I wouldn’t recommend doing this, as I think a lot of people who play this game religiously fail to understand: Outside of this game? RL happens. Their computer might break down, a family member may pass and they have to grieve for some time, marriages and then a child. That can lead to spending 1+ years away from the game. They’re not camping a name you want(Psst! Use a thesaurus, and make use of synonyms. Thats been my secret to names when stumped), they’re living a life and unfortunately can’t get to the game. They shouldn’t be punished because they have correct priorities/life circumstances come up.

That name release policy seems to be exactly what I was expecting. Should be interesting to see for those looking for names I suppose. I'm glad and a little weary of new beta testers arriving thanks to the the proverbial gates being lifted. On the one hand, more testers! Yay! Should lead to faster and damn near bug free releases. On the other hand, the potential for infighting between testers as beef from the forums spills over/grievances from whatever previous slight take root. But more importantly, the chances for leaks sky rockets. I figure this can be remedied via GM moderation, so I'll cycle back to yay more testers!

Okay so you’ve never played HM. Alright let me explain, so in HM you bring about 5 corrs. 3 cold doms a kin and nature for heals. These 5 corrs, really 4 of them(colds and kin) are SO STRONG in debuffs, they allow a carry slot in the hardest content in the game. Cold is so goddamn strong, it legit is damn near REQUIRED, and on meta teams legit required, for 4* runs. Same with Kin. This is corrs btw. Now imagine what that’d look like with fenders. Yeah this is the one time I’m going yeah no buffs to debuff numbers.

Thats why I’m looking at everything like uhhhh I don’t think you wanna do that chief. This would also require the entire game be made more challenging, but since HM already established mechanics are not a thing, it’ll end up being artifical number tweaks that lead to slog fights. I don’t think that’d go well with the playerbase
-
So here’s the problem with CoH. It’s so disgustingly easy dunning kruger takes full effect and people start spinning up charts to argue any and all kinds of outlandish ideas. Moving past that, if debuffs were made stronger, 8 supports would literally be the meta and the game made even easier. It would nullify HM even more than it already is. You forget to take into account how crippling debuffs for mobs is currently. Solo, on my supports, I'm able to face tank with things like Darkest Night and Rad infection. Hell, my cold dom is fairly sturdy thanks to sleet having mobs on their asses and recharge being floored with HL. Defenders do NOT need a debuff buff, which would reverberate to other classes, which then would require a rebalancing of the ENTIRE game.

And thats fine. Look I don’t make the rules I just understand them. Fire^3 is the objective, not subjective, best in offensive power for a blaster by its’ nature. Being that the blaster’s role is damage no matter how many pedantic metrics we add to try and alleviate the above point, it makes it the best blaster pick or “meta” pick. It may not be liked, it may not even be accepted, but to deny Fire^3 as the objective best damage combo for blaster is like saying the sun doesn’t exist. Sure you could say that but it’d be insane.

Totally understandable. I’m sure I run at different times as he’s never joined any of my teams that I lead. But I would share in your frustrations if this occurred to me

I think at this point it’s some kind of unhealthy obsession from OP bordering on a potential mental health issue. I don’t like to presume given there are a lot of people dealing with a litany of issues in this community at any given time, and I don’t want to make lite of their situations in the process of engaging with whatever is up with OP. But that’s just what this kind of reads as to me. I’ve seen similar in the past and honestly what may be best is to report and move on. I forsee this thread being derailed by OP into another GF debacle, and subsequently locked in a few days

Im not trying to sell you on anything. And if thats your takeaway that sucks that you feel that way. The discord from my experience has a lot more people with more up to date knowledge on things like build crafting in my experience. Some of the best build crafting practices that I use to this day came from joining that discord back in late 2019-2020. This, and being able to communicate with the devs in real time, alleviates a lot of misinformation that could linger on the forums for awhile. It is what it is.
-
Usually a more active GM and immediate mod team, least from what I experienced. Plus usually having a lot more experienced and knowledgeable players on the discord help quell lots, but definitely not all misinfo in real time.
-
Surprisingly, yes! I started off writing the game off and assuming it was going to be a flop, but I did some reassessing and honestly it’s looking pretty good. I don’t even mind the character models nearly as much as I did on first glance way back when they showed the gameplay preview. Combat was a big concern for me as it looks kinda floaty to me but seeing what you can do with skill interaction I’m at least willing to give it a chance. Plus you can make a death knight(at least mechanically. Warrior has the reaper subclass). I didn’t realize thats what I wanted until now. Hoping it all comes together to be a helluva game and delivers on all fronts

Thats what I consider the forums. A breeding ground for misinformation and drama. Its why I stick to the discord

It’s threads like these with people defending OP that remind me why I say this communit(the forums specifically) is easily as bad as WoW.* I already said the ONE instance where the OP could potentially not be as liable for the boot, and thats if they used it at all throughout the TF and no one said anything. If thats not the case, then there is no defendable position. This is open shut right wrong. *Actually worse. You expect selfish main character people in WoW with delusional senses of entitlement. There’s no pretense of a decent community there.

