While the mouse wheel can help with the page scrolling being twitchy, it doesn't really solve the giant reshuffle project that can ensue nor does it make leaving blanks easier. Probably this is more of an issue for folks like me who have a rather large stable of toons and keep adding to or changing it. For folks with fewer characters I think the mouse wheel suggestion would be helpful though! 👍 AND, one of the most important reasons for my original quest to find the playerslot.txt file and modify it was that I can COPY my completed file on my PC and put the same file on my laptop to have the exact same layout. This way, I don't have a different layout on each computer that I have to manually try to make the same. (well, it's still manual, but A LOT easier than the dreaded character select menu, lol).

I really like this idea. I don't do too many respecs per character, however when you are an altoholic even one or two respecs per characters adds up and this would be very nice. Also, sometimes I take a photo of my layout before a respec but more often I forget to do so. Something like the OP request or (insert latest unique name here)VileTerror's suggestion would be very helpful to me as even though I have an overarching theme or systems to my button layout, sometimes on some toons or certain builds I have things changed specifically for the way I play THAT toon. In other words, my layouts, while beginning as mostly a generic pattern will eventually be tweaked to work perfectly for me for that build. If I fail to take the photo, then when I do the manual replacing of each power, I am often back to my generic layout and have to re-learn my tweaks for that build and adjust as I play. Would be nice to not have to reinvent the wheel each time... All in all I think this would be a great QoL addition if it could be done. 👍

I mod the playerslot.txt to manually put them in the order I want. Works WAY better than dragging across pages in that spastic touchy menu. Edited to add: Since @Blackbird71 gave a pretty good write up that goes into a bit of detail I thought I should add that I use the playerslot.txt not only to more quickly / easily organize I also use it to insert 'blanks' (new character slots) in certain places. For example, my entire first page is my list of my 10 Blasters, alphabetically except Maximus Power who is my main at the very top. The next 2 1/3 pages are my list of Brutes alphabetically listed, then a few 'blanks' to complete that page so my corruptors begin on the next page, and so on. This keeps each archetype divided and also leaves a few new character slots spread throughout so adding in new toons becomes fairly simple (unless I create a new Blaster since they just happened to fill up exactly one page). The 'exception' being I grouped up Arachnos, Peacemakers, Warshades and Masterminds on one page since I only have one or two of each. You can manually move new character slots by dragging an actual character slot to a blank and forcing the menu to swap, but that method is tedious and way over complicated. So once again playerslot.txt to the rescue. Just skip the numbers you wish to leave as 'blanks'. Instead of trying to visualize what I'm saying here's a copy of my actual file so you can visualize what I'm saying and go from there. Hope this is a helpful guide to someone! Lastly, as @Blackbird71 (good golly there are a lot of 'Blackbirds'!) said the order in which they are listed within the file is not important, I could literally reverse the order listed and leave the numbering as is and it would display the same. I just like it nice and tidy to appease my OCD. 😉

For me at least, I consider things like how many slots do you have available, what is the overall build and what are you trying to do. Short answer without more info, I would: Two slot CJ with LotG (def,global) One slot RoP with whatever since it’s an emergency button for me Fully slot AB with either a nice damage set (for bonuses) or frankenslot it. Knowing a lot more about your build and goals would be helpful though. There are some build Grandmasters here in these forums who could give you excellent advice very specific to your needs.

Yep. Clicking on an NPC who's name begins with the letter 'M' will show hours played but as @Greycat pointed out, it's buggy and can be inaccurate. I think (at least in my case) what caused it is logging out with an incomplete AE arc. The timer keeps running and adds the total hours even when it should not. There may be other causes too for all I know.

