  1. So an update. My corruptor is only level 42 right now, but I am following the tweaked build I posted. I made a few minor changes to improve recovery like adding in miracle + recovery and panacea. I have almost all of the expensive item purchased and slotted. The most expensive by far was the ATO set. I bought cheaper items and converted to get the LOTG, Panacea, Miracle, and defense global increases. Probably saved a good 30m doing that. Biggest expense I still need to make is the preventative medicine set. I think I can probably get that for 15-18m. So that added to the amount I’ve already spent (including cost of converters used), I will have spent about 140m on the build. The endurance issues Darkir brought up are have been cleared with the recovery IOs. They will be a completely non issue once I get Ageless. Otherwise it is a S/L/E softcapped with decent resists on S/L budget build. Damage is good. Recharge is good in my opinion. Between hasten, siphon speed, and global bonuses things recharge fairly quickly. Recharge will get a lot better as I upgrade though. I think it will be pretty easy to upgrade as I go along as well. All of the IOs I used are used often enough that they can be resold. And many of them are used in the more expensive builds. I know 150m (rounded up for easy number) is still a lot for many people, but it is as cheap as I could figure out how to do it. Use converters to get the expensive globals to help make it cheaper. I will post the updated build later tonight in case anyone else wants to use it. I will also post an update once I reach 50, have the full build, and a couple incarnates unlocked.
  2. I’ve seen the buy it now price for rares go up slightly. Used to get them instantly every time for 500k. This last week it’s been 600-700k when I’ve tried. I’ve even had to go for the 1m seeded one a couple of times if I wanted the buy it now price. I agree that you can still get them for 500k though if you wait a bit.
  3. I’m starting to agree with market manipulation. Last night I wanted to list a purple drop from a market crash task force. I didn’t have the yellow salvage for it so I bid for it on the AH. First bid, 25k. Nothing. Rebid at 50k. Waited a few minutes while getting the other white and orange salvage and getting a drink. Not filled. Rebid at 75k and still not filled. So I ended up bidding the 100k for the seeded items. I tend to agree that this is griefing as opposed to profit seeking as there are much easier ways to make a profit. I know it doesn’t make much of a dent, but I’ve been dumping all my yellow salvage on the AH for 1 influence to try to help.
  4. Welcome Back! We can all relate to the excitement of finding out CoH was resurrected. The Homecoming Team made many quality of life improvements over Live that will help you get back into it more easily. A few tips. Use them at your discretion as some of these tips do not fit every play style. The P2W vendor in Atlas Park. This vendor sells many very useful things for free. Double XP boosters - free (note you won’t get influence from mob kills) will help with leveling faster. Ninja run (Free) gives a good run speed and jumping boost. Reveal (this cost 10k influence) is handy to reveal the entire map of missions. Secondary mutation - free and handy for random buffs every 20 minutes. Plus many others very useful things (though some do cost influence). Leveling has never been easier with low level TFs, DFB, and AE. I would avoid going straight to AE farms though until you get a handle on the flow of the game. I’m not dissing on them, I use them a lot myself, but perhaps get a single toon into the 30s first before starting with AE farming. That will give you a good refresher. DFB teams will advertise every day, give good low level experience, offers a nice temporary boost, and is an actual teaming event as opposed to door sitting an AE farm. Task forces are even better as they offer reward merits. Also there are always plenty of radio teams advertising that you can join at almost any level. Those are always a good option. Enhancements: Not sure how much of a refresher you need on enhancements, but I suggest using double origin enhancements until level 22. Then go to the university in Steel Canyon and do the invention origin tutorial. It will award you with a level 25 IO. I’d work on filling your slots with level 25 IOs, which are about equivalent to a single origin enhancement, but never get outleveled. These can be a bit pricey when you are first starting out, but I’ll tell you how to make some money. Money - easiest way to make some decent money is to hop in low level task forces. Do several of them. You’ll quickly accumulate 30-50 merits. Go to a merit vendor and turn these into enhancement converters. One merit = 3 converters. Sell the converters on the auction house. You can even post them for 1 influence each and they will always sell immediately for 75-90k. So, 50 merits will get you a little over 10m influence. This will cover all the level 25 IOs easily. Anyway just a few tips. Biggest one of all is to just have fun and enjoy teaming again!
