I'm just wondering if anyone uses Spirit Tree and if so, how did you find a way to make it useful?

I have a Plant/ Thorn Dominator that I am playing (concept character) and this is the only healing available to them, but it's pretty useless. It doesn't heal you fast enough to be useful in combat, and outside of combat, you can just use Rest.

So, if you found a way to make it worthwhile, please share.

Rolling gag back on live with my crew was: You needed a dead body first before we planted one. lol.

One time, a buddy dropped and then bam 4 spirit trees showed up, lol.   But it's not a bad power, but a lot times folks need slots elsewhere.  It works well in stacking department with Triage Beacon.

It is more useful in leveling content and a team that will work to pull enemies to it to fight rather than just "Hulk smash".

It can be useful when fighting bosses or giant monsters that tend to say in one place. Plant it when a fight with one of those gets to going so it benefits the melee characters and then move back.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Spirit tree is excellent

It's doubly excellent once you understand its limitations.

It's not a heal, per se. It's description is pretty accurate - it's a regen power that is fire and forget and it benefits your entire group so if you can get the mobs to come to you, and it's slotted well it helps greatly. Personally I tend to only stick a couple fo good heal IOs in it - if you have Hasten I think you can get it perma so it's always there when you need it. I have a few plant trollers and I always take it because its cost is very small for the benefits it brings.

I would imagine pairing it with Traps and Triage Beacon would be fantastic. 100% regen

The Panacea Proc works in Spirit Tree (or Triage Beacon) and if you have enough recharge to keep multiple copies of it out then it can provide a very noticeable boost to both you and any surrounding allies (e.g. teammates and/or pets).

The downside is that since it's not mobile you need to keep resummoning it, which eats into your killspeed unless you're turtling up whilst fighting ambushes or an AV/GM (/Traps Masterminds have it a bit easier there since they're naturally slower moving, they don't personally deal the bulk of the damage and they have plenty of pets to affect)

On your specific combo, I would only use it as a 1slot mule for Preventative Medicine proc and basically ignore the power, otherwise.

Sounds lame, but Doms are one of those ATs where slots are usually more valuable than power picks.

I'd also add I've used it a lot in the Weddings, and it's excellent there because the kill zones are close by. It'd fail horribly on Numina or similar but I am not one for speed running at the best of times so I'm happy to kill slowly.

If you work well with a good taunter, you can do a great deal of damage fast. Plant has some amazing AoEs, so with Spirit Tree keeping you going and the tank keeping most of the aggro off you, you could breeze through most instanced maps

Two Plant/Somethings and a good tank would be completely devastating in most scenarios I reckon.

I think that Spirit Tree (and Triage Beacon) are vestigial powers from a completely different era of the game, in which:

  • Leveling was slow (including different debt profiles)
  • Fitness pool was not inherent
  • There were fewer pool choices with more utility at the levels of Spirit Tree and Triage Beacon, especially (but not limited to) travel powers at level 4.

Notice I didn't have to initially list all the other reasons I prefer to not take such powers:

  • Inspirations can be used on-demand
  • Greater accessibility to enhancement set bonuses/globals (regeneration, recovery, but also Defense and Healing/Absorb)
  • 'fast-moving' through maps

I agree that there can be content where such a power offers some demonstrable utility; but generally I find them to be inferior power picks compared to other options.

I don't think anyone uses Spirit Tree. Even when CoV launched and we weren't overpowered deathballs, the buff was just not that good, the recharge too long.

It's also a really weird power. It's a pure buff power, but it's in a Control set. It's theming seems totally at odds with the rest of the set, being some kind of mystical, ethereal ghost plant. And it makes the same sound effect as Blazing Aura, a fire-themed damage power. Just top-to-bottom, a bizarre power.

I do.

Just not on a Dominator.

IMO it has its place on Controllers that have buffs/debuffs but no healing. I'd much rather take it over the Medicine pool on a Plant/Cold for example. But I always aim to be able to double stack it and slot a Panacea in there.

I use Spirit Tree. On my Plant/ Nature Controller, I try to drop one on the lifegiving spores patch. But mostly, it's a comfy spot for a 5x Panacea set of bonuses.

It is a buff power in a control set, that's why the buff isn't that good and the long recharge.....kind of like how some buff sets have a hold that isn't as good as the holds in control sets.

I think this discussion says more about playstyle than power efficacy. If you move fast and plough ahead you're probably not going to find Spirit Tree or any static power to be of great benefit - especially if you don't want to destroy all in your path. But if like me you're a player who prefers to go steady, get all the xpees you can then it's a great benefit. Horses for courses so to speak.

As always that's one of the great things about this game that I don't experience so much in others - I can play may way.

that is funny, the team planted a memorial garden

These days it sees most of its use in hami raids. Everywhere else, the critters don't do enough damage or stay alive long enough for it to be worth anything.

Except that Triage Beacon, which is in a buff set, has the same stats and recharge.

Triage beacon sucks. It should be revamped to act more like Nature Affinity's Lifegiving Sports.....a toggle you can drop and pick up without a long recharge.

I like that Lifegiving Spores has a 4s recharge and can be redeployed easily. I would endorse this change for Spirit Tree and Triage Beacon. That said, I find that Lifegiving Spore's healing effects are too weak to make much difference and only worth deploying in prolonged fights. I have it on my Fire/Nature controller but skipped it on my Nature/Seismic defender.

Also, they really should fix the graphics of all 3 powers to properly show the extent of the AoE. You would never know it from the graphics, but Spirit Tree and Triage Beacon both have 40 ft radii while Lifegiving Spores has a 15 ft radius.

I wouldn't be adverse to giving it some mobility, but I definitely don't want it becoming a toggle. That'd cut the shenanigans in half at least.
