Non Tanker Has Questions since Tanker Changes
Gobbledygook replied to Gobbledygook's topic in Tanker
Finally got the chance to look at the build. Definitely interesting. Might switch to Dark/Dark/Soul. I was going to base this toon loosely off of the Darkness (Jackie Estecado) from Image comics anyway. Just look at the Bio Organic costume and tell me it wasn't meant to be used for that? And you're right Doc. I've been thinking of the ATO procs like damage procs, maybe to much so. Seigmorag, I'm just gonna, um, borrow your build, but I'll be swapping out Pyre Mastery for Soul Mastery. That gives me Darkest Night for -Dmg and -to hit, Soul Tentacles for another cone and a -res proc, and Dark Oblit, which I know is weaker than Fireball, but it stays in line with the character concept. -

Thx for the build to look over. I'll check it out once I get home. -
Non Tanker Has Questions since Tanker Changes
Gobbledygook replied to Gobbledygook's topic in Tanker
No, I'm not tanking for damage. As I said, I could never play a tank because their damage felt anemic. I get, and use taunt, on my Brutes. If I'm on a team as a Scrapper and a teammates health gets to half, I drop my target, and kill whatever is attacking. I'm what other Scrappers refer to as a "domesticated scrapper". I'm just interested in tanks now because of the buffs. Because I do solo quite a bit. So now I can do actual damage with a walking wall of steel. -

Actually haven't worked on a build yet. Been trying to wrap my head around the Tank buffs, the DM changes and learning about procs. I will be building a WP/DM though. So I know that SL, MG, and Gloom will be in the attack chain, as I remember from my last DM toon that they were part of the attack chain I used to solo AV's. Of course I'll need Soul Drain, and I want Shadow Maul and Dark Oblit for some AoE in the build, but I haven't gotten farther than that. I just downloaded the "Bleeding Edge" Mids Reborn last night. -

Hmm, with everything recharging so fast in DM, is any attack a worthwhile choice? MG maybe? -
Non Tanker Has Questions since Tanker Changes
Gobbledygook replied to Gobbledygook's topic in Tanker
Thanks, @drbuzzardI appreciate the extra insight. To be clear about Praetoria, the plan was for an Inv or WP paired up with DM. That was when I remembered the buffs for the tankers. I figured since they are easier to build for survival than their melee siblings, they would be the better choice, and with the buffs, I might actually enjoy playing them. Not saying they were bad before, just they they weren't my cup of tea. As long as I have a cpl of you here, can anyone possibly explain the best place to put the ATO? Or should I just study Bopper and Sir Myshkins' work more in depth. I've gone over it a lot in the last couple of days, but honestly, I've had so many TBIs, it's hard to focus on things like this. Again, thank you all for your time. -

First, a huge thank you to @Seigmoraig for the explanation. I hadn't even thought that the buffs would affect the values in the leadership pool. That is awesome! I know it may have seemed easy to understand, but my brain doesn't always work right. To many TBI's, lol. You're right @Camel, so many Alts/Avengers to make. -
Hi all, as the title says, I'm a non tanker, well, I tried a Inv/Em riiiigght before the nerf bat murdered Em om live way back in the day, and a Fire/Fire tank before CoV was released. I've never really gotten into tanks because there damage felt, well, anemic to me. I've read through the changes that were made to tankers recently, and was wondering if someone could help break it down for me a little better. I'm just not a numbers person. Melee damage modifier increased from 0.8 to 0.95, Bruise has been removed in favour of a flat damage scale increase. Does it raise the base damage? Buff modifiers increased to match Controller values. Is this for the epic pools? Damage buff cap increased from 400% to 500%. Now this, I believe is the same damage cap for scrappers. But is it possible to reach this alone. Like with DM, SD, SS, and others that can boost their own damage? I know the cap on the AoE and cones improves their AoE damage. So theoretically, I could make a highly survivable, very damaging Fire/Fire tank? I come asking these questions because I want to understand, and also I have committed myself to starting a new toon in Praetoria. I was thinking with the changes to Tanks, I could make my new toon a tank. Thank you Tanker peeps.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. Lol, that rhymed! I've decided to go with Willpower. I have probably 5 Inv toons here on HC, and no WP ( had a few before the snap) Guess I've gotten to comfortable , to get familiar with an old friend.

