Time for a new brute

Xandyr

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I normally play Tanks, and have decided it's time for a brute. My main tank is Bio/Rad, and my secondary tank is Rad/Spines. I've also done DA/MA and DA/TW. Knowing that I favor tanks, obviously survivability is a huge factor. With either of my main tanks, I never have to worry about my health. I love high defense, high resists, and high HP/Regen 😁

I've kinda always wanted an Electric Armor toon (I'm a fan of damage auras). So, I figured instead of a tank, I would go with a brute.

My top 2 primary choices are either Claws or Mace. I thought for a bit about Katana (+defense would be nice) but the numbers favor Claws or Mace. Mace would help with the potential stuns, but I haven't played Mace (or Claws) since like Issue 4.

I could be persuaded to make another Radiation Armor toon. But like I said, I've never played an Electric Armor toon.

So, all you Brutes, sell me on a good toon. Claws/Electric

Mace/Electric

Something else?

Thanks in advance!

Electric Armor easily caps energy damage resistance (iTrials) but lacking any +def (even 3% from /Dark Armour) makes it that much harder to softcap S/L defense.  With your experience tanking, you may already realize it's not necessary to softcap 45% S/L, therefore, 40% is likely acceptable.

If it is....

TW/Electric Armor will work nicely because of EA's increased recharge and click-Endurance gain.

Spines/Electric Armor will allow for passive-aggressive damage auras + general AOE damage.

Radiation Melee/Electric Armor will work nicely for AOE damage (set and forget) aggro tanking/farming methods

Lastly, if you want bigger numbers and enjoy living at the edge of your seat, do the same builds, but Scrapper.

MA/Bio. Easier slotting thanks to Storm Kick allows shenanigans usually forbidden to /Bio's tight slotting. Also, it hits hard as a train.

I made a Kinetic/willpower brute based on Roshi but called it Mertle Hermit to avoid getting genericed.  With the Fury changes last patch it made Kinetic Melee viable for brutes

Timing Repulsing Torrent with Jumping to land before the wave of Ki hits the enemies feels nice and Burst while all that is happening feels great.  Slot Torrent as such:

Posi Blast 5/6, skip dmg/end and use Overwhelming Force: KB to KD in the last slot.

Ki powered attacks

A mini kamehameha and a super one and then an epic power pool kamehameha this character feels fucking nice.  and being an 7.5ft muscle amazon also helps.

I didnt read the OP post btw sorry if you had something else in mind.

I only got /rad to 29 so I can't comment too much. It can be clicky. I haven't played WM, but the animations and rep for the set are really good. I absolutely love Claws and Claws/elec is one of the more popular combos. I would probably make one if I hadn't done Claws twice to 50 already.

I enjoyed a Radiation Melee/Electric Armor brute so much that I eventually made her the character who does what limited badge collecting I do.  Radiation Melee is kind of like Dark Melee's red headed stepsister.  You can't rely on the self-heal, but you're spreading debuffs around.  But it kind of works like a Spines/Fire: all you have to do is show up and stuff dies around you.  While being tougher out of the box than Fire to boot.  This will be a long hard slog to get to 35, when Power Sink makes it a lot easier to play.

Update. I got a WM/bio scrapper to 18 and a Kat/elec brute to 23. WM is a bit slow for my taste, as in the attack chain needs to wait for 26+ for it to smooth out. Damage itself is very good. More so depending if I am in OA, so if you don't mind the slower development of the build, then I can see WH being worth looking into. Lightning Reflexes certainly would help WH's attack chain. Kat/elec has been near perfect glee though. Getting enhancements at 22 helped a lot as I could bleed end, but Kat's attack chain is tight which helps build fury, add in Lightning Reflexes for +recharge and +running speed, and I've found it to be incredibly fun. Again, I did Claws to 50 twice so I'm not busting tail to make a Claws/elec, but damn that would be fun as I've never done Claws with a set which gives it +recharge.

FYI, I've done Kat to 50 on Live with a Kat/sr which I really did like so I know what to expect. It's just the playing it again after a number of years and being reminded just how smooth it is out of the box.

This is my Tanker version of Elec/Kat.  You can just as easily swap it over for the Brute version as well.

Thanks. I think one of the things I am wondering about is skipping the tank default attack and working the attack chain around the other attacks since it certainly feels like I could get by with one less attack, but that obviously changes how the bonuses play out. I'm also aware I could still take it, but simply not use it if the attack chain works out that way. There is also the issue of what other power I would take in its place. Factor in Hasten being in the build so I figure that default attack doesn't get used much unless you exempt down.
