  1. A friend of mine is making a Radiation Villain as well, which we will level a bit today. We'll show up around 20:00 CET and contact you. Then we'll see what happens, and if you can accomodate us. Otherwise we'll just do something else. No worries. Thanks for the reply.
  2. I had forgotten about this, as life tends to intervene. I might be able to join this Friday, but my Radiation toon is still level 22. Would that be a problem? I don't know what half the arcs you mention are.
  3. I mean cost, compared to buying from Intel/AMD/NVidia. In house is probably a lot cheaper, especially when they already develop for the iPhones. And the logistics are a lot simpler as well. Tim Cook is all about reducing costs and efficiency, he has very little vision, just like when Steve Ballmer took over at Microsoft. Nearly all programs I use are open source, usually some form of Unix/Linux based, and nearly all run on OSX natively. They are not from the AppStore, about half I have compiled myself. Some of this code is ancient. I have programs that do not understand file systems, but think in in-tape, out-tape and program-tape, and with which I interact over a simulated 8-bit terminal. We were still running tape-based computers until about a decade ago, as a well tuned system can deliver about 500 MB/s and store TBs of data. Now we use a 200x GTX1080 cluster to process our data. As a result, I care very little about the stuff that the AppStore has to offer. And my games are on Steam and GoG, and not some beefed-up iPhone "game" riddled with monetization. Apple was best from 2006-2012, after the switch to Intel, but before they went crazy with their hardware form-over-function choices and introduced the AppStore to Mac. Even their hardware was competitively priced back then, often being on par with similar priced Windows machines from Dell and IBM/Lenovo.
  4. My 2010 Mac Pro is stuck on High Sierra. It is quite a nice machine, from a time when Apple actually built machines you could upgrade. I have 32GB of RAM in it, HyperX Predator ACPI PCIe SSDs 2300MB/s which are OSX bootable, a MacVidCards Nvidia GTX 980 and the Xeon X5690 6-core 3.5 GHz. I also have a bunch of SATA disks, but the Mac only has SATA 2 (300MB/s), so quite slow and why I have the HyperX. It was faster than any Mac that Apple sold though, at least until they released the iMac Pro in 2017. I am a Software Developer by day, and gamer by night, and we use CUDA and NVidia for large scale data processing. I was really happy with the support from Nvidia for OSX, for many years and more modern GPUs than Apple ever put in a Mac. But when Apple went with Metal, they didn't allow Nvidia to write a driver for it, that's why this machine is stuck on High Sierra. I still really like OSX, but Apple has abandoned me with their hardware choices. 1) My Mac Pro is stuck on High Sierra because of some stupid fight with Nvidia. Why could Apple not go with Vulkan instead if they wanted to ditch OpenGL? 2) My Macbook Pro is stuck on Mojave, because we use several 32-bit applications at work. 3) I find the Touchbar beyond useless. It fades out, so you have to tap it twice to push a key. The keys jump around when the screensaver activates. And I have not found a single use for it. The advantages that it could have are not realized, as you can not freely match keys onto it, e.g. combine volume controls and F-keys. As a programmer it is very annoying to not have a proper ESC key. 4) This keyboard is horrible. Since Covid-19 I have to type a lot more on the built-in keyboard of my Macbook Pro. It often repeats keys, especially "o" and "l". 5) Also, if Touchbar is so great, then why is there no external keyboard that supports it, when I am behind my desk and nice big monitor? This way it is never going to be part of my workflow. 6) I have been using bootcamp more and more over the past 3 years. I still hate Windows, but there are fewer programs that run on MacOS, especially Nvidia related. 7) I do not believe that ARM based Macs will run bootcamp/Windows 10. I have a whole library of games that are no longer updated, which only have Intel binaries, if they have a Mac port, or are Windows only. 8 ) Oh, and dongle hell is real. Why can't I have a few legacy ports on my Macbook? I don't care if it makes it 2mm thicker and 50g heavier, my old 2011 Macbook Pro was just fine. I will really miss OSX, but I am so done with Apple's hardware choices over the past 7 years, starting with the rubbish 2013 Mac Pro. Those AMD 5000 series CPUs and 6000 series GPUs look good, and NVidia's 3000 series are very nice as well. The price/performance of the 2019 Mac Pro is a joke in comparison. I can build a Ryzen based system for 25% of the price of a high end Mac Pro, that will outperform it in most cases I care about. In 2010 the price/performance of Apple was a lot more competitive. Sorry for the rant. I just had to get that of my chest.
