Positive Gamer No Longer Playing CoH, Very Horrible Story
Redletter replied to Solarverse's topic in General Discussion
Makes sense then. Like I said, he did seem really enthused just about the game in general, which is like, the same energy I generally get from people who I talk to who have ALSO had deep connections to the game. But Ive grown up in the age of streamers, so like, I have to temper all of my assessments OF a streamer based on a "best case scenario, worst case scenario" view. From a glance through the thread, it seems more like he did one obnoxious thing, people got mad about it, then his SG got politcal and he tried to curtail that and then people from within his own circle opted to be degens about that. And this raid seems to a standout inciting incident for everything. It's entirely possible this guy totally jacked a hamiraid from a group that was already there. It's possible that group told on him, and mods told him he couldnt stream anymore, and he took that personally and tried to paint the people doing everything they were supposed to as the villains. It's possible a bunch of nerds were mad about a streamer bringing an enmormous group to a hamidon raid that hyperlagged the zone, and so even though he didnt actually STEAL anything from them, they didnt want to play in the lag and left, then complained about bad streamer man 'stealing' their run. Im not sure the limit on players in hami's zone, but i do know 50 is the limit in RWZ. He claims to have two full leagues and then some taking on Hamidon, so either his math is off or Hami's house can house a lot of players. If the case is the latter, then you can literally just follow along and take part in the raid for credit - I've done that more than once in a late-night Hami. I won't speculate further, but from THIS isolated incident, he seems like a stream nerd who really likes a video game. Makes sense he'd want to stream it, makes sense why he'd be told he cant, makes sense he'd go somewhere he could. What doesnt make sense, is everyone losing their jimmies over what amounts to a he said, she said argument from... at least 3 years ago, now? If he got harassed, that's plainly against the rules to which we all agree to adhere to and "he took my hami raid from me 😠" or "he told me I couldnt kick people with opinions different from mine from our Super Group 😠 " is not a valid excuse to break those rules. If he was a dick but technically didnt break any rules, it seems the powers that be took that into account when they banned streaming and his protests to the contrary going unheeded would have led to an exodus regardless. Perhaps, most importantly though, he's gone now. So... what's even the point? -

I love long form videos, so 3 hours isnt too hard. Especially if you watch at like, 1.5. The Hami raid is only around half the video, a little more or less when you take into account the pre-raid stuff and the travel and the organizing and things. He swaps to Mothership later. Seemingly, he and his SG formed several leagues to run Hami. He's on excelsior in this stream, so i dont know where everlasting comes in as mentioned earlier in this thread? His stream is tagged as heroes reborn, not homecoming so I have no idea if there's a difference but there's that too, but regardless, for this stream he's not on the Everlasting server. Streamer isnt the first of his league to arrive, and he's teleported to the safety rock. Everything looks pretty kosher to me? Like, that looks like typical Hami stuff. He IS having multiple leagues, I don't know what the etiquette is on that? I know Mothership Raid does that often enough just to roll as many people as they can into the event and I assume he's doing the same. My thing here is, I have NO idea who's league(s) are who's. If he is crashing another Hami raid, I can't tell. His streamer set up has him over his chat box, so I cant see if there's people protesting in channels. His group doesnt hit the monster wall, which IS strange? At least from MY understanding of the raid? But that's like, Im not sure that's a MANDATORY thing for the raid more than it is the most EFFICIENT thing. I mean, to my total baby