I have to also throw my hat in for Earth/Storm. It was my main on Live and my 2nd lv 50 (first was Thugs/Traps). At the beginning it doesn't seem like much, but late game it is a beast. As stated earlier it is matched only with Earth/TA for zone control. With Freezing Rain and Earthquake you can have mobs flopping all over the place at will. With Stalagmites and Thunder Clap you can stun bosses fast. Volcanic Gases is the best AOE hold in the game because of it's pulsing nature (so it sends out a bunch of small holds over the course of 30 secs) so you can in the right circumstances hold a AV on your own (albeit for a short time). And while you are doing that Tornado, Lightning Storm are chewing up the mobs and your Pet is tanking whatever isn't controlled. Also Quicksand and Stone Cages floors your enemies Def. Skip Salt Crystals, O2 and maybe Snow Storm. You can then either go into Ice or Earth Epic's and come out even stronger (Ice get Armour, Hibernate, Ice Storm/ Earth - Fissure, Seismic Strike (another hold plus really good damage and Rock Armour)

There are two different options for that. So read carefully! Don't ask how I know this. LOL

In the options tab go to the Keybinds tab and scroll to the botton. There is a option for Toggle Screenshot UI. You can set up a keybind (I use Ctrl-Z) to toggle it.

Jan. 23rd - Color Theory theme costume contest!
Tacheyon replied to GM Kaiju's topic in Events & Contests
A challenge yes. But a welcomed one. I figure I would just make a new one based on a build I'd like to try out. -

I am assuming that B&W grey scale is out of contention? As we already had that contest a few months ago. -
What server do you run this event on?

How The Heck Do I Make Myself Make a Dominator?
Tacheyon replied to Clave Dark 5's topic in Dominator
I also have started on this new path. My classes of choice where Controllers and MMs. So far I have had success and fun with a few combos. Earth/Earth, Fire/Earth, Plant/Savage are all fun to play and have a good mix of damage and control. Earth/Earth is very SMASH. All the powers hit like (pun intended) a Rock. Earth Control has a sickening amount of controls to exploit. I would suggest skipping Salt Crystals (no one uses even on Controllers) the T1 Immob, and also Quicksand as it takes a long time to cast and your build is tight on space for it. Rather sue Stalagmites as your opener to stun and disrupt the Alpha of groups then place a Earthquake to keep them flopping. Earth Assault is all about Knock-ups and downs. You can usually juggle a single mob quite well. Overall pretty safe but quite End hungry. Fire/Earth is a very nice damage with a slight dip in control. This is a more AOE centric build as you have two aura powers (Mud Pots and Hot Feet), along with Tremor and Fissure. You don't have to take Smoke and the T1. When you get Bonfire slot a KB to KD enhancement in it right away. That way your team doesn't kick you when you fling Mobs all over the place. I do suggest using Earth Control to start. It's a very safe control set if low damage. Next would be Dark. Plant and Fire lean more toward damage (although Seeds of Confusion is really nice). At the end of the day some combos are easier to master then others, but all are fun. For me it's all about the creation of the character itself. Not the powers or the damage. -
Electrical Affinity I find is great on them. Fast healing, good resists and you can also refill their Endurance during long fights. It's a busy set, lots of clicks but it gets the job done really well. The only thing is Amp Up (the T9) doesn't work on your pets so that sucks. Hopefully one day they fix that.

December 26th - Retro Theme Costume Contest!
Tacheyon replied to GM Kaiju's topic in Events & Contests
Yes there was one runner up that used mostly the Retro Space pieces but how he coloured it was quite well done and in a 30's comic book style. The winner used a bunch of the Cyberpunk pieces but also went full 80's and did everything in bright neon blue and orange. Ok so some people just used one specific theme of costume pieces to do their look. But doing a RETRO theme is tough because there are too few ways costume pieces in the game to convey a retro look. I spent a couple hours trying different ways to flesh out my 80's punk rocker that was also a Geokinetic. But I got close enough to make runner up on my server. And the costumes that did place were diverse. One of the issues I saw on my server were people just showing up in costumes that didn't fit the theme. It was just "Random Edgelord #6" or "Bare Skin Female" with a Retro Rocket on her back. I can understand some frustration on your part, absolutely. Would having a few more GM on the voting team be helpful? Sure. But their team is also judging simultaneously every server at the same time to avoid other issues. So they have to balance what they can do with how they would like to do things. I have been to many of these and not won. But they are run (for the most part) smoothly and I have fun looking at all the other costumes and maybe grabbing an idea or two for my next hero/villain. -
The only "Repel" power is in Hurricane. Everything else is either a straight KB (gale, tornado, L Storm) or KD (Freezing rain) and those KB's can be slotted with KB to KD enhancements. I know because I have quite a few Storm characters from Controllers to MM's I am glad you found something that suits you. But please makes sure you have the correct information when counter-arguing a point.
-
I would go Storm/Arch(or Water) Defender. Huge AOE potential there. Slot in a KB/Kd, range and Acc in Gale and spam to keep them knocked down. Freezing Rain and Rain of arrows or whirlpool/geyser/steam spray. Hmmm...Thanks now I have another Alt to create!
-
That I cannot help you as I haven't yet gotten to that step. Usually I get to 50 and then move on to other Heroes waiting to be played. I would think anything that would improve your Def, HP or Resist would be good.
-
I know Blasters are near the top of classes to play. And I appreciate all the hard work you do to make this game better including all the new powers. But, MAN! I was really hoping this Sonic Power was a new Controller Primary. It's cool though, I am okay. It's not like I am a Controller-holic and looking for a new fix....*twitch* .. no, not at all*twitch**twitch*

