Hi Guys,

I woke up early today. Jumped on a toon parked at Adamaster ritual to see what kind of clock I had for 16 easy merits. He was ready to summon. So, I announced it in LFG. "Adamaster ready for summon". I jump up to get some coffee to come back to see a couple people have shown up. I look around to see a level 4 hovering off the platform furthest from Ada summoning him. Pop, there he is. Total crap show after that.

So, I send him a chat that that was a rotten thing to do, so I get back "you are right...asking for more people to come to zone to spawn monster and then not offering to team up so everyone can get badge/merits...it IS a rotten thing to do...glad you agree".

Question: Is there some unwritten rule or obligation to team up people if you announce? Might be easier to log on other accounts and multibox solo it.

I do see people saying "Ada in x minutes, not inviting" or some such from time to time as well as for other GMs/events. So, I guess that may be the closest to a "precedent" for things like that. That being said, the other person was a massive douche.

i always assume positive intent as maybe the person is lower level and hoping a 50 will pop on to assemble the team.  Or the person is just not comfortable leading.

Personally I will make a butthead of myself and form a group good or bad and not afraid to make mistakes or fall flat on my face.

There are polite or courteous ways of summoning & fighting Ada, and there are selfish ones.  I wouldn't say there are any "obligations", though...

So we shouldn't RP summon Adamastor to feed him players then?  Gotcha.

Based on the very limited amount of information in the OP, I'm not sure how I feel about this instance.

Even so: I really can't imagine a solo level 4 having a reason to spawn Adamastor... level 4 characters can bare get through Ouroboros to Echo: DA anyway. (I know it is 'trivial' but I feel like I spend so little time below level 8 I can't imagine how Adamastor became a priority for a solo level 4 player!)

As for the missing pieces of information... normally there is some amount of in zone broadcast and/or tells after such an announcement... before summoning... even if it is just "please wait", so if none of this happened... everyone was salty.

TBH: the only thing I see (in recent times)  about the Admastor summons that I find annoying is the player(s) who camp their multiple alts there, and resummon it every hour just to multiibox it with 3+ Lore pets. I don't care if they "politiely announce" their intention to resummon... its the Nx16 merits they want, a courtesy announcement isn't absolving the greed.

Level 4 can ask someone drop an Ouroboros portal at Ms. Liberty. People will do it. Run around back and port into Echo: DA. You've still got your free jetpack so they can fly there with no issues. Join a 50's group and score some merits. I've never done it, but that's as easy as it could get.

And what is a solo level 4 bringing to Echo Dark Astoria to help with Adamastor? And why would the solo level 4 be the one to summon it?

Ok, bit odd.

I've been a lowbie in KR and called for help with the Three Paladins, saying "hey peeps, I'm only lvl X, but Pally is up", I reckon that's different.

If you announce it, you are pretty much saying you are recruiting and/or you are willing to join a team to run/do/defeat whatever it is you are announcing.

You have to ask yourself  if you want to be part of the community and help build it or if your goal is to upset other players that want to join in something you are announcing by ignoring their response to your announcement?

That is to say, are you announcing something so that you can use others to achieve your own goals and you don't expect them to get anything out it?

Maybe you should just announce "I need some bodies to get something going, but don't even think I'm going to team up with you so that you can get a reward for helping me do what I want to do."

Maybe you are playing villains. I expect different kinds of behavior from villains/rogues than I do heroes/vigilantes.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

What exactly is the "BS"?

Is it other players wanting to join up to help you or, at least, fight alongside you while you battle to achieve your goals?

Is the "BS" all the other members of the community? or just the ones that want to team up with you?

You do seem to be pretty frustrated.

It sounds like that level 4 that wanted to play was frustrated too.

I think it is good to not be frustrated about things.

But then I like PuG'ing and running around with people that I have no idea how they are going to behave when we confront our foes, watch the chaos happen, and then revel when a team gels and turns into smooth-running superhero team up.

But maybe that's just me.

And people wonder why I prefer to solo or team with friends or people that I know. I'll do open world stuff, but it certainly isn't my first choice. And often game mechanics has nothing to do with why.

I'm all over the place with this post.

I have gone to Echo:DA with my lowbie before and I don't ask for a team because I don't need one. I let someone else summon, and I'll use the temp powers - nem staff, and black wand or whatever it's called, and hope I don't miss. I'll look for those orange numbers if I'm unteamed. As to the why: I get bored. I could easily drop some funds off to my alt and forgo the endless hustle for reward merits. But to me, some characters are more interesting to me when I invest a certain "lift yourself up by your own bootstraps" kind of play. So, yeah, those 16 merits are very helpful for a lowbie.

I've also been the level 20-40 wanting a team so I can get the badge. I've also been the 50 that just wants the merits and doesn't want to spend my energy typing out recruiting calls, and I've been the 50 that foolishly recruits only for invariably, someone else summoning Adamastor when I still have 3 people en route to the platform - that occasionally get pissy with me for not waiting when I didn't even do the summoning.

It all depends on the character I'm on and my mood. If the level 4 is disappointed because you broadcasted and didn't invite, that's a nice problem to have, compared to all the other things that could go wrong. But I do think it makes no sense to broadcast/recruit for something you have no intention of leading. Heck, even the level 4 can broadcast, and invite other players to league - and keep those other teams led by a 50, while they remain at level 4. As long as they get a hit in, they get paid. If you have 3-4 other people, one is likely cool enough to offer to sk that level 4 and take over the recruiting/league management.

In my mind, the issue is created by the level 4. If they wanted to team up, it was upon them to do the inviting. Yes, at level 4. Invite to league. Then they can communicate without surprising everyone with the immediate greying out of their toggles, and dismissal of any pets.

I've hit this bump before. I don't like to lead. It's a me thing, for sure. So if I happen upon a GM in the wild on a character that could solo it, am I obligated to broadcast it even with the intention that I'm not going to do any recruiting or should I just wade in and if anyone else happens by, hooray for them? The etiquette for this can be all over the place, depending on who you ask.

When I see an Ada announcement, I head to DA and broadcast 1 time "Here for Ada if there's a team". If I get an invite, great! If not, no hard feelings. I already know where and when it will spawn, I don't really need a team, I just gotta get a couple hits in. Though I don't think I've ever gone there with a level 4.

I do not believe the player who announces Ada has any obligation to form a team/league.

Honestly, if they're going to bring up the notion of obligation I'd think there would be at least an equivalent obligation to bring an alt to a GM fight that could meaningfully add to the battle.

Why even take the time and effort to get a L4 to the Ada battle anyways?  Plant an alt at the location, maybe a leveled alt with some decent powers capable of assisting.  My L50s that don't see much play any more, I plant their flag on the Ada platform and I rotate through them for 16 merits as time permits.

But I don't mind folks leeching for merits, a rising tide lifts all boats and all that, its just that one needs to be extra-careful when throwing rocks while in their glass house.  There just isn't much room to stand on "obligation" here when they were going to add nothing to the experience themselves.