brain everything looks fine. The ONLY red flags for me are: - People are entering the zone and typing in broadcast for invite, but he's also filled up two leagues and is trying to organize the creation of third mid-hami. So that could be people just confused on who they need to get invites from, or they could be people who came for a totally different group's hami raid. - He mentions there's an influx of people coming into the hive at one point? Again, it's like, he's a streamer with a presumably sizable super group, it is honestly as easy to say these are people coming for a different group's hami raid as it is to say theyre people from the SG, Stream, or just randoms who have heard there was a hami raid going on and showed up. They continue to come and go during the whole raid, regardless. - A member of his chat mentions they HAVE messed up a "serious costume contest". There's no elaboration or recognition of this, so I dont know if it's because there were mad men holding a costume contest IN THE HIVE, or if it's because Big Streamer and his Big Raid inadvertantly stole would-be contestants. I can't see WHY you'd hold a costume contest in Hami's house, I know for a FACT he doesnt appreciate clothing of ANY kind... If this video is supposed to be a smoking gun, it looks more like a cap gun to me? As an aside, this guy either REALLY loves City of Heroes and the prospect of the community behind it, or he's really hamming it up for the stream. I like his Sands of Mu bit, that's got a lot of potential, but like, kinda boring streamer for me. AS A DISCLAIMER I dont really know this guy, or what drama this is about, or whatever? It seems like all parties involved so far seem just really fucking stupid to me? But I will say that it's a video game. It is just a video game. Harassment is not only stupid, but an ugly waste of time. Also bigly against the rules. And technically illegal. But mostly stupid. Dont bother with it, over what is just a game. -
Theres so many cool shuriken moves but theyre spread out across all the ats and im just really salty they havent been used to make a "Ninja Tools" or something ranged damage set. Dont mind me, Im just SEETHING that Im the only person who just wants to take mall ninja aesthetic to it's ULTIMATE FORM

I dont know when Everlasting TFs formed, but they announce for hami raids literally every day in LFG and have their own chat channel with the MoD being the daily schedule. So, if Everlasting TFs was up and about, the Hami raid would have been not only announced, but due to Everlasting TFs' schedule, these things would have been known about well in advance since Everlasting TFs does Hamiraids at 9pm, 11pm, and midnight (EST) literally EVERY DAY. It'd be hard NOT to know about it. -
Ok, but what if I get ten to twenty tells? You can easily pull that when you ad for weeklies, AE farms, and other in-demand content. Well, yeah. LFG is a tab you have open if you are infact, LFG. I dont STOP LFG just because I asked to join a G, because sometimes Gs full up quick and I need to keep LFG. It is, afterall, as easy as keeping it's tab open. You dont even need to navigate OFF the LFG tab to send a tell to someone LFG in LFG! It truly is a miracle of modern (circa: 2006) technology. Ok but how do you know? Because putting an ad in the paper requires you to pay the paper. Why are you comparing a totally free broadcast channel to an ad service requiring compensation? No, it's more like telling everyone who is, was, or who could be interested in joining your group that the group is full. Oh so you DO know you can get a parade of pms! And... you feel each should get an individual response... Instead of just telling them all at once, through the public channel that they're actively in... You mean like telling them all in LFG that you're full? You mean like telling them all in LFG that you're full? It's my opinion you really want people to respond to your tells personally, instead of just reading LFG, and that this is a really lukewarm hot take. Or your trolling. Which is equally as likely and twice as funny. And you've been the best comedian I've seen in a while, thank you for the laugh.

