I'm not going to use your made-up pronouns, I'm not going to speak to your imaginary friends, I'm not going to tolerate your 'quirky behavior.' 1. Ah, but why is that only one way? Why is it that OTHERS must accept group fly might be used on them, and not YOU must accept that most of the team may find it unwelcome?

this is an easy one: because by playing the game You automatically consent to all interactions that are possible and not explicitly disallowed. just so everybody knows: in this game other people can affect You with their own powers. because many people are annoyed by particular powers, they gave Null the ability to exempt yourself. thereby the onus is clearly and always on the player not wanting to be affected by a power that by ordinary standards works by default.

i also hate being affected by GF. thats why I tell Null to exempt me, duh.

I remember long ago on the live boards I tried to come up with etiquite for non-PvP in PvP zones and i'm pretty sure I got laughed out of there.  These days I'll accept whatever happens to me in a PvP zone but I won't actively seek out other players without valid reasons.  And if they find me, fine, but i'm generally only in PvP zones scooping up badges for the Villain accolades.  I typically do a /whoall when I enter a PvP zone to see if I may run into someone (I know /hide blocks you from this command) and usually keep as much stealth active as possible as I go about my business.

to address the broader topic: i often haunt PvP zones to lay in wait for badgers (not Badgers) and temp power collectors because that's the only people that really visit those zones, and they already gave me permission to ambush them by entering the zone. but after I kill them, or they kill me, or they escape to safety, i like to send a tell asking if they would prefer that I don't harass them. i don't have to do that of course, but the Truth is that Owls are exceptionally Friendly and Polite and only feckless liars and woke-scolds have ever said differently ❤️

I knew a long time player with a Pvp strategy.  He set up two accts.  One killed the other.  All.  Night Long.  Every night.  For years.  The PvP I/O drops made him ludicrously rich.

Used to do that myself back in the day in Warburg on Defiant.

If memory serves; one account was my Katana/Regen Scrapper namesake with a PBAoE (Lotus Drops) set to auto, and the other was my EM/Regen Stalker with their self-rez (Revive) set to auto.

Both toons were lvl50 (the level of the PVP IO drops were based on your uncapped level rather than on your zone-limited level) and I found a nice little nook up on some pipework that meant other players couldn't spot them from the ground. However IIRC the real trick was to get the Stalker's passive regeneration and self rez recharge levels just right so that they didn't get autobooted or hospitaled etc.

I left the pair of them going like that unattended rather a lot (twas during my university era so there were a large number of parties lectures to attend) and very often I'd arrive home to find a few billion inf worth of IO drops.

Whilst I never bothered with the more inventive inf storage methods, most of my many level 50 alts across both accounts were sat at the inf cap. So I never experienced many problems tricking out new characters and neither did any of my SG/Coalition buddies.

I have always felt PVP is boring. Specific power sets, builds, and tactics perform far better than others. Once you have those specific builds, tactics, etc, defeating other players is as easy as a couple clicks. No challenge. Dull and boring.

A long time ago I played a James Bond game on Playstation with my nephew. He killed me about 4 times before I caught on and found an ambush spot where other players could only approach me from one direction. Made a bunch of grenades, and as soon as he appeared in the doorway I blew him up. Yay. So fun. He couldn't win. We did this about 10 times before he started getting frustrated and upset. At that point we left then game and went outside to play catch.

I've dipped my toes into PVP every so often since then, but honestly my experience has been the same. If it's not a specific undefeatable tactic, it's a specific unbeatable power, enhancement, or build. Boring.

