  1. Actually in the earliest version of superman, its not stated anywhere that the powers he had did not exist inherently in his people on his home world, in fact they are described as a race of supermen, who have achieved utopia, and their destruction is far more meant to be like a true tragic loss for all the universe and Kal El is truly like this spec of gold dust that has survived the storm that has blown away all the rest of the beach made of gold. Ideas like his powers being part of being on the Earth, and them coming from our sun all came much later, as did powers like his eye beams and flying.
  2. While there is certainly cross over and blurring of the lines, CoH itself along with the icons of the industry that we all know and mostly love, have given us standards and precedents to work with. For example Captain America is your classic Science origin. While there are exceptions, one could argue the biggest difference between Science and Mutation when they over lap, is science tends to be more controlled in application and outcome. One could say the Red Skull as per the MCU could be called more of a mutation of the planned result. Mutation can be applied more to those who are random in their nature be it from birth or from exposure to radiation etc( Hulk and the FF are both def mutation, and in fact Im pretty sure these days marvel says basically human alive to day with power has like some kind of genetic ancestry dating back to the early inhumans or something though I could be terribly wrong on this bit) Spider Man def is mutation, and again there have been plenty of issues that say the bite activated his latent x gene rather than out right imbuing him with the powers he gained so it really is a fickle barrel with him. Wolverine, well old school wolvy gawds knows what his official back story is these days. He was so long lived and his original origins so clouded we couldnt even say for sure he wasnt some non human life form, as some early ideas around him included being a wolverine mutated into a human more like the TMNT concept, and him being the first mutant, an cave man type, very akin to DC's Vandal Savage. Then ofcourse his fighting ability is more attached to centuries of honing his skills, and his super weapons are the result of science. CoH shows us a few examples with the Kheldians. Peace Bringers are natural, they are what they are. Nictus/warshades are what they are via science used to create a controlled mutation. If I gather the lore right, the war wolves are basically the failed by product, and are true mutations in that sense. Now obviously plan, and even consent to the procedure are not a must for any of the above origins, nor is getting the wanted outcome versus a random one. But typically more of such varied traits tend to be more attached to some origin stories then others, just like most vigilante origins start with the tragic loss of a loved on.
  3. Ill just point out that in the old canon, Katana like swords were the pre lightsaber weapon of the early force mystics who would become the founders of the first Jedi order. Also, that outfit looks more like a tatooine moisture farmers outfit, than the uniform of a jedi knight, which is what Luke is wearing in Return of the Jedi. Specifically it was the uniform of one general obi wan kenobi, and is why it actually has elements shared with those high ranking officers we see in the Empire. Its actually in the novelization that luke's first stop on his return to the desert world he called home for so long, is to return to Obiwans home and that is how he gets the parts he needs to make his new lightsaber, as well as aquire the traditional uniform of the Knightly order he now feels worthy to represent.
  4. Ok time to come across as a bit of a real berk, but I dont really see anything said here that is anything a player didnt figure out via playing sooner or later. The RNG and drop rates in this game are very very random. Over the years on live and now this year plus on HC Ive run no few TFs, ITFs and LGTFs among them, not as speed runs but as mass murder runs for fun and xp for those working on their incarnate unlocking etc. Even when you run an ITF on +4 with a full party, and kill every single mob in every missions, it will be a pretty big deal if even one person gets and links a purple in chat. I mean there is a reason that back on live they could command the insane prices they did because of the ratio of inf vs purples added to the population via all the players. In other words, you can run 8 players on a long mass murder run, and if even one gets a purple drop that is a bit of true luck. Keep in mind the reason dual boxxing/full party farms should still see way way more purple drops than 1 guy running at x8 because of the 7 others getting rolls for their own drops with every kill. Thats why my runs tend to be a mix of fast mass murder and speed via stealth and multi prong tactics when teaming as while I dont want the slog of making every mish a kill all, I also understand that a healthy body count and the drops that go with them really help alongside merits to keep up the coffers of this non farmer.
  5. Or as many cultures viewed them, an inherently magical object, that represented the binding together of the 4 elements in perfect harmony. For to make a perfect blade Takes metal from the Earth, placed in the flame to burn away its impurities, with air being used to breath into the fire to bring it to white hot temperature, and then quenched in water.