See, while I agree it's important to color your character's power level appropriately, I don't think, in roleplay, it is at all required, or even neccesarily helpful to avoid playing to the role youve envisioned. City of Heroes, as a setting, lends itself very well to all manner of hero tropes. But what your suggesting is to "play your level", not "play your character". Not everyone has an interest in playing "Peter Parker's First Day Out" literally EVERY time they make a new character. It'd be like roleplaying your incarnate levels, or your veteran levels. Does this mean Veracor is THE most powerful being in the universe? They've got the biggest level, so, by this logic, the answer is yes. I think it's far more constructive to consider what, where, why and how your character, regardless of their mechanical benefits or personal lore, is doing what theyre doing. Ok, so you ARE Superman. You're functionally unstoppable. Nigh-unkillable. WHAT are you doing in the sewers of Paragon cleaning out hydras, Mr. Impossible? WHERE have you been all this time? WHY are you running from some basic zombies? HOW come you're only punching these guys when you could be using your laser beam eyes? All of these questions produce more opportunities to RP and flesh a character out. Again, while the message starts real strong here, RP, like improv, and every great interaction on earth, only works when you "yes and". You then go off and start to dissuade people from playing characters with nebulous airs. I think this is outright hypocritical to what you JUST said! Saying "dont play Mr.Mystery because it's hard to connect with" and "Build Bridges, not walls" inherently builds a wall. There are HUNDREDS of super spies, clandestine agents, amnesiacs, secret mystics and more who are, by the nature of their character, unwilling or unable to disclose much about themselves personally. That's ABSOLUTELY FINE. The CORE here is to simply not NEGATE the roleplay. EG: Agent 48: Looks like another messy job, tonight... Big Chipper: Messy job? Is this normal for you, baldy? Agent 48: You could say that... Big Chipper: I could also say youre bald! Agent 48: You could at that, yes. Big Chipper: Why are you so bald? Agent 48: I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Big Chipper: YOU KILL PEOPLE?! Agent 48: ... No. That was just a joke... Big Chipper: Oh good! So... do ya got any more? Agent 48: ... Knock Knock. It's not hard to roleplay a character reluctant to talk about themselves. It's a common tactic OF this character type to deflect, and find OTHERS topics to engage in. Atton Rand, Batman, Dr. House, Black Widow... ALL characters with things to hide, all known for not enjoying talking about themselves, and all are incredibly engaging in conversation (scene wise, not necessarily in REAL conversation) without needing to volunteer ANYTHING significant about themselves, NOR do they have to wait till somebody asks about them to engage in dialog. Great advice. The game world is the most persistent character in this ENTIRE game and ignoring it completely is a big mistake. I play a mercenary mastermind who, upon the (inevitable) death of a pet, curses how expensive cloning is and then, when the pet respawns, chides them for dying and insists the cost will come out of his pay. She comments on other military outfits, and prospective clients (just as an example). As an example, when doing Positron, you're met face to face with a shadow version of yourself! R E A C T T O T H A T! Again, GREAT advice. It's a dirty cheat code, but if you EVER want to make a character more 'fun', give them a verbal tick. My character BIG GATOR speaks in the third person, and exclusively in capslock, Ms. Astonishing calls everyone 'darling', these are fun and easy cheat codes to make a character simply MORE engaging to both write and to play with. I find it honestly MUCH easier to 'pull' people into roleplaying with BIG GATOR, because having a giant gangster gator in a tux, yelling, is just something people want to be a part of. (As a side note, i've played with half of those characters youve mentioned) This is specifically good for gimmick characters? But the general suggestion here of giving your character something they can TALK about is always good. Maybe they're a fan of a particularly greasy burger joint in king's row and they HATE they love it, maybe they really really have a thing for Arachnos Tarantula Mistresses specifically? OR now that we have female arachnos banes, MAYBE you try to hit on them when they show up? Maybe you just cant resist to constantly, persisitently, and perpetually talk about how much you HATE Oranbega even when doing things totally unrelated to oranbega. As we mentioned, it's all about "yes and" really, and this ties right back into that. Dialog can flow pretty naturally, as long as you know your character. Motivations are REALLY important and understanding what your characters are naturally helps rp flow.