Then add to that the ability for some players to employ hacks to make the situation even more unfair, and PVP becomes downright intolerable. I remember a time a friend and I were playing Red Dead Redemption Online. Now, we're peaceful folk who concentrate on progressing through the game. Once, several seconds after we zoned in, some player sniped and killed us. Once is fine. Just a minute or so to respawn and continue on. A small inconvenience. Twice sniped. Getting annoying. Three times and we had enough. So we located the position he was sniping from, the rooftops, and the next time he killed us we respawned and positioned ourselves on opposite sides of the town and sniped his ass. We did this about 8-10 times. With two of us looking out for the dude and sniping him from opposite locations, it really didn't matter where he spawned into. He was simply dead. Nothing he could do. Yes, this was revenge pure and simple. However, the dude then restarted his game and loaded in a hack that would teleport him to where ever a designated player would spawn in. A quick shot to the head before we could even move did the trick. After about 4 times, we realized it was a hack, and were faced with a choice... employ our own hacks to counter his, or leave PVP.  Heck, we could have used the same hack he was using. We googled it, and there it was. We could have used it to zone in at the same time, and while the dude was busy teleporting and killing one of us, the other would teleport to the dude and kill him. Again, there's no way he could have won... but, what's the point? Yeah, we were even more pissed, and as a result we almost left the game. Instead we altered the game settings a little to create a private instance, and continued playing only with friends. It's a great game, by the way. Gorgeous graphics. Fun missions. Stunning vistas. And the old west environment is just pleasant.

So to answer your question, whenever you set foot inside a PVP zone in any game, you're stepping into an inherently unfair environment that can almost always thwart whatever you're trying to do. Consider it highly dangerous. And yes, you're fair game. However, in this game, I almost never encounter anyone in any PVP zone. It's kinda empty here. Maybe it's just Homecoming, or maybe it's just the time of the day that I went into the PVP zones, who knows?

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Ha you fools! You fell into my trap! This post was a trojan horse for GF!

How you going to sit there and be ok with PVP killing at will, citing it as part of the game but not extend the same logic to GF when you have Null available?

I am sad to think you felt it necessary to "lay a trap" to make a point in a different thread.

your question in this one is a valid question and the previous pages show there's some interesting thoughts - all valid - regarding it.

But as others have pointed out, PVP is an active choice. When you enter a PVP zone, you are given multiple warnings that you're in such a zone, other players may attack you and you proceed at your own risk.

IF Group Fly came with such a warning your trap may have some merit. But GF doesn't so your argument compares apples to oranges.

Let's take the following example: A novice enters the game and does not read extensively about the various power sets or zones and doesn't engage on the forums. Shocking, I know but hypothetically possible. If that novice player enters a PVP zone they get the warning as above and has the option to continue or withdraw. Even once in the zone they might find another player attacks them and can politely ask "hey please don't attack me I'm just exploring the zone and trying to discover more about the game." The opposing player may or may not oblige.

If that same player forms a team and then finds one player is using GF and it's ruining their play style - they have no knowledge of Null, remember - and says "Hey do you mind?" and their request is ignored...

Both your premises require informed consent.

Null is merely a safeguard to protect against people who insist on using a power that others think negatively affects them.

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

Twixt was a sphincter-behatted PVP troll who was fond of performing "Monster Player Kills" and who happened to use a different excuse than normal to justify their antisocial behaviour ("It was all an experiment! You can't sack me I has Tenure!").

I'm not sure how that relates to what @Scarlet Shocker wrote above which compared a newb player entering a PVP zone ["ALERT! WARNING! YOU MAY BE GANKED!"] versus them inadvertently inviting a Group Fly user onto their team [OK WTF why am I suddenly airborne and unable to activate half my attack chain and why is this one guy ranting at me about a seagull?]. Unless Twixt swooped down on you that one time and stole your fish 'n' chips?

It's all fair game! Leave your PvE pants at the door!

That being said, there have been plenty of times I have just blatantly stood around under the globe in RV just to chat with the PvPers and convert IOs without a scratch on me. Maybe they saw me as some kind of weird mascot!

I'd find some people like this in Elden Ring invasions sometimes.  Most every time I would emote and finger cut back to my world.  It's no fun at all just killing someone who isn't participating.

I just realized my wife's strategy after all these years.

We have another free option as well now.  If you do get bothered and really want to do PvP zone stuff right then without being bothered, temp transfer to another server (Reunion is probably a good choice).

There are ways to get some temp powers <nukes, Shivans, etc) and badges, but the game is totally playable without them.

All the PVP zones also offer level-appropriate door missions, no matter what your character's level is relative to the zone max. Most of these are either Longbow/Arachnos, so it isn't as if it is hard to find that content anyway, but I've occasionally done those simply to alleviate boredom.

And some badges associated with those.

I will run those to fill up the blue bars on the contacts there as well.
