History question - story arc rewards

Anyone remember what the reward for story arcs was before they added merit rewards? I distinctly remember the first time I finished a story arc, and the game offered me... something as a reward. This would've been back in issue 3.

Random SO, if I recall.

If I remember, the usual reward for a story arc was a random, but usually easy to use (damage, endredux, accuracy, heal, etc), SO that matched your level and origin, plus the exp/inf bonus that still exists.  I don't believe you got SOs before 20 though, and earlier arcs awareded a TO below 10 or a DO below 20.

Yeah, given the timeframe, an SO sounds about right. It's still the reward, or a reward choice, in some content (SSA 1, for instance, gives you a choice of 4x merits, some incarnate bits, or... an accuracy SO. Siren's Call has an SO for 1000 bounty. That sort of thing.)

I think it's still happening. I somehow talked to Twinshot when I was a newb and missed it - when I went back as a 50 to clear out the story arc icon, I wound up with a level 50 training enhancement.

Yeah, story arcs still give out a random enhancement upon completion, equal to your level. It's a remnant of the days when enhancements were the only real "gear" you could get, and back in the day they were a lot harder to come by.

No way? Level 50 Training enhancement? If it was something that I could slot in Brawl or Prestige sprint of some kind I would probably have done it and kept for the novelty of it.

Ahh, the old days of "Hey, have you got a contact that'll sell you a level 30 Magic End Mod SO?"  "Yes?  great, if I trade you the inf, could you buy me a couple?  I haven't got any Magic contacts open in that level band and I'm gasping for endurance"

 

End mod not being "power 10", and therefore not available in the origin stores...

 

Happened to me, IIRC I had to go talk to Lars Hansen on Striga for a friend's Katana/SR scrapper.

Remember running to the right Origin store to sell enhancements? They were worth a fair amount more if sold to the appropriate vendor.

 

Also, contacts who would "do you the favor" of selling you enhancements at a 100% markup over the stores.

And no indication in game that the contacts were overcharging you compared to a vendor.  I wonder how many players assumed that the contact was giving you a better deal since you had to do missions for him in order to unlock his store?  Preying on the new & uninformed - hardly friendly game design!
