Maybe defining terms would be helpful. What are "the typical story arcs"? Are you just talking about hero arcs or the game in general? I guess that depends on who you are talking to. Are you talking about like all of the Hollows, Striga, Faulline, or Croatoa arcs without out-leveling the contacts? All of the Origin arcs? All of the First Ward and Night Ward Arcs? All of the bank missions? All of the Tip Missions? Or maybe you are just asking about level 50+ missions? There are missions there as well. Don't forget to pick the fruit.

@DoctorDitko any idea about this Linux stuff?

I use some friends bases. I look at other people's base. I have made bases on all the servers, but, so far, not more than 3 bases on the same server. All the bases that I have created have teleporter hubs to all locations. I mostly store enhancements. I really only use salvage tables for holding holiday salvage. I don't put insp tables in bases. I put an trainers, enhancement sellers, insp sellers, tailor, and an empowerment station in the bases I build. My bases are built for role-play and, therefore, themed to the supergroup ... designed and decorated as such. I don't really do base tours, but I provide access to my bases for anyone that asks or doesn't have one to use. I think that is all listed in the thread listed above. Great for the people that want to PVP in their bases. It isn't something that I do No. Please, no. I'm glad base raids are not a thing. There are other base features I would like to see, but I think bases pretty much cover their purpose(feature?) as-is. @Dacy has several threads about base suggestions running. Foe Intangible powers. Where are they useful?
UltraAlt replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Okay, do you have their global? -
oh please, please put this on a COH billboard
UltraAlt replied to voltaicsylph's topic in Art & Multimedia
wow. Player created billboards for the city would be pretty cool. I'd like to see some of those "Earth For Humans!" signs replaced. They are awful xenophobic. The Rikti aren't the only non-humans in THE CITY! There are characters in City of Heroes from all over the place and many of them aren't humans. -
Foe Intangible powers. Where are they useful?
UltraAlt replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Does any character in a story "want" to have their story written by the writer? If they want to exist, they certainly do. But most characters aren't thinking about the metaphysics of their creation other than to usually relate to a religion that an author is utilizing that exists in what some would call reality (I'm not sure what you would call it), a religion that they have created, or a religion that was created by other creators. Some believe in "the creator" and others do not. I - having created the characters in the game - am "The Creator". You certainly didn't create my characters. NCSoft did not create my characters. I'm not sharing my account with anyone, so they aren't co-authored/co-created. As for my Lovecraftian character(s), they certainly don't even believe that I exist. They are too busy trying to summon up Lusca to eat those people in Paragon City that think they are heroes. I guess one would say (other than you, obviously) that to my characters, I am "intangible". -
Foe Intangible powers. Where are they useful?

That is BS and goes against the tradition of comic books. And, I can play any kind of character I want. You show the behavior of the L33T and most probably dwell deep within the end-game where you feel superior to other players. So I'm going to explain. You feel that the system is to be abused and pushed to the limit for nothing more than be as uber as possible. I've gone through my min-maxing phase some .... has it really been that long ... 40 years ago at this point. It was fun to see what I could try to tweak out of a gaming system, but, I have found, that a gaming environment is to be enjoyed by the journey within it. Min-maxing is such a small window that it leave a majority of a game untouched. Spider-man has unluck. Tony Stark has a heart condition. Thor used to be gimp doctor that needed a cane to get around. Doctor Strange was a brilliant doctor that had his hands mangled so that he could no longer perform surgery. Etc. You may be trying to say ... in the original Champions RPG terms, that those characters bought those Dis-Ads so that they could use their points in their powers/ However, Stan Lee added in those character flaws to give humanity to those Silver Age heroes. "With an innovation that changed the comic-book industry, The Fantastic Four #1 initiated a naturalistic style of superheroes with human failings, fears, and inner demons, who squabbled and worried about the likes of rent-money. In contrast to the straitlaced archetypes of superheroes at the time, this ushered in a revolution. With dynamic artwork by Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, and others complementing Lee's colorful, catchy prose, the new style became popular among college students who could identify with the angst and the irreverent nature of the characters such as Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Hulk during a time period of social upheaval and the rise of the counterculture of the 1960s." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Age_of_Comic_Books By making only min-maxed characters you are throwing out a majority of gameplay possibilities. The game is less challenging when you mini-max. You don't have to think about using different tactics base on the enemies or your teammates or probably bother with tactics at all. You can't explore all the different powers and the way that they interact if you are only going to go with the most mini-maxed character. Any game has way more to explore than most players bother with exploring. City of Heroes is a superhero game. It is a about creating and playing superheroes. Now you can play how you like. I'm not trying to stop you from building that mini-maxed clone. Mini-maxing is a cookie-cutter. It only has one shape. If you don't hold to that mini-maxed cookie-cutter shape, then you are gimping your mini-maxing - which you seem to indicate means that you shouldn't be playing the character at all. So, when it comes down to it, focusing only on mini-maxing is being narrow minded. I mean, there is no reason to bother with a costume, a base, or power customization if the true point of the game is only to be playing a mini-maxed character. So why did they even bother putting any of that into the game? It has nothing to do with how you pick powers or slot your character. So much to explore and learn. "Forget that! Get in the robot, and do what robots do!" My characters don't want to be mini-maxed. Do all your characters want to be mini-maxed? Are you mini-maxed? Yes. Think about it. Yes. I must have forced my characters onto my accounts character list. They never wanted to be on my character list. I forcibly put them onto the character list. How horrible of me... oh, wait ... you did the same to every character that is on your character list in any game you have ever played. Interesting. Of course not! You are apparently the supreme ruler. What you says goes. How foolish of me to make you feel defensive. -
Being a character conception player, if I pick Storm Summoning, I pair it with cold, electricity, or water. That is to say, Winter Storms, Hurricanes/Typhoons, and Monsoons. That isn't to say that you couldn't color Storm Summoning to look like a sand storm, but I haven't made any "Sand Storm" characters yet ... but obviously paired with Earth Control, Seismic Blast, etc. .... Ack, might have to make another Alt.

