I was able to secure some from my tiered wish list: Indomitable Excelsior Tru nope X Shadow X nope Demon X X Spectre X X Mummy nope nope Endgame X nope Glacier nope X Saturn X nope Jupiter nope nope Bob X nope I am pretty happy to get one 'Tru', and two 'Demon' and 'Spectre'. Also secured: 'Supreme', 'Wiz', 'Bishop', and 'Rascal' Will be dumping dozens of names into the wild by Tuesday via Drop a name, pick up a name. Troo
I think the logins peaked around 2,500 (total all servers) with Excelsior going red. [seems pretty strong 5+ years in] The strategy of [new character] [any AT] [any Power] [random costume] [Atlas Park] [run into City Hall (for the zero second logout)], rinse & repeat worked well enough. Villain side.. not as easy. Biggest fear: Misspelling a name. Biggest surprise: 10 minutes for the name release code to proliferate. Biggest laugh: 'Bob' was available. I have a character named Bob now. It was great to see so many new characters created at the spawn points. I won't tell folks what to do but in my opinion there is no need to name squat on dozens of names we aren't going to use. Hi @Magical. There's little difference between Star Hammer, Starhammer, S t a r h a m m e r, Star_Hammer, Star-Hammer, Hammer Star, & Star Hamster. Gold star if you read that far. Congratulations to those who were able to grab that one-coveted-name! And /em fistwave to whomever has Tru on Indomitable. I loathe thee. You are nothing but a low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worm! Hanging's too good for ya. Burning's too good for ya! You should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried aliiiiive! Alternately, feel free reach out with a reasonable request to make a deal and we can be friendsies, okay 🙂 Edited Saturday at 07:39 AM by Troo "Homecoming is not perfect but it is still better than the alternative.. at least so far" - Unknown (Wise words Unknown!) Etched
So many copyright infringements. @Troo, there are a few of the names that you recently got that should not be released in this game. Such as Spectre, Supreme, and Bishop. DC owns Spectre and Supreme and Marvel/Disney owns Bishop. Personally, i dont care what names are released, however, names like these can cause some major issues for the Homecomin crew and the last thing I would want is HC to be sued for something like a copyright infringement. And who's to say that DC or Marvel would even care but then again, they might. 1 1 1

I generally avoid that. What I was drinking was Patron tequila and Pacifico Clara beer, its my one-two party go to. I pulled the Patron out with the singular expectation of doing one shot after a failed attempt to get High Beam. So at 2130, on Excelsior it was unavailable so I did a shot. Said it was a nice try and then jumped to an alt that has Tina Mac Arc going. Do the Marauder in the city mission, finish and its 2140 so I say lets give it one more try just in case. Character select, new character High Beam. Green Check! OMG Becky! Click click as fast as possible so shes standing in AP and I am just stunned, especially seeing all the others standing there many I am sure feeling the same way. So I grab a second shot and pound the Pacifico. Then I get to chatting with my friends and SG mates and its war stories (in game and in RL) and name stories for an hour and during that time I had several more shots and a second then third beer. Bottle count at desk is the only proof cause I swear I don't remember a third beer; not blackout, I may be a retired Navy Chief but I have some self control. Anyway I made that post and its nowhere as bad as I was dreading, nothing like that wedding toast incident in 1989, or my 33rd birthday party, or my retirement form the mil, or . . . you get the point. Anyway, thanks to the devs for the name release. I only wanted that name and I got it so I cannot complain about anything. I had tried to reach out to the owner of that name for more than a year in game using their global and never got response. Nothing stalky, just an initial, then a moth later a hey remember me have you thought about it, then one about three months ago. I have never seen the global pop up in game so I don't feel too bad. Oh and yeah I just assumed it was a Beam Rifle. Anyway, everyone have a safe weekend. 2 1 1 Girls of Nukem High - Excelsior - Tempus Fabulous, Flattery, Jennifer Chilly, Betty Beatdown, Totally Cali, Two Gun Trixie Babes of War - Excelsior - High Beam (Yay), Di Di Guns, Runeslinger, Munitions Mistress, Tideway, Hard Melody, Blue Aria Many alts and lots of fun. Thank you Name Release For letting me get my OG main back!
lemming
I fixed my Ice Pirate characters, so I'm happy there. An old Champs char got their name back. Only name that I wish I got on Everlasting that I didn't is "Minimum Wage", so we'll have to figure out how to keep the spirit of the character when I move her from Excelsior. (Named for a TMBG, but they've got an actual backstory involving Manticore, and other stuff) And I checked to see if a name I had tried for in May 2021 was available "Red Herring". I still created the char as "Crimson Herring", and I'm not sure I want to fix her. (I might just have to do Red Herring as a new char then. Just have to work on a different misdirection)

This is NOT allowed. A combination of Name, Costume and/or Description can and should lead to removal. Costume alone could be enough. Name alone is more discretionary with obvious exceptions. I tried to get Knight and Rook first, then did get Bishop. I wouldn't risk the name Bishop by intentionally infringing on any intellectual property. Mine will likely be a wizard. IF I were to unintentionally infringe on some intellectual property, be cool about it, I do not know comics as well as many of our resident experts. Send me a nice tell and I would make changes. If I fail to make changes, then report me. 1 "Homecoming is not perfect but it is still better than the alternative.. at least so far" - Unknown (Wise words Unknown!) It's obviously been years, but I did a check during the original game for chess pieces and found that pretty much every chess piece was affiliated with one of the two big comic houses, even if most were obscure characters. Back then, I opted for the adjective to make the distinction. Since not all chess set pieces are black or white, I used something like "Red Bishop". Chess identifiers worked as well, such as "Queen's Bishop". Incidentally, continuing the gaming name concept, playing cards were pretty well wrapped up by DC comics thanks to Batman's nemesis group, the Royal Flush gang. The group apparently has had something of a revolving roster, leading to several card names being used. I don't know, though, about other terminology like say "Two of a Kind" or "Dead Man's Hand".

Card names as names for characters is prevalent across all media (movies, tv, books, anime, comics). I don't think any company can lay claim to that just as they can't lay claim to common mythological names like Thor and Loki. Now, name AND likeness is another story.

Just because someone made a comic character with that name doesn't mean that you have to give them a nickel every time you say it. Same with Bishop. Same with Spectre. In these cases the looks and possibly powers of the characters become important. There have been a number of characters named "Spectre" (or "The Spectre"). Plenty of Ghosts out there. Quite a few Phantoms. You can have one, too. Of course, I am not the final judge, but real word names should be fine in and of themselves. Just don't give your Spectre a green and white costume. Buy that is not true within this game. Example, when I got back playing, I found that the name Hobgoblin was available. I made a female that didn't sport the yellow and blue that the comic version wore. By all means that toon had no resemblance to the comic book character. A word that has been around longer than Marvel comics but yet it was reported and stripped. It happens and the Devs don't play. tidge
I ended up renaming two characters with names I wanted long ago upon character creation which had previously been "camped". I debated if I really wanted to do the rename(s) and I decided to, basically because I'd already invested time in those characters, originally wanted those names, and One character's original (to me) name was a simple extension of the name I originally wanted but could not get One character's original (to me) name was supposed to be a pun, but since the pun name was not available I had gone with the non-pun version I was thinking about playing up a new character with from scratch for #1, but I wasn't planning any changes I can't do on a second build so *poof rename*. For #2, while I got comments on the character's non-pun name, I'd rather have the pun name! There were two names I wanted from my Live roster that weren't available.
