  1. I think this is a good change. Veteran levels should be earned in the ‘real world’ of City of Heroes and a high Veteran level shouldn’t mean ‘spent a long time farming in AE’. AE gives plenty of rewards still and I don’t think this changes that fact; you still get salvage, influence and recipes - plus incarnate xp to unlock the actual slots. I always feel like Vet Levels are a prestige thing. Plus it’s easy to get good xp with incarnate content; especially once you’ve got a level shift or two. I speak as someone with 2 characters of vet level 50-80 and a lot of that was from AE and Dark Astoria.
  2. Also a bit of a tease with the Mastermind Merc adjustments - for a second I thought the long awaited buffs to the set had arrived! It’s a set that routinely gets mentioned for needing some love. Any chance some positive adjustments could be sprinkled on while it’s being tweaked? Serum could use some better numbers. Likewise Commando and Spec Ops have long recharge powers so often use them unnecessarily, and overall the pets damage could do with a slight uptick!
  3. Really love the radiation infection cast time change. Missed it on first read of the patch notes because it’s buried under miscellaneous…! It might be a good time to do a quick pass on a lot of offensive toggles though? Darkest Night is a similar power with another long cast time. There are definitely some outlier powers RE: cast time in the control/support sets. Quicksand is another!
  4. I love infiltration, it’s great for my more natural characters and I quite enjoy having to consider and interact with the environment more to get from A to B!
  5. To be honest, sometimes it’s nice just to have RP options without it actually having a huge impact in game. Especially as you can’t change it. If anything I would go the other way - I’d love for more bio options that could be preset with no effect on the character’s performance.
  6. Spectral terror would be a good level 18 power. Blind would have to lose its hold, as would flash. The level 12 henchman could be fun to think about. Overall I agree that Illusion would make a great Mastermind set!
  7. To be fair if you’re a MM in a team I think its perfecty reasonable to consider your teammates your lackeys (with sometimes increased AI)!
  8. Agree 100%. When I’m on my PC playing I’m usually trying to relax and unwind, not be super social. Most people I know are generally the same. Now we would jump on Discord if we were doing something like M+ on WoW so we could better communicate, but most people I know wouldn’t want to do that all the time unless it was needed. The only person I can think of who does like to be on voice chat a lot is because he has difficulties typing and reading fast enough to communicate in real time over text.
  9. I find discord (and voice chat) takes me out of the immersion of the game, and so I find it more peaceful and enjoyable without it. Also I find it a bit awkward speaking to strangers on voice. Now if it’s friends you already know that’s fine, as it’s like hanging out, but also completely different! CoH is a pretty casual game that often doesn’t need voice chat levels of communication to work. Even in other MMOs voice chat is generally limited to guild/community groups with people you are familiar with and not often used for strangers. Also some people are just really annoying on voice chat. Some get really angry when they die and it puts everyone else off. Others won’t shut up and give the group a break. And others can be really INTENSE (I’ve experienced all of these and often had the unfortunate task of trying to moderate this!). Now you could use the discord server as a pure LFG tool, but ingame tools is the best place for that. There are official and unofficial channels for LFG? I’m sure there are improvements that can be made.
  10. More updates to keep the game fresh. That’s not a knock on the devs btw, but maybe invite more of the community to help with the project.
  11. I did this once (accept the no travel powers). Was awesome.
  12. Not my most ‘powerful’ character, but I really enjoy my Thugs/Empathy MM. It is the one Empathy AT where you can really play as a ‘team support’, even when solo. While Defenders have better pure support numbers, they can’t utilise the full toolkit while solo like a MM can. Any of the support sets that focus more on empowering allies are really fun as a MM. /Thermal looks the most fun to me but I haven’t played it high yet. Sorry I know you said you already play a lot of control/support @oedipus_tex, but I noticed you said you hadn’t played much MM. To make it more fun while leveling as a MM I recommend increasing the number of enemies quite a bit but not their level. Then it becomes a proper war!
  13. Talking about Thermal on MMs. I’m a fan of Demons/Thermal and will probably be my next main character. I think Thermal really works well with pets by making them tougher and being able to heal. Plus Demons are high damage, support themselves and offer more shielding, but also offer more -res with the whips (and I think hellfire demons do -res too?) Seems like a good package to me!
  14. Personally I always find the advantage of increased support numbers (buffing and debuffing), plus superior numbers from power pools, such as Leadership and Fighting, really make me favour the Defender. Corruptors really pull ahead in damage numbers when in Teams, but CoH being what it is, most Teams are normally pretty good on the damage front! As mentioned I think one of the biggest differences just comes down to the level which powers become available, which actually tends to steer your play style through what powers you can choose and when.
  15. Yeah it’s a bit of a funny one. Dark/Dark is great but there is a constant battle between wanting to be close and wanting to use cones. I think with other secondaries I might use it more. In truth I haven’t experimented much with that character for quite a while!
  16. I forgot to say that yes, my Rad/AR is thematically a radioactive flamethrower guy (with snipe and full auto thrown in). He uses the classic AR gun as it has a great flamethrower type canister underneath. I did play with him having Ignite but the activation time was so bad that is wasn’t fun. I might look at it again as I think they’ve changed it Both Defender builds lean on Char/Dominate to really excel. As Mind Control is one of my old favourites, I like how Psychic Blast with the Psychic APP plays on a Defender, with a mixture of great attacks and some light control. I actually prefer this to the Dominator play style. Empathy was pure theme but there are better primaries that could make him much more powerful.
  17. Cheers 🙂 Yes there is a theme I guess, I like to bring a lot of support to groups but still be able to solo fine. I like my characters to be quite battle hardened and tough, and I love giving out the leadership bonuses (plus the numbers are so high for Defenders!). With my Empath there is a slot free which could be used for clear mind/vengeance/victory rush. He is actually very powerful with the psi nuke - massive damage and great stun. On my Dark/Dark I think I start by running into the middle of a group and hitting the PBAoE stun. Followed by Soul Drain for the +damage buff (has a tiny radius unfortunately). Quite a lot of his powers are PBAoE, such as Soul Absorption, which caps his regen and recovery. I don’t really notice the lack of Fearsome Stare, as he has so much -hit from other sources. He’s a great character and very versatile. The only thing that is a bit naff is the cone immobilise - it doesn’t synergise with the rest of his powers and the effect can be hard to keep track of on enemies.
  18. My 3 main builds for my characters. I really enjoy all 3! The Empath is a great support character who brings a lot of firepower. The Rad/AR can decimate enemies with debuffs and is partial to a lite of flamethrower/fire action. Dark/Dark is very tanky with lots of great debuffs, but probably lower on the damage.

  22. Blessing of the Zephyr 2 slot is good. You can get knock back protection (if you need it), a buff to speed and the 2 set bonus is ranged defence and helps towards getting to the soft spot. Other options include using it as a mule for any Defence IOs or uniques. Such as Luck of the Gambler. It’s quite a versatile power and one of my favourite forms of travel!
  23. Earth/Storm is my favourite, it is just so EPIC. Both sets have amazing visuals and sounds and you can just dominate any battlefield. I like to change the Earth to the Molten look and pair it with Fire APP and judgement for the full works!
  24. Always wondered myself. side note: I always thought it would be cool if the entrance music for missions played the whole way through the map, for added atmosphere…
