  1. Looks like Nemu’s got you on the right track RE: E/N mitigation. I didn’t used to think it was the ideal resistance shield, but I know a lot of people that spend half their time running ITF’s (and half of the other half running Apex-Tin Mage, perhaps)… and I’ve never seen so many people running Dark Embrace. Like often not even with Soul Drain or whatever other reason you’d think of going Dark or Soul.
  2. Anyone who doesn't slot LotG's in an SR needs to be immediately kidnapped, taken to a lab, and studied. Cuz they on some whole other shit.
  3. I acknowledged in my own post that it wasn’t bullet proof, but it doesn’t have to be. You pretty much said the idea behind the cottage rule has zero meaning except to Castle and the devs of his era, and that much is obviously untrue. Literally every example Jimmy cited as the most extreme deviations from the rule in HC, is less extreme than your idea to remove a power’s core functionality from a set entirely. But again, I can tell this has accomplished nothing. Guess I gotta know when to give up.
  4. I literally searched the forums and quoted a dev to avoid a post like this being considered a valid response. But I guess the devs’ own words on design vision have no weight.
  5. The 2nd point is obviously not true so don’t worry about that.
  6. Rage -> Endurance Problems -> Enhancements -> Money
  7. I figured it would either be like a PBAoE Hail of Bullets type thing (preferably a slightly cooler looking dance than Dual Pistols gun-fu though) or a Rain of Arrows type thing.
  8. Sorry, we all have a lot of opinions at once and it didn’t seem relevant to state that I don’t want the new Scrapper “gap closer” to be like Burst of Speed or whatever when I don’t want said new Scrapper gap closer to exist in the first place for entirely different reasons.
  9. So, you’re correct if you say the Cottage Rule is not a hard line never to be crossed at all. However, note Jimmy’s clear statement pasted at the bottom of this post. Replacing Confront with a gap closer violates this general philosophy moreso than any other change made by the HC devs that I can think of. Unlike the other slight violations he mentions, nothing is being proposed at all that keeps the core functionality there in the set for people that like it. Yes, you can point to issues and imperfections in this argument like this being Jimmy’s personal opinion, but no, you cannot claim that the general principle behind the cottage rule is not something the current developers consider. That would be blatantly untrue. Clearly the devs are interested in giving deference to people that like existing functionalities. So, again, you don’t get to claim that we’re making equal and opposite arguments. You want to take existing core functions of powers away from players, and we don’t. Again, just another reminder that adding another effect or two to Confront while keeping its current functionality as is… would not violate this design philosophy, and I would support strengthening the power that way. “For me, the most important thing is that a powerset / character doesn't completely lose a capability or function that it already has - even if an individual power is completely changed, or a respec is required, or some effort needs to be put in.” - Jimmy
  10. Because it is glaringly obvious to me that the spirit of the cottage rule is still adhered to by the HC devs, I would need them to explicitly and directly deny this to believe for one moment that the general principle of the cottage rule is not still in play. Just because Castle happened to be the one to coin the term doesn’t mean the general principle isn’t clearly followed to this day if you examine how the HC devs tend to make changes. [I am currently looking for direct proof that I think is out there, but not 100% sure]
  11. If your position was really only that Confront is lame, we could simply go back to the discussion of adding a debuff or other secondary mechanic - that’s how you change powers without taking core functionalities away from players… RE: Bill, I too have noticed that on a fire brute that some mobs will simply never stop running wild, even if you use Taunt on them over and over. I simply have to go back to those when they stop running wild and it’s a minor annoyance. Either Threat is busted or never intended to have a 100% success rate…
  12. 1. Uh, no, you and the other folks have literally stated that it would be nice to not have to dip into a power pool. Do you need people to quote things at you again. 2. It would work both ways if our positions were equal. But the Cottage Rule plainly dictates that precedence is given to that functionality which already exists, so “no u” doesn’t work here because the burden is entirely on you to explain why Scrappers are in such a dire place that we need to completely take a core functionality of a power out of a set completely. 3. 13. Also the irrefutable, objective, supported-by-evidence truth: (1) you have over and over taken the position that you don’t like the proposed solution of simply picking up your preferred gap closer from a power pool because you don’t want to have to invest one of your 4 power pool picks for that. You want something added to Scrapper primaries instead (which does not yet exist and is not yet being enjoyed by any players). I don’t love this argument on its own but then… …(2) you have over and over suggested to those that want to keep Confront (which already exists and is enjoyed by some players apparently)… that they simply pick up a comparable power from a power pool and address their issue by investing one of their 4 power pool picks. As if that wasn’t enough…… ……(3) you have over and over acted completely oblivious to the transparent hypocrisy and undeniable selfishness of simultaneously taking both positions (1) and (2), and it’s completely mind boggling that you apparently think this is a good look. You are simultaneously claiming that “just pick up a pool power” is both a problem with a solution and a solution to a problem. Trying to comprehend how this can be a good faith argument has my brain twisted into a pretzel and you need to explain much better if you hope to convince anyone. As Bill said: dildos.