Foe Intangible powers. Where are they useful?
UltraAlt replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
If you don't min-max all your characters and, instead, build the characters based on character conception, there are instances where intangible powers make sense. I don't know if I've used all of them, but concealment>phase shift was very useful on stealthing missions before the sunset. Homecoming has made some changes that have made it less useful. I'm unsure if it still works this way (or really if it ever did) but, like Gravity Control>Dimension Shift, any phased character can fight against other characters that are phased. You can also use intangle powers to take enemies out of action in order to defeat the ones that are not phase shifted. So immobilize a mob and then Dimension shift the area that they are in. The ones caught inside can't fight you and the numbers that come out to fight you will be reduced. If you really want to you could go inside of the dimensional shift to fight the enemies, and jump in and out of the area to attack or to avoid them from attacking you. Finding what is useful in a power set or powertype is often a matter of understanding that bull-in-the-china-shop/hulk-smash isn't the only way to play the game/defeat opponents. -

I think a Corruptor would actually be a good way to go. It would up the damage a bit. I feel like Green Lanterns are more Blastery than they behave as Controllers. Radiation/Force Field - Radiation cuts through defenses/Forcefield for the obvious reasons. and, yeah, how can you not go for Will Power on a Green Lantern?! Flight would be a must have; also for obvious reasons. I agree with Leadership as well. No way ... really ... in City of Heroes to get the ranged big fist attacks, giant scissors, giant hammers, etc.

When the packs came out, I'm sure it was not the intent for players to be able to buy mass numbers of packs and turn around and sell large number of items from those packs on the market. The character items system is built into the email system. It seems to work on some of the same mechanics that the email system does. If what your suggesting is possible and it isn't too complicated to do, sure - why not? From own standpoint, automating the rapid retrieval of card pack items for market sales should be low on the DEVs priority list. The system functions. Would you rather have this than another powers set, cool costume parts, base items, power balancing, or new missions/task forces/etc.?

Does Vanguard have better portal tech than Portal Corp?
UltraAlt replied to biostem's topic in General Discussion
I believe you will find that the portals that are used by Vanguard are built by Portal Corp and installed by Portal Corps employees. Just look at the logo on the underside of the portals. You can even check the serial numbers. The units in Vanguard bases are the highest-grade commercial models, but they are not the most advanced portals that Portal Corps has developed. You aren't going to see Portal Corps employees in Vanguard bases because Portal Corps portals are installed only when Vanguard bases are locked down at the highest security level. Portal Corps uses the portals in Portal Corps to deliver their portals directly into Portal Corps bases. You don't want some heroes or villains flying (running, jumping) through a portal exit point. It could be disastrous. The portals downstairs in the Portal Corps building are built with much higher levels of safeguards because they are experimental models of advanced products that have the potential for malfunctioning. If the heroes that uses those portal just asked questions of the personnel at the front desk or waited to sign the disclaimer forms before rushing t through the security checkpoints (what? everyone gets to take a break at some point in their shift. The sign that his posted clearly states that they will be back in 15 minutes!), it all could be easily explained to them that they are risking their own lives to use the technology. But I guess no one has time to read EULAs any more at any rate. -
I think it is time to vacuum it out or get a new heatsink for your CPU before opening the case up that much for more airflow because your CPU is overheating ... and maybe don't overclock so much!

Or told stories about them. History books aren't always the complete truth. History books are the story of the victor - his story. This goes so far as Napoleon giving out medals that he had won in Egypt. His troops had, in fact, lost. If we go by current copyright laws, the copyrights would have run out on many mythological characters. I think that there is a line that can be drawn between mythological characters and folk characters/heroes. One, for sure, is that folk heroes/characters tend to be more recent history compared to mythological characters that tend to be 1000 or more years running with their notoriety (many of which set at +8,x8(+? - I think there is a game tweak these days to make it even higher than 8 )

Google translated Good day, fellow citizen of Paragon City! This is a new style map designed for a full team of 8 at x8+>4. I only see you on the map, and I guess there was more than one crowd in that room. There are situations where these rooms are empty, but that's rare unless there's an ambush in the way. If you want to see more enemies in the room, please join teams with more members and adjust your notoriety to increase spawn size.
