It's late and I'm looking at some funny MM toon ideas. Read about petless MMs.

So could be all whips like dominatrix.

Or a boy raised by wolves who only uses beast mode and his momma wolf follows him and fights with him and brings along his other forest friends.

Could be an Asian HS student who is failing all classes and sucks at piano and suffers emotional damage. Summons his ancestor, ONI and runs around singing Moni ONI ONI.

What would be your most ridiculous backstrories or concept for petless or T3 pet only MM.

Something that might actually be decent also and not totally suck in game.

This is an alternate build I have for my Robots/Traps MM: "A Boy and His Robot". I don't usually run this build, but it is more viable in this (i27p5) era than it was before for a multiple reasons (power changes, level choices for powers). The arc I use to gauge how (in)effective a "petless" (or reduced number of henchmen) MM is the "Lost and Found" from Montague Castanella at level 50... I landed on this one because it used to be absolutely miserable and I see no need to seek out a more miserable one.

I’ve been futzing around with “Action Hero Sidekick” - mercs/traps summoning only T3. Character is basically a scrawny kid trying to keep up with the 80s era action movie soldier of fortune with too many guns. Traps is suitably self-contained and functional. And with stealth, can do a lot solo. But it’s slow. Sloooooow!

The Splintered Soul Project: (Nyght****) 21 and counting (18 max).

I find this to be interesting in concept, like the Last Action Hero . . . especially when Danny realized he's the comic relief sidekick.

Girls of Nukem High - Excelsior - Tempus Fabulous, Flattery, Jennifer Chilly, Betty Beatdown, Totally Cali, Two Gun Trixie

Babes of War - Excelsior - High Beam (Yay), Di Di Guns, Runeslinger, Munitions Mistress, Tideway, Hard Melody, Blue Aria

Many alts and lots of fun.  Thank you Name Release For letting me get my OG main back!

I've thought these kind of self constraints players put on themselves interesting for awhile but I've never been one for self-restraint. I take my MM projects to the extreme where I might run multiple accounts of them.

I guess for backstories you could always say that you used to have other minions but overtime they didn't make it whether they died, slowed you down, or just gave you the bird for being the world's worst boss.

How do these kinda MMs hold up to the game's content?

My experience with running only alongside a single T3 henchman is that the (lack of) damage output hurts more than anything else. Fewer "bodyguards" is also something that needs to be factored in. Eventually the Endurance tax catches up, because the MM will need to be much more active. It is possible to use Grant Invisibility to stealth some missions with a single henchman already summoned, but at the final objective you will still be a MM with but a single henchman.

Yep. it works up to a point, but I wouldn't level up past you have the whip powers six slotted. I would just level lock it at that point and play at that level or lower with the character.

I have fun with a whips/electric. But whips/traps works okay.

When you are on a team and teammates comment about you not having minions, just reply "I have x minions" where x = the number of characters on the team - 1.

No idea.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I had a character concept once named "Spare Genin" who was a scrapper whose theme was "one of the pets associated with a petless mastermind", which is not TECHNICALLY a mastermind build but implies the existence of one somewhere else.

I was raised by the clan, to be the ideal killing machine. Finally, I was assigned to a master, one who would take me out into the world. I was to be his hands, his feet, his wrath and vengeance. And so I waited, invisible. While he went around plinking away at things with this DORKY little bow. And he... just kept doing that. DORKY little bow. Plink plink. Here I am, ready to destroy those who oppose him, and... plink. plink.

So I wandered off. He hasn't noticed yet.

One of my Controllers (who went through Redside) has a bio that explicitly identifies him as a former hench that got "cut" because he was always making people fall down, or otherwise getting in each others' way.

A Watcher/pacifist style character. When teammates ask if you're going to help fight, reply, "I'm only here to observe and save."

All the pets can be taken but must remain in passive mode. Bots are preferred for the T2 shields, heals and Maintenance Drone. Protector Bots won't heal/bubble while passive so that needs to be done between enemy groups.

MM picks must consist of passive, non-attack, 0 damage powers. Oppressive Gloom or Hibernate. Phase Shift is a good one.  Pacify, Misdirection, Stealth, Medicine PP etc.

As for the secondary, FF would fit the concept. Repulsion Field needs to be heavily slotted for KB. Or Dark Miasma, Black Hole frequently. When teammates yell at you, response should be in along the lines of, "Stop, you're hurting them."

Feel free to Fold Space enemies away from your teammates to help keep the peace. The MM needs to wear glasses. Nobody would hit a guy with glasses. Battlecry should be something like, "Use words, not weapons!"

Um… uh … oh! I kinda love this. RP the Bots as stenographers or recording devices.

One I've been toying with: "Dr. Cordyceps"... a Necro/Nature MM. Background is a controversial research scientist, whose experiments with fungi goes frighteningly wrong.

To be fair, in that case I'd go with Thugs/Storm.
Purely to keep hurricane up so that you never have to catch a whiff of what The Rock is Cooking.

My thread about petless is in my signature.
The real issue you have going petless is you CANNOT level them up petless. The endurance is just too exhausting. You just are constantly running out of endurance.
I think I make it into the high 20s before I gave up and power leveled myself to 50.

End result all my builds are based on level 50 builds.
They are all defense capped for the most part.
I haven't logged in for a while but I can look to recheck the builds I have. Nonetheless, I have about 8 petless or semi petless builds that can solo 8/3 setting. But of course DPS wise it is slower then maybe someone who has the same defense capped full pet build. Then there is of course the player who couldn't do 8/3 on any build because they just don't want to understand defense cap.

These are all of course solo play builds. Who needs the drama of joining a group and have someone complaining of no pets.
Though again, I have joined groups for a TF just running SO's and had no complaints, because again no one is looking to see if someone has set bonuses.. They see 6 pets that is all they see or care to see.

I can attest with defense cap they are running 8/3 against the standard soft groups. We are NOT talking Malta or carnys here..
It is viable at level 50, but a slower DPS run.

I tried to to ITF solo on 8/0 setting but the best I could do is a stalemate against ( excuse my ignorance, haven't played in a while) the boss at the mission with the giant robots at the end. You have 2 bosses. I just could not kill either one.. I would get them to  half and they would regen back up.. I tried the envenom daggers trick, etc, I just could not either one of them down..

But I can clear out 5th column for example in the seal rupture missions.
I did solo the AV from the NPC Marie, ( the AV with the Axe with the COTS) with Robot Traps.. I did post pics up of that..

Roll a necro/dark, only take the dark blasts, upgrades, and the lich.  Have the backstory that your character was some high school/college edgelord who was infatuated with some long-lost magic-used, and the culmination of their efforts was being able to summon said magic-used, (now a lich), who has nothing but contempt for them.  maybe include some binds to have the lich say unflattering things to said MM as you're fighting...

I took inspiration from Drop Dead Fred and created Undead Fred - A smart alek kid who dabbled in things best left alone against good advice and wound up dead. A Necro/Dark MM, He's snarky and named his minions sophomoricly (sic) childish names like Snot Nose - Butt Munch - Jerk Weasel - Worm Farm and Maggot Hotel.

I have a Thugs/Time that’s built around Anchorman.  Ron Burgandy and his news crew, plus Octagon, Dr. Kenneth Noisewater and James Westfall for the t1 pets and /Time was selected partially for the opening line of the movie (“There was a TIME, a time before cable, when the local newsman reigned supreme….”), but honestly more for overall build effectiveness instead.
