1. 2. Homecoming operates five shards across two continents, four in Canada, one in Germany France. Covering 2,000 folks daily with room to expand up, vs. meting out resources so when there's a boom period we're not as likely to deal with queues and full servers.
-
Personally my only hangup with all of this is I don't want to advocate spending money on additional software to play Homecoming vs. waiting for Wine to have an answer that is no additional cost past hardware (which you'd need to obtain either way, PC or Mac fan.) If someone wants to take the plunge anyway and if "it's my money" is the first thought that comes to mind when I say that, Crossover does work ...as long as players understand that GM & Developer staff can't offer support for it if something goes wrong at this moment. Again, thank you and WanderingAries for sharing your experience in getting it running.

Good morning. Removed some posts. Politics, you all know the deal by now, I hope. Everything else is cool. Carry on. 🙂

Their fate will be clearer when news concerning the Mac Pro is made known. If Apple says that's the end of their line when it's time for the 2019 cheese grater to get a refresh, I can tip my hat to you. (Apps like Final Cut and Logic Pro can certainly still work on their laptops and iMacs, but really shine on bigger hardware.) Regardless, this has nothing to do with City of Heroes, so I'll stop there.

Not going to lie, saw Robert Kinsey and thought to myself, "Damn it Jellico!" (Ronny Cox still one of the best 'foils' to be cast in any series. 😄 )

Yup, Apple said Boot Camp has reached end of life for them. Not only is it not supported on Apple M1 Macs, but once the Intel Macs are discontinued from sales, it's basically no longer supported by Apple in any way. It's not all "boo Apple", it's curiosity for the PC side as well. Microsoft is rumored to be considering the same leap for Surface devices. (Nevermind that Surface Pro X has already been released, but it is running a Qualcomm Snapdragon, MS didn't 'design' the chip when they released it.) Apple is both a peek at what this means as well as a harbinger. Ignoring them or taking your money elsewhere isn't going to make the trend go away. Then again, for being the "Post PC Era", sales were expected before 2020 to continue slumping in favor of mobile devices and tablets to continue replacing home computers. Mobile work has changed that outcome. So if Apple M1 is supposed to be a shot across the bow of the big three to start counting their days (HP, Dell, Lenovo), they're not feeling it yet.

It's interesting how Television has First Season Syndrome, while movies have the opposite - very few sequels meet or exceed the original.

Will you people get out of my Netflix account? (12 episodes into the first season myself. Just started this on January 1st after marathoning all of Star Trek in 2020.)

As an FYI, HC Launcher will not require Mono and runs fine if you skip it (useful for low-storage situations), but Mids Reborn will require Mono for .NET support if you want to install that anyway. Gecko is Wine's method to get Internet Explorer based "WebView" components to work in Wine. For example, if you use Tequila instead of HC Launcher, the right side panel instead of loading Internet Explorer loads Gecko to display the webpage part. If you don't install Gecko, the panel is blank. If you answer no to both during Winecfg, HC Launcher and City of Heroes will still work. Answering yes to both is harmless, and will probably enable your Wine install for other apps later on.

Agreed. I'll sure miss you Rygel. 😞

You're missing "Farscape Sequel/Reboot". Frell yes, I want more puppets in space.

And keeping in mind Codeweavers Crossover is the paid version of Wine, it'll be (a non trivial) matter of time before Wine is patched to work on Apple Silicon. Whether that includes some caveats, if there's a gotcha involved due to Apple-involved changes in the future, or if Codeweavers wants to hold on to monetizing this development for it's own sake for a bit. All of which are valid. In any case, THANK YOU for giving it a spin on all of our behalf. I really appreciate it.

GM Tock replied to Pilchenstein's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yes, there is a command, and yes, it could be shorter. Feedback received. In addition, please try to assume good faith from folks giving suggestions. Let's move on. Topic locked. -
"Us" meaning the community at large, not just Homecoming Team. A sample size of 30ish people is much smaller than everyone who reads this after all.

The event has ended, and a player who was banned continues to circumvent their ban to draw attention to a resolved matter. This post is locked. A gentle reminder to folks that continuing a locked discussion is a Code of Conduct violation and will result in sanctions for additional accounts. Time to move on.

That was my hope, somebody among us got a Apple Silicon Mac and bought Crossover for something else, but tested it for Homecoming anyway. So far, no offers. I don't review PCs or electronics for a living, so don't hold your breath.

LTR versus LRT: Did I Miss Something?
GM Tock replied to CrudeVileTerror's topic in General Discussion
Guessing QWERTY laziness. If there was an Open Beta joke, I missed it. -
Okay, fine. I'll say it. (I'll hide it for folks who like surprises.)

Self-Support and volunteer advice forums (including here) aren't ever going to equate to paid support where only answers and expertise is permissable. Free as in beer (or as in freedom of speech) comes with a signal-to-noise ratio.

I don't see how any of it is whining. There are a lot of uncertainties, and if a opportunistic player does have their hands on an Apple M1-running MacBook or Mac Mini, personally I'd love to hear their experience trying to run Homecoming Launcher or Island Rum using Rosetta 2. Everything else until that happens is the same we have had since Apple made the announcement, a bunch of hypotheses and preferences. Same as anything I'd bring to the table. And this is a Support forum. Discussing computer issues are allowed. Expressing disinterest based on anecdotal use is okay, same as praise stories for a particular platform, but it's not why we're here. And it's not likely to get a lot of staff replies, since we're not interested in boosting or warding off sales from one platform over another. Configurations found to work in playing the game on any platform are more of an interest to us than platforms as a whole. Feasibility for the mainstream being a second priority. (Such as my recommendations to stay off of ARM on Chromebooks and Linux: if makefiles and compilers are involved to get it running, things stop being fun.) However, platform "brag-biting" or dumping on Apple, Microsoft or Linux for no reason than starting an argument isn't beneficial. (Not to say that is what you're doing, necessarily, because if it was the post wouldn't be there anymore.) There's plenty of places to hate on a company because they're not in a particular camp of users.

visual bug Incarnate Judgment - Ion Dark Version
GM Tock replied to Purrfekshawn's topic in Bug Reports
Bug Reporting is from a player's perspective. Threads pertaining to server programming will be locked going forward. Again, we'll call for help if it's needed in Developer's Corner. -
To the OP: Nothing has changed since the last thread that asked. When there is some development on this, it'll be shared in the Announcements forum, and possibly /motd worthy in-game as well. As far as the rest of this, there's no productive outcome in continuing to speculate about the talks. Thread locked.

Just because in game support is on vacation doesn't mean I take a break. Now that Festivus is over, your grievance is aired. You got the tools. Ignore, petition... Heck, if you don't like a particular channel, edit the tab and pull it out of rotation. This isn't anything new. Threads of this nature don't end well, however, so before folks cite real world examples and players reply in umbrage... Let's just move on.

This is directed at the Original Post, but something for all users to know. Server programming is past the scope of this whole forum. Key distinction, that: Not just bug reports, the entire forum itself. We are interested in hearing bug reporting from a player perspective. And the majority of readers in these forums are not programmers. Including yours truly, I'm nobody special. I put myself in that grouping as well. Put simply and respectfully, there is no frame of reference for players to discuss this past your own perspective. All I can tell you-- if there is a call for a programmer, specialist, or other technical work to be made, there will be an APB made in the Developers Corner area.

Same here, missed them all since the last time I pitched in. Merry Holidays!
