forums that often, but they are still there as an option and return players do sometimes post in those forums. If SG's want to use in-game functions to recruit, then they need to use in-game channels to send messages periodically when they are online during a time of day that they usually run teams. What is the use of a Supergroup if you aren't going to team with them? I see no reason to try to get people to join your supergroup (other than some kind of vanity reason) if you aren't going to game with them. I feel that the best time to send such supergroup recruitment message would be when you first log-on and then every 30 minutes until about 30-60 minutes before you would usually log for the night. It would probably be good to list what kind of supergroup you are (Hero, villain, only +50, etc.). I don't think there is any reason not to list in /lfg that you are insertsupergroupnamehere sponsoring/recruiting a team or some such. Public bases are readily available to anyone that wants to use them as a transport hub and @Dacy has some great videos for people that want to build their own bases for storage purposes. If someone is looking for base storage, then joining a large supergroup is definitely not the way to go. I can agree with you on this, except for ... if they can't get an answer in /help they will come to the forums to look for it. I've historically believed that 90% of any player base only comes to the forms to get questions answered. Not like the general discussion kinds, but "I can't get the game to download.", "Why can't I get X to work?", "I'm stuck", etc. I think that there is probably a higher percentage of the CoH player base that engages with the forums than normal, but that still means less than 25% hit the forums before, during, or after their game play sessions. I do think having a Supergroup sub-forum would work better than having the Supergroups in Clubs (which is where they are listed now in the forums). The Clubs function is pretty much a "hidden" feature as far as I'm concerned. Some people have been posting about supergroups in the Shard subforums but I think that they are "hidden" there as well. Another option could be to list supergroups by shard the way that bases are listed. https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Supergroup_Base (see bottom of page) (example) https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Everlasting_Base_List and have this added to https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Supergroup You could contact @Michiyo about that possibility. The bases listing has a good size field at the end for listing specifics which could include the days of the week and time of day that the supergroup is normally active. Vanity reasons I'm not trying to cause problems by saying this, but, often times, I have seen the sole reason for having a large supergroup is for a sense of importance, drama, and/or control by the Supergroup leader or leader(s). I have run into many of these types of supergroups even when they were not large ones. Some of these SG leaders were major control freaks. These kinds of supergroup experiences in City of Heroes (and other MMOs) left me shunning involvement in Clans/groups/supergroups/Outfits/etc. in general. The one supergroup - that I ran into - that wasn't like that before the Sunset was the multi-shard, multi-supergroup Repeat Offenders. The Repeat Offenders supergroup itself was really just a global channel. The Supergroups were the set power-type/archetype supergroups that played at X time on Y day every week. Each supergroup was themed and your characters had to fit that theme to be a part of that Supergroup. It was usually powers/archetype related. It could be all kin/forcefield defenders or any character with one dark and one Ice power set, Sonic powers, etc. They listed in the Supergroup forums on the City of Heroes forums and were good at recruiting through those posts. Currently, you can find them "hidden" in Clubs But, the Pinball never really was able to get rolling it seems, because the SG was "hidden" in Clubs. [ @Alty - I wish you well, and I hope the RO has worked out and is just hidden out there.) The problem with Clubs is obvious. You have to go into Browse to see that Clubs are even part of the forums. It seems that you can't post there unless you are the Club owner ... and I think that is what killed it for RO (in addition to not listing the RO global channel name - if they have one at this point)
