Please read the defender guide that is stickied. Pure healers are not the most effective toons in this game. There are ways of making your entire team take only 5% of all the damage that comes at them through softcapping their defenses and you can even make their resistances skyrocket as well. Even with those methods though, your attacks are still valuable for dmg and the debuffs they provide. An empathy/Sonic blast defender can increase the damage of everyone in the party through their attacks, softcap defenses for three people, provide endless endurance to the whole team, and they can heal. The healing will be needed less and less as you level up though.

Archery is one of the few sets I've never played, so which attacks would you like in it? Or do you want me to choose based on the info in mids?

Therm/Fire is hard to make a proc build with due to the inherent lack of personal defenses, so I did not try. I went the traditional soul drain build instead. This doesn't quite have perma hasten, but heat loss and melt armor are (melt armor is 2 seconds away, but you get the -20% too). It is softcapped to melee and ranged. Take the agility alpha. I'd recommend a proc'd out storm/water. I seem to remember that this was the winner when someone was trying to make a farming defender...I know storm was the best. Water work well because it can be proc'd out, has good aoe, and can heal. Storm is an incredibly damaging primary for defenders.

Sorry, I thought I'd answered this. I'll update this with a build in the morning. I think I have a water/poison build, but if not I'll build you one. I won't forget again. Edit: ok I'm not very happy with this because I couldn't quite get to the ranged softcap while keeping perma hasten and the one super cool thing you can do with poison, which is to six slot poison trap with damage procs. Anyway, you'll have perma hasten with FF recharge procs and melee softcap with venomous gas even against +4s as long as you have the T3 agility alpha. True, I forgot to mention that with entangling aura running with a lockdown proc in it that occasionally even bosses will be held.
-
So, the DPS on sweeping cross is actually superior to crushing uppercut. I'm hoping that this changes with three combo levels, but otherwise I see very little reason to take crushing uppercut at all other than set bonuses and procs. It is higher DPA so using it during a gaussian proc window might make sense, but otherwise it doesn't seem worth it. You see this in some other melee sets sometimes. For instance greater fire sword is less dps than scorch, incinerate, or cremate and so I never take it. It's really disappointing for a T9. Here is the whirlwind build, I looked at it again and I did manage to find the missing energy/negative defense. I took body mastery instead of blaze in order to get conserve power and physical perfection so that the recovery would be enough to run whirlwind...maybe...I'm not sure its enough, but I'm hopeful. Whirlwind fun: If you end up making this whirlwind version please let me know what server you play on because I want to see it in action...I think it'd be hilarious.
-
I made this in another thread and out of the secondary versions to pair with nature, I like this the best: nature/water Essentially water works great because you get some very nice FF proc opportunities that allow you to have overgrowth up permanently. This has softcapped melee/ranged defense and hardcapped s/l res with plenty of other resistances to boot.
-
And sometimes that six-slotted brawl gets you the 3.75% melee/ranged defense you need to hit the softcap and so its the best option you have on a tight build, ^_- You will never break a character into being unusable, unless you really try to by skipping all your primary and secondary powers or something similarly crazy.
-
Just for you @SmalltalkJava. This is my first attempt at this. I went agility alpha for the extra recharge and more defense. This has softcapped defenses to everything but psionic, max s/l resistance, full ST and AOE attack chains with finishers, and melt armor with an Achilles proc in order to help the team just a little. The amount HP regen and recharge could be better, but I honestly would be amazed if you find a way to die on this outside of psionic damage and even then one purple will get you pretty close to the softcap. I'm confident that hasten will be perma after one FF proc and that only needs to happen once in two minutes and it has a decent chance of happening in crushing uppercut. I'm going to try to go musculature with the next attempt and see what happens. Willpower is a pretty overpowered set when you combine it with IOs. Edit: I abandoned the musculature route because I just didnt like the numbers I got compared to this. I also made a whirlwind version because it is always funny to me, but I took body mastery for more end recov to make it "work," but then I couldn't find a place to get the extra energy/negative defense I lost from losing char.
-
Its hard to rate empathy as tier one when you have a things like a time defenders using clarion+power boost+farsight to fully softcap your entire team and ratcheting up their recharge with chronoshift. As Auroxis has mentioned it is quite good when paired with sonic blast though. I'd generally rate it tier 2 myself and reserve tier three for more trouble prone sets, but I'm not the author. /shrug

How about I just give you a build with all the powers you wanted with ranged/melee defense softcapped, hardcapped s/l resistance, perma hasten, and near perma soul drain instead? Version 1 this has more recharge and goes the more sane route of taking dark consumption. You can keep yourself healed with life drain alone, you'll be fine. You have maxed s/l res. Build: Version 2 loses some recharge but takes oppressive gloom to stack with dark pit in order to stun bosses....and is hilarious. I'm not sure you can solo with this and keep your HP up due to oppressive gloom's HP drain, but it sure would be funny to try. Feel free to replace the endurance reduction IO with a -recharge proc in weaken if you want, its proc chance won't be stellar, but its something.
-
@plainguyI think I just solved your melee defense problem. Bit of a necro post, but meh. It involves not taking executioner's shot, but you might be able to rework it in by juggling some things. Edit: It is possible.