  5. Thanks for the feedback. Very good points brought up especially about endurance. Keep in mind mine is not a final build, but rather one to use as I collect funds to eventually make it more like your kintank build. Yeah I did have stamina turned off. I could probably swing a miracle + recovery and move a slot around to slot it in health. I can probably move around another slot to beef up stamina. I’ll have to check the prices on panacea again tonight, but when I checked before those were pretty expensive. So I that one may need to wait for later down the road. I plan to take the ageless destiny, which will help with endurance. I’ll eventually get the other ATO and split it, which will help give me some more recharge. Looking at the agility alpha power again, I suppose I should take that one anyway, even thought I softcapped s/l/e without it, as it still benefits recharge and recovery as well as defense. Or I could potentially take spiritual for greater recharge. I take it I will be at the damage cap with fulcrum shift so musculature would be a waste correct?
  6. I was tweaking the builds to get even more budget friendly and came up with the following. No purples. Only a few expensive non-ATO enhancements. Only one set of ATO, but I could also switch that out for something cheaper, but energy defense would take a slight hit. What do you think? 7. I’ll look into this as well. Superior ATOs should be okay since I have 11 or 12 catalysts laying around already.
  8. Thanks a bunch! I will take a look at these tomorrow. I would like to have an Uber build, but I need to get the funds built up first. So I figured I’d start with a more budget version first.
  9. Hello All, I am making a fire/kin corruptor for use mainly in normal missions and taskforces. I've seen some awesome looking builds, but they all seem pretty pricey. I wanted to ask for some help in getting a slightly more budget friendly build (no purples, no ATOs) that will perform well in team. I might be able to swing the ATO sets. I'm not sure if I should be trying to softcap range and then shoot for recharge. Or perhaps try softcapping S/L/E and then shooting for rech. Not really sure how to get there without breaking the bank. I'm hoping to not spend more than 100-120m on the build. Not sure if that is possible. It doesn't need to be godly. Just solid. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  10. One of my first toons on homecoming was a staff/bio brute. I chose staff because I wasn’t able to try it on live and I liked the costume options for it. I didn’t know anything about bio, but liked that it had stances. With offensive adaptation, form of the body, and fury all going this thing is a damage machine. Chews through anything and everything. And looks cool doing it. It is so versatile with being able to combo any two of the three staff forms and bio adaptations.
  11. I ended up leaving the game well before sundown due to life reasons. So I never got to experience the updated stalkers on live. Let’s just say they are 1000% better now. Especially if you already liked them. Except perhaps energy melee. The assassins focus, out of stealth assassins strike change, and the stalker ATOs really beefed up the damage of stalkers. And made the combat faster. Both sets of ATOs are awesome. Stalkers guile gives you the hide proc. Put that in assassins strike always. Assassins Mark gives all of your attacks a chance to finish the cooldown on build up. Id say a safe budget for each enhancement in both sets is 7-9m.
  12. Not that this was me, but thought I’d share. I just accidentally bid with an extra zero on an enhancement. But a couple nice people helped me out.
  13. My first experience with trying super packs has made me not want to ever do them again. Granted I only bought 2 super packs, but I got zero ATO and only got temp powers and brain storm materials. No merits or anything else of worth. So my 20m investment turned out to only give me about 5m worth of stuff to sell. So I lost 15m on the experiment. I’m sure if I had a larger sample size it might not be so atrocious, but my experience just doesn’t make me want to risk it.
