  1. Objections This isn't really something that can be addressed. This is entirely on you to read a quick explanation of a ultra simple mechanic like the ones featured in city of heroes. EM's purposed Mechanic does not feature any of this, even if you do not see the buff that appears it will just work, there is no multi layering to the buff to keep track of. It appears and it gets used and regardless of what it is used on you benefit from its use. Beyond this i cannot defend the mechanic any further, i cannot answer any concerns you may have. If those answers are not good enough for you, then it is not good enough for you and you owe no further explanation of it not being good enough for you. Discussion is a take and give you can't really let it be a personal insult when someone disagrees with you because they may just be trying to explain their point of view since you have offered yours, when the difference in opinion is clearly a loop though, the only thing left to do is move on.
  2. My only problem is with the It's not that I don't like it, it just doesn't really fit with accolades since those aren't something everyone is going to have, though they can, they won't. I think just a boost to stat is likely a better choice since everyone regardless can benefit from it. Replacement ideas, Recharge/Accuracy/Tohit , 3% / 6% / 5% (only one tho not all 3) Also I'd go with slightly higher res bonus since def/res isn't 1 to 1 I'd go with a 3% res to match the 1.5% def
  3. I'm not trying to minimize your objection, I'd like to understand it better and to be honest if it's just because you don't want to side eye your buff bar to see if you have enough fun bucks to use a specific power, understandable but as the other posts before me have said, That's not the case with most sets bar Savage/Water/Street/Staff. Using EF as an example, It's a passive thing that can activate randomly when using specific powers or instantly when using TF. It's not something you have to pay attention to, it just kind of happens and you benefit from it. Also quick edit; you don't really have to watch your bar either. When you do trigger the mechanic on -most- sets with a gimmick, your powers highlight.
  4. It was actually stalkers, AS > ET = dead Also i'm not sure where this gripe about mechanics comes from. Most "Mechanic" sets don't punish you for mindless play, though a guy above already went through and explain that. You'd think coh mechanics were this big mandatory strict thing instead of a off-thing you kinda follow / babies first rotation priority.
  5. Cottage rule is an off-hand comment a dev said as a general guideline they follow and people took it too literal and it has now become anti-progress / balance. I wouldn't always consult it for every change unless you're literally trying to make energy melee shoot cottages.
  6. Self rezzes in general, wish they had an alive activation purpose. I think sentinel regen is a good example of making a self rez cool
  7. A part of the set under-preforming isn't about the ST damage in the first place. Your ST output with activation time removed on EM doesn't change a whole lot at the end of the day. The utility part of the set is the main problem. Whirling hands is god awful and stun doesn't do anything worth while. So the set even if changed would literally be Energy Transfer > Total Focus and everything else sucks. EM's utility is stun and it only works on one guy which in a team centric game and even solo play is pretty underwhelming. So if you just reverted ET you'd still have issues with your utility under preforming and your AoE also being bad. 2 bads and 1 good is still bad. A good example is probably Electric Melee. It does AoE amazingly and does -end pretty ok. Even though -end is a widely debated debuff, it still does it pretty well. It's ST isn't the strongest but it's still ok. So you have AoE Amazing / Utility good / ST good.
  8. Look at Meltdown for an idea of what Paragon was gonna do to T9s. The "Crash" is basically gone and for good reason. Soft-crashing was the future to make T9s relevant again.
  9. p.sure the AMA's were Paragon after the game closed.
  10. I take issue with the term "purist" because just simply by playing the current version of CoH you're already too far detached to be an actual purist of anything, everything without exception has changed dramatically since launch. I also take issue with "You're forcing your opinions on people" on the forum literally meant for you to push your ideas on people. Theres a correct way to do it, inviting discussion and accepting criticism and a wrong way to do it, yelling at clouds about people not knowing anything and making assumptions about what they do and do not play. I made one of these mistakes earlier and apologized for it myself so it does happen and can be corrected.
  11. I meant the opposition to my opinion no disrespect. Just as I'm apart of the opposition to your opinion. Yeah of course there is many people who don't comment on all sides. Hence what I mean by vocal minorty. Cant speak on behalf of everyone no matter what.
  12. Not you on EF, the other person who made the dev time comment. Also, I see the opposition here and everywhere else, even so vocal minority. It wouldn't fix the set to a lot of people, which is a fact yes. Just like how it would fix it for you is a fact. That's how personal opinions work. What it wouldn't fix objectively is it being out classes in ST and AoE still.
  13. Impossible to tell and I'm uninterested in just assuming, I remember old EM though and it wouldn't fix the set. Not to say things other than a mechanic wouldn't but just a revert won't fix anything.
  14. Yikes. Thinking this of stalkers just big yikes. Also the mechanic does exist and won't take dev time. It's the energy assault gimmick you can play right now. Is a good example of things that need reworked yes. @Troo you keep using imaginary people to support your dislike of a change that you haven't played. The tiny vocal minority on both forums and discord is not a defining point for or against any one side. More people spoke in support of em changes on disc then there are people in this topic combined. So if we go just off vocal minority you wouldn't like it. Time and data will have to speak for itself. Still away replies will be spaced.
