I have tried a bunch of different toons in this game. I have friends and family who all have 50's meanwhile my highest toon has been 34. I am starting to feel a bit bad about holding them back. I want a tanker because I want to feel semi useful. But NrgM/SD drove me crazy with the clipping of the pom pom and the shield. And INV/SS was very boring waiting on foot stomp. I would like a tanker that is fun to watch lots of cc. And has more then 3 attacks to click. I have pretty bad adhd and i get bored really easily if i'm not engaged in the game. So I was thinking Stone or WM maybe Ice i think TW also had good knockback. I like the AOE of the cones in WM and TW and Ice. I know SD can also add more AOE. And BIO increases DMG and SR is easy to build. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels here so any help or feedback on builds or play styles would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading!

P.S.  I think i have like 150m inf all together from me making way to many toons  for way too long. so a leveling build and a at 50 build would be helpful.

Shield is a good choice with its extra attack but Rad armor could be another alternative. Rad armor has an extra AoE attack (Ground Zero) and a heal that can be procced out into another AoE (Rad Therapy). Rad is more fun in my opinion.

Secondaries that could be fun for you with SD....

Electric Melee. Plenty of AoE and some Flashy moves.

Savage melee.  A leap attack AoE.

None Shield...

Spines.

Dual Blades.

Claws.

What Secondaries would you suggest with Rad?

I think one of the first toons I tried when homecoming first came out was a RAD/RAD brute and I hated it. I got stuck in first ward. But never played the game before then and had no idea what i was doing.

you will not enjoy slow moving sets like stone or titan, i do not believe.  SS will leave an ADHD person going crazy...not for waiting on Footstomp (glory!) but after a few days/weeks/months of waiting on Rage crash to end.

If you like Energy I suggest Inv/Energy.  Get a Hypertrike build.  Never look back.

Take Taunt.  Be a useful Tank.

Here is a (very expensive and untested) Rad/Rad i am considering taking 1-50+ this weekend.  On paper the thing is batshit crazy tough.  For a set that ignores defenses.

I've 50'd Rad Armour with Fire, Ice and Kinetic Melee, and am working on a Savage. Of those I'd recommend Ice or Savage; the former as a more control-y set, the latter for non-stop slashy slashy and bleeds.

@Cutter

So many alts, so little time...

Shield Electric is the AOE king it almost rivals a blaster's nuke when you full broadside your aoe selection.

Fire EM might also be a good selection - awesome aoe and the best single target combined - with excellent mitigation also.

Look up Ultra Infinitum and Lodestarr below for the builds there.  And any others you may want to test out. I have a large selection my shield, and invul builds are all super durable if that is what you are looking for.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

With your criteria in mind, I'm not sure if I wouldn't roll a RadArmor/WM tank. Here's an end game build I just threw together.

Thanks for the feedback guys I have a few ideas now. Don't know how well they are.

Rad/Sav

Fire/NRGM

Savage/Shield- But not sure if the animations would look odd

Elec/Shield which a friend said is really fun on his stalker.

I really like the way Savage Melee looks so any good suggested combo with savage i'm open to aswell. But i hear its dmg is lackluster but I guess on a tank that's not that big of deal as long as i can take a hit.

out of those combos which one could level 1- 50 in story and not feel weak the entire time. and have a good rotation sooner then later.

Fire/NRGM

you will not be tanking much on a Fire Armor.  looking at your original post.  If you are headed that way (more damage less armors/defense) i would suggest looking at Brutes.  some trash talk Brutes.  I been playing them since live.  They have been squuezed a bit over the years by nerfs and buffs to other melee.  But the sick truth is they were near broken once we got inherent fitness.  up until then they were lopsided.  that just gave the engine nitrous and they never looked back.

I made a savage/fire brute last weekend to play fire farms with a friend. And I have been sorta enjoying it but I kinda wanted a tank main. Because I was told brutes where obsolete by tankers tanking better and scrappers having better damage. Damage is important to me but so is the ability to be able to survive. The person I play with most of the time. Plays a sonic rad defender and a Beasts/sonic mastermind and a water/storms corrupter. And the other person is a elec/elec brute and a bs/wp scrapper mostly so i wanted to be able to support them by tanking.

