A big Thank You for the 64-bit Homecoming Client
GM Capocollo replied to Veracor's topic in General Discussion
If you're using the right manifest (http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml), your launcher will automatically download the new client files and add the launch options to the list. If you're on Mac or Linux and running the game through Wine, you'll need the newest version of Wine to run the 64-bit version. -
issue 26 Patch Notes for August 22nd, 2019
GM Capocollo replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
Rewriting the engine in DirectX or Vulkan would require a complete, top-to-bottom rewrite of the client code from scratch. I don't think that's in the cards for HC. Depending on the chipset, you may be able to apply a driver shim to add the necessary OpenGL support to the Intel drivers; search the forums for the procedure. However, this is unsupported by Homecoming and tends to be a fragile fix. -
Possibilities of adding a Launcher for Chrome OS
GM Capocollo replied to GrimScull2019's topic in Help & Support
Homecoming only officially supports players running the game on Windows, and any launchers for alternate operating systems are provided by the community. We have no plans to provide a launcher that works on Chrome OS, but if your Chromebook supports Android apps, you could attempt to use the emulator CrossOver on Chrome. Whether or not it's actually playable will depend on the capabilities of the Chromebook. -
Try running and installing both the .exe files available at this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685

There's no good place to have personal fights on the forums, but this is probably one of the worst places of all for it.
-
This is a server-side problem and not one tied to the client, so you don't have to test it in different versions of the client. We're aware of the problem and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.

Please provide the exact wording of the error message you're getting. Also, what is your current operating system?

issue 26 Patch Notes for August 22nd, 2019
GM Capocollo replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
You have two options: Add http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml as a manifest in Cream Soda Don't use Cream Soda and use Tequila instead -
It's also probably best to have Cream Soda and Tequila pointed at different places -- use your Tequila install for Homecoming and your Cream Soda install for other servers.
-
I think you'll have to reapply the fix since the executables have been moved and renamed in this update.
-
I don't think you'd have to force it. You should just be able to run hc-bin64\cityofheroes.exe with those parameters.

With the roll-out of the new version of the Homecoming client, some Mac users are having difficulty with setting up the new version of Island Rum required to launch the 64-bit client. Unfortunately, the GM team is a little short on people with Mac experience at the moment, so we're having trouble supporting everyone coming to us with issues. Post here if you're having trouble, being sure to share what exact problem you're having and what you've done so far to try to fix it, and if you're a Mac power user with a good understanding of the installation process, we'd appreciate it greatly if you could provide some help.

GM Capocollo replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
Make sure you're using the correct manifest: http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml -
Hold tight, the Island Rum author's pushing out a new version today.
-
Log into the character that owns the supergroup and file a /petition asking for a rename, telling us the name you want.
-
It also makes linking to specific pages or posts more consistent, and helps with search-engine optimization.
-
Like Widower pointed out earlier, a global name system like the one in later Cryptic games is not likely to be implemented on HC in the near future if solely for technical reasons. In the meantime, let's avoid using the suggestions and feedback forum in a non-constructive way.

It has not been activated as of August 19. -
Different kinds of activities can have different forms of rewards, including intangible ones. I think the reward for roleplaying is getting to write an interesting collaborative story, developing hooks that tie your character into a larger plot, and building a community. For people interested in roleplaying, I think these are sufficient without having to put out an additional carrot of increased XP gain. I also wouldn't want people to feel compelled to RP (or figure out a way to game the system without actually participating) in order to optimize their leveling.
