  1. This isn't yet a supported Launcher/Device combo. If you have feedback, this thread in Guides might be a better place to get help.
  2. Not going to lie, I'm not a fan of this development. Even if they take a hands-off approach and allow Discord to operate the same (which isn't likely to happen), it's another of many similar deals. One class of user is emboldened and realizes all the gains. Another told to leave and go find a different answer. Today, both have a home there, and I'm grateful for Discord especially in these times for all they've done to keep both happy, the typical eSports enthusiast as well as the smaller independent communities. There's nothing like it out there. There may not be anything like it again. My hope beyond hope is that this is a "fishing expedition". The Discord CEO is bolstering interest to an IPO to pay their creditors back instead of taking a quick payout (whether that pans out or not, no idea). But like Minecraft, no one is immune to a crazy large check with a single condition: "It's mine now, we got it from here." If that is the case, then I hope a competitor rises up to keep some of that magic Discord has today and spreads it around somewhere else.
  3. Just removed a bunch of posts. Please stay on topic and discuss the beta changes directly.
  4. I edit all my posts repeatedly. The next time you feel ashamed, you can tell yourself "well, GM Tahquitz does it too!" 😄
  5. Just checking, are you using multiple computers to play City of Heroes? The game saves window positions on the server from the last session, so if you're playing on a different graphic/monitor setup than your new system, everything will be out of whack each time you hop between systems. You can use the Chat Settings and Windows Settings "Save to File" buttons in the Windows tab on the Options menu. Position the windows how you like them on your new system. Also, choose your tabs and chat channels as well. In chat, type "/optionsave", followed by "/wdwsave". If you're a visual person, you can find the same two commands in the Options menu, Windows tab, scroll ALL THE WAY to the bottom. Next time you load a character you played on a different system, use "/optionload" and "/wdwload" to load your presets. You can even make a macro of the last step to put on your power trays or Macro window. If that isn't what's happening, let us know. (Credit to Healix for this info.)
  6. Make sure to follow the instructions here: Beta Servers do not get a copy of your characters by default. Use the Beta Account Center to schedule a transfer of a character to the Beta Server. You will only see characters who are at least Level 2 and on your current Global Account. For another Global Account, log out and back into the forums with the correct credentials. Costume files saved on your client will still work on Beta. If you want to transfer a Level 1 character, simply saving their costume in Icon on live and making a new character with the same power choices in Beta upon login works too. The same character can be copied to Beta multiple times. Each copy will have a number appended. (Superguy, Superguy1, Superguy2, etc.) Beta Testing means you only keep a copy of your characters for the extent of a test. The server is wiped semi-regularly, so don't count on progress gained there. You can move ANY live character to Beta at any time, so if your character makes progress on Live, your Beta character can be replaced with a fresh copy at any time. But never the other way around. Builds made on Beta can be boosted with commands not available on Live. Check the Quickchat menu (next to the Chat box) and look for a "Freebies Menu", or visit a Merit Vendor. Incarnate pane costs are free of charge. Boost a character to Level 50 to be able to purchase Incarnate Powers.
  7. Use the Support Area and create a new support ticket to request an account deletion.
  8. From Microsoft's website. Choose the same bits you launch from Tequila with: if you use the 64-bit client, install Visual C Runtime for 64-bit. (Vice Versa for 32-bit.)
  9. Easiest possible fix: Windows Update had a patch for Visual C Runtime. Restarting and allowing the updates to finish may resolve it. If not, another possibility is the Visual C Runtime was removed. Homecoming needs the runtime to operate the client.
  10. Thanks, and yes: DisplayPort: Physical Connection, looks like an HDMI plug except one of the sides are squared off and there's 'teeth' that require a button press to uncouple from a monitor. DisplayPort is 4K capable and beyond, and is required for monitors over 60 Hz to realize their full capability. (Thunderbolt, DisplayPort and USB-C are converging together under the USB 4 standard, so even this connector may not be the 'forever' connector that HDMI is trying to be.) DisplayLink: Usually USB-Based, technology to add additional and portable screens to Windows and Mac systems with a single driver installation regardless of manufacturer. (Linux works with very strict requirements... and the only driver they release is Debian-based.)
  11. DisplayLink is a software-based graphics adapter. It's awesome for what it is and I really like it, but you shouldn't try to run City of Heroes natively on a DisplayLink monitor. Or in your case, on a regular monitor plugged into a DisplayLink Hub, regardless of how -- VGA, HDMI, DP, etc. (And yes, I know by virtue of typing that, someone's going to fire up a Virtual Machine to prove me wrong... 😄 ) The video ports on your laptop are linked to your graphics card/integrated graphics system, and will deliver far better performance. Same goes for any USB based Graphics Adapter that isn't an enclosure for an external GPU. (Plugable, J5Create, Belkin, etc.) They will do anything 2D based very well. 3D... it's never going to meet or exceed output from on-board or graphic card based ports. Advice: Play the game on your laptop screen, and have your supplemental windows (HCWiki, music, Discord, etc.) on the DisplayLink or USB display instead.
  12. This is a rewritten guide, prior comments from the initial version have been moved.
  13. By request of the OP from the original guide writer, I'm moving posts to here from the prior thread that's been revised. All of his comments based on the old guide have been removed. All others remain intact.
  14. Had to remove some posts. Please keep civil when replying to discussion. Thanks!
  15. This is a Help forum. Hid some posts this morning. Please keep civil in replies, please.
  16. As a follow-up in subsequent testing, I've been getting file not found errors in Lutris myself. The recent versions have a modal window that appears on start saying "Lutris is Launching" with a progress bar and no indication of when it finishes. I got impatient and Force Quit that panel, then Lutris comes up anyway. That's what caused the errors in my case. The app is actually doing something in that process that runs only once after an update. Just close and reopen it, grab a snack, and let it finish. If it still happens then reboot and see if it clears up. DXVK should come with Lutris, so a separate install shouldn't be necessary unless you want to be on the bleeding edge.
  17. Almost. Login to a character normally, in-game, use "Menu", "Chat Handle..." It'll display your global name, and if you have a waiting Global Rename token, the "Rename" button. If you don't have a token, you'll just see OK. Everyone gets one chance from account creation to rename a global (in case your first toon made isn't your desired global name or chat handle.) If the name you want is already taken, the token won't be spent. You'll see an error message and you can try again until it succeeds (or you can try again later when a better muse strikes). If you don't have a token, you can ask for another one by filing a Support Ticket with a GM. (Click the link, then "Create".)
  18. Hold up, pump the brakes. Lighthouse is back? Awesome! I miss that guy! (I'm kidding. Ignore me. 😁 )
  19. As stated below: "No deadlines. [...] we can't promise to make any deadlines you've may have. If you really want your laptop working for City of Heroes before a trip, 48 hours in advance is more reasonable to work with than, let's say, standing at the gate before you fly out of an airport..." (To be fair, the OP was initially posted in Help & Support, but that part of the forum isn't a place to leave notes like these, so here we are.) The rest of the points I hunbly leave for others to discuss.
  20. As in other topics, please try to remain civil in discussion everyone. Breathe. Exhale. Take a few minutes or an hour if you need. And never post angry. 🙂 Carry on.
