  1. Fair point, I suppose thematic attack powers not unlike the starting origin powers could be worth looking into! After all, all ATs do damage.
  2. Perhaps it could stay as your 'base origin' and this could place a thematic character advancement system over it? maybe instead of origin it could be called 'power source' and would act independently of your origin. However, doing tip missions based on your current origin would simply reaffirm that origin is indeed your current power source. As for the bonuses? I feel like there would have to be incentive to use the system other than just thematics. There would certainly be badges involved, but I don't think that's enough, and since alignments grant you powers I opted to go down that route. Maybe instead of self-buffs, they could instead be useful attack powers with long recharge? somewhere between the effectiveness of an accolade power and a temp power.
  3. So! It's probably come up a few times before about doing more with origins in-game, including specific mission content or different player experiences depending on origin. Right now, there isn't a lot of use for origin in game besides a handful of low level missions and deciding what contacts are open to you, as well as deciding where to by DOs and SOs. I figured we could introduce something similar to the Alignment System, where players can pick up certain tip missions that are based on their origin. Like the alignment system, you can decide how to advance your character's story, deciding what direction they go in. Origin tip missions will prompt you to choose whether you wish to pursue the mission to affirm your current origin, or if you would like to split into having a dual origin. Much like Alignment missions, completing a set number of them will progress you towards your desired origin, and unlock specific rewards. Now, since there are 5 origins and not just 2, that means there will be a lot more branching between them, so instead of having two middle-ground branches like Rogue and Vigilante, your dual origin will be the same regardless of what your primary origin is (natural + tech will be the same as tech + natural). Here is a list of proposed 'dual origins' that players will be able to advance into, along with the special self-affecting powers that each would unlock: PREREQUISITES NEW ORIGIN ORIGIN POWER Natural - Peak Fitness (+Recovery, +Damage) Tech - Upgrade (+Defense, +Recharge) Science - Molecular Bonding (+Regeneration, +ToHit) Mutation - Strangeness (+Resistance, +Speed) Magic - Arcane Conduit (+Accuracy, +Special) Natural/Tech Gadgets Special Payload (+Damage, +Recharge) Natural/Science Research Experimental Serum (+Recovery, +Regeneration) Natural/Mutation Abnormality Savant (+Recovery, +Speed) Natural/Magic Enchantment Rune of Power (+Damage, +Special) Tech/Science Genius Brainstorm (+Recharge, +ToHit) Tech/Mutation Nanotech Nanite Surge (+Defense, +Resistance) Tech/Magic Artifice Animate Forces (+Defense, +Accuracy) Science/Mutation Genetics Adaptive Genes (+ToHit, +Speed) Science/Magic Alchemy Magic Potion (+Regeneration, +Special) Mutation/Magic Curse Devolution (+Resistance, +Accuracy) Just like alignments, when you progress into a dual-origin, you will also then be able to move over to a completely new origin (eg. Natural > Gadgets > Tech). Once you have moved from one origin to another, or have selected a new origin, you will still retain all of your slotted DOs/SOs, but you will not be able to equip new ones that do not fit your origin (or origins). You will retain any active contacts, but any future contacts you are refereed to will instead be those that suit your new origin. In addition to this, new dual origin enhancements could be produced in order to encompass all the different possibilities instead of a select few, which will likely require more art assets to accomplish, but would likely be supplemental to this concept, and not a core addition.
  4. I think that may be because Dark Control and Dark Miasma were given to Controllers at the same time, so they could adjust the secondary accordingly. Though it's still strange how sets like Time, Poison, Trick Arrow and Traps retain a lot of their Mez potential.