  6. Fun fact, when Devs played as the sig heroes, they could and did use conventional ATs, that were those they favored as normal players. I recall Ghost Falcon specifically played as a ill/kin troller, and I said to him odd I never would of thought those his power sets, and he replied to me oh they are not, they are just what I like to play with the most.
  7. I mean this smells of troll for a lot of reasons but what the hey Ill try and suggest some things. If your starting funds for alts are usually around 10 mil, well that is super easy via merits now days. go knock out a quick tf run a chapter in one of the sig arcs for an easy 20 merits. fact is the first part of who will die is so easy for most ATs to solo at level, along with arcs in the hollows, that with all those merits, you should be able to pretty well self fund any new toon without a big need for a lot of extra funds from alts. Now days when you complete all the story arcs in a zone you also get a big merit bonus, so go do the 4 in the hollows and net around 80 merits for each alt to finance their early career. Stalkers especially do this silly easy.
  8. My very human centric character invisible falcon, avoids any set bonuses over 2 parts, doesnt have more then around 60ish% dmg buffs in any of his attacks, doesnt use any super power travel powers just rocket board and pack etc. Is not an incarnate. Basically meant to be my idea of as close to a human in a world of meta human type concept. as a claw/wp scrapper he still holds his own quite well ofcourse.
  9. Ill be honest I dont see a great need for some kind of change. I mean sure it would be nice if AE could reward like normal content, but there is no real way to do that without a revamp to rewards that makes them dynamic and based on actual risk vs character, and thus rewards more to weaker characters tackling content that is actually risky for them. Until then, AE does more than any other MMO ever did when it comes to giving us endless content. Being able to create custom story arcs to share our characters personal adventures with friends is a hell of a powerful tool for the role play faction which CoH has always had an atypically high population of among MMO.
  10. Im always of 2 minds on this. While I love the original highlander for a lot of reasons, its lead actor being basically blind without glasses and flailing away in the fight scenes makes what should be the best fight scenes some of the worst in all of film. Now the fight scene between Ramirez and the Kurgen was pretty epic, but that is about it. Because both have some real world martial arts and fencing training in their acting arsenal. Now the T.V. series had for its lead a guy with some pretty solid stage fighting craft, making even the early seasons with rough plots and acting chemistry still gelling, the fight scenes are a lot of visual fun. Now the movies that came from the tv show, oh gawds I still try to bury every memory of end game. Though the one with Mako being the sword maker in the beginning. I kinda do have a soft spot for that one. The villain is just over the top great, a real kurgen 2.0 The leading lady actually does something of use, and isnt just a damsel in distress. At least when the sword breaks in it, its epic, where as in the source, its just pathetic and sad as can be when the iconic katana is snapped like a twig.
  11. So apparently Cryptic took offense to my suggesting folks playing CO come try home coming on the Steam CO discussion page. got my first ever steam forum ban directly from the game developers it said.
  12. I will admit as much as I want to play devils advocate and defend this pool, it is not the easiest hill to find some terrain on to put together a defensive position for. For myself I have 2 characters that make use of this pool, and these are choices made as much for RP as anything so not mainly a meta gamer pov. One is my PB. He uses heal other and glowing touch to heal an ally up in a pinch. He only uses the first 2 powers. I carry the rez ally temp with plenty of charges for that need, costs be damned, and self heal just fine with my built in powers. The other is my regen using Dr. Demetrios Vasilikos. He has the full pool for thematic reasons. But being regen actually gets a fair bit of use out of it all. No few times a team has wiped, he has won last man standing style, then got his team back up on their feet. I do kinda feel like I am seeing some real ???? thinking though. I mean we cant say the game is so easy there is no challenge, but then say a power that is abit of a challenge to use "in combat" is useless or bad, becuase what is really being said is anything that is a challenge to actually use or do is bad. If the content is hammering your toon hard enough it needs to heal, falling back to do so is perfectly viable. Odds are if your even pondering such, your not on a toon tuned for extreme dif solo play or the like. And yeah against the likes of frost fire solo, being able to fall back and recover can be a huge boon to the player/toon of average ability.
  13. When I started last year I was a few months behind, and while the lore names I certainly fretted over it was Skylord that I was glad and surprised to find open still on Everlasting. For clarification his actual name is Skylord, he is not a Sky Lord or some such.
