So does the Hero/Villain have to be a Natural Origin to be eligible to enter?
-
I am just wondering what you mean by Stealth powers (in this case Arctic Fog) and MM's don't work together? Just saying this as I am just starting a Demons/Cold and trying to figure out a build.

Have you given thought about our Lord and Master /Traps? With your FFG you run decreased risk of getting mezz'd plus the divine touch of +def. With Caltrops you can have your foes run to and fro....if they could escape the clutches of your holy Fire Cages and Hot Feet. Also for that added kick you can plant a Poison Trap that will hold everyone around you, plus a Trip mine to send them up to the heavens....in pieces. Seriously though I am only level 18 and already can see a lot of power in this build.

Storm, TA, Nature. Overall Earth/Storm is a force of nature, pun intended, not only do you get insane amount of controls but once you get your Stone pet which is a great tank, but Tornado and Lightning Storm you don't need a team. It is one of the top controller builds out there. Earth/TA is a Controller's Controller. You can double stack Slows, ST holds, AOE Holds. You can have mobs flopping around using Earthquake while you pile on the debuffs of TA. Warning though this is a team build as your damage is quite low. At 50 you do ok solo, but that is not where it's true strength lies. Earth/Nature is another good team build. This combo is basically "I choose this as the ground I battle on" you have a lot of location AOE effects that can heal your team and debuff the mobs.

We have all reached a special milestone as of Nov. 30th 2019
Tacheyon replied to Voltor's topic in General Discussion
I started COH back in Closed Beta. Ever since I first heard of it (heck I think I still have the OG trailer somewhere saved) I wanted to play it. My first character was a FF/Rad Defender Quantum Foam. She never made 50 on account of the other more 'Shiny' heroes (and later Villains). But I always kept her as she was the first. And for 8 years I played this game (maybe a small break here and there), collected that initial run of comics you got being a subscriber. And I loved it. Because it was really different from all the other Fantasy MMO's out there. And yes I played my fair share of Asheron's Call, WoW, Aion and a couple others, but I always came back to CoH. Then the news hit, everything was going to shutdown. That cored me. So I did what everyone else did, try and play as much as I could. Finished many Heroes and Villains to 50, hit the old TF's one last time, kept up hope that a last minute deal would come through and things would work out. But then NCSoft showed their true colours and basically said "F--- Y-- this is mine and no one else's" and shut it down so they could devote those resources into Guild Wars 2 because they only had enough money to spare for 1 North American game. So on November 30th I logged into Freedom and my lv 50 Earth/Storm Controller Canadian Diamond and waited on the steps of City Hall. But as fate would have it I got dropped due to immense server lag on Freedom. Due to this and maybe life being funny I logged onto Pinnacle and watched the sun set with my first hero Quantum Foam. Took some last screenshots and watch my connection get terminated. After that I bounced around looking for a game that I could create completely original characters and build stories for. Mass Effect and BioWare games helped a lot. But I could never find another MMO quite like CoH. Then 7 years later, I hear that someone had saved CoH and made it public for people to use. My hands shook as I installed Tequila and my eyes watered at the music when the Log -In screen came up. And a manly tear went down my face as I walked up to Ms Liberty ready to start a new story.... Thank you Homecoming Team for all your hard work to not only get this game out, but to try and secure a long future for it. Long live City of Heroes! -
Thinking of trying something different and thought up a concept for a Dark/TA villian. But I am trying to find a good way to light Oil Slick (when I get there). I am thinking of using Enflame from Sorcery and light up my final pet. Since that does fire damage it should work. Without going into the Epic Power Pool Fire, is there any other way to Light My Fire?

Just out of curiosity. If I bring a Magician to be judged that is considered a "Classic" costume? Or should I just make ready my Zombie or Witch one.

Finally was able to donate. Thank you for all your hard work.

I am trying to do a Fire/Poison controller. Just life and my Alt-ites is getting in the way. It is a PBAOE nuking build. I am also taking Poison Trap and will be loading it up with damage procs for just to really make things interesting. So I recently started a Ninja/Kin (basically someone who uses a chemical to enhance their (and henchmen) performance. But each time she needs more and more to achieve greatness, so basically I made a heroic drug addict (which I think I'll turn bad in order to support their habit). I have gotten to 22 and I have started to slot basic IO's into everything. Build wise I think I am fine, everything seems straightforward. The only Kin power I am not taking is repel (although state your case if I should). I already have the leadership auras and hasten. But now I am wondering what are the strategies some people are employing for this type of build. Are you building for Tankermind? Or just sending in everyone and hoping to kill everything before they kill you? Anyone's experiences will be helpful, thanks.