1) It's so you can slot another Luck +5% recharge in it. And no you can't use it on your pets. But if you team and use it on your teammate your pet does get the buff (if in range) 2) It helps if you have a couple spawns close together and you only want to take one of them on. Plus every bit of -tohit helps your pets live longer. IMO it's worth it. But you do what works for you. If you find it's not working for you or your play style then by all means drop it.
-
Yes...yes it is amazing! Don't let anyone dissuade from that fact. Things melt under this. Of course so do your pets if things don't die fast. I got one to 50 but haven't fleshed out the build yet. This is what I am working on. Now originally I did take Fire mastery and Bonfire with Char so i can hold Bosses. But really what you are trying to do is go for maximum burn. So you should be focusing on making sure things don't get out of your burn fields, that is why I dropped Ice Arrow and put more focus into Glue, Web Envelope. Also it made room for Heal Other, so you can keep your Brusier or suicidal Arsonist alive. Even Flash Arrow helps with giving you a couple extra seconds to set up the kill field, along with hitting them with a nice -toHit debuff. Also Take Poison arrow earlier as the -dmg helps again keep your Minions alive longer. Well I'll think I'll go ahead and try Dark/EA. This is sort of the end build I am thinking of taking. Amp Up will only be my very last power at 49 since it won't effect my pets, but will be useful in teams. I will probably start with the T1 Shadowy Binds as well then respec out once I get my Wolf. While I have about 10 different Controllers I should be leveling up, I started to think on a couple more. I have been playing a Grav/EA concept hero and it's working out pretty good at the moment. So my brain started thinking on whether or not EA could be better on Earth or even Fire (the chain heal and absorb shield should keep those buggers alive). I am curious if someone else has tried it and if it worked as well as my brain thinks, or I am just completely out to lunch.
-
Starting a Plant/Traps Controller. Planning on taking both Spirit Tree and Triage Beacon. Max their regen aura and drop both on tough fights (or alternate to keep people fresh). Yes, this will be more for teams then anything, but not every build has to be about Min/Max soling 4/8 missions or AV's.
-
I know you are looking at /cold /thermal /sonic or /ff. But I would like to throw /EA into the mix. With it your Demons will almost never die. Between the Bubble that grants resist and mez protection, to the fast heals and later Absorb shield makes them super tough. Plus you have a great way to recharge their Endurance so they fight a lot longer then possible. I made one and it is one of my top 5 enjoyable MM's (I have played a lot since they first debuted). But if you are sticking to those 4 I would go /Cold. Great debuffs, good Def shields. Just pick up Aid Other for Top offs every now and again.

Now that I've found the ultimate team player... what's the opposite?
Tacheyon replied to Aeroprism's topic in Controller
Dark/Storm is not bad. I would go Fire or Plant/Storm. Lots of potential damage there, plus Plant has that Seeds of Confusion and Carrion Creepers combo. Or Illusion/Traps(Storm). No real hard controls but once you get Perma-PA things are pretty easy so i am told. -
So like most heroes I looked up a name I thought would be taken, but wasn't. With that I decided on a unorthodox build a Sonic/TA. I have a rough draft of the skills I want to take and how I see my end game strat with this build. Mainly by hitting a Flash Arrow, Glue then Oil Slick and then rushing in to hit a Dreadful Wail (which should ignite the Oil Slick). Follow that up with a Shockwave (KB/KD enh in it), and apply ST damage as needed. Lots of set up I know, but after playing Controllers I am used to it. The main issue I am having is with my Power Pools. I am figuring Using Speed of Sound/Jaunt to get in, get out quick after hitting my Wail, Hasten obviously. But debating on Leadership and Fighting. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Also this is more for power selection, not a full IO'd build. So what was the cause? Hamster died and you had to replace it? Intern tripped over the power cord? (I hope he has now been sacked with a bag of doorknobs)
-
Did NCSoft finally nuke the server farm from orbit? (It's the only way to be sure)

Most useful Controller for the current fast endgame?
Tacheyon replied to KaizenSoze's topic in Controller
A lot of it has to do with Volcanic Gases, Quicksand and Earthquake. Volcanic Gases is the best AOE hold Controllers get due to it's nature. Instead of just one shot and done like most others, it is a a pseudo-pet that you place and fires off pulses over the course of it's duration which stack. So between that and Fossilize and (if you take it) Seismic Smash you have a good chance of holding a AV. Plus you can load up a bunch of procs in it to make it a nice damage area as well. Earthquake is provides a terrific -ToHit debuff on anything in it's field plus has a very high knockdown chance. Quicksand shreds Def as well and makes things nice and easy to hit. The issue is that it takes time to set these areas up. Which in a lot of Speed teams the trash mobs are dead before you lay down a Quicksand. You only have time to hit a Stalagmites or a Stone Cage. AV fights last a lot longer so you have more time to set up. That is my 2 inf. -
So I have added a Earth/Poison to my growing collection of Earth Controllers (Storm, Nature, TA, Rad are at 50). I have already gotten him to lv 20 before I saw your guide. I have done a rough leveling build (hardly any sets just standard IO's). I am going to be going into Experimentation as Corrosive Vial will be another AOE I can throw down to help out the team. Not sure if anyone else has some ideas to improve on this starting point.