So i meade both on the beta server to test how they play toward the end of their lives, and then on real servers to see what leveling is like without all the fun IOs. As i suspected, at the END of their lives, MA and StJ play roughly the same, but Stj hits harder and has native aoe options while MA has eeeeeever so slightly faster recharge and cheaper costs. With both using SR as the secondary, they could go into dark astoria and solo without much difficulty (though, this would be a character with probably well over 20bil inf spent on them if i were to try and make it outside the freebie zone). During leveling though was a totally different story. In the start, theyre virtually identical. StJ feels nicer since it's animations are dope, and the knockdown on heavy blow, while rare, can and WILL save your ass when you least expect it. Especially since I slotted it with the P2W chance for knockdown. It's generally cheaper early powers really help keep you swinging before needing to chew a blue - which means you can use those blues youd be chewing on reds, or greens, or purples. MA on the other hand has sick kicks that do a bit more damage, which is really nice since StJ's big problem for early levels is that'd id hit a guy with that elbow, and he'd still be up for a couple of brawls - even from stealth sometimes the elbow doesnt kill. MA on the other foot could kick a thug in the teeth, then i hit him with brawl and he's out, and if its a crit that foot will take his jaw off in one. Also, I know it'd minor, but youll miss more elbows than you do kicks, and theres times where i missed a thug three or four times in a row with stj, where i hadnt with MA. I know it's a dice roll, but that miniscule added accuracy, combined with the defense debuff, helps make sure in prolonged fights that you keep landing your hits. Once you get the Assassin's Strike though, things take a HUGE change though because of how StJ's assassin's strike works. THAT thing is literally built different. Because you can hit AssStrike, then hit your cross to lay out every idiot in a cone, so you REALLY get some nice crowd control in the form of the stun and knockdown chance. At this point I had moved the p2w enhancement over to cross specifically to try and get at least SOME kind of CC out of it, which tended to compliment the occaisonal fear AssStrike would give me. Meanwhile MA has no such luck. MA's lack of AoE doesnt bug me as much as it seems to bother other people. Like, im a stalker, if I wanted to AoE i'd be a tanker, ya know? AoE is a nice side benefit of some of these sets, but i dont care if a set has it or not. However, it DOES mean that StJ didnt really need to do the "stalker shuffle" (wherein I find the biggest good, turn his skull into jelly, then run away until im told im hidden again) as often as MA did. With MA i started seeking groups way more often, and it led to fun moments where i'd say "hey team, can I run ahead and assassin's strike the boss of the area and see if I kill him? I will almost absolutely certainly die doing this, and there's no guarentee ill kill him, but I wanna see if Im that powerful yet." and MOST people would let me do that once or twice a TF! MA really excelled at that, and in the right groups MA was GREAT! Like, in groups where people were ACTIVELY taking the agro off me, it meant I could kick goons in the temple, and get more bang for my dwindling endurance than the aoe's stj was offering me. Things change again once you get to 18-20 . MA pulls ahead here because cobra strike is pretty bonkers. Spinning Strike, while stupidly cool, just cant compete, at least for me. The cooldown is SO long and it's such a SMALL aoe. 10 targets total is nice, but as I said before, stj was preforming well solo, so me being THAT surounded made for a bad situation for me. THIS was when i started seeking more teams, because Spinning Strike became really welcome on teams. Once again, having a person who would make themselves the target of the wrath of goons freed me up to gamble with StJ's various CC effects, which in turn help them by keeping them safer AND dealing big chunks of damage. MEanwhile, MA could now solo pretty well since dropping Cobra strike to a lower CD basically meant it replaced Crippling Axe Kick in my rotation and that stun popped off far more often than I thought it would. This REALLY helped keep me safe by just taking an enemy out of the fight, and since the stun lasts long enough for the kick to come back up I could basically spread it around. Again, the endurance drain sucks, but it's not NEARLY as bad as StJ which is now guzzling nearly half my bar. It was at this point I resepec'd, and for the first time the two builds took divergent paths. StJ dropped super speed entirely (for now) and picked up brawling (replaced super speed and hasten, with boxing and tough) while MA stayed on it's path. Hasten wouldnt be on the final 50 build, but for now it was a nice ability to have when i just REALLY needed more of my powers. 36 is where theyre both at right now, and theyve both just respec'd. The reason for this is because MA got Crane Kick which is just a mildly more expensive cobra strike, but there's enough slots now to put crippling axe kick back into the rotation. Slotted MOST of these out with endurance reduction, with the only exception being Eagles Claw, which ive just been stacking damage onto. It isnt terribly expensive for the damage it deals, and 16secs isnt too long to wait, since all my other attacks are doing reasonable damage. Meanwhile. StJ now has !!CRUSHING UPPERCUT!! Which immediately got 6 slotted, even though I have nothing to put there. Because, theres FEW things in this game cooler than hitting an stj AssStrike then, immediately going into a crushing uppercut. Those TWO powers make up 70% of my attacks in a fight. On occaison ill throw out a shin breaker to lower some idiot's defense just long enough for assassin's strike to come back up then I slug that selfsame idiot in the jaw, which leaves me with 3 combo in the meter for a crushing uppercut that'll express mail a goon's ass to mars. Ultimately, martial arts has been really CONSISTENT. Like, from start to finish, playing the game like a game, MA kicks a lot of ass. It kinda requires you to remember to PLAY your stalker AS a stalker. Sometimes, I really JUST needed to run my ass away, wait till im hidden, then run back to hop into the fight again. MEanwhile, StJ NEVER required me to game it out like that. Even when soloing got rough, the stj would naaaaaaarrowly edge through, especially once I ditched Super Speed entirely in favor of Fighting. Thanks to all of you ninjas, I really appreciate the learning experience! But really it just goes to StJ. Style beats consistency literally EVERY time.