  15. You wouldn't be getting what you want. But i hope you'd at least be open to trying it out without going in with a bias to instantly dislike it. Even if we don't get something like EF, as long as EM gets attention and the set feels better to play I'm happy with whatever they try. Nothing. The weekly discussion on the discord was heavily in favor of a new mechanic to solve the issues, adding something other than 1-4 combat and addressing concerns at the same time. It's a larger discussion in real time you should come by and get involved! not that the forums aren't also an excellent place to voice opinions/give feedback. I feel I've said what i could, I won't be around to respond to stuff for awhile so i leave with the final thought of scrapper EM please. please?
  16. I do see it from your side, I'm sorry if im not conveying that. Though i do agree, our opinions on how to update the set are likely to remain different. I just hope you're able to see where I and many people are coming from on the EF bandwagon side of this. My suggestion would keep the current animation time, unless you have an Energy Focus proc which would revert it to a quicker version. All EF would do is just change specific powers for a 1 time use until it procs again doing either a faster ET, more damage for whirling, or a cone stun. Not all at the same time or in rapid succession mostly as a way to keep the set as is but also fix some of the common complaints. Like i said above though, I could see how some people could view it as limiting and would just prefer a revert / damage increase instead of needing to pay attention to a new mechanic. Whatever they choose to do though, I am willing and open to testing and discussing how it has changed the set either for the best or worst and go from there.
  17. and like that the conversation is over. This is pretty rude and dismissive and a sign that its time to move on.
  18. It's still the same family and also wasn't a live change, It's a HC change. So I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen. I also still don't really agree with you that it would be bad for EM since the overall gimmick is at its core just a damage increase. A lot of this seems to be general fear mongering of change without ever giving it a chance to be tested or even discussed, which to me is more dangerous for this game in the long run than anything else. Theres a lot of things that are relics of a City of Heroes that is long gone and could use an update to fit the current state of the game. That doesn't mean removing identity or changing the sets beyond recognition, it just means updating lack luster things to include the modern mechanics of the game (Absorb for example). Which is something that would have happened had the coh devs had more time. See t9 overhauls for a prime example of updating sets that never got to happen. A prime example of this is also Blasters. Blasters are in a much better place because of Nuke/Snipe/Sustain changes. Most of the sets got a completely new power to support their update to the entire AT and the class is objectively better for it. Change isn't always bad.
  19. I don't disagree with you that the alternative route is also fine. However, I think both routes is gonna take a lot of testing. I can see how the added need could change it for some people though, when you word it like that. You make a pretty good point. It's entirely possible EF could over complicate the set if the solution is as easy as just raising damage on a couple powers. The problem with reverting ET, raising the damage on whirling hands is its possible the set could over-preform and will require very delicate balancing to prevent over-preforming. I'm okay with both options, though my preference would be something a little more exciting like the newer sets. EM for scrappers i think is a pretty agreed upon topic at least. 🙂
  20. Nobody is suggesting your preference be completely reworked. Adding a mechanic that has already improved energy assault without changing its core functions has already happened. Energy Assault feels exactly the same except its able to keep up. Doing the same for EM wouldn't take away anything from its current line up, only add to its resourcefulness. I'd love to hear exactly how adding that mechanic would actually harm the set for you, as i mentioned before it wouldn't even hurt your ability to choose a rotation. On a side note, It's pretty weird how different the conversation has gone in the discord compared to the forums. The poor devs have very loud outspoken opinions on the complete opposite end of the pool.
  21. You know i tried to edit that part out after re-reading it and going "Well thats just rude and not helpful" but i guess i wasn't quite fast enough, apologies for the rude part of that.
  22. Spoon handle. EM needs 2 of the three things this topic suggests it doesn't, Luckily, both are solved by one simple thing that's already in game and attached to an Energy set already. Energy Focus. That's the solution, It's already there and proven successful to better a set that needed help. Energy focus keeps the EM identity by using ST attacks to proc a mechanic to increase your singular AoE. You're still king of the ST while improving your ability to kill non-bosses quicker, solving the biggest complaint about EM other than the animation for ET. If you truly wanted it to go further, you could have Energy Focus make it so ET is an instant attack using up the EF, making EF procs situational and giving you the choice of improving your ST or your AoE. For you stun lovers, you could also include EF proc to increase your mag stun on the ability stun, giving it 3 choices per EF proc on which situational power you feel you need. (or alternatively, just EF increases stun mag across board on whatever ability you use) I saw earlier someone mentioned mechanics deciding your rotation for you. Luckily, EF solved that by making all non-effected powers capable of triggering EF so even if you like a specific opener, you can still do so to your hearts content. With multiple selections to use EF on, you also gain freedom to use effected powers without missing out on the benefit of EF. So fire away with whatever you'd like and you'll still benefit from it. At least thats my take on this whole EM discussion across all topics/discord.
  23. A new snake-mook offshoot
  24. I could see that but i mean. Snakes tho amirite seriously though, Positron is about the Vaz and a close second in lowbie danger is snakes. Could make for a good but challenging low level SF.
