I am running every contact red/blue/gold right now on a single character. I have done this pure redside a few times over the years. As has been said upthread, yes and no. There are story arcs, plotlines, things to be discovered. There are themes and over acrching plots that tie things together. And break things apart. While not as complex as the 'real' world there is enough volume and depth for CoH/V to beyond any one culture or plotline. Or many. Each Event, Zone, Story Arc and contact is it's own thing, and usually borrowing and expending on other Events, Zones, Story Arcs and contacts.

lol. no. i was told long ago back on live that 3 or less Kb prot is meh, 4 is good. 4-7 is about the same. 8 is slightly better than 4. 8-11 is practically the same. 12 is better yet. No. i do not have the data.
-
devils advocate 3 pts of KB prot is meh. 4 is good, 3 just aint. -res is great. if you use a commonly resisted damage type. or fight AVs a lot. otherwise.... the slot might be better used chasing 'real' set bonuses.

Now that ASF went live, what do you think of it?
Snarky replied to Albion's topic in General Discussion
Ah, this was my misunderstanding. Thank you. As a lazy PUG specialist I have only done one run on Beta. yeesh. just, yeesh. very cool, very overwhelming. Since there are no badges gated to the hardest settings a PUG, in theory at least, should be able to bumble through on a good run and get some badges, adding multiple runs until you get a master badge. fair enough. the hard hard super hard challenges reward cash and prizes for the hard core maniacs. Which....honestly I doubt I will ever run on. I have in game wealth and absolutely HATE things like the AE 801 arcs. I am a super villain not a chew toy. I still feel this would be better served up as two installments, Apex/Tin Mage style. But, as long as all badges are available (abd relatively achievable) without insane settings my objections are respectfully withdrawn. Quality work. Seriously. And on closer inspection at the badge/reward/difficulty sliders wisely done as well. -

Snarky replied to Albion's topic in General Discussion
No, i get it. If there were no badges for the insanely difficult way I would withdraw my complaint. Give more rewards. whatever. But a badge? EVERYONE deserves a chance at the badge. But the badge is gated behind knowing 7 people who are very good and have two hours to kill. Anybody else see an issue with this? No? Then you know 7 strong players with two hours to kill. PUG players are screwed here. The badge is out of reach. Split into 3 and award the badge for completion of all 3 parts. PUGging it would be tough, but doable, after a few misses and various teams. But all one run? Will rarely happen at best. -

My non tanky reg Brute Dark Dark has 56% energy and 51% toxic resist. not perfect but ....usually...enough to let me get that big heal to fire. There are some hallways it will not save you in, granted. -
Thanks Chelsea Due to concept ( i know its not practical) I will switch out taser for time bomb. other than that this is ecactly what i was looking for.

Now that ASF went live, what do you think of it?
Snarky replied to Albion's topic in General Discussion
So they added a TF to the game which is specifically not for PUG groups. ....just....danged.....really? Split the thing into 2-3 parts. At least you will have a crapshot run with a PUG of getting something -

Snarky replied to Albion's topic in General Discussion
On a serious note all those things existed on live but I did not use them. I did not know them. I did not trust them. I did what i knew how to do. PUG content. Writing for the best gamers and doing it well deserves respect. These Devs have my respect. For that. They did a fantastic job Writing and publishing something that is akin to building a network of freeways in a busy city that only work well if every driver knows exactly what they are doing two miles in advance and is respectful of other drivers right of way is not good. I have to say I am taking a look at this and seeing traffic accidents ahead. A lot of really bad accidents. -

Snarky replied to Albion's topic in General Discussion
sure. we race the itf for 11-14 minute runs weekly. top time is 4-7 minutes? something like that. that is not normal. that is not "forming Dr. Q try for speed" in LFG. that is not "aeon Relentless Badge run try for speed" in LFG. If badges were not attached (you get the badge for ITF for a 5 min run) then your point would be valid. But if you are a PUG player (as I was for a many many years) if you want those badges you are screwed. I still remember an Old Posi from live that disintegrated. I was trying to finish solo on a Blaster and kept trying to snipe the EB and escape down the elevator. sad. failure. The Devs have created a new petri dish for many of these types of events to form. -

27 minutes? i saw (and listened on Discord) to a high end SG take an hour and a half on the mode up from easiest. these were dialed in people with long running badger toons. then the thing glitched on one badge and they headed in for a second round. but PUGs can do it in 27 minutes? sure, okay. i believe you. of course. you're a DEV. -