  5. I have the same problem. To me it occurred when I selected Mistress Eva in Find Contact, and teleported to her. The issue is that I am a Praetorian, so not allowed to be on Talos Island. When I arrived at Eva, within a second I was booted back to Praetoria. My Mission/Nav has been stuck on Mistress Eva ever since. I can select another contact, mission entrance, etc. But within a second it jumps back to Eva. I have levelled most of First Ward, and some of Night Ward since then, and have logged in/out many times over the past month or two.
  6. Sorry, life intervened (or more specificially, a visit from family from Stockholm), so I didn't really get much play time lately.
  7. I'm only from the Epoch of Re-ionization, so I guess you win. (I'm from 1976, so not even older than the OP, but had to react to this astronomy reference).
  8. This is brilliant. Me and my friends mostly play together, but we always stop to read player backgrounds when we meet others. (In Atlas Park this can be a major slowdown). We try to have backgrounds on all our characters, some better than others. If we would encounter you in game, we would have a little celebration and try to applaud you. I love creative characters and backgrounds like this. On topic: When I joined again last May, about a year after Homecoming went live, I had hoped to still be able to re-create all my old characters, that I had diligently saved with Sentinel Plus, so many years ago. Most went fine, a few untfortunately were taken, but Auch, Space Cat, Robot Catgirl, are a few I am happy to have been able to recreate, a they seem common enough for me. My other characters have names not likely to be already in use, except for Girl Power and Lavender Death, which were unfortunately both taken on Reunion.
  9. How do you get a Pillar of Ice and Flame in your base? I can't find it in the placable items, and the hcwiki on it seems outdated.
  10. I'm not a high level player, but to me, this sums up quite well why I don't like the Scourge mechanic. I do like Corruptors, although I am nowhere near end game (level 33 max), so I can't compare them to other ATs. The Scourge inherent just seems to add very little and is not an interesting mechanic that you can try to aim for in how you use your powers. What I find is that on a Corruptor, I'm often making a choice between going for my damage powers and trying to kill the mobs before they kill me, or going more on the crowd control and debuff, and then slowly whittle down the enemies. I think Scourge would be a lot more interesting if it interacted with this choice, like giving more damage on enemies that are affected by my non-damaging powers, although that might make it much harder to kill those that I already struggle with, so I don't think that's the right solution.
  11. This seems to be the best solution presented so far. We do not want separate Super Group bases. We want to be in one Super Group, what's the point of a Super Group otherwise? None of the offered suggestions and solutions scale with the number of active players in the Super Group, except for this one, especially now that we can make 1000 alts. Edt: I don't want to sound mean to people, I do appraciate all the answers. It's getting a bit late here, and then I tend to be more cranky in my responses. We have already scaled back to about 1 enhancement storage and 3 salvage storage per player, to accomodate 4 players in the Super Group. Our group might soon grow by a few more. We are still quite low level (33 is highest level) and crafting is the main way we make money. We can't afford to not store things and use the AH instead for quite a few things that people suggest. The main reason we need storage is to pool the salvage and enhancements that are gathered on all characters, and use those to craft and equip the other characters. Doing the recepies by mail is already a major pain, if we would also need to do salvage and enhancements by mail it would be very inconvenient. We don't want to hoard. We just want the Super Group storage to scale with the number of members it has.
  12. How do you run this in game? Do you use Discord? I have a level 20-ish toon called Straling that would fit the theme. I might see if I can be online next Friday, if you're still running.
  13. I'm telling everyone I can. We need a vibrant community if we want to keep this game.
  14. I have been using Macs since 1997. I have been playing games on Mac since 2004, between 2007-2017 exclusively, I had no other gaming platform. For the last 3 years, I've been using Bootcamp more and more. Gaming on Mac is in a bad place at the moment, ever since they went form-over-function, overheating, underperforming hardware around 2013. Studios and publishers that used to release all their games on Mac as well, often no longer do, this will get a lot worse if the it becomes harder to port the games because of large differences in architecture. I am shopping around for an RTX3080 based windows machine right now, the first Windows machine I will buy since 2004. I do not expect any of my current games to work on the new ARM Macs. I am planning to abandon the platform after 20+ years, even though I love OSX and think it is the best desktop and OS experience by a mile. I see the announcement as a big FU to people like me, and am not planning to continue with Apple. I don't know what their beef is with NVidia, Intel and others, but I do not see this as a customer friendly move. I know ARM is great at what it does, and maybe Apple is going to get desktop performance out of it, although I don't see where they will go with the Mac Pro any time soon. I have no faith in any kind of long term support from them, so I will abandon the ecosystem. It's a bean-counter move, looking at logistics, margins and hardware manufacturing costs. Your efforts are really appreciated, but I'm not expecting CoH to be available/playable on Apple ARM Macs. Do not worry too much about it. Macs are a lost cause for "PC gaming", I only expect glorified mobile titles to work on their systems in the future. Sorry for the rant.
