I use it all the time when I am on teams as well. It causes no problems as long as it has the kb to kd IO in it. I would never use it without that IO, I wouldn't even take the power without that IO. On a team I concentrate on buffs and damage, but I'm also in melee range (right behind the tank/brute scrapper) due to how fulcrum shift works. Regardless of if you are on a team or solo the recharge boost and knockdown are quite helpful. But, yeah, repel is not worth it without that IO.

I completely disagree with your evaluation of Repel, when slotted with an Force Feedback +100% recharge proc and a kb to kd IO it becomes a very useful as a way to mitigate damage (hey, its the only thing kins get) and a great recharge boost when you are in melee range. Even if it is up only 20% of the time, that is still a 20% global recharge boost over time. This greatly helps the recharge on your damage capped nukes. Here is a DP/Kin corruptor build I made for someone a while ago, it was refined with all my knowledge of playing a kin. It has perma hasten (with FF procs in your DP powers), 68% s/l res, good E res, capped melee/ranged defense, and 1450 HP. Go water blast or another knockback blast set with kin and make sure you use repel and blast powers with FF procs (corruptor or defender, doesn't matter. Take either the spiritual or agility alpha. Now use ageless. This will make you hit the recharge cap a lot like a lot a lot. P.S. Don't actually do this unless you have some magical way of making up for your defenses being poor due to focusing on recharge.

I based this on my kintank fire/kin, but energy blast really takes things away due to the knockback. So, I just embraced it and chose the FF proc for everything instead. Preventative medicine will proc regardless of what power it is placed in. Same with miracle and numinas, but they are always on. -
The power of repel with kb to kd lies more in having an FF proc in it as well so that you get a 100% recharge buff occasionally. This allows you to keep the mobs tightly packed on you while firing off your nukes at the damage cap.

I always find that power selection is tight on just about any build I make. I'm always trying to maximize things and so power selection and slots are always scarce.

Yes, I believe so, but if you are going to roll a corruptor with dark miasma I would go fire/dark. The other dark powers are good, but they lose effectiveness when you are fighting +4x8 and so I don't typically take them. I have a very effective fire/dark corruptor that I enjoy playing.

Remember as a kin that you have transference, so even without conserve power is is sustainable. My transference is on a less than 9 second cd so you can definitely do it, but I'd only run it with conserve power or ageless. Otherwise you are spending too much time managing end and not killing things.

So, the problem with these types of solutions is that it does nothing for the people on your team who are complaining. That is what I care about. My sound/powers don't bother me, but they do bother people on my team to the point where I sometimes turn it off because it bothers them.

In the end it's just better to have both. You end up only using it on AVs and GM's, but it does make a significant difference during those fights. So take it, you most likely have the power choice.

The sound effects on repel and sonic repulsion are the worst. I really really wish that we had the option to turn off the sound effects of these powers.

Melee/range almost capped, if you want ranged capped take one slot from RoF or a defense power and use thunderstrike in blazing bolt. Soul drain and hasten are permanent with the FF procs. Most AOEs have a ranged or melee component, so I aim for both of those and just take more pure AOE hits when they rarely come up. If you want increase density earlier, I would swap out repel for it. Repel is not worth running until you at least have transference and even then I may not run it until conserve power. The endurance drain really is that significant. You can put the 3% def io in tough, just Respec when you get charged armor 5 slotted. The +resistance portion of that io is being used for a few more points of resistance. Shield wall and kismet can go wherever you like.

At 50 with a lot of investment both a corruptor and a defender can be softcapped to melee and range. The corruptors will do more damage when solo though, by just a bit due to higher base damage and scourge. So if end game is your goal I would go corruptor. However, because you mainly solo and will be leveling up this toon mostly solo, you will have a far easier time as a defender. The higher defense values will really help you before 50. Given all the information in your post about how you play. I'd go defender.

Siphon power absolutely affects the whole team (well the people next to the target and the people next to you). I do not use siphon power much after getting fulcrum shift because fulcrum shift will cap the teams damage in 1-2 uses depending on the AT. I do use it still however on AVs, GMs, and EBs.

You will always get more survivability out of a ranged/melee def build compared to an S/L/E one and so it is always preferable to go that route if possible. Resists also make a difference. Defenders should always go r/m def in my opinion. Remember that repel is not just being used to knock mobs down, it is also being used to give you a +100% recharge buff for 5 seconds per proc. Both of these things together make is very worth it. The proc is up 50-60% of the time when completely surrounded, so it is a significant increase.

Conserve power is 100% not required, it is just nice to have when running repel. Repel costs .78 end/sec + 1% end/mob knocked back/down. You'd use transference far less when conserve power is active. Siren's song is useful solo, but is not really useful at all on a team. If you are going to team more, I'd recommend the non-siren's song version I made higher up in the thread.

Taking maneuvers, tough, weave, and combat jumping really helps defenders/corruptors survive in the earlier levels. I highly recommend it.

So, the base damage of the powers are at .75 for corruptors and .65 for defenders (with blasters being 1.00, for melee powers, as the base archetype we compare everything to). Now we add in sleet and heat loss 117x1.6=187.2 and 120x1.54=184.8. So, the defender wins out by a slim margin in this case and they will have better defenses allowing you to softcap easier and get more procs/recharge in your build.