  14. yeah only whip like attack in this game was for demon MM last I checked. Def sounds like something in champions online. I dug me the kunai with the chain drag upgrade on it, so handy in pvp.
  15. I was pondering trying to poach from Champions Online by going to their steam page and talking about homecoming here.
  16. The Roanoke colony, and its mystery is not so mysterious these days, despite some use still in pop culture fiction. Some years ago, using DNA testing, a direct link was established between some family members in Europe who passed on their DNA to today, and descendants from the tribal peoples living in that region at the time. While this doesnt fill in all the blanks, it leaves little doubt at least some of the lost colony went to live with the tribes, more than likely to survive in something of an opposite to how we hear the first thanksgiving in jamestown would go down years later. Rather than bring food to the colony they brought people back to their homes to live among them. Funny enough accounts generations later by colonists speaking of some "indians" having more "civilized" traits like lighter skin, and facial features they considered more english in appearance. So its even likely some of the welcome later colonies received from certain tribes was due in part to them having some idea of their colonist ancestry. And it really should not be some surprise or mystery, when people go missing in mass, its going to be people behind it one way or another more often then not.
  17. Honestly the personal timeline/time travel aspect of CoH for each character tends to make this question largely moot. Some keep it somewhere between 2000-2012. Some treat it as modern day despite the retro look of the world. The D is especially hard to keep straight when some RP it as being in Paragon, even though one look outside tells you its not anywhere near Earth.
  18. Why? They certainly didnt back on live. CoH/CoV pvp was rather infamous among MMO and a major blight on the record of Cryptic for a number of reasons. Among them being the main way they found most players engaged with the system was mass farming between groups who would just trade kills with no actual game play involved. Hell look at what HC has done. PvP IOs the only actual reward for PvP has been added to the merit vendors. So now the only draw to pvp zones is for many, a non pvp reason such as the zone badges and temp powers, most often used for pve tactics. Currently entire zones just sit largely unused because they are left to rot for a niche of the community that has always been so small as to not even rate 1% of the population.
  19. Well its kinda funny because it was your post in another thread that kinda inspired this along with a few player posts in the same thread PSA: Harassment (being defined as continuing to interact with a player after being asked to stop) is against the CoC. The above was posted by you, and the conversation that followed after( what there was that was actual conversation) seemed to suggest the above included those in pvp zones asking others to not bother them. So at what point does pvp turn into harassment? as in most pvp games there are rules against griefing and ganking to help keep that kind of pvp in check even in open world pvp zones.
  20. Hm was the horror film It's Alive! loosely based on your birth?
  21. I mean this is true, I do exist after all. Dont worry everyone, I love you all like that creepy uncle;)
  22. Not everyone respects the green, just ask Swamp Thing.
  23. My character Skylord is actively RPed as an addict of this super soldier serum.
  24. Without wanting to drag drama from another thread up, an interesting insight from a regular poster was offered in one that made me start pondering. If we as players have the right to ask others to leave us be in open pvp zones if we are just there to badge hunt, and can report them for harassment if they do not, then perhaps could the DEV team have it in their power to instead make open world pvp something we engage in via an option we toggle off and on? I ponder this because from both camps Ive seen kind of the other side of the coin wants back on live and even now on HC, and that is the non pvper who wants to go into the zones to grab badges and run the mission content there, but go unbothered by pvpers, and pvpers who yearn for more open world pvp like the ability to bring a villain blue side and hunt down their nemesis. As it would all be opt in, opt out it would both expand pvp for those who want it, and remove the threat of it entirely for those who dont want it. And since apparently all we need to do to opt out now is state it in zone once, and then are entitled to report attacks in the zone there after as harassment, which could lead to pvpers who dont think this banner of immunity should fly to getting into trouble. So pvper and non pvper alike, what do you think, should one who asks to be left alone in an open pvp zone be fair game or is it fair game for them to report those who do attack them for harassment?
  25. Actually a few years ago while I was running a pen and paper RPG set in more or less modern day, a x files kinda conspiracy thing, I made used of several games including the train sim, trucker sim and euro trucker sim, and a cityscape transportation design game that all had pretty accurate roads and city locations to use on the big screen in my living room while playing to act as a kind of additional prop for the players like a mission impossible type briefing.