Honestly them running it this way has been the best thing to happen to me in awhile. Because of how disagreeable things have been these last 2 years I’ve been focusing a lot on other things and even looking into other entertainment like a Steam Deck. Never would of considered it if things weren’t going the way they are
-
Yes. Low HP with regen power means its leaving a lot to be desired, and the recharge is rough so its really a Wish.com version of Soul Absorption or whatever its called in Darkness Affinity.
-
I also used to use discord for pathfinder in college during COVID. It wasn’t great being honest but it was all we had before they let us back on campus.
-
Im getting there! 5 years in the makin’ 😀 I can understand why. Discord is kinda not the best at onboarding new users to its benefits and UI imo, and I’m on the younger side of the audience of CoH. Also, to continue, a lot of CoH players are older and set in the ways of old fashioned communication via forums, and prefer this over having to learn discord and keep up with all the chatter therein throughout the day. You can post here, go off to work or what have you, and come back and interact a bit then call it a day.

I’m in a discord with my brother and a few of our friends and my brother doesn’t really play CoH anymore and none of our friends ever played. We’ll just talk shit and chill in the discord between games. If I’m using discord in CoH, its because of HM runs. And that’s only been twice. Other HM runs were without discord. It’s very rare to join a group I think running discord in the wild. Not impossible, I think I’ve been in one before and they invited me to join in but I wasn’t really into discord at the time. But its literally just been that one time.

I know on LGTF 4*, it was a learning run so had to get a feel of the fights, which imo aren’t hard but you still need to put forth a little effort kind of learning what’s exactly damaging you. So, this meant my Cold/Ice wasn’t contributing at max efficiency. I did alright, but the rest more familiar with the TF carried in that instance. But on Aeon? Nah I ripped for sure. But thats because I’m absolutely familiar with that and ITF. My point being, putting in the literal minuscule amount of effort to get familiar with the content is part II of making a contributing HM toon. Part I, the build? Easiest part imo. I smacked a HM build together with no mids. For any role(I have HM viable everything from tank to DPS. Hell even HM viable CC.) it’s seriously not hard. Unlike other MMOs with complex builders and nuanced meta it’s pretty laid out and solved here. At least till the procalypse comes.
-
If people are using discord they usually only advertise in said discord so you more than likely would never know they’re even in it & be on that team in the first place.
-
They closed access down temporarily as leaks were getting out. On one hand I do want more testers in but on the other hand I don’t think a lot of people would test so much as leak potential changes and complain about ones being proposed without testing. I see this happen a LOT in CB

Thing is I never said I was leaving, I said CoH isn’t my only game and I have options, which I guess they take to mean I’m leaving. Crazy how having options and not being ingratiated to a volunteer team means you’re quitting. I’d never announce me leaving, I just leave. Never liked the song and dance of making a post and making a scene over a departure. Being honest, I think a good deal of people here either only play CoH or play it as their main game which, I mean, great! Good for you! They’ll see a post like mine and take offense because maybe they view it as me attacking HC who gave them their favorite/only game back, and thats honestly not my intent. I just speak candidly about the team and CoH itself, I try and even mix in praises if its due, as is the case w/Marine Affinity. And my criticisms aren’t nearly as harsh as they have been in the past.

I can understand where you’re coming from, just like I definitely understand projector and can empathize as i have lead a good number of 3’s & 4’s. Its exhausting…just utterly exhausting. And why I don’t lead it anymore, that and what I am about to follow this up with is why. The reason you see meta comps besides the efficiency it brings in time to complete, is also because of artificial difficulty. Some here may disagree with me but after beating games where that shit doesn’t fly(Lies of P & Black Myth Wukong)and fair challenge is the name of the game, I just look more at what CoH HM is and go, “Yep! Got a good case of AD here”. It’s jacked up stat boost that, while not outright requiring meta comps, makes you notice and regret not doing so, as has even been attested to in this very thread. But thats not all. Barrier lets you ignore 100% of the difficulty of the HM content in ITF and Aeon, and 99.9% in LGTF(can’t ignore suits and gas) . Ergo, my claim of artificial difficulty. If in a game you can ignore the danger of a fight via an easily obtainable power or item, and there are minimal mechanics to counterplay but enemies are sacks of HP and stats, you have artificial difficulty. While fun to run with certain people because it’s quick and efficient, HM is artificial difficulty incarnate. Which is my second reason why I don’t lead these anymore. And why I was on the way out of even running them to begin with(saw a discord invite for Elysian Guardians and ran a few with them. They seem very chill with it)
