To extrapolate on my previous reply... Here's what I think the OP ought to be concerned with: If you choose to play a dark-skinned character, do you receive abuse from the player base? There is a genuine issue to be dealt with (Assuming it exists. I've only played one person of color in the game- a Stj/WP scrapper named Clash Compton. For the record, I never received any racist comments or treatment from anyone on the server while playing him. I did abandon the character, after I became unhappy with my build, though). Racism (both overt, malevolent racism and the more subtle, institutional kind) is real- in real life and in online games- and is a problem that human beings must acknowledge, grapple with, and learn to address, in order to cure that sickness in our society. But suggesting randomized skin-tones for PC's as a means of addressing this is: 1) Not a viable way to address the problem. 2) Actively minimalizes a very serious issue by suggesting a Pollyanna solution. Bravo to the OP for caring about a very serious problem, but this suggestion is wrong-headed and still get's a hard NO from me.

I'm highly liberal, but there is such a thing as going too far. For me, this suggestion is it. Just my opinion. Everyone is welcome to have a different one, of course.

Right on. I just started playing an electric/energy stalker, so it's something I'll need to know. Thanks for the link. 🙂👍

Red side..no wonder the place is mostly empty.
Cancrusher replied to Ukase's topic in General Discussion
I always assumed the outdoor gloom was due to smog/air pollution, mostly via the mining/smelting operations on Sharkhead Isle- although there are plenty of grimy-looking factories all over the Rogue Isles. Arachnos bases are very dark, but I just assumed that was because they all wear those helmets (which, one would assume, are equipped with thermal and/or low light optics). No disadvantage for the Arachnos forces, but a pain in the ass for anyone trying to infiltrate their bases. -
Hm... alrighty. No idea then. 🤷♂️

I would suspect you have a toggle going that either creates a taunt effect or damages nearby foes. This would snap them out of the placate (I think). Or maybe you're just fighting some things that have resistance to placate? Just a couple of theories.

Cancrusher replied to Ukase's topic in General Discussion
The only gripe I have with red-side is trying to maneuver in Grandville. Don't misunderstand me: I LOVE the LOOK of Grandville. All of the Rogue Isles has the proper, grimy, gritty look of I would expect from a nation ruled by an arch-villain. I also enjoy the story arcs and challenging enemies you interact with (Arachnoids are quite nasty in gangs!). Grandville can be quite challenging if you don't have a fly power, though. Even with a fly power, it can be a bit tedious. Still, all-in-all, worth it for the trouble. 👍 -
No, in fact, it's been brought up before. I believe there is an extensive thread about it somewhere on the forums.

After I posted my earlier reply, I came across an article in my newsfeed that explained that bit. I wasn't familiar with those comics, so it was a surprise to me, but a cool one! I'll have to try to get my hands on that comic run (maybe wait until BoBF runs its course, so I don't have any spoilers).

It's subjective. I'm sure there's a wide range of opinion. I think the fire swords look really lame and the ice swords look even worse. Botis the demon has a cool looking ice scimitar, though. I wish the ice swords looked more like that.

Great second episode. Much improved from the first. That big Wook was terrifying. Can't wait to see more of him. 😁

A Question Regarding Power Controls and Disabilities
Cancrusher replied to EyeLuvBooks's topic in General Discussion
@Snarky That's the craziest looking controller that I've ever seen, man. 😁 -
I would really like team leaders to state in LFG, something like "All full, thanks!" Or similar, when a team fills. That way I don't spam you with annoying invite requests. You don't need to send me a tell, personally. That's a step too far and I certainly DO NOT expect you to do it. I have LFG channel open. I can glance at it periodically to see if you've filled, before and after I respond to an invite. JMO. YMMV, etc.