Ok, I couldn't find it. So, I made this for you instead. I did not take executioner's shot as you specified. This has softcapped melee and ranged defense, perma hasten with a single FF proc from empty clips, hail of bullets, or repel, 68% s/l res, and 45% energy res. You lose some global recharge compared to your build, but the FF procs in hail of bullets, repel, and empty clips will make you have far more total global recharge in practice. Make sure you take the agility alpha, musculature does very little for a kin and agility is more useful than spiritual. I'd also recommend either the clarion core or ageless core destiny abilities. Oh, and use the +5s where I have them. They are important, with the exception of swift and hurdle.
-
With kinetics if all around defense is your goal it is better to go with the ranged/melee defense and the Mu resist shield. This will make you far tankier. Also, I really really like the Force Feedback recharge proc in repel. When you are fully surrounded it goes off a lot. Here is a proc'd out build I made when I was testing procs back in June. It has the FF recharge proc pretty much all the time and s/l/e defense softcapped and s/l res capped when rune of protection is up. You can farm with this, but in the end it was not as damaging as my fire/kin even with all the procs, so I wound up being disappointed. You will definitely want to use ageless with it if you go this route. In terms of your build, I went with a similar approach back when I was developing Kintank fire/kin build, but there are some more efficient things you can do. You can swap out boxing for combat jumping with a +5 LoTG recharge IO gettting you more defense to all and 7.5% recharge. This will save you 3 slots and if you wanted you could still use brawl with kinetic melee, but a better thing to do would be to add one slot to kick and use the superior blistering cold set to give you 5% s/l defense. This would free up even more slots. You will also get more out of tactics with two Cytoskeleton Hamis (if money is no object, which it looks like it isn't from your build, use +2s). You can actually get softcapped s/l defense without scorpion shield, allowing you to cap both s/l def and s/l res, but then your other defenses suffer. For overall content though, I would recommend going either ranged/melee defense or s/l/e with mace shield and rune of protection. It works out better overall. I think I have a ranged/melee defense DP/Kin build somewhere. Let me see if I can locate it for you.
-
And this is something to build toward. I avoided purple sets with the exception of the superior ATOs. This has perma chronoshift with some major healing in it. With a power boosted farsight you will be sitting at 44.4% to ranged and melee attacks. With more money there are easier ways to do all of this and also easier ways to fit everything in without recall friend, but I think this is the best defenses and recharge I can do without more money or more power choices. Maybe if I stared at it for longer, but I've spent enough time on this for now. Ok, so I tried my best to fit this in a 30 mil budget and only use lvl 40 IOs. Pay attention to when I added the slots as I was trying to get you a fully functional build that you can buy and slot right now. I'll add another build for when you are 50 and can work towards it. At lvl 41 you should have around 32-33% defense with power boost+farsight and this is within one purple inspiration of the softcap. You should be pretty close most of the time anyway due to the debuffs from your dark powers. I find distortion field to be very endurance intensive and with hasten and chrono shift you are already firing off your damaging attacks very regularly and so endurance management is very important before 50 IO sets. Even at fifty endurance can be a problem for time due to the incredibly quick recharge of your powers and running time's juncture, maneuvers, tough, weave, dark embrace, etc. Remember to always use power boost and then farsight.
-
So there are now enhancement boosters that used to only be available in the real money shop on live I think? Anyway, you can now buy them for merits or on the AH for around 1.2-2 million. You apply them in the enhancement screen like you used to combine enhancements. You can only apply them to normal crafted enhancements and not the attuned versions, but you can always apply them to normal IOs. In the build I sent you, I used +5s on the recharge IOs, LotG enhancements, Performance Shifter end mod, the heal IOs, and the accuracy IO. You apply them one at a time, so you'll need 70 for the build I sent you to complete it.
-
No, I'm afraid all I have to offer is more silliness. Haha. First, you should be proud of that build you made. You got to 200% and did not have a single overlapping set bonus and with the powers and slotting choices you made it is perfectly playable. It would play well in fact. You aren't going to be running into +4x8 mobs solo, but most content I think this could handle very well. Truly, good job. The problem is that overgrowth is still not perma lol. So, let the silliness commence. All you have to do to get overgrowth to perma with that build is to +5 the recharge reduction IOs in overgrowth and take the spiritual alpha. All the other options I can see would entail messing with your resists and if perma overgrowth is the only goal, then we've achieved it. Now, there is an even sillier option and its called whirlwind. This would require you to have mobs around you to proc a FF recharge proc that gives you +100% global recharge for 5 seconds. In order to continually run this monstrosity of a power we will need to use the ageless core epiphany destiny incarnate power in conjuncation with it. As a bonus this also gives us some global recharge as well (maybe 30% over the two minutes its active? I'm not sure of the averages). If we go back to the original build I gave you, we can swap out whirlwind for combat jumping and put in a sudden acceleration kb to kd io and an FF recharge proc in whirlwind. With the ageless destiny and the occasional FF proc I think overgrowth should be perma. This requires you to have mobs around you in order to get the proc though.....and yeah you'll look silly running whirlwind. Honestly, having fantastic defenses+damage and being only 12 seconds away from perma overgrowth is totally worth those 12 seconds in my opinion. The only other viable options I can think of is with a different secondary like Dual Pistols or Water Blast to get the reliable Force Feedback procs in powers like geyser. On a team, hopefully one other person out of 8 will have a speed boost/siphon or a chrono shift to help you out.