I agree, this would be very cool in my book. I always enjoyed the 'underwater' stuff in EQ2 (there was actually quite a bit of it) and even just swimming out to get a hidden treasure chest in Tortage (AoC). I also liked Lumaria (CO) but did not really get around to doing much in that one because the devs were so busy messing up that game. A lot of MMO's seem to skip it though - most likely due to it being a bit of a pain to design. Could be awesome in CoX though. But this is a bit of a tall request for a volunteer staff with so much they are already working on. Maybe someday... one can dream. 🐳🐋🐬🐟🐠🐡🦈🐙

I had completely forgotten about these. I confirmed the Atlas Park one still gives some info. Did not see any in Mercy. I couldn't find much online but there is one post talking about it once being a 'leaderboard' but that was apparently disabled to foil gold spammers or some such? Also it was apparently resource heavy on the servers? I also saw slash command for /kiosk listed on the old wiki but it doesn't do anything now as far as I can tell (if it even was related to this). This is the kind of thing that makes me want to peruse the old forums via PK's still pending project. ... and @Greycat just posted pretty much the same as what I was able to find. 👍

Idea…. When Atlantis was destroyed in a parallel universe where it DID exist, some of it’s inhabitants managed to escape to alternate universe’s where it never existed. Once there, these refugees found themselves mostly keeping quiet about Atlantis so as to not bring any further judgement upon themselves… however, there are some who have heard the ‘stories’ only to discount them as fable. Then there are those who could not remain quiet, deciding to face fate head on, and using their considerable knowledge and powers to do good in their new realm. Not perfect by any stretch but it’s an example of a way around it. As far as breaking CoX lore - I feel you would not actually be doing that and even if you did, not a big deal. Any toon running around with a certain look, name or backstory is already doing that. Nice of you to be considerate of it though. 🙂

When I was an adolescent / younger man I did my share of stupid thoughtless stuff. I had a good heart even then, but youth and foolishness (along with peer pressure) still had it's grip on me. I'm talking about nonsense like prank (or crank if you prefer) phone calls, TP'ing houses, throwing eggs at cars, etc. I have done some inconsiderate and even mean things myself. When computers were first becoming popular when the 'internet' was still young and bulletin boards were still a thing, I was into trying to get into sites (primitive hacking by today's standards) just to see if I could. I did no harm - it was mainly curiosity and ego but still, I had no business doing it OR bragging about it for attention. I also used to crack games just to see if I could. I did not distribute anything and I always owned a copy, but again it was more about just seeing if I could do it and gave little thought to whether I should do it. Where am I going with this? My HOPE is that this is just some youngsters being stupid and inconsiderate and that some day they will come to realize their shenanigans were dumb and hurtful. I turn 57 tomorrow. I grew out of that stuff a long time ago. But the last few years I have to say @JnEricsonx your personal quote is something I am beginning to struggle with myself. "Eventually, cynicism becomes observation." I sometimes feel this way. I still believe people are mostly good however when I see this kind of thing happening so much - hacking, ddos'ing, encrypting critical software demanding ransom, bit coin mining bots, scam emails trying to steal folks retirement, etc. - it really is hard to not acknowledge that some folks are purposefully malevolent, evil and just plain cold hearted. It's hard not to become more cynical as I get older. But I still resist it. I still try to find the good in things. If not life begins to lose its color. Its beauty. Its joy. So, for example, maybe what happened to Sanctuary/Ascension will result in something good - like everyone running these servers (those folks included) perhaps will take every precaution going forward (i.e. regular offsite backups that have been tested to be sure they work). Ascension could have been up for longer and accumulated more players who invested more time building characters and bases, etc. only to have this happen on perhaps a larger scale some months from now. I feel very bad for those folks. I truly hope they try to put it back together and build it like a fortress this time, with a backup plan for their backup plan. Bad people are going to keep on being bad people (at least for now). I can't stop that. But I can encourage good people to try to keep on being good people. And as for those who are willingly, intentionally and gleefully being evil just for some kind of sick pleasure, well, I truly believe those folks are living on borrowed time and will eventually get what's coming to them if they don't make a hard 180. That doesn't make me feel any better either (I don't wish bad on anyone) but it does allow me to forgive them so my heart doesn't fill up with poison from their deeds. That doesn't mean though that I don't have the strong urge to kick these punks asses. I just find that letting that feeling go (as best I can) is better than adding it to the LAKE of life's frustrations, because frankly, that dam is already under enough pressure with things that really do matter. Sorry to go all 'confessiony' and 'moralizy' on you guys...