Contest: Make Sonic Resonance Relevant!
Redletter replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
My vazilok themed MM is a Zombies/Sonic MM and theyre pretty fun. Having melee centric pets REALLY helps a lot of Sonic's powers find a use, since the survival of your minions, and yourself, is entirely contingent on your ability to keep your monsters (un)alive and it helps the zombies middling damage suffice for solo play. Normally I'd say Robots is a better choice here, but honestly? The fact the zombies powerset gets MORE debuffs in the form of -accuracy is more important than the miserable beam rifle powers robots steals. I dont have a build for you, since the toon is only 38, but she's a lot of fun. My ONLY complaint is that it's a lot of micro for one character, and I hate micro. But I mean, if you like, REALLY need me to like, SELL you on sonic... Ok... uhm... ahem... -RES IS ALWAYS GOOD -

So, one of the things im noticing is youre using the ABSOLUTE BLACK in the color palletes. My problem with that is that shade of black in particular tends to eliminate any texture the article of clothing has. Bumping it up just one or two shades, or going on down to darker blues and purples also tends to help. Just doing that does a LOT to make an outfit pop. Likewise, it may be worthwhile to seperate her color pallete in your mind based on what the material is supposed to be. Like, the talon gauntlets have a metal vambrace and what seems to be leather gloves. So, then maybe her top shouldnt be the cloth based cybertech. Matching colors by material tends to help me out a lot. Oh! Well then, I think you DEFINITELY need to take a closer look at the character designs for Mortal Kombat in general. MK thrives on metal, leather, cloth, bone, and for the ladies, skin. It's days like this where I wish the Witch set let me color the lace and the metal seperately. I took the idea of "ninja with rock powers" and took to the Outworld tendencies for brass and monster bits. Like, a gorgon who's a ninja? I was tempted to go the route of say, Kitana, which would have been FAR closer to your original design, but this kinda just went off the rails and ultimately i decided the mortal combat aesthetic was more important to hold to. If this isnt your thing, I'd recomend definitely finding a primary color for her that stands out MOST. The ninjas of MK, unilaterally, seperate themselves visually by color and the girls with ninja-esque designs ESPECIALLY love color. Take a dip into the robes/sleeveless robes category! There's a TON of good looking tops there that pair well with armor, if thats what your trying to pair (cloth+armor bits) mkgirlthing.costume

Got Metroid: Dread for Xmas! Figured I'd celebrate with an attempt at Varia Suit Samus. No helmet, because all my attempts to recreate the helmet Sammy's got have been met with very awkward results mostly in part to all the options to simulate helmets tend to mold to the general shape of the head, making helmets that have wide dome-like shapes (Juggeraunt, Hulkbuster, Samus) difficult. The first image uses Vanguard chest, while this uses Clockwork. While the slimmer waist works, the way that Clockwork takes color isnt as complimentary as id like. In both cases I used Enforcer on the right arm to simulate her blaster. But you could also use the big tech gauntlet, though I really dont like this look as it's very bulbus, which works on a lot of designs, just not this one. As an experiment, I also tried cosmic corsair's hook hand nub. It got a giggle out of me. Honestly, theres a LOT of options I didnt use that could totally work as well. Especially if you're like me and you're a total simp for GLOWY BITS
