That show was awesome!  The Smithsonian had a big display about a decade ago about the show and how it was a key factor in the expansion of the paramedic program in the United States.

The full story is really amazing.  For once, primetime TV was not just amusement, but a powerful, positive force for change.

I really need to find that show and rewatch it.

I had no horse in this race (There weren't any particular names I was looking to grab, and I was in no danger of losing any). But I am frankly surprised at how many folks are managing to get the exact names they wanted. I'm happy for them, but it also makes me kinda sad, because it implies that there were a bunch of folks who signed up early on, snagged good names, and then just quit playing for whatever reason.

I kinda agree with this...and kinda don't. HC made an epic mistake in giving 1,000 slots per shard. Ridiculous. They still refuse to reduce that number.

I think enough warnings went out and if people didn't log in to save their names etc, then maybe they don't care to play anymore.

I half expected there to be a sudden market selling names. Still might happen, like way back when people were snatching up company names when the internet got popular. People grabbed company .com names and were selling them. No idea how successful they were in that.

The really horrible thing was, this started when it was still against the rules to use the Internet to make money. Didn't take long for that rule to go away. Money tends to do that.

Y'all are gonna have me make a empathy Defender named Dixie McCall, aren't ya? 🤣🤣🤣

EDIT: going with Symphony/Empathy Controller, since Julie was a singer. Will post a pic when I finish putting her together.

Raise your hand if you had a crush on Julie London back in the day

I didn't realize there were other people that got excited to get their pets' names.  That's so awesome. 🙂

Chloe is the name of one of my cats.    And one of my globals is named for a cat I used to be a caretaker for.  (It's probably not very common,  mistranslated Lebanese...)

I did name a bunch of cats at a rescue after some Champions characters...

👍

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

The same can be said about Star Trek.  For the rest of his life after Star Trek, James Doohan (who played Scotty) had people telling him that they had decided to become engineers because of his character.

Regarding the thread topic, I checked and Alloy is still not available on Everlasting.  I have him at level 50 and fully incarnate over on Excelsior.

I also checked Speedfire and that is available.  I decided not to bother renaming Speed-Fire (fire/kin corr) since he's also 50 and fully incarnate already.  And I don't need a new one.  If Alloy had been available, I would have made a new one and leveled him on Everlasting.

Originally on Infinity.  I have Ironblade on every shard.  -  My only AE arc:  The Origin of Mark IV  (ID 48002)

Link to the story of Toggle Man, since I keep having to track down my original post.

I don't there is anyplace streaming it for free. A bunch of places have it but you have to buy it.

I think Dixie came out OK. It's not a complicated costume. I'll probably continue to tweak it a bit.