I haven't played in Praetoria since it was introduced, so I figured I would roll my start my new DM toon there. Unfortunately, I decide between WP or Inv to go with it. I love both sets, just hoping for some pointers to help point me in the right direction. Thanks for looking, and any advice is appreciated.

The area where I was forcing blunt speech was in regards to your comment on Fire Melee. Do I still hold to beliefs that regen is inferior, and has to work harder and invest heavier than other sets to perform on the same level? Yes. Did I admit in this very thread, that I should probably try it now after not having done so in such a long time? Yes, I did. Possibly even twice. I do believe I even asked if anyone had a decent build for me to try out. As you point out, your playstyle fits your Doctor character, and vice versa. I don't enjoy that playstyle. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with it, everyone is entitled to play the game they think is fun. I have tried it, it's just not for me. I prefer in your face melee mayhem. As an example, I tried KM when it came out. After 12 lvls, I deleted the character, and will probably never try one again. Not until I can turn the sfx off of it. Same with Bio, the minimal fx isn't minimal enough for me. As a nurse, I see someone running down the hallway dripping purulent fluid, it makes me want to tackle them and put them in an iso-room. Mr. MRSA. -
Now I need a Phil Anselmo, Ivan Moody, (Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself), Jonny Santos, Fm/Reg Br00t named Gojira.... I love/hate you all

I have a few things that I'd like to speak on. Criticals I may be wrong, but could something be added to the inherent to where it is more than criticals, right? I know there have already been a couple of suggestions, and some have stated that raising the crit chance isn't the answer, nor is adding survivability to it, and I agree. I completely agree! As @Troo pointed out above, quoting the description of the Scrapper AT, they do damage, lots of damage. I have included the quote below, as well. What if the critical chance was left where it is, and there was a scaling buff in addition to the critical, but not +dmg like Brutes get. What about the Scrapper getting a +to hit and -res, or depending on enemy rank, or possibly even sclae with health, as that would also jive with the "Can get in over there head" part of the description. Confront I love the changes @Redlynne brought up. As someone else mentioned, this was also a whole thread of it's own so the idea definitely has merit. I know for me, I would actually take confront if this was put into effect. I am one of those Scrappers that watches teammates health bars, even if I am in a different pile of bodies, so I can save some one if they pulled to much aggro off the tank/brute. This would make getting back to them much faster. As far as what to add to it (+Dmg, chance for crit,) I'm not sure, but I won't speak on that. That's for you numbers guys and girls, like @Galaxy Brain. Regen As mentioned, regen is not totally unplayable. I think there are ways to improve it without it becoming OP though. Or course it would have to be balanced across all ATs that get it though. From the I-4 Patch Notes Reduced the amount of Regeneration Buff that can be enhanced in Instant Healing and Integration (base values were not changed) From the I-5 Patch Notes Changed Regeneration/Instant Healing from a Toggle Power to a Click power.Issue 6 was when the introduced ED (Enhancement Diversification) I propose making all of Integrations regen fully enhanceable again, instead of just 2/3s, make IH a toggle again, and adding absorb to Integration and Fast Healing. Again, I know nothing of these numbers some of you speak of. Thank you for your time though.