What sort of MM build would be best at farming?
Tacheyon replied to Pale_Enchantress's topic in Mastermind
Actually you mean the Bruiser has foot stomp. Also a few of the Enforcer pistol/uzi attacks are AoE/Cone as well. And once you have the Bruiser then you already have your tank and your thugs and enforcers can sit back in relative safety. -
So I am having fun leveling up my fire/fire Sent. Only lvl 27, but looking at maybe respeccing and dropping Fire Blast as I really don't want to be wasting triggering a Oppertunity for the DEF buff. I was thinking about picking up Fire Breath but looking at all the builds on the website I see that no one takes it. Is it that bad? I see the power activation time is 2.67secs. But there are other attacks that long. I was just looking at adding another AoE attack to my chain if possible.

I just started a Necro/Nature. So far (only 14) having fun with it, and can see some good potential down the line. Went with magically corrupted dirt my villain/hero was buried in, brought them back to life in a half undead state. Now /Dark is a really good fit with them. I was thinking /Kin but aside from the 1st skill melee ranged heal, Kinetics doesn't have much in mitigation. You can try /Therm as that not only heals but covers their weakness to Fire damage. Cold could do most of it (you would need to take Heal Other) and have more CC and debuffs. Damn...now my creative mind just whipped up a couple more alts. Back to the Character Creator!

So looking to expand my horizons from Controllers and MM's and I was looking at Doms. Martial Assault intrigued me but I couldn't find a primary that fit a good concept. Then I looked at Elec and saw the chain aspects of some of it's powers and I got a idea and concept for a character. I have preliminary build but I haven't seen much combining the two powersets. Just looking for a couple pointers on what maybe I am missing or I shouldn't be taking. I am looking to do a lot of AOE damage, while not necessarily in Melee, I took Dragon's Tail and Caltrops for close encounters. Thanks in advance. So a thought crossed my mind about doing a out of the box controller. Or at least getting away from my usual TA, Storm, Traps rut. Then I thought of Poison. I liked it on my Thugs/Poison especially Noxious Gas on my Bruiser. So I thought I could do the same except with the Earth pet. Then I read that it is only castable on yourself. Then I started thinking about Fire and how there are some good symmetries between them. So I have a build (just power selection) and just going to put it out there and see what people think. My main strat with this build is smoke a mob, then debuff them with Envenom and Weaken, turn on Burn and Venomous Gas run in and use Bonfire or Fire cages to set up Containment. For tough bosses/AV/EB's set a poison trap to knock out their regen. Apply holds as needed. Anyway here is the beginning of a crazy idea. Ahh Thugs/Traps. My first 50. It is so much fun to play. If only I kept my final build before shutdown. I have tried to recreate the wheel and fit in a few new things that have been added. One thing about this build is Heal Other. I put it in because leveling you will need it to keep things alive due to a lucky shot or your Arsonist wants to be a brute. But once you get to 50 and start Slotting FFG and maneuvers you and your pets DEF should be soft capped and you can switch it with something else. Also another trick is to summon your Thugs and Enforcers give them Equip Thugs, THEN summon your bruiser and now give out the final Upgrade. This is because Equip gives your bruiser Hurl. Which can bug out the AI and have him stay at range and only use that skill. So either you are constantly re-positioning him to melee, or skip it and he is fine. Taking Leadership skills gives all your pets Triple buffs (one for each Enforcer and then your buffs). I would keep the -res proc in Enforcers and maybe switch the Build Up proc to something else (+tohit or +Def). If you are careful and plan accordingly you can take out AV's with this build solo. But it is also very fun just letting everyone cut loose on a bunch of mobs as well. Villain Plan by Mids' Villain Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! Earth/Storm is great in a team and late game very powerful solo. I am still leveling Earth/Dark and fiddling around with Nature, so I can't help you there. But if you really want a team orientated build. I'll second (and/or third) Earth/TA. This is the Ultimate Controller. EMP and Gases for AOE holds (hell throw in Oil slick and Gases lights it). Ice Arrow and Fossilize for ST holds. Quicksand and Glue for slow and -def. You have enough controls to keep everything in check even if your team pulls way too much to handle. It's ok because you can keep things in check. Just don't look to actually kill something fast. You let those cute little scrappers and blasters do that simple work. You are not playing a FPS, you are a general in a RTS. Controlling choke points, doing threat assessment, making sure your allies are progressing through the mob and where the next assault will come. Anyway it's just something to think about as well.

Anyone have a build to share for Earth/Nature? I am...asking ....for a friend. ...Yes that should work... 8)

So I thought of a character concept for a Dark/Storm controller. But I am having trouble getting a build down that I like. It's more just the early game is going to suck due to low damage. Endgame is going to be chaotic as hell with everything I can bring to the field. Here is what I am thinking of doing for a leveling build (which is why I took Shadowy Binds). Let me know what you think, I normally run Earth/ controllers, so I am kind of in the dark about this (pun intended). Well, thank you for another Alt you gave me an idea for. Anyway here is something I whipped up that should work for a basic leveling power selection. I didn't pick a level 49 power as I am not sure. Howling twilight is a nice -Regen power, but you need someone dead for it to work. I took it later because there are a few more needed powers earlier on. Your basic opening is going to be Grav Dist, Lift, Propel for damage. Then for more groups you can lock things down with Crushing Field and then lay down a Tar patch and Darkest night for the debuffs. That is what I got right off the bat. Slotting well, that takes time and you don't really need it right away, unless you farm 1-50 in 2 hours.

