I want to solo the ITF at +4x8 fast. What Brute build do I make?

Recommended Posts

I am writing this WHILE my Shield Defense/Electric Melee Tank is slowly (oh so slowly), methodically, plodding through one of my favorite Task Forces.

But OH MY GOSH THIS IS TAKING FOREVER!!!

I love it, but when Cyclops or Minotaurs pop their Unstoppable, it takes forever to take them out, even with red insps, build up, Ion judgement, and a double whammy of Shield Charge and Lightning Rod.

ANY help on the best sets (like, Energy/Bio or something) would be eternally appreciated.

And, influence/infamy is no object.

Thanks all!

I love ALL Archetypes, but prefer to play them Blue-Side.

Takes my shield/nrg tank about 1.5 hours. I know Elec Melee isn't great on ST, but I bet money that if you respec into Gloom and work on tightening up your ST chain with it in play, you'll find things speed up considerably.

But absolutely best brute for the ITF? I find Bio pretty squishy in there. New stone armor, from what I'm reading, may be better than I found during my one test on beta, Nrg Aura seems to be the goto now for unkillable but it's the monsters and AVs that slow you down, so ST damage should be paramount.

Nrg/Nrg Brute seems a likely candidate. Edit: Don't forget extra acc/tohit.

I would suggest Energy/Invul.  There is not a ton of Psi damage (any?) and therefore you will be nigh unstoppable.  Then.... Energy (since the rework) is a premier set.

After that it comes down to mechanics.  Get a warburg nuke.  temp pets, etc.  When you get to the toughest fights (1-3 total?) just start pulling rabbits out of your hat

My personal fav (and main) is Dark/Invul Brute.  reworking some ideas from an old SS?Invul Hyperstrike made.  Here is what my thoughts are on a nigh unkillable Dark/Invul.  Solo you can swap out taunt for Touch of Fear.

Elec Melee is just.... not very good on any account. If you look at Mids all the ST attacks are just so low. It's even worse than Ice Melee.

Normally I might say go Energy Melee but its AoE is not all that great if you don't make room for Power Crash, and you really really want to kill those mobs since even minions will debuff you like mad.

To be honest I haven't tried to solo the ITF on a Brute, just a Tanker, so I'm not sure what would really fit. I know people talk well of Shield being able to AFK in the middle of romans which has its appeal.

I have been testing Stone Armor but haven't yet decided on what primary would work better, but possibly Rad Melee for the heal and AoE, though Savage Melee keeps up with the AoE and feels much better on the ST front with no long animations.

Do not forget to use P2W temp stun grenade and hand grenades.  I honestly have no idea why anyone would want to do this, but I am soloing every contact in the game, so I got no room to talk lol

My SR brute can do it.

Testing my shield tank right now. She died. Since I was testing as I did with my SR tank and brute, that meant no clicking hasten. Which meant AD stopped being doublestacked, which meant cascading defense failure which meant death. Course she probably wouldn't have died had I just kept clicking hasten. Testing that theory now. Yup, as long as hasten is backing up AD, I'll sit at 87.8% DDR. No CDF. And that's with AD only single slotted with a 50+5 recred,

Don't currently have a shield brute to try it. Even with the lower resistance levels, it should be ok, too, as long as AD remains doublestacked. That's *IF* the DDR values are the same. I honestly don't know.

Yea, SR sucks so much. /insert painful eyeroll here.

My shield tank that was never really troubled, just slow as all heck:

I love ALL Archetypes, but prefer to play them Blue-Side.

I haven't tried it, but how about Psi melee?  Psy attacks laugh at Unstoppable and Shield gives you the added AoE Psi lacks.

No clue how much psi resistance the AVs have but I have watched it tear through the monsters in pretty sick order.

Although I have skipped it in prior Psi Melee builds, having Boggle confuse some extra DPS or a Surgeon to heal you instead of your enemy has to be worth something as well.

Nope. Easier to just CT->GPB and one-shot them; when they overlap or have more then one just hit the find macro, bamf to the next and drink it's milkshake too.

Fiddled with a few solo ITFs with my Psi/SD (Scrapper) and the animation time is just too damn long on Boggle for it to be worth a single target confuse, or I am just too impatient for that style of play* with SC/ML on fast recharge, CT on a thumb button, and hover/EvM.  Technically it doubles (roughly) the change of triggering Insight, which sounds interesting against an AV, but again, dat animation time tho. 😞

Shame too, even coupling it with the confuse in /Nin was disappointing.

Otherwise yes, Psi eats the EBs and AVs for breakfast, but the lack of AoE balances out the time saved on those.  The cone is good, ML is good, but they're both not very big.  Having shield charge helps and the combo is very strong, very fun, and can drop holds on AVs if built to do so, but it's still no champion of AoE dmg.  I have no doubt a similarly built brute could solo the ITF, but it might take a minute.

* - ymmv, it's a 15sec duration and can be kept on a target easily, more patient adults might find it more satisfying 🙂

Psi/Shield sounds like a ton of fun. I’ve looked at Psi/EA as a scrapper, with EA bringing the heal Psi sorely lacks, but Shield would be great for that AOE.

/EA is a top tier armor for sure.  Folks are doing some crazy things with it; @Linea's immortal builds for example, and I forget who but someone just posted a Pylon time with DB/EA that I thought highly unlikely on a scrapper without +dmg (or -res and + dmg ... freaking /Bio, enough already with the /Bio) in the secondary.

Only reason I didn't go /EA on anything yet during /HC was having run several of them during Live. I am tempted to try a Kat/EA to see if I can make a chain out of just SD/GD/Snipe in some pattern - but I suspect that if that was possible it would have already been done.  I'm sure someone knows the minimum # of times one has to fill with GC to get the most out of that idea, and I don't have the "button discipline" to stick to a chain pattern in the moment anyway, lol.

If one of the resident gurus could figure out a Psi/SD/Mu (Scrapper, though that might make a dope Brute too, and might be easier to build as a brute) that was endurance sustainable without leaning on Ageless on cool-down (thus keeping Rebirth for the Heal/massive +regen bump) I'd be all over it, Toss BL -> SC -> ML -> "Go to town on the survivors."  Swapping the snipe into the attack chain wouldn't hurt either - but I've not seen (at least in Mids) a way to make that work without stuff that I'd rather not dip into/lean upon (Ageless, Serums, etc..).

I would probably say Scrapper with a taunt aura for the highest combination of AoE and ST Damage.

That said, in one of my +4x8 MOITF contests, it was a pair of Rad/Rad Brutes that won the fastest duo time.  The builds were much less armor oriented than anything I run, probably leaning on inspirations as needed, and pushing offense pre-i27-proc builds.   These days I'd look at something similar, but with a heavier proc load, and I'd probably prefer scrapper frame, but then again full fury all the time on a brute with the higher resist cap.   It's probably gonna be a close call.

This is not my build, and it is old, early i25.

AE 801 (link) is a variety of missions for fun and challenge, and is designed for a team of 5+ Incarnates.  Just search '801' in AE.

     801 Difficulty Varies: 801.0 Easy, ..., 801.2 Standard*, ..., 801.5 Moderate**, ..., 801.6 Hard***, ..., 801.7 Four Star****, ... 801.F Death.

I may be AFK IRL, But CoH is my Forever Home.

Since you're looking for Brute specific;

Radiation Melee or Energy Melee would be good;

Stone Armor, Bio Armor, or Shield could work also.

Rad can clear out mobs faster when it's needed, and it's one of the best balances of AoE/Single target with a damage aura. But Energy Melee is the best single target damage.

Out of these, I'd bet EM/Stone might be a good contender