X-Men, are they still heroes?
Gobbledygook replied to Player2's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Captain Britain is my favorite Superman Pastiche/Flying Brick. I discovered him in the 90's run of Excalibur with Nightcrawler and Phoenix II. I thought he was cool, when I found out he was Psylockes brother, it made me more intrigued so I delved into his background more. I have also loved almost every costume he has had. I actually have a character partially based on him. Kind of an amalgamation of Captain America and Captain Britain. He was an Inv/Em tank, until he was neutered by Paragon. -

Which Is what I believe what I was trying to get to. That Regen requires all of these extra powers and heavy IO investment to perform on the same playing field as other Armor sets. Yet the statement he made to Heraclea, "Fire melee is frankly just bad in actual gameplay, fire res is very common in mobs" was false. To which Caulderone responded with a link to your guide showing it is actually the second least resisted damage type in the game. I apologize for the confusion. I have reasons, but I honestly believe that the average person doesn't care to here other peoples excuses. Which is why I mentioned in an earlier post, I tend to stay out of forum conversations and just pop in and offer the rare insight, like in the SS/StJ/debuff/Rage nerf conversation -

No, it's not, I tend to veer slightly from my point at times. I blame the meds, lol. What I failed to mention in my previous post was that Fm excels under these parameters, but even without the heavy IO investment and the incarnate power, I was still capable of putting out respectable AoE damage (Fsc and Fireball from Epp) and soloing AVs. Did it get better after I invested the time and Inf to get more? Oh, hell yeah. The point I think I was originally trying to make was contrasting his camparison of Regen to the other armor sets with FM to the other attack sets. His claim, as I understand from reading what he has typed, is that it is balanced to the other sets. However, again, as I understand, Regen needs multiple pool powers, a specific Patron Power that requires a pre requisite power, heavy IO investment, and possibly specific Incarnate power choices to be on par with other sets. Not to mention that it has 5 clicks, (Reconstruction, Dull Pain, IH, MoG, and Shadow Meld) as well as 4 toggles, (Integration, Tough, Weave, Manuevers). Now the number of click to toggles may balance out. I played for four months when I found out about HC and because of "issues" I take an extended break. Now, I am open minded person, so I'm willing to hop on Beta, and give a few hours at 50 in a sturdy build a whirl if someone has one I could try. The only reason I am hesitant about it is I don't get powerleveled. I play in PuGs for story arcs and TFs, so the actual build up to 50 is important to me, as it would probably take close to a month to get there. Hell, maybe I'm just still resentful for how badly they beat Regen into the ground back in, what was it, I-4? Wasn't that also when they introduced ED and the GDN? I digress, I'm getting off topic again. -

Gobbledygook replied to carroto's topic in General Discussion
This is false, as already shown by actual testing. I take issue with it though as it is actually my preferred choice for melee ATs'. I can solo nearly any AV in the game with it (I don't solo TFs'), It's capable of dealing significant AoE damage (with enough recharge, an epic/patron choice and incarnate AoE) Now, is it a poor choice for regen? Possibly. What's a poor choice for Invuln, DA, Bio, Rad? -

I haven't read any of it, but I do follow Newsarama and CBR, some of the articles has suggested that the cult like mentality is being questioned by some of the X-men. I don't remember particulars. It may be building to an internal conflict, I don't know. The only thing I really read is Red Hood and the Outlaws TPBs. Fortunately the first volume of the new Young Justice is out, I just have to pick it up. Drake and Kon-El are my favorite characters, besides Wolvie, of course. -

I freely admit to not playing the set more than a handful of times since it was murdered by the original Devs. I did attempt a few times, even getting into the mid 30's once. It became to much of a chore for me to play. It did give me an opportunity to play the other secondary sets though. I fell in love with /SR, /WP, and of course /INV. One of the issues I have with current regen is the fact that it needs Shadow Meld and MoG (which while the buffs were nice, they weren't in tune with what regen as a set is supposed to do, which is regenerate) to bring it up to par to other secondaries just killed it for me. Who knows, maybe I'll roll one up on the beta server and see how it does at 50. -

Thanks for the rundown on the numbers @Galaxy Brain, that's exactly what I was thinking. Not sure if it was what the OP was looking for though. Question, in your running of the numbers, did you completely remove a +Dmg +ToHit power? I may have just missed it in the explanation. -
I think it comes down to personal preference. Honestly, I've never been a fan of the monstrous feet/legs, they just look wierd to me. I prefer my anthropomophized cat people like the Thundercats and TMNT.