  14. Even if I liked the idea I would be against it being any more that basically Combat Teleport. Because Scrappers certainly do not need more attacks or utility. Because providing that kind of buff to an already top tier AT is a whole nother level of bad idea.
  15. Yeah I pretty much afk farm on all my tankers for vet levels even if some can only put one measly PBAoE on auto and it’s slow. Regardless, Fire tanks may be about as good as Fire brutes, but I still maintain that Fire farming brutes clearly have something other brutes don’t: not having to think about how much better mitigation their tanker counterparts have. After you back out the Fiery Auras, I have 14 more tanks and 4 more brutes (the 2 without Regen / EA being on an extra dusty shelf). In every other case, you would need extra IO bonuses for a brute to match the tank’s mitigation, taking away from offensive/proc slotting opportunities. At least the fire farmer brute has the exact same fire resistance as the tank and only negligible differences in fire defense via pool power differences. Fire farmer brutes are already so invincible that I never take Healing Flames, so at least there’s that.
  16. Don’t give us that confused emoji Snarky, you know damn well how you be do
  17. While we don’t have the assets for a full set, what we do have would fit nicely into the formula for a Sentinel APP. Watered down for APP standards as usual - remove or weaken the holds in (2), increase recharges, especially of (5). 1- Aging Touch / Future Pain 2- Distortion Field 3- Time Stop 4- End of Time 5- Temporal Mending
  18. My Traps/AR actually has my best pylon time of my defenders at the moment (averages about 2:10), which I find to be lol. Granted there’s another caveat on top of just Poison Trap being amazing - I get to actually freely use Ignite. But even before I respec’d into Ignite it was doing way better than I would ever think an /AR defender would. Right now it doesn’t have a real attack chain but it still works - just drops fresh traps in the gaps between Sniper Rifle, Ignite, Full Auto, and Dominate. Need to get my new Ill/Traps out there, since Ill/ trollers tend to be my best overall.
  19. Also, threads like this literally make me think wacko bitter thoughts like a couple of power pools probably need to be nerfed into the ground. NOT because I actually want that for my characters. But because clearly their present state has driven a portion of the populace to such madness that those people literally don’t think they’re allowed to choose their own power pool picks anymore.
  20. I couldn’t agree more with Lumi of all people. Clearly this thread has fractured the cosmos and thrust us into Bizarro World.
  21. Then I stand corrected. Guess my Poison pylon times are more about -res or something. Anyway, the -500% / -1000% powers. Those are monsters. Or at least there is a correlation between using them and AV’s melting - perhaps I’m missing the true cause.
  22. I’ve been refraining but the thread’s newcomer is starting to make the elephant in the room too obvious to ignore…
  23. If you don’t have a problem asking players to dip into a power pool, you have no argument. The OP even acknowledged that the entire case hinged on “having to pick a different power pool = bad”. If you don’t have a problem asking players to dip into a power pool, every single player has access to several gap closers already.
  24. Are you seriously implying that you have a problem with the exact verbatim argument you yourself were just quoted making two posts up? I’m actually impressed, bold strategy 🙂 [EDIT: to be fair, context suggests maybe you aren’t crazy about this argument yourself, but you are certainly in favor of *someone* having to reach into an extra power pool as long as it’s not yourself. My head is spinning.]
  25. Ok. Let's scrap that. Back to the other dozens of suggestions for making money in this thread. Pick one of those. Problem solved. 🙂
