Scarlet Shocker Posted March 23 Posted March 23 This came up on my bluesky feed today and hit me like a brick. Apparently it's from the 750th Hardcover edition I am out of the loop with comics these days and this post isn't a critique of WW, or the art... but it still caused a pang and I wanted to share There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.
Glacier Peak Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Atlas been shouldering the world for a while. The punishments back then were brutal! 1 I lead weekly Indom Badge Runs / A newer giant monster guide by Glacier Peak / A tour of Pocket D easter eggs! / Arena All-Star Accolade Guide! Best Post Ever....

I'm gonna critique the art. The hair bugs me. It's over rendered and not obeying the lighting that's on the rest of Diana. 1 AE Arcs: Search for @ZamuelNow Dhahabu Kingdom and the Indelible Curse of Hate [60044] and Dhahabu Kingdom and the Unfathomable Nightmare of Sand [61528] Consideration of Knowledge [65341]

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more it seems like it was part of another picture and copy-pasted onto that one. It just looks so different to the rest of the art.
Scarlet Shocker Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 I wanted to comment on the image as a whole not on actual technical aspects of the art. It could be little more than a stick Wonder Woman. What struck me is how it referenced our own world. I appreciate that our City has millennia of lore to build upon. Atlas himself is barely novel, but as an image it resonated with me because of our great city and despite the fact that the sky did fall in on it once, some nameless heroes brought it back. It just got me nostalgic for a thing that exists. 2 There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

It's just that the thread name forced me to look at "what's wrong" and now I can't not look at that. 1 AE Arcs: Search for @ZamuelNow Dhahabu Kingdom and the Indelible Curse of Hate [60044] and Dhahabu Kingdom and the Unfathomable Nightmare of Sand [61528] Consideration of Knowledge [65341]

She has plenty of belt pouches that are concealed by her hair in this pose. There might also be some boot pouches, and maybe a choker of neck pouches.
Tattooist Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Maybe I'm ignorant of WW but I'm not sure if she's strong enough to even carry a planet. I know the Hulk or Superman could, but WW? Hmm I'm not sure. Server: Everlasting Character: Tattooist Super-power: Ink Manipulation
StarseedWarrior Posted March 25 Posted March 25 This is so cringe, not surprised at all I lost respect for all of these companies years ago and moved on and i'm better for it, always remember speak with your wallets. 1

Scarlet Shocker Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 Again, it's art and we can interpret it depending on our own perspective but I still wonder if this isn't at least in part a nod to Paragon, and perhaps even Homecoming, upholding our world for everyone to see... If that is the case then good on DC got such an acknowledgement! There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

There are far older (and more famous) statues of Atlas than the one in Paragon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_(statue). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farnese_Atlas 1 Uuniverse

Apples vs Eggs Diana and Paragon both hang heavily on Greek mythos. It might simply be coincidence. It might even be callous oblivion. Or it might not.