IMO, the problem with RPing powerful characters in CoH isn't necessarily bad roleplay. The problem is that players come to CoH hoping to model the kind of characters and fictional reality in the comic book genre. In comic books, heroes and villains largely begin their careers with amazing skills and powers and are able to compete with or be a threat to other characters with amazing skills and powers. In other words, they want to play comic book characters in a comic book game, not D&D style zero-to-hero weaklings (replace killing rats in the cellar for the inkeeper with clearing out gangs from the streets- it's the same trope, you see) that slowly gain power over time by grinding levels. CoH, as great as it is, chose the traditional MMO model of play (taken from tabletop rpgs) as its baseline and this (IMO, I mean) is a bad fit for the comic book genre. How it should actually work is just like it works in the comics: You've got a team of badasses like the the Avengers and/or Justice League. They constantly face and overcome threats that are equally exciting and badass. Yes, you also have street level heroes and villains in comics. If you want to play one of these, you should of course have the option to do so, but even a street level hero like batman is enough of a badass to run with the Justice League (and smart enough to go toe-to-toe with near god-like heroes like superman) and the Punisher has fought side by side with the Defenders, The Outlaw Avengers, and the Thunderbolts. I think this is one reason so many players (including myself) prefer to power level instead of "enjoy the journey", as some people put it. If they wanted to "enjoy the journey", they would play D&D or World of Warcraft, or something that models that kind of fantasy rpg setting reality. But they don't- they want to do what comic book writers and artists do when they create a new super hero: imagine a badass, super-powered being, suddenly gifted (or born) with powerful abilities, doing astonishing, superhuman things. Anyways, that's just my opinion. I understand other people have a different feeling about it.

I enjoyed it. Having said that, the first episode of Mando was much superior. The backstory of explaining how Fett escaped the Sarlacc and such was necessary plot exposition, but might have been better served by making it more brief and to the point, perhaps just with the scene of Fett escaping the Sarlacc and then having the character himself paraphrase the rest, like he was relating the tale to Fennec or something similar. Then move on with the story in present day. Apart from that, I think it was quite good and I have high hopes it will pick up and improve sharply in the next couple of episodes. We shall see.

Heh, yeah, Siege can be a real PIA for tanks. I can tank him no problem, it's doing enough damage to take him down that's the issue. We just stand there and beat on each other for a couple hours, with nobody going down for the count. I finally just have to say, "Look man, let's call it a draw. We both got stuff to do." 😂

Can We PLEASE Dispense With the Dancing Warwolves?
Cancrusher replied to EyeLuvBooks's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
You don't have to hold them. Just lay down an ice patch and watch them fall down, over and over again.😄 I don't object to dancing warwolves, but I can't figure out what the heck these guys are doing with the hammers... 🤔 -
Immortalizing Heraclea in Cimerora
Cancrusher replied to ShardWarrior's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Barely knew the guy, but his amazon-motif characters and bases seemed legendary to me. He clearly had a love for greek/roman styled game play, and I certainly read and enjoyed many of his posts. I'm happy to give my upvote to this suggestion. 👍 -
Ice armor is a great set. Just make sure you pick the minimal effects option, otherwise you end up with goofiness like this:
-
The OP is suggesting a feature like Bio-Armor's toggle for offense/defense/efficiency and/or dual pistols ammo swap ability for fire/acid/cold, but just more broad and expansive with regard to the choices. You would still pick your attack power set, as normal, but there would be a toggle ability to add another modifier to the attack (change dmg type, give -def, slow enemy recharge, whatever). You could switch this out by hitting a different toggle. I don't know how I feel about it. I think it might be a little too ambitious/complex. The AT needs a tweak, but I feel this is a step too far. Start out with small modifications. If it's not enough, scale it up, a bit at a time. No need to reinvent the wheel here, IMO. Just one guy's opinion.

Many of the TFs and SFs need Updating. Can we do this?
Cancrusher replied to EyeLuvBooks's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yeah, Numina is painful when you hit that "Run around the city and cull mobs" part. At any rate, if it's viable, I fully support the OP's suggestion. 👍 -
Require Two Level 50 Characters to Get XP in AE
Cancrusher replied to Apparition's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
There's no context behind the suggestion. Why are you asking for it? What does it bring to the game experience for the player base? I would almost certainly vote no to this suggestion, but I'd have to have more information to be sure about that.
