Dark Temporal

I am giving this a whirl.  I try to stay Dark to fit my undead theme.  Darkness Manipulation is just too unwieldy for me even if you are committed to serious jousting.  
 

One thing I noticed that is nice.  When you make a Dark/Temporal/Soul you get 3hree ST holds!   Now I like 2 for Victoria robots and helping with late game weirdness.   But 3!   Hello low level Paragon Protectors!   Late game Hello Minds of Madness.  And I do not think a Vicky will ever break free from me again lol.  I am going to be seriously useful in a LGTF as well.  
 

I have not made a build for it yet.  I have my Dark Dark, Elec Temp pulled up and am trying to cram them together into a coherent synergistic monstrosity.   Ranged defense, stealth, only blipping in to Blackstar will be signatures of the run.

You are not far wrong.  I will post the build in the next day or two.  50d it this weekend and have been busy badging and TFs.  But yes, lot of ranged defense.  50% or so while “in combat” if I remember.  
 

I took Musculature for the Alpha but chose the odd 33% instead of 45 due to the secondary buffs and my perception that the difference between the 33% and 45% was negligible.  And the secondary buffs on Dark/Temp were near perfectly aligned.  Any thoughts?

My thoughts are pretty simple. You will have fun with it. Dark blast is one of those sets that rarely if ever gets boring.

 

I ran a dark/time a couple years back and i built it pretty much the way i imagine your looking at doing now. It was great. It was slow. Playing dark/nin and dark/dev made me re-evaluate the slotting. The attacks stack up the - to hit debuffs to the point where 45+ ranged is irrelevant. Torrent ensures the mobs aren't able to attack anyway. Open with that and the tentacles and even if the odd one to the side hits you , life drain is there. 

 

Your about to build your dps toon as a tanker. When you build your tanks do you build them as dps?

No, I go against current CoH gamecrafting (MOAH PROCS BIATCH) and build for tankiness.  Like I do on my Brutes.  .....and, according to you, on my Blasters as well lol

Here is the build.  Nothing special in the damage dept.  I did PROC out Umbral Torrent.  It was awkward to slot since it needed a Sudden Acc and I chose to get creative with it.  Solid ST chain, as Dark deliver.  AoE is a Cone barrage.  4 Cones that are essentially neverending if need be.  47% Ranged Def while in combat, over 50% Energy/Neg.  The 3 ST Holds are very useful.  Paragon Protectors are owned, even at low level when they first show up.  On a team or League can work with the control group as needed in a pinch.

So I don't specifically have one of these (so why are you here Carni?) but I do have a Dark/Tact Arrow and a Water / Temporal both designed for the same sort of thing. Dark/TA was more "Blastroller" then they nerfed EMP Arrow (Boo)

 

So merging them into the Dark/TA but keeping the Fire epic for control-via-bonfire gives me this. Future Pain is procced up because it makes for good AV fight DPS (assuming you don't die horribly) or just to give a boss who got up into your face a bad time (Time Stop them, then Future Pain followed by Gloom, Umbral to make them fall over and snipe)

*Edit : Switching Blackstar to the Blaster ATO as you've done is an obvious improvement I missed.

Your power picks, minus dark blast, hover is flight control and you have more than enough st stuff ( why would you not go intuition radial if you want range and holds? )

You took a somewhat different approach than I did in building a Dark Temporal. I went more for a versatile and comfortable in melee approach. I'm thinking of converting to a more resistance based to pick up Rise of the Phoenix because having a self rez that is on a relatively short timer may be helpful in some situations.

My only issue with self rezzes in CoH (I like them, and they are on a few toons, mostly Brutes).  But there is this thing… If you get planted.   There is a good 75% chance that if you rez….  Yeah.   And the hits just keep coming lol.

That's a good point. I'm still looking at options for my Epic/Ancillary/Patron Pool... I even looked at Leviathon for its KO Blow (which is super powerful, but the cooldown is a little long. I was mainly sharing an alternate approach which would allow you to sit in Melee when needed to get the Nuke off and grab that Future Pain DPS.

Uh….never occurred to me to pop an Incarnate power in those situations lol.  I tend to rez, eat some skittles, get my armors up (dark, this is where it starts to bog…) then see if i can deal with (usually a small army) what put me carpet facing

Yeah usually getting the armors up and realizing that all my Oh Shit buttons are on cooldown because I frantically clicked them all before I died is the moment when I die again.  

 

But hitting Barrier (or Howling Twilight if applicable) while screaming WITNESS ME is a true highlight in my gameplay

Plugging away at my Dark/Ninja stealth killa!!! :)

Just dinged 24 (slow-poke). Using your Mids build for the primary (mostly) Snarky.

Now, given some of us can't afford a full set up Superior Defiant Barrage (even the normal version lol!), what would you suggest for Gloom instead?

I really like stealth & mystic flight+hover for control & the fast teleport traversal of zones, so I made those a priority earlier on. I mostly solo, eh.

I don't plan on taking any melee powers, so mainly using Ninja for what you see below (will grab Blinding Power and Golden Dragonfly later on, at least to give them a try).

I have the full sets of Thunderstrike, Artillery & Bombardment for level 27 ready to go, but I could barely scrape together enough to afford those, so not sure how I will ever afford sets like Defiant Barrage, Winter's Bite & Blaster's Wrath, as they go for 10-15million+ *each*! I could scrape together maybe 200mill from all my heroes, but that would leave me destitute, he, he.

 

(the only other similar-ish builds that have come close to being as enjoyable as this are my main, Ill/Dark troller parked at 40, my ranged Window (24) and my darkside Dark/Storm corruptor (<20), which I must play some more)

 

Any/all advise much appreciated from this time-limited, casual power-gamer wannabe! ;)

@Snarky working on my dark/ninja blaster and still having a blast! In adapting your dark/temp mids build Snarky, I have a few questions:

 

1. I can't afford superior anything just yet in Blaster, so am using the normal versions (still 7-8 mill each!) - hopefully that's a good approach

2. As I acquired some of the blaster sets, I ended up with Blaster's Wrath in Gloom, so may have to switch Defiant Barrage into Blackstar. Does it matter a lot which set goes into which power, as the overall bonuses look similar to me, and the globals will obviously apply anyway...?

3. I didn't understand the point of Cloud Senses:Chance for Negative in Umbral Torrent, as it does lots of negative dmg anyway, so I just stuck a 5th Bombardment in there - was that a mistake? Even SA:KB to KD is probably a waste as I mostly solo and actually want to keep the mobs at range as far away as possible...correct?

 

Any other tips for a Dark/Ninja blaster much appreciated. I'm finding Shinobi and Kuji fantastic, but hardly use Immob Dart or Blinding Powder at 32. Golden Dragonfly is fun to smash elites/bosses with once they inevitably move into melee range :) (it just needs a lot more enhance investment, not sure if it's worth it at endgame - I may spec out of it into pools or epics by then anyway).

The regulars are okay until you have merits to buy boosters. (5 merits for each zone you get all 8 location badges in…).  Remember to flip them all at once. The set bonuses are based on what version. They do not mix.  
 

Defiant Barrage should be in a power you spam.  That is the nature of the PROC in it. 
 

I am not good at PROCs.  I assume the extra damage is better than the random bonuses (without picking it apart) because they almost always are.  
 

I do not know anything about Ninja set