Firrrrrrrre/Clawsssss 😄 You can exemp down to level 15 and still be rocking. Or Fire/Ice Melee if you feel you want to help your team. Do damage -and- be sturdy.

Brutes do more damage and can tank everything. It takes reaching the 5% of end game AND be solo to find a Tanker would do better. A well built Brute needs only one 50 inf inspiration to be at the level of a Tanker. What the Tankers have is an easier (cheaper?) way to be very sturdy without investing a lot of money. In return their damage is more mushy (despite what some claim in these forums).

Now doing a bit less damage is not what someone who picks a Tanker is really worried about so this is moot.

If you have your heart set on a Tanker then I suggest Fire Armor/Ice Melee since it is good straight out of the box. Tankers are pretty tough and there is no need to aim for -more- sturdy since it is difficult to die. Especially with Ice Melee dropping Ice Patches.

I you prefer a Brute try a Radiation Melee/Stone Armor. It's pretty much easy mode with Irradiated Ground killing things around you while you're focusing on a boss. I had very good results with a Claws/Fire Brute too, but unlike Stone Armor that one needed to eat inspirations until mid game (around level 30 ish) where the Stone Armor becomes impervious around level 22+ish (needs a good build using all the tricks though).

If you need examples I have builds in my signature and how to make money.

Or Rad/Claws

Or Bio/Claws

Or Inv/Claws with the Gaussian Chance for Build Up in Invincibility

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I might look more into brutes aswell. I tried the fire/ice and got bored with it by 33 it felt so passive. Like autonomous with burn and ice patch and frost being all auto aim.

Rad is a very nice armour set.  It's up there with Bio, Dark, Invul and Stone.

You'll get passive 'tik' damage.  Always good.

Rad as your 2ndary will give another tick as well.  It has some bone crunching melee attacks and some decent AoE 'smash' with Atom.

You could have fire with that with some AoE melting.  (I did a fire/fire tank.)  Mace is sound and brutal mix of strong single attacks and AoE 'crowd control.'

I'd go Rad as your Armour.  If you're not sure which Attack set.  Just roll 3-4 different versions of your rad' armour alt and run it to L10 (with double xp on...) and you'll soon see which you like best.

Mind made up.  The priority is to get to L50 and start making 'coin' (influence.)  As playing a L50 will bring in money.  Lots of it.  After a week or two of play you could have 100-200 million.  Max out your build and save money to go towards your next build.

How to get to L50.  Double your xp.  Team up on starter level up teams.  Task Forces.  Tip mission groups.  Casual Pick and and Play teams.  L50 P.Island teams often will include 'lowbies' to give you a leg up.  Join a L50 farm.

Being a tank, you can 'self farm' at even lower levels if you take a 'damage wholesale' approach.  Eg. -1x4, -1x8 with chomping the odd 'luck inspire.'

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I might look more into brutes aswell. I tried the fire/ice and got bored with it by 33 it felt so passive. Like autonomous with burn and ice patch and frost being all auto aim.

That's the thing with some power sets in CoH.  Some (especially on tanks) can be very passive.

Bio/Spines, for example, you're really 'in the mix' and have to pay attention to get the best out of bio' and spines.  Which I like.

The good news, since the 'Tank patch', Brutes and Tanks are more 'their OWN thing.

If you want that balance of survive and damage, a Tank will serve you well.

Just using SOs, a levelling Tank is mucho fun for me.

Roll ten tanks.  Play them all to L10.  You'll soon learn what you like and don't like.  And then go with the 'winner' of your taste buds.

I rolled ten tanks and got them all to L50 because I became Tank obsessed.  They've all got their own character.  Some are passive, some are active.  Sounds like you might like the latter.

Or Rad/Claws

Or Bio/Claws

Or Inv/Claws with the Gaussian Chance for Build Up in Invincibility

There's a bias here... But I'm not sure what it is...

Try an Energy/Shield Stalker for the AoE

Sorry Sh1v you're a Radiation Melee / Fiery Aura Brute. Accept this and problem solved.