  14. Yeah I’ve upped my bids to 15,001 in the last week. Used to bid 5k and it filled instantly. I agree that it’s pocket change when doing the converter marketing, but it’s still kind of annoying.
  15. We all are preyed upon by our mischievous minds at one point or another. For example, I was on a market crash TF last night. I really enjoy the TF and the rewards are great. So I was amped to play it on my ice blaster that I had finally gotten to level 40. At the end of the second missions, my mind gave out. For some reason, I thought the “leave team” button was the exit mission button. Even the warning didn’t get through my skull. When I exited and realized I wasn’t on the team anymore my mind woke up. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed. Sometimes our brains are just douchebags.
  16. I just appreciate the hell out of being able to play the game again and the fact that they facilitate that. Doubly so that they do it voluntarily.
  17. Depends on the play style you like. If you’ve played other mmos: do you like melee, Range, suport, tanks? I will echo the sentiment that melee characters are a bit more forgiving due to defensive sets. But they are also in melee range. Ranged sets can still be a lot of fun. I don’t have much experience in control/support sets so can’t offer much advice for those. Here are my thoughts on various archetypes and powersets. Keep in mind this is all just my opinion. YMMV. Also I’m only going to mention a few primaries and secondaries for each archetype I discuss. These won’t necessarily be the best or most popular, but ones that I like and are their to give you ideas. Melee Archetypes Stalkers: The Soloist. A stealth archetype with extremely good melee damage. You can stealth to objectives and skip mobs you don’t feel like fighting. More than most other archetypes you get to decide when, where, and what to engage. Some sets offer good AoE damage, but in general is more single target focused. These are the boss killers. Auto crit out of stealth and decent chance to crit out of stealth. Inherent gives you stacks of focus that makes your premier damage power (assassins strike) auto crit out of stealth. Or you can do an extreme crit (Soviet slower animation) from stealth. Notable primaries: Ninja Blade - your typical assassin. Awesome style (especially the assassins blade power). Great utility. Great damage. Can’t go wrong with this primary. Street Justice - monster Damage. Crunching sound affects. Feels nice and fast. Electric - great AoE for a stalker. More so than most other sets. Notable secondaries: Ninjitsu - good defense (as opposed to resist) based secondary. Offer positional as opposed to typed defense. (Might want to read up on the difference, but I value positional more than typed if available). Shield - also offers positional defenses. Gives you a +damage aura. Also gives you a nice AoE attack to supplement single target focused primaries. Energy - good types defenses. Bio Armor - layered mitigation. Very high healing/absorb. Good recovery tools to help with endurance. Decent resists as well as some typed defenses. Gives you the ability to change adaptations (basically stances): you can decide to do more damage, have better recovery, or have better survivability. Scrapper: The Brawler. Very high melee damage dealer. While perhaps not as high single target damage as stalkers, they are still one of the highest damage dealers in the game. They also don’t skimp on AoE damage except for certain primaries. Inherent power gives them the ability to crit, though they can’t control crits as well as stalkers. I think they have better overall survivability than stalkers, but not by an insane amount. Notable primaries: Martial Arts - not going to be topping the charts with this powerset. Doesn’t have great AoE. Largely considered inferior to street justice. But damn - the set just looks so good. My personal favorite primary for scrappers. Feels fast, flows nicely, looks awesome, and does good single target damage. Titan Weapons - obligatory mention that it’s the highest damage set. No contest. I liked it for a while, but got kind of bored of it. Still it is a great set with a very interesting momentum mechanic. First attack is painfully slow, but builds momentum. Subsequent attacks have some of the fastest animations available while momentum lasts (5 seconds I think). Claws - if you ever liked wolverine growing up, then this set is for you. Very fast attacks. Good single target. Good AoE. Truly a great well rounded set. Dark melee - good single target damage. Somewhat anemic AoE, but that is partially being addressed in an upcoming patch. Great utility. Offers to hit debuffs on enemies, a power to replenish endurance, and a very strong + damage power. Notable secondaries: Bio