Yeah I second the 'pull the drive(s)' and retain the data if possible. I literally have a box full of hard drives pulled from old comps and have many times rooted through them to find things. I even have an external drive bay designed for dropping in drives easily. Also, sometimes I pull the drives and just add them internally into my comp if I know I will possibly need access to them for a bit. The no CD/DVD/Blu Ray is the 'wave of the future' as others have pointed out. Been happening over the last few years. So no, HP is not an outlier. They are still available both internal and external (which would work but not benefit from connecting directly to your video card). Blu Ray will make the cost go up a bit. External DVD players are super inexpensive though and even Walmart carries an LG for around $30, if you could live without Blu Ray that is. Edited to add: Without some experience and ready access to parts to swap or testing equipment, etc. it can be tricky to determine what failed. Power Supply certainly could be it but it could also be your motherboard, etc. I recently had a failure on an ASUS motherboard - most likely some capacitor that dried out or possibly a solder connection with a hairline crack. Sometimes repeated heating and cooling can even eventually cause the connection to break inside the component (IC chip, transistor, etc.). I use to repair consumer electronics for a few years so I kind of know how to troubleshoot with limited resources. Anyhow, the failure I had could have been the PS unit but turned out to be the MB. Then there's memory, cpu, gpu.... For most folks I would recommend going to complete replacement route as you have, especially in an aging comp that sounds like it was already struggling just to zone in Atlas Park. Just my two cents. 👍

I recently wanted to use Mace Mastery on a toon with War Mace - kind of makes sense, right? Yeah, not if you don't want a mace that doesn't match your others (from War Mace). I am all on board for at least giving it some actual 'mace' options that match up with War Mace (especially maces like the celestial and tech maces that would keep in line with 'shooting' something out like a gun). As @Sunsette pointed out the Arachnos-Mace options are currently very limited. Wondering how hard it would be to add some of the options from War Mace into Arachnos Mace? Just a 'wish list' item for me as Energy Mastery is my go to for 'nothing else really matches up with the build' from the epic pool choices. I can certainly relate to what the OP is asking for, and even giving it some gun type models would kind of make sense too as it gets held and fired like a rifle. Again, wish list request from my perspective and only if it's a relatively quick and easy thing to do. Thanks!

Out of 113 total toons I have exactly one stone armor (WITHOUT Granite) and NO bio armor toons... BECAUSE THEY ARE SO DAMN UGLY! Was this the result the original devs were hoping for? Even Alt-itis addicted types like me won't roll them. I realize there are folks out there who don't care and roll any toon with any look and any name and any powerset combo in the name of being uber however THAT isn't me. I get that it may have been intentional to have to 'pay a price' for having these abilities - but someone went full retard with making those beyond ugly. Honestly, they're horrendous. Is this City of Monstrous Deformities? I don't want to play a toon that morphs into a giant lump of dog poop to be powerful. 💩 With all of the QoL stuff the HC team has put in (and thank you!!!!) I find it odd that at the very least they don't make Ablative Carapace 'no fx'able. Or at least make a version of it that isn't so disgusting. Of course for those out there who like those looks (if there actually is anyone) they can be left in as optional looks. I guess it's not really a problem per se, especially since I need more toons like I need another hole in my head, lol. I just thought it was worth pointing this out to the HC devs, since QoL seems to be their thing. Plus, I would really like to use bio armor on a toon or two and have for years now. I can't even roll one of the almighty TW/Bio builds because it makes me want to check my shoes... So, pretty please with a cherry on top? 😁