Snarky replied to Albion's topic in General Discussion
Why they did not split this into two And give the master badge for completion of both parts I will never know. While the work on this issue was exemplary and the execution of the content was beautiful the lack of learning of lessons from CoH past…..just sad. Know your own history. Stop making mistakes of past Dev teams that have to be fixed later. No one wants a four hour event. No one. I am half terrified the Devs will make a no travel power badge for Dr Q based on the development concepts implemented in the Aeon. Again, incredible work. Too much for one sitting. Old Positron with Christmas lights and presents galore. -

I run a LOT of Dark armor. If this thing was EARTH SHATTERING LIFE CHANGING I would have it on all my builds. I use it once in a while on mid level builds. it does not make the cut on final builds. But sure, alter the entre system because this PROC might help Dark Armor where it is struggling the most. Have a ball. -
So aside from the explosive diarrhea graphics… How does Earth play? What range is it ‘comfortable’ at. What does it fo well? What do you wish it dud better?

Suprising Solution to Dark Armor Endurance Management
Snarky replied to cfarevival's topic in Tanker
actually this proc (theft of essence) is working exactly as intended. nerfing PROC builds and nerfing PROCs has everything to do with slotting every PROC possible for damage onto a build to the point that the underlying sets become unimportant and just a vehicle for game mechanics. -
ding ding ding. thanks. i have it in stealth....which i did not have on first thing in the morning (brute) i already botched making coffee this morning. fill coffee maker with purified water. not quite enough. refill purifier. except i just sleepily poured in coffee maker on return from sink. sigh. overflow. now this. that does answer whether i should leave stealth on though. thanks.

Lol. I literally have zero proc builds. I slot procs when they occur naturally in set bonuses and such. So yes, according to the infinite absurdity of the universe this would cause the nerfing of procs -
Suprising Solution to Dark Armor Endurance Management
Snarky replied to cfarevival's topic in Tanker
Dark Consumption has two uses in a late game build I have found. 1) an extremely powerful “o crap this mechanic has screwed my blue bar” fix, and 2) a great ghetto PBAoE damage, especially with a knockdown proc in it. Crowd control? Works like a charm -
Rad Armor/Energy Melee would be my choice if I was walking into the game fresh right now. Knowing all i know and not locked into concepts and projects with deep history Rad Armor is very strong and very effective. I have not played it but the people I respect most point straight to it when asked what is the best armor. Energy Melee, since the change, is no doubt the smoothest and most effective set that I see. I have played it to 50. It rocks. The combo would be mad strong and I could make some robot characters with a great look and theme so easy. personally i am on Dark/Dark and Dark/Invul Brutes right now. Vampire storyline. Both those combos are insanely strong and I have them 50d on Tanks as well with the sets flipped. Dark/Dark instead of Dark/Dark. Invul/Dark Tank with a high recharge build is a juggernaut that, in my opinion, is less killable than a Granite Tank Damned light on AoE but tanky as can be and very strong against hard targets. The -to hit and heals/end recovery in Dark Melee along with (in my opinion) the best melee build up in the game pairs so well with Invul that i cannot resist going back to it.
-
I am currently soloing the game (every contact red/blue/gold) on a dark/invul Brute. I have two nearly identical builds slotted at 29. The one difference (and sole reason for two builds) is one has Stealth and the other has Taunt. Stealth, with Taunt aura off, allows me to quickly finish most solo missions. When I jump into a Task Force for badges or companionship I rotate in Taunt. I never used to take Taunt on Brutes but I am getting lazier as I get older and Blasters are getting crazier. Taunt lets me control a lot of the action fast in team play. But with no competition soloing PvE there is very little reason to throw a power pick at it. I can pull with P2W Blackwand solo.
-
I am only 50ing rarely now. But i play a lot. So i just email the rare new 50 a few hundred emps. Faster than shards by a little bit
-
As with everything in life, unlife, and gaming… it depends. If you will not use it the answer is obvious. For you. While I know many hardcore gamers who want to do the hardest content in the most extreme way….. I also am quite familiar with PUG groups who just want to bumble through on easy mode. We have a lot of both on the CoH fan base personally I am more of a bumbler. Give me more powers (that I grind for) and then let me destroy the city. Good times. If you want to save the city using two sticks and a rubber band have fun Mcgyver 🤪 But I know you have found things that you enjoy, whether it be fine tuning a market strategy or completing a master run with an SO toon. I believe the expanded options (and badges/rewards) are a great step forward in a positive direction for the city now, with all these Heroes so busy there surely must be a way to get control of the Hospital blood supply chain…