armor - same as for stalkers, but even better. Shield - same as for stalkers, but even better. Willpower - a very well rounded set and forget powerset. Gives healing, recovery, and decent resists. Unlike bio armor or Regen it is not clicky at all (doesn’t require a lot of action on your part). Regen - again if you ever liked wolverine, then this set is for you. I personally think bio armor is better, but this is still a great healing based secondary. It gets kind of a bad rap by some, but it is still very popular. Brute: The love child of an unstoppable force and an immovable object. Very high melee damage. Very high survivability. There is honestly no downside to brutes. Their inherent makes you do more damage the more you engage the enemy. The can deal almost as much damage as scrappers and survive almost as well as tankers. Probably the most solo friendly archetype if you just want to engage everything. Also extremely valuable on teams. Stalkers are still better soloists if you want to be able to skip things though. Notable primaries: Rad @ spines - just lumping these two together as premier farming sets. Neither of them are my favorite though, but they perform well. Claws - good fast attacks to help with fury generation. Good single target and AoE. Staff Fighting - this set gets a bad rap. Largely considered best to use this set on stalkers. But I love it on brutes. Great animations, great AoE, and decent single target. Also this is the only melee primary that gives you stances (called forms in this set). Pair this with bio armor and you have a lot of adaptability for various situations. Notable secondaries: Willpower - same as scrappers, but better. Higher resist caps and high base health to work with the Regen. Great set and forget set. Fiery aura - highest possible damage secondary. Burn, blazing aura, and fiery embrace make this set almost mandatory for farming. I didn’t know it at the time, but this was the set I picked for my first level 50 on lives. I paired it with super strength. Turned out to be great at farming by accident. The set has a lot of holes in it for general content, but maxes out fire resistance easily. Invulnerability - Superman. Outstanding survivability. Once you get it up and running you won’t die. Tanker: Love child of an immovable force that happened to be right next to another immovable force. Will survive pretty much anything. Recent changes made by homecoming also greatly improved tanker damage as well. So honestly they aren’t slacking when it come to damage either. Notable primaries (notice that primaries and secondaries are reversed for tankers): Invulnerability - same as brutes but even better. Bio armor - honestly this is great on any archetype that can take it, but tanker higher base values milk it for even more worth. Shield - again great for the same reasons as for scrappers and stalkers. Willpower - same as above, but even better. Notable secondaries: Super strength - Superman. Knockout blow - extreme single target power. Footstomp - superb AoE power. Rage - basically what every other + damage power wishes it could be. Though it does have an annoying crash for 10 seconds. Most popular tanker secondary by far. It’s also good on brutes, but I mentioned it here instead. War Mace - very good single target, very good AoE, and great control. Good crunching sound affects. It’s not Titan weapons, but it’s decently close. Electrical melee - not great at single target, but good AoE damage. Pair it with shield and you have two teleport mini nukes. Very fun. Ranged Archetypes Note I am not including defenders, corruptors, masterminds, or dominators in my discussion as I don’t have enough experience with them and they add an element of support/control to their gameplay. Blaster: As Nick Fury once said to Loki, “Ant, meet boot.” Highest ranged damage, great melee damage. Blasters are damage kings. Their primary is a ranged attack set and their secondary is a melee attack set. They don’t have a set dedicated to survivability like the melee archetypes. Though their secondaries to have a sustain power. The more they attack the enemy the more damage they do. Each of their primary sets has a nuke. Very fun and hectic. Notable primaries: Fire blast - best damage primary. Fast attacks. Superb single target. Superb AoE. Inferno is basically the end all be all of attacks in the game. Very fun set. Ice blast - much more single target focused than fire, but still very good damage. Ice has the added bonus of having control baked into the set in the form of slows, -rech, and even holds. Archery - this set seems to have people that either absolutely love or it absolutely hate it. The hate mainly comes from the fact that it is largely lethal damage, which is one of the most resisted damage types in the