I like this, but I would like to know if the powers that be are now going to generic you. And if so, why? And if not, why not?

Yomo's New and Improved Bang-Up Salmagundi Spectacular!!!
Yomo Kimyata replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
You'd be surprised. This giveaway tends to be in spurts when people see it. I bumped the amount not because people needed more, but because I want to get rid of it! -
EDIT: (29 February 2024). The "official" giveaway is over, but I will continue to monitor my in-game emails and I will continue to give inf away. The main difference now is that I will do it if and when I'm able to get to it, and that is going to be significantly slower than it has happened in the past, or even at all.) EDIT: (22 January 2024). I am officially giving notice that this giveaway as it stands will cease February 29, 2024. Details in a later post on this thread. I have decided to give away a portion of my inf for my own inscrutable reasons. Here's how it works: 1. You send me an in-game email to @Yomo. 2. I send you an in-game email with 100mm inf. EDIT: Here is how you send an in-game email. If your Chat window is not open, press "C" to open it. Across the top you will see captions that start with "Team", "League", etc. Click on the caption that says "Email". The window that now opens has two captions "Inbox" and "Character Items". Click on Inbox and hit the New button. For To: input "@Yomo" with no quotation marks. Write something, anything, in the subject line and in the main text box. Hit send. EDIT: Please do not send an in-game email to @Yomo Kimyata. There is a difference between forum handles and in-game handles! I do also have an account with that email, but I rarely log onto it. FAQ: Q: Whut? A: Yup. Q: Why? A: My own inscrutable reasons. Q: Can I have more? A: Nope, and only one request per global name. Q: Can I have less? A: Nope, I will not give you one sou less than 100mm. Q: What if I have more than one account? A: Do as you will. Make a hundred accounts! Only one gift per global. Q: How long will this last? A: Until: 1. I run out of disposable inf; 2. I get really bored with it; 3. Someone seriously griefs me and I stop my giveaway in outrage. I highly doubt it's going to be the first one. I'd guess not any time soon(tm), so no rush. [EDIT: This is "officially" over, but will continue in an unofficial manner for as long as I will continue to play. However, that is infrequent, and may stop completely at any time without warning, so apologies if I have left the game completely.] Q: What's the turnaround? A: When I log in, I'll check my emails and respond. I'm usually on at some point most days. It will not be instant, but generally within 24-48 hours. EDIT: Call it a few days at this point. If you send more than one email, I'll only respond to one of them. I keep a database so I'll make sure you get only one gift. But I will get to you and if I cancel the giveaway I'll say so in this thread. [EDIT: The "unofficial" turnaround is now: "if and when I get to it." I'm sorry to not be able to be more specific.] Q: What if I send you a tell or a message on these boards? A: Please don't. I'm only going to send 100mm checks to those who send me an in-game email. I'd rather not get drowned in tells, and it certainly won't induce me to send you inf faster. [EDIT: at this point, I will either ignore the tell or message on these boards, or possibly send an owlbear to your home to devour you in your sleep. Apologies in advance. Only in-game email.] Q: Can I tell my friends? A: Absolutely. I'm only going to post this here on the boards, but if you want to tell your friends or SG or whoever is in Local chat, go right ahead. [EDIT: As long as they read this thread and understand my conditions, we are still groovy.] Q: What if I already capitalized on a previous giveaway? A: We're cool. If you want inf, who am I to gateway? Come on in! Good luck and happy hunting!

Officially Unofficial Weekly Discussion #38: Speed Runs
Yomo Kimyata replied to SeraphimKensai's topic in General Discussion
I can't stand them. The reason to do a speed run is to get something over as quickly as possible. I'm presuming that is for the merit rewards, or whatever. I'm not exactly a stop and smell the roses kind of entity, but this tells me that people aren't doing it because they are enjoying the experience, but because they want some sort of pixelated reward as quickly as humanly possible. Most of the time, I don't care. Live and let live. If you want to play a game that you hate enough to zerg through it, um, good for you? But when it affects others then I get worked up. When was the last time you were able to get a slow Eden trial running? For 8 merits because it is gameable. I get it that "Blah blah blah I've done this thousands of times I want to do it as fast as possible" but I ask why in the world are you doing it thousands and one? Why do you enjoy doing it at all? The rewards are exceedingly simple to come by, so if you are suffering through a 45 minute ITF for a handful of merits and want to bitch about how your time is better spent, maybe you should spend it there? I'll send you inf. -
Nope. The benefit of common IOs is that they never get outleveled. You can always get a certain % out of them. The downside is that in order to upgrade to higher %, you need to go through the effort of upgrading. I'm assuming you are talking about common IOs as opposed to invention sets? If the latter, then we are going to get into a discussion about invention sets at a specific level v. attuned which level with you.

There's an outside of forum mirth?

Oh, my! I find OG to be marvelous and take it with reckless abandon whenever I can get mag 4+ disorient in total. The endurance cost is minimal, and I find the damage inflicted is significantly less than the damage mitigated. Reminder that the inherent accuracy of Lightning Clap is an abysmal 60%! That's going to make my mind up to put +5 Absolute Amazement there rather than in OG. I've been going there the last few months as well, and I would on an Elec/Dark scrapper as well. Generally I skip Toxic Dart and take Speed of Sound (20% Slow resist) and Experimental Injection (PM proc) as the pre-reqs. Adrenal Booster is bueno with three Membranes, and I like Corrosive Vial with two Lysosomes and two -res debuffs.
-
Absolutely not. Morally, there is no way I can support a movie with Richard Grieco in it.
-
So, either we were reported by a player who read this thread but did not see the characters in game, or devs read this thread and pre-emptively generic-ed the names before anyone had a chance to report them. Very interesting. How very interesting.
-
Oddly enough I do not have an Electric/Dark Scrapper (yet) but if I did, I would certainly 6-slot both Lightning Clap and Oppressive Gloom. Assuming both hit, you've got mag 4 stun and knockdown for everything in an eight foot radius, plus they get knocked down. That's over ten seconds of safety. You've got plenty of other spots to put FF +recharge. If I were making a tanker like this, I'd probably consider not even worrying about melee defense and just looking at ranged defense. My only question would be whether to slot Lightning Clap with 5 pieces of Stupefy (missing the proc) and SA proc (and Oppressive Gloom with 5 +5 pieces of Absolute Amazement (skipping Stun/End) and Triumphant insult proc), or with 5 +5 pieces of Absolute amazement (skipping Stun) and SA proc (and Oppressive Gloom with 5 pieces Stupefy and TI proc). Or skip the TI proc and put in immobilze proc from Razzle Dazzle to stop wanderers.

Nerp, it is not banned since you can still make characters named Barbie. Physicist Barbie, Sad Barbie, Nepotism Barbie, Conspiracy Barbie -- all available!
-
Well, that was a fast generic-ed name. My complaint is not that it was generic-ed. My complaint is that it was generic-ed when no one could have possibly seen it, so clearly someone reported me from this post in the forum.

Physicist Barbie was available on Excelsior. *Was*.
-
Huh, maybe you're not doing it right?!? 😉 Thank you for the kind words!

Electric powers and dark powers go very well together, regardless of AT. One reason is that electric generally has end mod powers that you generally may not slot for end mod. Dark powers generally have -to hit powers that you generally may not slot for - to hit. Musculature alpha covers both of these, which is nice. another is that dark powers can be stun friendly, and electric powers can give you a very useful % for stun proc that stacks up stun mag.
