Brunch and Brawl. Saturday 10am Eastern. Blue side gaming

Where are we meeting at? -
My entire numpad is mapped out for MM pet controls, lol. Edit: Also, I try to play my MM's as actively as possible. I do sometimes take the personal attacks, and secondaries like /ElecAff are very busy with quite a few buttons to mash nearly as soon as they're off CD.

If I can get my ass up that early (I'm west coast), I will join as well. -
This was a beautifully written and thought-provoking post. I definitely fall somewhere in the middle of the two types of "camps" you discuss in the first half. Not every character I create is intended to be roleplayed; some are just fun fantasies, but this post gives me lots of juicy things to think about. Some characters have sort of a general concept/idea and get created because I got inspired by one thing or another, but they may not really end up with any sort of story. Other characters get a proper bio, and are a bit more thought out in who they are and what their purpose in the world of CoH/V is. Though I have not participated in much roleplay yet in game or on the forums here since I have gotten really nervous/shy about my ability to RP, lol. Your second half of the post really got me. I used to want to make almost every character a magic origin character when I played this game as a teen. As you point out, it's a very easy way to write off a lot of little details about the character and what they can do. And as I have gotten older, I have definitely come to find that a quite boring strategy and not interesting to play or read about. I've actually found tech/science origins to be quite fun for concepts lately; why does my character have the ability to manipulate gravitational forces? Well, this nifty suit/gadget/etc. was carefully developed to allow them to do this (thus giving them a weakness as well that if the suit, gadget, etc. gets damaged, they are then powerless). Thank you for such a beautifully written post and for all of the points to think about. Idk about others, but for me who has been sort of on the fringe of the RP community here (by choice because of my own fear/nerves), this will help guide how I think about the characters I have who I would want to RP with. I love my dragons, creatures, aliens, vampires, etc., but even before this, I have never wanted to portray them in a way that is "god-mode," but again, that comes from growing. I had a borderline Mary Sue character in my beginning RP days and yeah, it's not fun. And as much as I have learned since then, I know there is always still more I can learn. 🙂

I forgot to get a shot of her with the level showing, but I got Teyana to 30 tonight; I will try to edit in a shot of her with the level tomorrow. Staff/Nin is a really fun combo and /Ninjitsu has such a neat toolkit to it that I'd be curious to try other primaries with it. -
Your Opinion on Sets and ATs that Over or Underperform
TygerDarkstorm replied to TheZag's topic in General Discussion
Tornado needs to do this, and then propel whatever went up into another enemy lol -
I don't think there is, that was why I chose both characters, lol. I wasn't sure if Nature was earthy, but I was like, eh, I'm not sure it counts. 🤣 Human Mosquito is fine with me to go; I'll have to get her a water themed costume going. ^_^ And thank y'all for the welcome. 🙂

I feel you on that. I'm not fond of the boots for the set either, and I also rarely used the Tucked In option as I'm not fond of most of the looks myself, lol. -

Elemental Order has a proper bottom and boots that go with it. The pants can be found under Tucked In -> Pants -> Elemental Order. And the boots are under the boots section, listed as Elemental Order and Elemental Order w/ Shield -
Same, I haven't played her yet, but I went Elec/Nin to live out my Sith fantasy lol

Okay thank you; it is how I was reading it then. For some reason I thought that it worked differently, like more like Bio armor's stances for some reason (where you're always getting a passive buff). I've only ever briefly played staff on a stalker where, like you said, everything is just Body; I've never had to think much about the others and how it all works. Thank you for explaining it. -
This here. Andreah and Bleu expressed their opinions so much better than I was able to. And even your reply to me was confusing and contradictory. You come across as trying to control and define what and how other players are allowed to express their imagination and creativity in CoH.

