Razor Cure Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Anyone who has done the missions with NPC Penny Yin (maria's arc/sig story arc 5 or 6) will know how utterly awesome her powerset looks! Sorta like a mind/ill/grav mash up, that makes funny noises and kicks ass. Mind COntrol is still teh only control set with no pet. Of course some would argue it doesnt need one, especially with Confuse, bit Ill has confuse, and 2 pets and one pseudo pet. Plant COntrol (i know this from recently maknig a plant troller) also has SoC, that utterly and completely smashes and confusing that a Mind'r can do..and would be even more amazing on a Dom. I think Mind Control would be cool with a similar pet to what Penny has..damage/hold maybe a heal. I am sure some people totally love MassCon and dont want a change so.. Psionic Control! A new set based on what she has? As an aside, Mind's aoe confuse falls way way short of SoC. To make up for that..give the ST confuse a small aoe (maybe 3-5 targets) with the aoe unaffected by Domination or ctitical control.
Vanden Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Unfortunately, Seeds of Confusion is just way too good. Whoever designed it was clearly under the impression that Confuse is a weaker control type than Hold, rather than a stronger one. Anything done to address the disparity between SoC and Mass Confusion is going to have to be a nerf to SoC, and everyone hates nerfs. You can't really make a control set based on Penelope Yin's signature powers, because she doesn't actually have any signature control powers. All her moves are attacks. I'm not sure she even has any control powers at all. Ultimately, I think the best way to buff Mind Control is to increase the damage on Levitate, Mesmerize, and Dominate, to make up for the lost damage potential from a pet. 2 A Cheat Sheet for efficient Endurance Recovery slotting Invention Set Designer Tool Spreadsheet with every Ancillary Power Pool
Lost Ninja Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 The oddity of mind control IMO is that it does less damage to robots (including psychic clockwork). I think the only buff it really needs is for confusion to count toward containment. With that you wouldn't need to confuse and then control to get extra damage. Also reduce/remove the difficulty in damaging robots... I'm literally tearing them apart with my mind... 😄 2

Bossk_Hogg Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 I think having mind's sleeps reapply similar to electric control, having confuse count for containment, and lowering mass confuse's recharge to 180 seconds would go a long way. 3
MUPlayer Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Mind was one of the original control sets and the devs were afraid it was OP, even back then. I remember when you used to get full exp when confused enemies defeated someone! Since then, other control sets have surpassed it in control and overall utility. Here are my thoughts on how to make it better: Mesmerize and Mass Hypnosis - If the effect is broken before it normally wears off, all of the target's abilities are on a 7 sec cooldown. It's similar to temporarily being out of endurance. The explanation? The target was in a temporary coma the body needs to readjust. Telekinesis - instead of a repel and hold, make this a wide cone immobilize with a -tohit. The user has temporarily taken control of the synapses of affected target, preventing them moving and making it hard to focus Confuse - to make if different than illusion's, this now causes the target to fall repeatedly, similar to ice patch (and same duration) but only for the target. Call it Neural Misfire? Terrorize - This is now a mobile pet. In addition to its current fear cone, it will have a single target mesmerize. It'll function like Voltaic Sentinel; can't be targeted but doesn't last long Thoughts?
Call Me Awesome Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I had a 50 Mind/Kin back before shutdown. In the early going it was good with a lot of damage making it a leading set in the early game. Once you got into the 20's it started to slow down and by the time other sets matured it was at the back of the pack. Not bad, but definitely lower tier than the frontrunners, it peaked early and low. With Containment the set dropped even farther back as it had very few ways to benefit. No immobilize and poor hard control outside of Confuse left me playing a Kinetic with a few control tricks. Not useless by any means, but certainly not in the same league as Ill, Fire, Plant and the like. As we all know sleeps have very limited value, particularly in the current fast paced game. I'd suggest adding an immobilize ability to the sleeps when they're broken early, it should be short duration but it would make them useful and provide containment. I'd also echo the suggestion to have Confuse also provide containment. Guardian Survivor, occasional tanker and player of most AT's. Guides: Invulnerability Tankers, The first 20 levels. Honestly, given the changes to the game (greater individual surviability and faster enemy defeats), I wish we could take a look at all the very long recharge control powers. Control doesn't have the value it used to when using a nuke left a blaster very vulnerable. 1
AgentForest Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 You know how Super Reflexes for Sentinels has two "[insert word here] Brawler" powers, which are mutually exclusive? If you pick Practiced Brawler, you can't take the other one, and vice versa. What if that was implemented for Mind Control's Tier-9 power? Add a pet option for people who aren't huge fans of confusion mechanics, or like more standard Controller gameplay. This would let people still build Mind Control characters as they always have, but also give the option for a pet build.
MTeague Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Confuses are my favorite powers in the game, bar none. Do NOT take away my existing toys. Make a new set, sure, but keep Mind's Confuses in place. (although I'd happily have lowered cooldown on Mass Confuse to be on the same order of magnitude as Seeds of Confusion....) Roster: MTeague's characters: The Good, The Bad, and The Gold
Tugzug Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 So I actually just got a mind Dominator to 50 and I'm already rolling up another because I honestly love the set. I wouldn't want too many sweeping changes to it, but it definitely could use a little sprucing up... First things first, I'm not a huge fan of the 80% base accuracy of AoE mezzes. I get the original intent, but I feel like that's archaic design choice. Secondly, this might be a hot take but I would actually prefer Mesmerize to deal ZERO damage, and trigger no aggro. Controllers can't overpower bosses as readily as Dominators can, and the damage from Mesmerize breaks the sleep from Mass Hypnosis, preventing the ability to stack those. I'm 99% sure that this change will not happen though, but if it does then other powers in the set might need more damage to compensate. Finally, Telekinesis needs... honestly it needs a full discussion entirely devoted to itself. There's so many ways to make this power better and I have no idea which one is best, but it's definitely not the way it currently is. I'm kind of against Mind Control getting pets. Illusion is unique in its emphasis on pets, and I'd like Mind to stay unique as well--it just could use a bit of love to make it better at what it's good at. As it stands it's way more attractive to Dominators than Controllers. Maybe include more mezzes like Confuse to Containment?
Uruare Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 I think Mind on a controller would be spruced up nicely by reducing the cooldown on Mass Dom and Mass Confusion, and making Cofusion effects initiate Containment. Also, Sleep may be the most perfectly useless status effect in the game while teaming. On my min/kin troller, Mass Sleep has two uses for me; muling an IO set and proc'ing Containment. The status effect itself could be removed from the power completely and, frankly, it'd probably take me forever to even notice because its virtually useless and negated immediately anyway, and because I'm not a masochist, I never solo on the min/kin so I'd never notice that way either. Being able to throw out Mass Domination and Mass Confusions is great for turning packs of mobs into helpless cannon fodder for teams, but that's pretty much the end of Mind Control's usefulness in any real or practical sense. Containment from Mesmerize/Mass Sleep will only be of use to yourself, and you're going to be doing very little useful damage even with it. I love the ideas demonstrated in Mind Control. I mained a min/kin on live for many years and recreated her on here for nostalgia's sake, which is all of why I say, with completely comfortable familiarity, that Mind Control, as it is, is one of those sets you play because you like the idea. Don't ever expect it to do anything anyone needs. You will never have a necessary role. You won't even be better at Mind Controlling things than various other sets. And don't expect that to change. Play it because you like the idea of it as it is. When you're tired of being a novelty item, rip out an ill/rad, ill/kin, fire/kin or plant/anything and go actually be useful.