I just read through their posts and honestly it doesn’t make much sense. Three things stand out as odd to me: 1). OVH shutting down their server with no actual beforehand notice. 2) OVH failing to give them an actual explanation for the shutdown. 3) OVH immediately deleting data with no backup or restore offered. First and foremost I am not blaming or calling out OVH. I’m simply trying to understand their business practices. Second, obviously the DDOSer’s are to blame for this nonsense, not OVH or the Ascension folks. This kind of stuff is very unfortunate but not uncommon. However the part I am ‘concerned’ about is could this occur with HC? I’m not asking ‘theoretically’, rather is there something about targeted DDOS attacks and the way OVH handles them that maybe has HC exposed to this potentially happening as well. I would HOPE not. But reading that other thread did not give me much comfort. Dang @Faultline you are fast! Thank you! I feel a bit better. (For us here on HC, not for what happened to them)

Didn't read this whole thread but I'll admit that I currently play blueside almost exclusively. In live I was split about 60% blue 40% red. My redside 'main' was my mastermind 'Cybro' who I managed to level up (somehow). In SWToR I have around 30 maxed out toons and they are pretty even across light and dark. So I gave some thought as to why I'm playing this way on HC. For a person like me, the pull to blueside is mostly that it falls in line with how I feel (mostly). Like all human beings I have both good and evil feelings, however at this time in my life I am leaning heavily toward good. Mostly because I feel like in r/l 'team evil' has PLENTY of recruits lately. Just some of my personal motivation now that I think about it. The counterpoint to this is that sometimes the 'goody two shoes' thing goes over the top too so perhaps some 'balance' wouldn't hurt. Redside has plenty going for it in CoX and the content and story are really pretty good. It just has that feel sometimes that I don't want to feel at this point. That said, I think this thread is making me consider making a small handful of redside toons. I do miss some of the missions and zones and even occasionally feeling like a bad guy who just doesn't give a rats... Another thing I think might be off putting to some is the zones feel more difficult to get around in to me and npc's and other locations seem awkward to find. Back when I played it on live I was getting around pretty well so maybe I'm just getting old (and frankly, lazy). Lastly, there seems to be a 'mindset' that accompanies these different sides and attracts players with certain behaviors (I guess in my mind similar to pvp). There is not a thing wrong with that - I just can't relate much right now. Summary of why I'm playing blueside right now: 1) I can 'relate' better right now to the good guys 2) I'm getting plenty of bad behavior (evil) in r/l so I need the 'escape' even if it can be a bit goody-goody 3) Laziness / convenience 4) 'live and let live' player mindset vs 'live and let die' player mindset 5) I've got such a 'monster' going with all of my toons on HC and everything I am trying / doing from building an absolutely huge SG (both indoor and outdoor) to creating backstories/bios to tweaking builds and on and on (lol)... reliving redside will be on my plate, eventually... None of those things mean there is anything wrong with redside at all - in fact it's really well designed. I'm curious myself why there aren't more folks playing redside here but I have to admit that I am one of them. Seems to me even on Live though it was a lower population iirc. I was going to pop in here with a joke like "Maybe if there was no blueside available redside might get a small boost!" lol, but in all seriousness I honestly don't know what can be done to make redside more enticing. It is good content that folks should not overlook. Will think about making a redside 'stable' down the road though because this thread made me realize I'm overlooking a big chunk of the game. 👍

Well good golly once you pointed out the duality of the meaning of the term 'bio' that certainly does bring out my inner 12 year old also (who am I kidding - my inner 12 year old is always right there just below the surface! Ha!). OP to answer your question, I have to be inspired with an idea before I write one. Like a songwriter or author I guess. Only a few of my rather large stable of toons have bios currently. It is my intention to eventually fill out bios for all of them... eventually. I have a rather formidable amount of things to do - and it's even such a large scale project that I use spreadsheets to track this. I just spent nearly an entire day cleaning up my character select and putting everyone in an order that makes sense for me (I edited the playerslot.txt to put them all in order and give them exact locations in the character selection list - then copied the same playerslot file over to my laptop to make it uniform). I even put a temporary halt on new toons until earlier today when I finally caved and added a DB/Inv Brute to my stable after reading this post: Dual Blades - Invulnerability - Brute or Tank? - General Discussion - Homecoming (homecomingservers.com) . My to-do list is HUGE and never ending, and in my mind that's a good thing. So, give me another year or so.
