Prior to sunset, I mainly played Brutes and Corruptors, with a couple of Scrappers and a couple of Defenders for when I had to play blue side. On Homecoming, I've found that the only ATs I enjoy are Blasters and Corruptors. Prior to sunset, my favorite secondary was Electrical Armor. I had at least a half dozen */Elec Armor Brutes, if not more. It was my favorite for two reasons. I primarily fight Rikti, where Lethal, Energy, and Psionic Damage reign. Electrical Armor can handle all of that with ease. Plus there's the yummy +recharge. A friend told me that Radiation Armor is so much better than Electrical Armor on Homecoming though, so the first Brute I made was a Radiation Melee/Radiation Armor Brute. I got it to level 50, got it to veteran level 100 with all of the Incarnates Tier 4ed... but I wound up stripping and deleting the character as I could just never get into Radiation Armor. It's ugly, and too dependent on absorption and heals IMO. Second attempt was a Fiery Melee/Energy Aura Stalker. Again, I got it to level 50, got it to veteran level 100 with all of the Incarnates Tier 4ed... but I wound up stripping and deleting the character. Between runners and the annoying bug where Assassin's Strike would occasionally fail, I just decided that the whole AT is not for me. Third attempt was a Martial Arts/Energy Aura Scrapper. I got it to about level 35, and stripped and deleted it. I found the whole critical hit thing too random, and the lack of a taunt aura again meant runners. Fourth attempt was an Electrical Armor/Claws Tanker. I got it to about level 35, and stripped and deleted it. It just felt too lumbering, slow, and low damage. Fifth attempt was a Martial Arts/Electrical Armor Brute. I got it to level 50, and about veteran level 50 with all of the Incarnates Tier 4ed. I finally enjoyed a melee character... up until I had to tank Lord Recluse in the Miss Liberty Task Force, where the lack of knockback resistance hit me hard. I never recalled that happening with all of my various Electrical Armor Brutes prior to sunset, but a friend explained that we always had a Kin with us who kept spamming Increased Density on me, which is why I never noticed it. Since that wasn't an option this time around, Lord Recluse kept knocking me around Grandville. I tried a bunch of different methods to prevent it from happening again, but the only method that worked was to use Hover while tanking. Ugh. Stripped and deleted. Sixth attempt was a Radiation Melee/Energy Aura Brute. I got it to level 50... and it's feeling mighty squishy. Capped S/L/E defense is nice, but eventually hits get through, and sometimes within a couple I'm down and out for the count. Yes, I'm using Energize and keeping it perma-ed along with Hasten. I'm about this close to stripping and deleting it as well. I know Bio Armor is great, but that's out for me because much like Radiation Armor, it's ugly, even with minimal FX. Another issue I have with playing melee is that with the Incarnate content, melee is severely punished and it feels like I need to have a minimum of one ranged damage attack in the build to be semi-functional in Incarnate content. I don't know. Perhaps melee is just not for me anymore, but I'd be open to suggestions.

If all you care about are numbers, then yes, WM/Shield should be a Scrapper. Anything that does +damage (Claws, Dual Blades, Shield Defense, and Super Strength), is better off as a Scrapper or Tanker than as a Brute. That's because of Fury and how it is generated. For everything else, personally I go Brute because I hate runners (Scrapper), and Tanker defense is generally overkill.

Dual Pistols/Sonic Manipulation Blaster. Sonic Manipulation has a toggle which lowers the damage resistance of everyone in melee range. Since Dual Pistols likes being in melee range, go right on in there, let Disruption Aura soften the bad guys up, Hail of Bullets, and then Deafening Wave to finish off whatever is still standing. Mmm, toasty.

I'd rather play a Brute than a Scrapper because with the exception of a few Scrapper secondaries (Shield for example), I won't have to go chasing after mobs. YMMV. I look at Tankers the same way I look at Defenders: Overkill. Brutes are more than survivable enough for all content, and do more damage.

Honestly, it's not looking good at all for gaming on Macs as Elder Scrolls Online will not support new Macs and Guild Wars 2 just announced the end of all Mac support completely. In addition, from what I've been hearing elsewhere, Rosetta 2 is a stopgap measure that is only expected to be supported for a couple of years.

Ranged sets never give Range global?

Heh, yep. I was booted from a Hollows team back around Issue 4 because I was on a Radiation/Dark Blast Defender and wasn’t “a real healer.”

Incarnate content is rough on melee in general (although it's rougher on Masterminds), but they're by no means useless.

In all seriousness, the only thing that needs to be done is to nerf damage procs to the ground, (and it's coming, believe me). Once that occurs, I expect quite a few Defender characters to be rerolled as Corruptors. -

This is not directed to you, specifically. But this whole thread makes me sad and wonder exactly how much lasting damage was done to the game by letting the base macro exploit remain in the game as long as it was.

You do realize that the base macros still work if you're right beside a supergroup portal, correct?

I am already taking Clarion Core Destiny for Rikti mothership raids and Underground trials, and Rebirth Radial Destiny for Hamidon raids, so I only wanted to take one more Destiny. I think I'll take Ageless Radial Destiny and take Melee Radial Hybrid for when teaming. Make lazy Tankers fight for that aggro.

Bio/EM Tanker will easily do it, especially if you obtain the Longbow Lore pets. For AV and GM killing, EM is definitely better than Super Strength.

Yep. I have exactly one Defender, and the sole reason for that Defender is to be able to run the Barracuda SF if necessary. Other than that, I see no reason to play a Defender over a Corruptor. YMMV. -
There's a multitude of reasons why a lot of us that play CoH don't play those other MMOGs. You just listed one of them.

I lead Rikti mothership raids, where Clarion Core Destiny is absolutely vital, (along with Underground trials). So every character of mine takes tier 4 Clarion Core Destiny, even melee. Barrier and Rebirth on the other hand I've found to be mostly overkill and wasted on support characters. -
