I received a recipe for the "Pet: Mini Kheldian Bright Nova".  It cannot be damaged, but does no damage, buffs, nor debuffs.  To make, it costs 2.5 million + 20 Alien Blood Samples.  Even if I could get the salvage pieces at 500k each, I would be looking at a total cost of 12.5 million.  My question is, if I made it and used it for showing off, would anyone even realize what went into making it?  (Or I suppose I could run a number of  Mission Architect missions in AE mode, using those merits to trade for the Alien Blood Samples.)

Some people must want it, because there are currently 47 bids for one in the AH, with shown prices being between 5 to 7 million.  Obvious thing for me to do is sell it, but part of me wants to show off to the uncaring masses.

Keeping it and crafting it makes you a better human being.

I, for one, would think more highly of you if you did so.

Sounds pretty mad scientist to me.  You're gonna collect 20 random alien blood samples so you can give unlife to this little monstrosity?!

I'm rather ignorant about the minis and don't really ever see them on teams. So take that for what it is worth.

The 'Pet Minii Hamidon Bud' recipe requires 20 Hamidon Goo, so it's right in line with the other stupidly-expensive pets. At least the Kheldian mini-pets won't be confused with valid targets, the way a Hamidon Bud pet can during the post-defeat bud-clearing phase, when the scrum is tight enough you can't tell whether you're not clicking on it properly or the tab-targeting is going somewhere else.

First, I want to commend the OP for asking the question. It's not easy to open such floodgates where people freely tell you how wonderful or evil you are.

Second, grats on the drop. Whether you craft it or not, the folks that will understand the expense will be the nosy and/or greedy people like me, and what I like to fondly refer to as the enthusiasts - who endeavor to collect all of them.

So, here's an alt of mine: image.thumb.png.e02ff19bf811663bd8a661a29e58c12e.png

When I am in the Abyss waiting for things to kick off, I'll be nosy and click on players whose names are unknown to me and see what there is to see. Sometimes, it's an interesting bio, and sometimes, I'm kind of surprised to see "out of the box" builds - like a blaster that doesn't take an epic armor. Like - it would never have occurred to me to not take one, so that's pretty interesting to me.

But I also see these vanity pets. This alt of mine doesn't have a complete collection..and it may never get them. Time will tell. I am hoping to wait until crafting pet recipes counts toward the crafting badge. I'm afraid I was already through a lot of them before I noticed the counter wasn't counting. (supposedly marked to be fixed next patch)

I initially assumed anyone that spent inf on these was either too flush with inf/merits/prismatics for their own good, or they genuinely find the pets rewarding. I don't know that anyone will think you're an awesome player for having them, but ultimately we each have to please ourselves, right? So, for this goofy character of mine - I've been doing things I rarely ever do. Piss away inf (opportunity cost) on various things like pets for starters.

So, I say craft it or not, do what you like. But I think if you craft a lot of them, that might be something folks notice more...

I am not at a state where I am prepared to spend the money I need to create the pets I have recipes for, but I will make them.  Oh yes.  They will be mine.

And some people will know what it took, in general terms, to make them.  And others might see the pet, want one for themselves, and then discover what you put into getting it.

But ultimately it's about you.  Do you want the pet?  For any reason?  If so, then go for it.

Doesn't matter if you fancy it some part of your character concept, a conversation starter, or just a thing you have for personal satisfaction.  If you want it, and are willing to pay the price involved in getting it, then go for it.  Hopefully when the job is done and after some time has passed you will still think the cost well worth it.
