You're correct in that it never made much sense but tons of folks did it anyway. They do the same with Blaster /Nrg Energize and it makes no sense to do it there either. -
That's claws but as a rad blast set.

I've never understood that thought. More HP means more Regen happening while you're dodging everything and has improved the performance of the scaling resists since they were added to SR. And there's the truth of it. SR+Tough+Weave. I always 4 slot UG including the unique plus the steadfast and glad armor +3% defense IOs in tough on my SR users. The reactive defenses +scaling resist and shield wall +5% resist IOs I also consider unskippable. Put it all together and you end up with very strong scrappers/brutes and damn near unkillable tanks. Yes, my SR tank laughs at Rom's autohit fluffy. If only I would remember that he's also got EotM/Demonic for really hard stuff.

That was corrected recently I believe. It's got a shorter check period. Edit: Found it. Happened with page 3. Lowered the activation period of powers with scaling resistance from 2s to 0.5s (all ATs). The duration of these effects have been set to 0.75s to compensate. NOTE: This affects PvE as well. Also: Added Toxic Resistance to all scaling resistance powers So SR now only has the psi hole to deal with.

Some thoughts I had regarding DB this morning. Nothing wrong with just ignoring the combos and after 50, you're better off without them.

How can I deal with the constant HP debuffs from the crimson prototype when I'm solo other than running away to let them drop off?

Due to my recent foray into style over substance, I have a StJ/WP brute named Bantam Betty at 42. Being a boxer (granted, a dirty one since heavy blow is sometimes an elbow to the face) she doesn't have access to the powers using feet. Soooo, yea, no rib cracker, shin breaker or spinning strike. Skipping the three best powers in the set, yay! But what it left me with was an easy setup to utilize the combo system. IS-Boxing-HB-IS- (3 levels are up) then either sweeping cross or crushing uppercut. If I miss with either IS or HB, no combo buff on SC or CU but it just doesn't matter as my chain doesn't change. I also have a StJ/Inv brute that will follow my normal max recharge/tight AF attack chain using the best attacks method but I've yet to sit down to see where she'll end up but it's very doubtful that I'll make any attempt to leverage the system there. It'll either happen on its own or it won't. And that's the kind of combo system that makes sense. It shouldn't shoehorn you into any specific chain, ever. They absolutely should NOT be forcing players into sub-optimal chains that might also happen to look/flow like shit.

Yeeeaaaa. I was on a break for the same. Only came back when I heard about the shutdown. To the topic: I'd still like to see level shifts purged from the game completely and have zero desire for more incarnate powers to ever be added. -
That's actually why I can only play dark armor on a tank. Just feels way too squishy for me on a brute or scrapper. Haven't tried it on a sentinel yet.

I don't disagree on the combo side of it, but in the end game, lethal resists aren't as bad as Galaxy Brain's chart leads one to believe. I went scoping around with the power analyzer amongst all the enemy groups I normally face (carnies, CoT, DA Tsoo, Knives and BP) and they just aren't loaded up with lethal resists. And if you do manage to crank enough recharge, as with my db/nrg scrapper, you end up with a triple stack of BF buff on SS in exactly the same way we get a triple stack of FU on Focus with claws. And you know I don't think claws sucks. Even if you're only doublestacking BF and going with BF-AS-SS-AS, AS can take the Achilles' resist debuff and you'll have two chances to keep it persistent. What's really odd about DB is that the highest DPA attack in the set, SS, is a cone.

Random early morning ramblings time. Got the new sr/db tank to 50 and all IOed up and have run into something that makes me think of this thread. Her current chain is BF, SS, NS, AS, TE. The last three are the Weaken combo and if I drop TE when going single target, it grants the Empower combo. Far as I can tell, Weaken does a 7% tohit and defense debuff. Fighting +4s, that's going to be reduced further and made even less meaningful. Empower is +10% damage and 3.3% tohit. This means that if I'm bouncing between the two, skipping TE every other chain, I can keep both buffs up and happy but I am SERIOUSLY kneecapping my damage output for what amounts to nothing. The other choice is to leave NS with a single basic Acc enhancements and delete it from the tray. I lose both combos, 10% damage buff and we'll call it around 7% total tohit buff equivalent but my attack chains become BF, SS, AS, repeat for ST and BF, SS, TE, repeat for AoE. Vastly superior damage output with the downside that it takes a ton of recharge to get there and costs a ton of end to keep running. So the plus side of the combo system in this example is that I don't have to lean on other sources of tohit/acc *as much* if I go with the combos and don't have to chase the recharge/end mgmt dragon nearly as much versus shooting for the meanest/leanest/nastiest attack chains. But it sure was nice seeing all those WEAKENED messages pop up when buried in the horde. It almost feels like the combos, at least with DB and the way I've chosen to play it, are feeding that gratification button in my head but are doing so while lying to me about their actual usefulness. I don't much care for that. Back to chasin the dragon for me then. Edit: Oh, right... I'm only able to get close to that ST chain on my db/nrg scrapper due to the +recharge from Entropic Aura. No way in hell am I pulling that off on the sr/db tank. Guess it'll have to be BF-AS-SS-AS ... bah. ugh. Even that chain needs 313% total recharge in AS and also means no triple stacked BF for SS. Oddly, 313% is the exact value needed in followup for FU-Focus-Slash. Hmmm. MORE bizarre... AoE chain of BF-SS-TE needs exactly 313% as well in TE.

I know that while leveling up, the difference between max diff council and max diff carnies is pretty dang stark. But CoT feel like they're right in the middle. Why aren't there any Rikti or Malta radio missions in PI? If there are I'm gonna feel dumb but I don't think my blinders are that heavy.
