I would like to thank Camel for once again feeding my alt-itis. I was casually reading through the forums while I was #2 ing and then BOOM... now I realize I need some CRUNCH in my life. I feel a void in me that needs to be filled.

 

How much Inf will I be a spending on this one?

Well, had been wanting to do energy melee on a tanker after seeing Sir Myshkin got some decent damage out of it with procs, but not paired with Invuln. I already follow @Camel's guide for a fire/dark controller that's fun, so here I've gone and rolled a FA/EM tanker to try this guide as well. 😄

It’s expensive, definitely. I haven’t played in two months as I’ve been working the fires in California, Washington, Oregon, etc. It isn’t a cheap build, but it also isn’t the most expensive. With a combination of merits and inf... expect to spend about 200-300 mill. More so if you don’t use any type of merits for the expensive IOs.

Glad you enjoyed my Fire/Dark Controller! I consider that Controller one of my most powerful builds. He’s always the first into the fray so I can set up my goodies for the team, he’s almost more of a Tank than my Tanks!

This was one of my favorite characters before the buff, but with the EM changes it's even better now. Hoo boy. Highly recommend FA/EM post buff.

I've been digging into a build to resurrect my old Fire/EM from live, and have drawn some inspiration from Camel's foundation.

 

After playing with the EM buffs to level 47 so far, I've decided that Power Crash is pretty okay, but I'd rather have an epic AoE in the rotation for easy firing when standing in the middle of a crowd. Proccy Dark Obliteration is also a much more powerful attack. Burn and whirling hands don't feel like enough on their own, especially with a fairly low recharge build such as I have come to.

 

I'd really appreciate any nitpicking you kind folks may see to be done on this! 

 

I hit S/L softcap, and somewhat redundantly softcap for melee as well. With no strong base to work off, I can't find a way to keep S/L softcap and pursue any useful amount of ranged defense without severely borking the power of my attacks.

 

Like Camel, I'm a bit overslotted for S/L resist, especially accounting for ATO procs. I'd also love to find a way to get closer to perma hasten, and do all this without sacrificing softcap defenses. I would happily sacrifice melee softcap if need be - it is purely incidental. 

 

I'm also just a little shy of my ideal accuracy slotting on some powers, lacking strong global bonuses from purple sets. I'm hoping Kismet will do enough to bridge the gap. In any case, I keep banging my head on it, and this is what I end up with. I don't feel quite satisfied with it - mostly due to the weak global recharge. The goal I had in mind was at least 70% global recharge and/or somehow finding a way to get ranged defense to at least 33.

I've iterated a lot on this build, and have optimized the slotting a bit. No more muling brawl! Unfortunately, I've even lost a smidge of recharge in the process, in return for some underslotted powers like consume getting a little love, while maintaining my S/L softcap.

 

In the process, I found some extra slots, and was able to drop RoP in favor of tactics (I really like the PM proc - RoP was just a free slot for it). 

 

I'm still not close to my recharge goals, but overall accuracy is much better with the addition of tactics. I'm not sure what else I can do to push recharge at this point without sacrificing softcap S/L!

I really should have taken this advice last year, but then I'd be missing out on doing it now!

Are these builds still good? Any new tweaks?

Nothing has changed. I'm actually running this as a Brute as we speak. Level 49. As usual the same trade-off. More damage and also more squishy. But still decent with 45% and 90% to S/L (with Barrier) but down to something like 64%-ish (with Barrier) to E/N. It's the hole I could not patch for a Brute. The Tanker has it at 90%.

I just found this post and I am super intrigued by this guide, but running Mids 3.1.2.5 none of your builds open. If you are still playing and have time can you repost your Fire aura EM tank build for the new Mids?

A bit of necroposting, but worth it in my opinion.

 

Found this build while trying to find idea for something else that I can't even recall now. Been greatly enjoying playing it and would like to thank Camel for sharing it with all of us. So far I've taken it on a standard Aeon SF run without any support on the team and was very much surprised to have been able to give my wakies away to other teammates and an ITF where I can't really say much of the performance due to the amazing support on the team, but the killing power seemed only second to the MF's Warshade we had.

 

Very much looking forward to taking the build through more content.

I had the great fun and fortune of teaming with Camel on an ITF today and came back looking for this thread. Here's the build recreated in Mid's 3.1.2.5. It's a good build, he was gnarly and Smashing everything!  I thought I was doing all right with a full Soul Drain-buffed SR/DM, but I'd have to punch things twice that he'd punch once.

I had the great fun and fortune of teaming with Camel on an ITF today and came back looking for this thread. Here's the build recreated in Mid's 3.1.2.5. It's a good build, he was gnarly and Smashing everything!  I thought I was doing all right with a full Soul Drain-buffed SR/DM, but I'd have to punch things twice that he'd punch once.

Fire/EM does seem like quite the synergistic pair. Covering each other’s weaknesses a bit. So much destruction.