Sure, I can help with that. May I know a general price range? Should I only use lvl 25 or 30 IOs? Or do I get to go wild with attuned IOs and ATOs? Also, are any travel powers thematic for the character? Oh! Can I choose any epic power pool or do you have something in mind? The two most powerful power pools for /time are soul and dark mastery. Soul mastery gives you power boost which you can use in conjunction with farsight to give your whole team about 22% defense to all, but it comes with a soul drain at about twice the recharge so it cannot be perma'd. Dark mastery does not give you power boost and so farsight will give around 15% defense to all which is still very good and it comes with soul drain that you can perma.

I am very aware of how procable infigidate is. The most Dmg you can get out of it is 3 dmg procs for 215.25 dmg with a -20% res proc at a 1.188 sec cast time (arcana time). Don't get me wrong, those are some very very good numbers, but with a fully saturated soul drain water jet and dehydrate will beat that. Still, you do need 3 attacks with this much recharge on this build, so you use aqua bolt too, which even with soul drain will be beat by a proc'd out infrigidate. So infrigidate certainly wins with just soul drain, but if you are running at the dmg cap (a.k.a running with a kin) then aqua bolt will win with a dmg of 244.85. All of this is kind of besides the point though, but I did mention that I typically play this when someone else is playing a kin. The real problem for a corruptor lies in getting enough positional defense, global recharge, resists, heals, and dmg buffs to feel self sustainable when taking alpha strikes at +4x8. Using 6 slots in aqua bolt, an attack that I will use in my normal ST attack chain, is an efficient way to get 3.75% toward the ranged defense softcap. If you wish to use those slots in infrigidate, then by all means do it. For me, the difference between an almost softcapped character and a softcapped character is drastic at +4x8, especially when exemplared. Essentially, the reason I didn't use infrigidate in my ST attack chain is because I could not spare the slots/powers and also I could not use it with the agility alpha. The agility alpha rounds out the edges of this build very nicely and I need it to have enough recharge and defense. Sadly, the agility alpha wrecks the proc chance of powers with lower base recharges. Strangely, the FF proc in water burst does proc quite frequently, but I think that has to do with the amount of targets it hits. Most corruptor builds have a hard time proccing their attacks while keeping enough global recharge and defense, a notable exception to this is /time, but that is an exception and not the rule. I did consider a defender and going the proc route, but I still needed to use water blast for the good AOE powers and the heal. So I couldn't use the proc friendly ice primary or any other really (dark is ok with life siphon, but it lacks anything like fireball/water burst for AOE and with water I get an FF proc out of it). Water blast is an OK proc set with the benefit of getting some FF procs (just not DP levels). Then I needed to get all the defenses and global recharge I would need, in the end this build was better due to the higher dmg numbers it puts out with soul drain and aim or while on a team with buffs. I just realized I may be way overanswering your post directing me to Redlynne's post. I am going to stop here by saying "yes, I read that post and the other one discussing the build that inspired him to post that one." Sorry if this is too long-winded.