Thank you...I thought I had just burned out of creating Alts (for the moment) so I can focus on getting a couple of them to 50 at least. Now I have a new one. Grav/Traps/???: New to the Control Game. Request slotting assistance.
Tacheyon replied to ThrillMill's topic in Controller
The role of the Controller is to well, Control. Control the enemy and make the battlefield yours! You don't put up the big numbers, you help set up other to do them. If you are doing your job well, no one really notices (unless you are using Earth control then everyone sees your stuff), you are the one looking for the annoying trash (in this case Tsoo Sorcerers) to lock down before they have a chance to teleport or hurricane your team. Now you do have to be aware of the Magnitude attribute. All CC's have them (and conversely you and enemies have a resistance) the higher the Mag def the more you have to layer your CC's to effect them. Your Gravity Distortion has a Mag 3 hold. This covers LT and lower (LT's have a Mag 3 Def) so that if you hit them, you will hold them right away. A Boss has a Mag 4 def, this means you have to hit your Grav Dist on it twice (while the 1st is still in effect) for him to be held. So this is where trying to find a good balance between recharge and (in this case) hold effects come into play when Enhancing your powers. Now Grav Dist has a base hold time of 22 seconds so you normally will be able to layer a hold 2 before the 1st wears off. One recharge or one hold is enough. Usually, you want to focus on Accuracy as you can't hold something even you can't hit. Now with /Traps you are there to debuff your enemies so that they go down faster. Acid Morter, FFG, Poison Trap are your bread and butter. Acid reduces Defences, Poison has a minor hold buff kills any Regen. FFG helps give protection to your team in +DEF and Mez Def. Don't take Time Bomb. Too many times you'll either die setting it up, or it won't go off when you want. Trip Mine is better. Lay a few of those with a Poison Trap and Wormhole a MOB onto it. Fun Times. Continue to advance your Controller, they are the thinking man (and woman) AT. They may take some time to bloom (usually around 32) but they are not useless. What you want to do is read these forums as well as the archive ones from before the shutdown (https://web.archive.org/web/20121108232155/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/). Lots of build ideas and reading to help with your journey. -
What secondary goes well with Thugs? Yes. Ok, long answer. Thugs are not classed as a Tier 1 pet for nothing. They have a lot of tools in of themselves to make them good. Good damage in the T1 pets (especially when you get the arsonist, just keep him away from melee), T2 pets that buff you and your other pets (if you have both out the effects stack), as well as steady DPS, and finally your T3 Brusier that can take a beating (and give it out), just avoid giving him the 1st upgrade (Equip Thugs) as this gives him Hurl and can cause him to stay at range indefinitely. Then you have Gang War...basically it's a way to clog up the battlefield and create some anarchy. What you are doing with your secondary is figuring how you want to help them do their thing. I played a lot of /Thugs ever since they came out. Heck I was iffy on MM's as a whole till then. My most fun character was a Thugs/Traps. Heck I didn't even slot her out that well and I could solo AV's most of the time (AOE sucks). Acid Morter just wreaks defenses (put a -resist Io and then start melting), Poison Trap could make even Wolverine's healing factor pause. FFG stacks with the manueavers of your Enforcers (and you when you take it) to help mezz protect everyone and capp DEF. Triage beacon isn't a heal but more for long fights that keeps everyone topped up, it just doesn't deal well with burst damage. I also got a /Poison to 50. A little more squishy then my /Traps but she could also point to one thing and say DIE. Basically, this set makes everything you hunt weaker than you. And the synergy with Noxious Gas and your Brusier is great. Load him up with that and point him to a group and watch them puke or hit him with Nerf weapons. /Sonic is one I didn't quite get to 50, but was having great success with. The shields give +RES so while it doesn't have synergy with your Enforcer buffs you don't get hit as hard. Disruption Field also had good synergy with your brusier yet again to send him in and weaken everyone's RES. /Storm is just insanity. Ragdoll physics everywhere. Enemies can't hit you if they are not standing up. Steamy mist provides +DEF and Hurricane can at least keep enemies from approaching your Thugs and Enforcers. /FF is great because nothing can hit you. But I didn't take it very far because the whole powerset is BORING (IMO) once you set up your shields the hard part is over. As I said earlier, Thugs work with everything. It just comes down to your playstyle and how much chaos you want to cause!
