biostem Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 So I was bumming around the RWZ, and saw a Vanguard HVAS in one of the bays within the base. I was curious was "HVAS" stood for, and the Wiki calls it a "Vanguard HVAS", but then goes on to state that "HVAS" stands for "Heavy Vanguard Assault Suit". So, in effect, this unit is called the "Vanguard Heavy Vanguard Assault Suit". Also, I thought this was a robot for the longest time, but apparently it's piloted?
Glacier Peak Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Oh I didn't know that, is that the same for the Longbow Heavy Cataphract(?) things? I lead weekly Indom Badge Runs / A newer giant monster guide by Glacier Peak / A tour of Pocket D easter eggs! / Arena All-Star Accolade Guide! Best Post Ever....

TheZag Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Oh noes, i had the rikti reprogram the HVAS to fight for their side in my AE mission. They gave it a snazzy paint job too. Now ill have to fix it that they 'reprogrammed' the pilots.

Or the apocryphal Torpenhow Hill in Cumbria, England, supposedly the result of agglutination as different peoples passed through the area -- referred to as 'Torr' by the original inhabitants ('torr' being Old English for 'hill'), then 'Tor Pen' by the Welsh ('pen' being Old Welsh for 'hill'), then 'Torpen How' by the Norse ('haugr' being Old Norse for 'hill'), and finally 'Torpenhow Hill' by the English, making the name 'Hill-hill-hill Hill'. The story is ruined by the fact that there is actually no hill with that name near the village of Torpenhow in Cumbria, though. Update: And I ran across a video today that illustrates how much of a back-construction it is; the false etymology would have it pronounced as 'tore-pen-how', while the actual pronunciation of the village name is closer to 'ter-pen-a'. Rudra Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 (edited) Those things are piloted?! Where did you read that? https://archive.paragonwiki.com/wiki/Vanguard_HVAS just says they are found in RWZ, come from 2 different factions of the Vanguard, and what their abilities are. Edit: Assault SUIT... right... got it... Sorry and never mind. Edited September 12, 2022 by Rudra 1
TalynDerre Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 If it's a suit, and not a robot, does that imply that the pilots have to stand around all day with their knees bent? Because that sounds very uncomfortable. 1 1
TalynDerre Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Following up from my previous post - I just logged into the RWZ to take a look at the suit, and I don't think they could conceivably be piloted, unless the pilots' legs were amputated at the knee. The 'torso' isn't big enough for an adult human to sit in, and the legs are clearly attached to a very small 'hip' that a pilot's legs couldn't fit in. I think they are robots, and 'Suits' is just a misleading term. 1
Aracknight Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Maybe they hit Icon and have their height sliders adjusted before suiting up. 7
biostem Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 Also, IIRC, they drop in a crate when you summon one, so do the pilots wait inside the robot, inside the carte, until needed? Heh. 1
Frostbiter Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Robots can wear suits too. What if it's just a bunch of roombas in there? 4 Torchbearer Discount Heroes SG: Frostbiter - Ice/Ice Blaster Throneblade - Broadsword/Dark Armor Brute Silver Mantra - Martial Arts/Electric Armor Scrapper

I think they are robots, and 'Suits' is just a misleading term. Depends on how loosely you use the term 'suit', and how cramped a cockpit you give the operator. For example, the Garland from the "Megazone 23" anime is a transformable mecha, with the pilot entirely in the upper torso of the mecha, which is less than four meters tall:

biostem Posted September 13, 2022 Author Posted September 13, 2022 What's also funny is if you get under the HVAS and look up at the underside of the head/neck, the helmet is completely hollow.

InvaderStych Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Obviously the pilots have had the Mini costume reward from the very beginning. Maybe Benovo's exclusive contract with Vanguard expired and they can share it with the masses now. 1 1 You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.