game. However, it’s nuke recharges very quickly and it has good single target. Fills the Green Arrow/Hawkeye itch. Dual pistols - very cool (if over the top) animations. Won’t win any damage contests, but similar to martial arts on scrappers it just feels good to play. Plus you can pair it with martial combat on blasters for some awesome fun. Notable secondaries Martial combat - see above. Pair it with dual pistols and go to town. Might not be the best secondary, but the fun factor is very high. Energy manipulation - great for boosting your primary attack set. Very popular set. Tactical arrow - my personal favorite secondary. Has an awesome sustain power. Some baked in recharge. Good control options. Pairs nicely with any primary, but naturally goes with archery. Sentinel: Love child of blaster and scrapper. You have the blaster primaries and the scrapper secondaries. Though there are some modifications to the powers in each set. The don’t do as much damage as blasters, but they trade that damage for good survivability. Their inherent power is gives you the option to debuff a target or gain some healing. Notable primaries: Beam rifle - probably one of the best sentinel primaries. Gains an AoE versus the blaster set and has good single target damage. Dual pistols - fun for the same reason as blasters. Fire blast - use this if you want to eek out as much damage as possible. Notable secondaries: I really like how they adapted the secondaries when they were added to sentinel. Bio armor - especially in offensive adaptation. Boosts up the damage, which seems to be one of the main complaints about sentinels. As with the melee archetypes it has good layered mitigation. Radiation - this set has some great resists. It also has some good baked in utility with +rech, +dam, and a heal. Can’t really go wrong with this. Regen - great absorb shield, self healing, recovery. Simple to use and very popular. Super reflexes - great positional defenses. Baked in + recharge. Better version of status protection than the same set in other archetypes. Ninjitsu - stealth, positional defenses, heal, recovery. What’s not to like? Again, the above listing and discussion is by no means exhaustive, but it should help give you ideas.
  18. And here I was happy to have dinged 50 for the first time a few weeks ago.
  19. The community is not running the show, nor should they. This is the devs game and we are along for the ride. Server costs are run on donations, but their time is not compensated. And honestly their time is likely the most important part of keeping homecoming alive. They have been plenty engaging and plenty transparent. Honestly, requesting them to be more so is too much in my opinion. We are lucky they do as much as they do already. We may not agree with everything they do. But we shouldn’t forget that they are volunteers and are thus not entitled to their time. I would think differently if they were actually compensated. Though even in that case I still wouldn’t agree with the community running the show.
  20. Probably people being impatient. I’m one of those people. I will bid up to 10k per yellow salvage so that I can do my enhancement conversion market routine for the evening. Only if I forget to put in my bids the night before though. To make it fast though I still always put 5k bids the evening before.
  21. I liked the name Surge Protection proffered a couple pages back.
  22. I agree the name really shouldn’t have mattered. That’s the whole point. My point is changing it to get rid of drama sets a precedent that causing drama over something will get them to change things. When if they had just kept it as is because it didn’t matter enough to change, then it wouldn’t have set a precedent for successfully getting something changed due to drama. That’s what I’m disappointed about. I agree the devs have been professional in pretty much every regard. That’s why this is the first time I’ve actually been disappointed with one of their actions. But I’m beating a dead horse now. What’s done is done. Hopefully I’m wrong about this setting a bad precedent and is just a one off.
  23. Fair enough. Not changing it wouldn’t have been refusing to change out of spite in my opinion. It would be simply refusing to cave to some people taking offense to the name. Especially given that it is not the only questionable thing in the game. I liked the original name a lot. But the reason I’m disappointed with the change is because it really does feel like they were bullied into changing it as the other poster had said. I had hoped since these are volunteer devs and not part of a big entity that there would be less of that type of thing. Guess not.
  24. Surge protection isn’t a bad name. Not as good as shock therapy, but certainly better than electrical affinity.