  5. So since the idea of elemental masterminds came up, I figured I'd try my hand at it. I didn't want too much overlap with @Naraka's Arcanist since the Animus Arcana do have elemental themes present in their layout. Now, the problem I was running into is that there are 4 elements, but 6 pets, so... I did something a little controversial for it's 18th level ability. Elementals You can summon the power of the elements and give them living form. Elementals encompass a variety of forces, from the powers of wind, earth, fire and water, providing a mixture of different damage types and effects. - Aqua Bolt: (Taken from Water Blast) - Summon Sprites: (Summons 3 random sprites from a list of 4) - Fire Blast: (Taken from Fire Blast) - Imbue Elementals: (Upgrade power) - Fissure: (Taken from Earth Assault) - Summon Elementals: (Summons 2 strong elementals) - Elemental Equilibrium: (Autopower, adds a 4th sprite to the Summon Sprites ability) - Summon Avatar: (Summons a single powerful avatar) - Empower Elementals: (Upgrade power) - Sprites Water Sprite: (inspired by Water Blast, appears as a hovering globe of water akin to Hydro Blast's projectile) Standard: - Aqua Bolt Imbued: - Hydro Blast Upgraded: - Water Burst Fire Sprite: (inspired by Fire Blast, appears as a ball of fire much like the Animus Arcana Fireball) Standard: - Flares Imbued: - Fire Blast Upgraded: - Fire Ball Earth Sprite: (inspired by Legacy Chain Earth mobs, appears as a levitating stone boulder) Standard: - Propel Rocks Imbued: - Propel Boulder Upgraded: - Fissure Wind Sprite: (inspired by Sonic Blast, appears as vortex of wind) Standard: - Air Bolt Imbued: - Wind Blast Upgraded: - Pressure Blast - Elementals Storm Elemental: (inspired by storm summoning, as well as water, ice, and lightning powers, appears as a storm cloud with snow, lightning and wind) Standard: - Aqua Bolt, , - Lightning Bolt Imbued: - Thunder Clap, - Lightning Field, - Shiver Upgraded: - Snow Storm, - Freezing Rain Primal Elemental: (inspired by minions of ignius, as well as stone and fire powers, appears as a ball of magma with dripping lava and plumes of fire and ash) Standard: - Lava Blast, - Flares Imbued: - Ryolite, - Mud Pots, - Heat Exhaustion Upgraded: - Melt Armor, - Basalt Bomb - Avatar Avatar: (a collection of different elemental powers, with some borrowed from sirocco, appears as a rainbow emitting water, fire, debris and wind) Standard: - Lava Blast, - Steam Spray, - Thunder Clap Imbued: - Fissure, - Sleet, - Mud Pots Upgraded: - Cinders, - Geyser, - Dust Devils
  6. You aren't gonna get much of a response here then
  7. I'm gonna shamelessly self promote again cos I had a fair few assault powersets conceptualised over in my thread here;
  8. Heroes have their contacts that live one district over on speed dial, but villains have to plan a trip to a whole other island to scheme with them in person? The sheer injustice.
  9. Wouldn't be the Homecoming Forums without the weekly difficulty adjustment thread.
  10. For the first 6 months they were talking about what font they want to use in the new terms and conditions, I think they settled on ariel.
  11. Commies are staple of superhero fantasy
  12. Glad to see people are finally getting use out of their philosophy degrees these days.
  13. What's worse is when people are upset at people being upset at people.
  14. I made one a few months ago that focused on making a new stealth archetype like stalker, but focused entirely on range. The end result was something of a combination of Blaster/Corruptor, and had a single target focus and stealth capabilities.
  15. Fame had come quite naturally to Mellow Dee, the popular lounge singer often nicknamed 'The Siren of St. Martial', an apt name for the enchanting performer as she captivated audiences with her beautiful and melodic voice. Little did they know that they were being hypnotised, soothed and seduced into becoming more compliant and less... wilful. In truth, Mellow Dee's singing was the medium for her powers, every note lulling her victims under her control, enticing them to surrender their fortunes to her casino, going against their better judgement as they gambled on and on, the stakes getting higher with each game with no sense of restraint as they lost time and time again. Such addiction to the power she wielded inspired her to explore greater means of control, using her wealth and influence to push her singing career to local radio, where she learned that her powers did not carry the same potency as they did in her live performances. While her voice still carried a seductive melody that made people more suggestible, it lacked the ability to properly control them. Even with the magnitude of her powers being diminished, they were enough to reward her with a small fortune in record sales, but that wasn't enough for her, she desired nothing but absolute perfection for her talents, hoping to find a way to harness her powers over the airwaves in their pure and unrestrained form. "My my, this simply will not do, what's a girl to do to get some proper recording equipment? Mmh, that kinda technology doesn't just grow on trees, I'm gonna need something tailor made just for me, and that's not gonna come cheap..." She ponders, giving a melancholy sigh as she considers her options. Mellow Dee was no stranger to getting her hands dirty, metaphorically at least, when the Family or Carnies threatened her business, but she had hoped to be above all that by now. "Looks like I may have to get a little more hands on after all, maybe make a few friends who can open doors for me, create the kinda opportunity I need to get ahead... besides, a little villainy does wonders for the career around here, bad publicity is good publicity in the Isles after all!" She smirked to herself, looking into numerous influential groups that were making waves in the Isles, the kind of people that respect power and aren't afraid to use it. After looking through many would-be syndicates and aspiring cartels, she eventually came by the Sinister Squad... yes, these were the ones, she could feel it. She got up and poured herself a glass of scotch, pressing a button on her PA system with a devilish grin. "Josephine, could you be a darling and send my agent to meet the 'Sinister Squad'? I wanna do a collab, they'd be perrrfect for my next project~"
  16. Give Crane Kick its original 'Chun-Li' animation
  17. Trying to score points off current events huh? Low.
  18. There were a few ideas being thrown around in this thread, if any of them interest you, feel free to pick them out and include them here!
  19. I made a medic character recently who uses Medicine and Experimentation instead of Empathy, does that count?