Currently at 29. I still don't really know what the staff forms do, lol, but staff/nin is a pretty solid combo that's quite fun to play if you don't mind the animations (I love them). I've been pleasantly surprised what this character has been capable of in my noob-like hands. Running a Posi 2 was lots of fun. She's probably like the highest level scrapper I have, lol, and I look forward to playing her more and learning how to build this character combo. -
*crawls out of the woodwork* If it will count for earth, I would like to bring Environmentabot - Bots/Nature MM If not, then I will bring Human Mosquito - Water/Sonic Corruptor

Why do you assume that all of us who choose to create and RP these types of creatures do so with the intent to be even more powerful than supers already are? I'm sure there are some out there, but I feel like they would be in the minority because it can be kind of boring to RP with a Mary Sue type character. Why do you assume my dragons and aliens are "god mode" or that they wouldn't be interested in studying humans and finding fascination in them? Including developing an affection for them that might even include helping them with mundane tasks? Or maybe my dragon is a klepto interested in re-stealing the purses to get the shinies in them, or returns the purse with the expectation of being rewarded with a shiny. I'm a boring old human in real life; City of Heroes has an amazing character creator, why wouldn't I take advantage of that to live out some of my fantasies?

Ninja/Dark is a classic and good combo. 🙂
-
Ninjas are great for high single target damage if you can keep them alive long enough. Ninja/Cold has been interesting, though I've gotten kind of stuck with it in the 20's. I'm debating about trying out Ninja/Nature though and wondering if there might be any synergy there.

Same; my play time is limited as is too, so I'm still stuck at level 15 -
/shrug The themes are what makes it fun for us, but yes, to each their own. I rarely have any high level characters or the time needed for the higher level stuff so those are ones I often skip out on myself. I was just pointing out that low level runs do come through the Theme Team events, it just depends on what they've already done, what the WST's are, and what the leader feels might fit a certain theme best. For those that do want to join them, they're a lot of fun. The group is very relaxed and chill; we generally aren't in a rush and like to do kill alls, chat and banter, stick together as a group, etc.

Mine's sitting in the 20's I think, but Mercs/Traps is a pretty fun combo. Traps has such a unique playstyle that it's probably more of a solo character. /Dark seems to pair well with everything, so I imagine it would be effective with Mercs too; especially since you can park em somewhere and sit among them using Twilight Grasp to keep their health topped up.
-
The themed ones rotate based on the WST's, so Posi does pop up for a low level option. We have also been known to have some weeks where we just do DFB for that weekend.
-
IMO, it can pair with all of the MM primaries, lol. Bots/EA is low damage, but extremely tanky like Demons/EA. EA is one of my favorite support sets and for MM's, I have a Thugs/EA, Beasts/EA, Mercs/EA, Necro/EA. I've been away from the game for months now, so I don't really have any opinions on which primary it pairs best with, but I've enjoyed it on everything I have tried so far. Granted, the Mercs/EA is still a baby sitting in Praetoria.

I might have to do the same thing and retreat Teyana back to Everlasting; I've been trying to solo her over on Indom, but with limited playing time and boredom kicking in, she's only at level 15. Though Staff/Nin is a fun combo to play on a scrapper, even if I'm not entirely sure what the different forms are supposed to do (if anything) outside of the effects they add to the couple of listed attacks; the end game descriptions are a bit vague. -
The existing tags we have do already alter the way character names appear in game. People flagged for roleplaying typically have dark pinkish looking names; those flagged for helper tend to be yellow, and those flagged for needing help are like a bright pinkish-purple name. So if this were implemented, I'd imagine the same thing would happen where it would label the flag above their head and color their character name.

70 - Scrapper 80 - Staff 55 - Ninjitsu Not the most damaging scrapper ever, but that could be fun and thematic. For fun, let's see what else turns up. 28 - Corruptor 60 - Ice Blast 81 - Thermal Radiation Eh, not terrible. Let's go one more time. 28 - Corruptor (oh... okay then... xD) 82 - Seismic Blast 49 - Pain Domination Huh, that could be pretty neat too, though they don't totally fit thematically. As someone who plays a lot of ranged characters, I think I will give the scrapper a shot. And here she is: Teyana, tiny elvish staff/nin scrapper who has a mutilated right eye that she tries her best to hide. Has "sulky teenager" vibes and has taken up being a hero as a means of trying to prove herself.