  15. Your humour is great and the FAQ also gave me the answer I was looking for. Thanks.
  16. So, me and my friends are all in a single SG. And we're slowly getting more friends to join the game. We currently have 3 very active members, but those are now using all the available storage in the SG base. A 4th guy is really getting into the game, but that is making base storage a pain. We're also getting to be higher level, so salvage and enhancements are getting more and more varied. Salvage and enhancement storage in the base is by far the easiest way to swap stuff between alts. We would like to keep one SG base, as it is fun running into each other while crafting and slotting with alts and such. We each have our own chambers, and also communal areas, a villain hide-out, the hero club, and a praetorian area. Having all in one base makes it feel alive, and we can help each other and feel like a group/team. Are there any solutions to this problem?
  17. Welcome back. I discovered it in May. altoholism is real in this game.
  18. Yeah, I went through my old player notes as well, when I reconnected.
  19. Yes, we're now going trough the story arcs with a group of 4 friends, some who have never played the game before. The stories are awesome, but making sure you do them in the right order, and that you stop XP gain before you out level the arcs is a huge pain. XP gain is completely out of whack with progression.
  20. There are some really gorgeous costumes. Congratulations to the winners. Maybe next time I can join as well. I really like the Doctor Fate inspired costume.
  21. I do tick most of these boxes, but I am a bit unclear about what it means to be a GM, both in tasks and what kind of time requirements there would be. I once ran a 200+ person WoW guild for a couple of years, but that became more of a second job, which I would not want to repeat.
  22. I tried the "default" client this week on two Macs. It seems to have these changes? It updated XQuartz, Wine, Mono and Gecko stuff, then ran the game. No problems at all. Tried on Mojave 10.14.5 and High Sierra 10.13.6 My friends on Linux are also really happy with Island Rum.
  23. Content I never got around to exploring all the content that existed, so I just want to be able to keep playing the game for the next years. Only got to level 49 on live. New content is nice though, especially if it finishes existing story lines. I would take new powers, abilities, balancing and such at a slow pace, I would want to keep the game recognizable for what it was. Some more immersion. Weather, stuff you can do while out on the streets, interaction with the citizens, stuff that varies by time of day, or day of the week. Development I would like the development to be set up in such a way that we can contribute. Me and several my friends are proficient coders/software engineers, albeit with busy jobs, and I would love to just be able to submit a bugfix for a problem I encounter. Some updates to the graphics engine and some of the in game graphics would be nice. Not a complete overhaul, but maybe a fix for the weird lighting issues between inside/outside, some textures, and in the long run a few more polygons here and there, especially the oldest content. I would really like to see continued support for Mac and Linux, and I'm willing to help with that when I can. Operations I am happy to pay a monthly fee, just like I used to. But I would prefer my friends who might not all want or be able to contribute, can access all the content. Please don't put any content behind a pay wall, I thought that putting Going Rogue/Praetoria behind a VIP account on live, was a very stupid thing in the past, as it was some of the most enjoyable content in the game and a great selling point. Community One of the best things about CoH has always been the community and the friendly and helpful atmosphere. Your resources will be limited, but trying to keep the community and build upon it will be important. I've already got 3 people to play the game who have never done so before 2020. Remove toxic players, fight hackers, and work on recruitment through the existing networks people have.
  24. Things are down (again). Looks like they are aware of the problems. Good luck solving the issues. I help maintain a few hundred servers myself, it can be hard to figure out such problems.
  25. I think that it's actually quite good that people are not confronted with pool powers at level 1. I had two friends who joined the game for the first time last month, and things were confusing enough. The starter zones are small. I also believe that the original developers did not give all the travel powers the same max speeds on purpose, as some are "easier" than others. Speedsters often need to take a detour and should be the fastest. Flight is the easiest and should be the slowest. Superjump and Teleport are somewhere in between. I don't know the numbers of Sorcery, Experimentation and Force of Will well enough to know if they are balanced against those, they feel more powerful and versatile, although not by a lot.
